README

COTLMP 8 Player Expansion

Experimental local co-op expansion for up to 8 players in Cult of the Lamb.

This is local multiplayer only. Online multiplayer is not included.

Main features

  • Up to eight local players with separate controllers.
  • Player 3-8 number markers, coloured halos and expanded HUD support.
  • Dynamic cooperative camera designed to keep the full group visible.
  • Camera stays cooperative during normal NPC dialogue instead of being stolen by the speaker.
  • Scalable enemy quantity and health balance for larger groups.
  • 8P DIFFICULTY selector in the pause menu: Easy / Normal / Hard / Extreme.
  • Independent follower conversations and compact personal menus.
  • Multiple players can collect, mine, chop and build simultaneously.
  • Per-player tarot card selection.
  • Democratic door/building entry voting with RT / Heavy Attack to toggle DENY.
  • Players entering a voted door disappear from the current room until the vote resolves.
  • Weapon/curse recovery when a player cannot collect an assigned item.
  • Temple/dialogue recovery and F10 emergency cleanup for stuck interactions.
  • Transition cleanup closes leftover personal menus and overlays before the next room loads.
  • Low-health warning is only emitted when more than 51% of active players are actually low.

8-player balance

Enemy count and health use separate scaling so larger groups do not simply create extreme damage-sponge enemies.

The default NORMAL enemy-count target is approximately:

  • 5 players: x2 enemies
  • 8 players: x3 enemies

Bosses remain single entities so their phases are not duplicated.

The pause-menu selector changes enemy quantity, while health scaling remains handled separately.

Controls

  • Use the normal pause-menu Add Player option to connect additional players.
  • During a room/building entry vote, use RT / Heavy Attack to toggle DENY.
  • DENY only wins when deny votes are strictly greater than the number of players already inside.
  • After a denied transition, only the initiator receives the 15-second re-entry cooldown.
  • Press F10 to force-close a stuck menu/conversation and restore player control.

Installation

Thunderstore Mod Manager / r2modman

If something fails, check BepInEx/LogOutput.log.

Experimental warning

Cult of the Lamb was designed around two-player co-op. This expansion patches many systems that assume only two players, so rare tutorials, cinematics, unusual menus or future game updates can still expose edge cases.

When reporting a bug, include:

  • BepInEx/LogOutput.log
  • number of active players
  • selected 8P DIFFICULTY
  • room, NPC or menu involved
  • screenshot/video for visual problems

CHANGELOG

Changelog

2.34.0 - TEST 8.17

Camera and dialogue

  • Normal non-cinematic NPC text now preserves the full cooperative camera.
  • NPC dialogue zoom requests are ignored while those short texts are open.
  • Camera distance is based on the real separation of active players.

Transition and menu cleanup

  • Starting a transition now closes registered personal menus such as cooking, food selection, follower orders and minigames.
  • Transition cleanup releases the menu owner's input and removes personal-conversation state before the next room loads.
  • Non-standard overlays are also disabled so old UI cannot survive into the next scene.

Co-op reliability carried forward

  • Equipment podium clones preserve the real room-generated item level.
  • Dungeon camera cleanup removes stale dialogue/encounter focus targets.
  • Low-health warning only plays when more than 51% of active players are low, using one emitter.
  • Missing normal weapons and curses can be recovered automatically after 20 seconds.
  • Compact transparent personal menus and larger food text.
  • Per-player tarot choices.
  • Democratic room/building transition voting.
  • Temple and dialogue softlock recovery.
  • Dynamic 8-player camera, expanded HUD and coloured player markers.
  • 8P difficulty selector with independent enemy-count scaling.
