Zagreus' Journey is a mod for Hades II that adds the original route Zagreus took through Tartarus, Asphodel, Elysium and the Temple of Styx in the first game to the sequel.
Escape the Underworld as Melinoë, battle familiar foes and bosses using her unique abilities and weapons, meet Zagreus' old friends, and reconnect with your family's past.
Wonder what it plays like? Take a look at what Haelian and Boated think of the mod:
- So, someone put Hades 1 in Hades 2 and it's amazing. | Haelian
- They put Hades 1 in Hades 2 and it's PERFECT | Boated
After installing the mod, a Chaos Gate will appear in the Crossroads, which will allow you to experience Zagreus' journey through the Underworld as Melinoë.
It is highly recommended that you complete the main story of Hades before playing with this mod, as not all story events are included.
Refer to the FAQ in the wiki with any questions before opening an issue.
You can find all of the latest changes in the Changelog on the mod page.

Integrations with other Mods
Some other mods integrate with Zagreus' Journey to provide additional features, alternative functionality, or use the resources introduced by this mod:
- Charon's Tip Jar adds a tip jar to Charon's shop rooms during Zagreus' Journey underworld runs.
- Flip the Arcana adds flipped versions of the Arcana cards with wildly different effects, and will require resources from Zagreus' Journey to unlock them if both mods are installed.
Are you developing a mod that integrates with Zagreus' Journey, or would like to add such an integration? Let me know on Discord in the #h1-run-h2 channel.
Installing on Steam Deck? Please also refer to the Steam Deck Installation Guide on the Hades II Mod wiki.
In order to use this mod you must have Hades installed on your system at all times when playing Hades II. The mod will not work without it. If you have Hades and Hades II installed in different parent folders, please refer to the Configuration wiki page for instructions on how to ensure the mod can discover your Hades installation. You must start the game once to generate the configuration file.
You must uninstall your Hades mods by renaming or deleting the Mods folder and running modimporter.exe before installing this mod!
You can install this mod just like any other Hades II mod available on Thunderstore, the recommended mod manager is r2modman.
Install r2modman by using Manual Download on the linked page, and running the setup executable in the downloaded .zip file.
Afterwards, you can find Zagreus' Journey on the Online tab in r2modman, or use Install with Mod Manager on the mod's Thunderstore page.
The mod manager will automatically install any other mods this mod needs to work correctly.
Start the game through the mod manager to make sure mods are enabled - use the Start Modded button on the top left.
Starting the game the first time with the mod enabled will install a number of files. This may take some time depending on your hardware, and the game will display a black screen during this time. You can follow along the installation progress in the console window that opens when playing the game modded.
If the mod was installed successfully, a popup will open in the Training Grounds to let you know.
This mod requires an additional 1GB of disk space.
If you have Hades and Hades II installed in different parent folders, such as through different storefronts (Steam/Epic Games/Microsoft Store/Game Pass), you will need to provide the path of your Hades installation in the mod's configuration file in your mod manager.
Set the hadesGameFolder configuration option to the folder where Hades is installed (such as C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hades if installed through Steam, C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Games\Hades if installed through Epic Games, or C:/Xbox/Hades for Microsoft Store/Game Pass).
Refer to the Configuration section below for more information on how to find the configuration file.
If you would like more information or experience any issues, please refer to the Installation wiki page.
Before removing the mod from r2modman, you should first uninstall it through the uninstall configuration setting, to prevent any issues with leftover files.
Only uninstall the mod while in the Crossroads to prevent issues.
Note that the configuration file is only created after the first game start with the mod enabled in your mod manager.
If you need to make any changes (such as to the hadesGameFolder setting), you will need to start the game once first to generate the config file.
If you are using r2modman, you can modify the config directly through the mod manager, in the Config editor tab.
You can find an explanation of all configuration options on this wiki page.

- Fixed: In Dream Dives, Asterius and Hades may start a dialogue in certain cases.
- Fixed: Relationship/story progress for Orpheus is blocked by an unobtainable dialogue, preventing him from offering "Hymn to Zagreus".
- Fixed: "Good Riddance" offered by Orpheus is not required to complete the "Singer of Sorrows" prophecy.
v1.1.2
Patch Highlights:
- Added a new bedding cosmetic inspired by the Chariots in Elysium.
- Fixed: A specific room will always follow the opening room, instead of it being random.
- Fixed: Rerolling the reward on the door out of the opening room doesn't change the displayed reward, but does change the actual reward you will receive in the next room.
- Fixed: "Hymn to Zagreus" from Orpheus could never be offered due to an incorrect dialogue requirement.
- Fixed: The game crashes when entering Sisyphus' chamber while a dialogue between him and Thanatos is queued.
- Fixed: Some of Megaera's key dialogues can't be triggered, locking out her romance and follow-up dialogues.
- Fixed: If Hades is encountered during a Dream Dive when the next normal run would be the tenth clear, he will not engage in combat.
v1.1.1
Patch Highlights:
- Fixed: If the previous run was a Dream Dive that ended in a Zagreus' Journey biome, the save will fail to load if loaded without Zagreus' Journey active.
- Fixed: If Melinoë is affected by Circe's "Word of Greater Girth" or "Word of Smaller Stature", she will continuously shrink with each new room in Zagreus' Journey biomes.
Other fixes and improvements:

v1.1.0
Patch Highlights:

- The first time that Zagreus' Journey regions are eligible in Dream Dives, Elysium will appear as the guaranteed first region (after you have already completed at least one total Dream Dive).

- Balancing: Slightly reduced overall number of enemies per encounter in all regions.
- Balancing: Slightly reduced health and armour of non-boss enemies.

Other fixes and improvements:
- Melinoë is now slightly smaller while in Zagreus' Journey rooms, to compensate for the difference in room and enemy scales.
- When confiding in Frinos, Melinoë can now refer to events in Zagreus' Journey runs.
- Added a new configuration option that forces the first run of a fresh save file to be a Zagreus' Journey run, meant for speedrunning, called
z_SpeedrunFreshFileZagreusJourneyRun. You should only use this for speedrunning, not for normal saves, as progression beyond the first run may break. - Added a new configuration option to allow picking up the reward in the opening room of the run instead of talking to Thanatos, even if he still has unique dialogue left, called
z_SpeedrunSkipOpeningThanatos. - Added a new configuration option to hide the "Poison will wear off automatically!" message that appears when poisoned in Elysium, called
z_HideElysiumPoisonMessage. - The "Poison will wear off automatically!" message that appears when poisoned in Elysium will now only show once per run, not once per encounter.
