README

ProCon (beta)

Player-hosted Gang Beasts. Host a match from the main menu, give your friends a code, and they join you — no official servers involved.

Normally every online match runs on the official servers, so gameplay mods only work in local play. With ProCon, your PC is the server: the match runs on your game, exactly like local play, and your friends connect to it. That means mods that change physics or gameplay work for everyone in your match.

⚠️ This is an early beta. Joining, controls and loading have only been tested on a single PC so far. Expect bugs — please report them!

How to use

Everyone needs ProCon installed (with MelonLoader, which your mod manager installs for you). Everyone needs the Steam version of Gang Beasts.

Hosting

  1. Main menu → ProCon → Host.
  2. Join your beast like normal, pick a mode and map, start the round.
  3. Your 8-letter code is shown top-left and copied to your clipboard. Send it to your friends.

Your code changes every time you host. Friends can join once your round has started.

Joining

  1. Main menu → ProCon → Join.
  2. Type or paste (Ctrl+V) the code → Connect.
  3. Join your beast and ready up — you'll connect automatically as soon as the host's round is running.

How it works

  • ProCon uses Gang Beasts' own multiplayer code (the same code local play and the official servers use). It doesn't invent its own netcode.
  • Game traffic goes through Steam's relay network, so nobody needs to port forward or share their IP.
  • The code contains the host's Steam account (so your friend's game knows who to connect to) plus a random session number (so old codes stop working).

Known issues (beta)

  • A friend's beast may only appear at the start of the host's next round.
  • Joining copies of the game on the same PC/Steam account works for testing, but both copies count as the same player.
  • Everyone feels some delay depending on their distance to the host, since the host's PC runs all the physics.
