README

BoneHunt

Status: early access. This mod has potential to be VERY buggy, so have some kind of panic button mod. It is actively developed, and issues will be fixed! Core possession and movement are solid. A few edges are still rough though, so see Known Issues below before reporting something already listed.

A physics-based prop possession mod for BONELAB. Pick a nearby physics prop from BoneMenu (or just touch one), and become it: full physics-driven movement, not VRChat movement. Works solo, and syncs over LabFusion so other players actually see you as the prop.

Features

  • Possess any nearby physics prop via a BoneMenu picker, sorted by distance
  • Touch-to-possess arm "Transform to Prop" and the next thing your hand touches becomes you
  • Real physics movement force-driven, not kinematic teleporting. Heavy props feel heavy.
  • Fusion-synced other players in the lobby see and hear you as the prop, including voice position
  • Full control scheme, VR and flatscreen both supported

Controls

Action VR Flatscreen
Move left stick WASD
Jump Space
Snap upright left stick click R
Snap to prop & depropify right stick click G

Installation

Requires:

  • BoneLib (not the deprecated package — check for the "Deprecated" tag before installing)
  • LabFusion — required even for solo play, BoneHunt won't load without it

Install via Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman and dependencies should resolve automatically. If you do it manually, get BOTH BoneLibs because I have no idea which one I used. Let me know if you figure out and i'll fix that.

Known issues

  • Touch-to-possess hand detection radius may feel slightly off depending on prop size, it's something i'm gonna have to tune in
  • Ragdoll mods (e.g. RagdollPlayer) are filtered out of the prop list by name, but might still appear if you're running an unusual ragdoll mod, or if I completely messed up the filter.
  • Level transitions while possessing will safely eject you back to your body, but expect this to be tested more thoroughly over time

Found something not listed here? Please report it, and help make the mod better!

Reporting bugs

The more detail, the faster this gets fixed:

  • What you were doing when it happened
  • Your Latest.log from MelonLoader (or your mod manager's profile folder)
  • Whether you were solo or in a Fusion lobby
  • Email the bug report to [email protected]

Roadmap

  • Tuning touch-possess feel if it feels wonky(didn't to me, but might on modded props.)
  • Dedicated Fusion gamemode (proper prop hunt: hiders/seekers, timer, scoring)
  • Better prop filtering (component-based instead of name-based where possible)
  • Ability for prop to get shot and transform automatically back to player(?)
