README

A charming but reluctant troubatrix, the Minstrel relies on charming and boosting enemies and companions to make up for her lack of confidence in her own strength and survive in the treacherous halls of the Gungeon, yet rewards skilled players with the possibility of completely negating her drawbacks by unlocking her full potential. The Minstrel is able to play passively, charming enemies and picking up kills on weaker foes as she builds up her Metronome and confidence, before becoming ever more daring as her damage increases and charming enemies becomes less of an option; up until she is hit and has to once more slip back into a more passive, charm-focused playstyle to build up the Metronome again. The Minstrel is a character that offers endless possibilities for risk/reward decisions, having weaknesses and strengths that are in constant flux and that invite you to take part in the prominent shift between caution and daring that composes the ever-changing symphony of her personality.

CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Starts with an infinite ammunition Derringer and the Really Special Lute.
  • Starts with Charming rounds and Metronome.
  • Deals only 70% damage to normal enemies (Able to increase it to 175% through the Metronome) and 87.5% damage to bosses (Up to almost 220%).
  • When the Metronome is not charged, she relies on charming to clear rooms. When Metronome is charged, damage increases but charming becomes harder. Since most Bosses don't spawn enemies that can be charged, try to build up the Metronome to help in the bossfights!
  • Slightly reduced health and accuracy.
  • Custom sprites, bosscard, facecard, and foyercard, made as an eclectic mix of a bard and princess... WITH HAIR PHYSICS!
  • Punchout sprites and Punchout health cards, all made to be unique and distinctive to fit with the Minstrel's personality and aesthetic... WITH HAIR PHYSICS!

TIPS:

  • A charged metronome is able to easily kill enemies, but will often do so before charming them, which encourages you to take a more risky, active role, making it likelier for you to get hit. When you lose the Metronome charge, it is better to retreat from the thick of battle and focus once more on charming and dodging to prevent getting hit again.
  • An uncharged metronome is perfect for charming enemies due to being bad at killing them. In the early game, the Derringer is great for charming single, large enemies, while the Lute is better at charming groups of smaller enemies. Playing carefully and slowly while allowing charmed enemies to do most of the legwork is a great way to prevent taking damage.
