README

FishCraft Link

Real Minecraft, inside How to Fish. Build, mine, fight and fish with Minecraft's blocks, mobs, items and HUD, right in How to Fish's world. Minecraft (Java Edition) runs hidden alongside the game, and this mod links the two: you walk How to Fish's islands, and Minecraft's world, your hotbar, your hearts and its mobs appear around you.

Powered by SkyCraft (by chasmlol), which was made to put Minecraft inside Skyrim.

What you get

  • Minecraft in the game's world: place and break blocks on the islands, with Minecraft's crosshair, hotbar, inventory, crafting and chat.
  • One health bar: Minecraft's damage (creepers, TNT, zombies, falls, fire...) hurts your How to Fish player, and Minecraft's healing heals it. Your money shows as emeralds.
  • Minecraft fishing with real catches, and selling fish to the game's NPCs. Buying things in the game's shops gives you Minecraft items.
  • F5 views: first person, third person from behind and from the front, with your Minecraft character (Steve or another of Minecraft's built-in characters if your skin is see-through).
  • Fireworks: a firework shot from a crossbow bursts like a Minecraft firework, even without a firework star.
  • Explosions in the water bring up fish, just like the game's dynamite: TNT, creepers, firework bursts.
  • Boats float on the game's sea; flying (double-tap Space) switches to Creative and back.

What you need

  • How to Fish with this mod (installed by the mod manager, together with BepInEx).
  • Minecraft: Java Edition (you must own it) and Prism Launcher (free), signed in with your Microsoft account.
  • Windows. A PC that can run both games at once (8 GB of RAM is the minimum; 16 GB is better).

Setup (once)

  1. Install FishCraft Link with the Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman (profile for How to Fish).
  2. Install Prism Launcher and add your Microsoft account in it (Accounts, Add Microsoft).
  3. Import the Minecraft side: in Prism, click Add Instance, choose Import, and pick the file FishCraft.mrpack. To find it: in the mod manager, open Settings, Browse profile folder, then BepInEx > plugins > FishCraft-FishCraft_Link. Keep the instance name FishCraft (the mod starts that instance). Prism downloads Minecraft 26.3, Fabric and Fabric API by itself.
  4. Start Minecraft from Prism once and close it again (so it finishes downloading and creates its folders).
  5. Start How to Fish from the mod manager. Minecraft starts by itself in the background, and Minecraft mode turns on once you are in a game.

Keys

Key What it does
F6 Minecraft mode on / off
F5 Change view (first person, behind, front)
F3 + F4 Minecraft's game mode switcher (hold F3, tap F4, let go)
Esc Minecraft's menu (F6 first to reach How to Fish's menu)
E Inventory (E again closes it)
F The game's own interact (shops, NPCs, boats)
Space, twice Fly
F7 Hide or show Minecraft's HUD

Settings

Everything can be changed in the mod manager's Config editor (local.fishcraftlink.cfg), each setting with a plain explanation: the skin shown in third person, how hard Minecraft's damage hits, hunger, fireworks, fish from explosions, and more.

Good to know

  • Some features (paying for fish, hunger, explosions bringing up fish) only work in a game you host. Playing in someone else's lobby works, but those are up to the host. Multiplayer has had little testing so far.
  • Minecraft's own mobs do not spawn by themselves in the linked world; use spawn eggs or commands.
  • If Minecraft does not start: open Prism once, check the instance is called FishCraft, and start it there to see any error. The game's log (BepInEx/LogOutput.log) and Minecraft's (logs/latest.log in the instance) say what went wrong.

Credits and licenses

  • FishCraft Link by FishCraft, MIT License.
  • SkyCraft by chasmlol (MIT): its protocol, and its Minecraft mod, included in FishCraft.mrpack with two small changes (no "destruction" button in the pause menu; firework bursts are reported to the game). See THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md.
  • OWCraft by Yaekai (MIT): parts of the drawing code.
  • Not an official Minecraft product. Not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft. Not affiliated with the makers of How to Fish. Minecraft is needed and is not included.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.80.0

A big update covering everything since the first release.

Combat and creatures

  • Your own hits (swords, axes, spears, maces, tridents, bows, crossbows, fists) do 700 to 1000 damage to the game's creatures.
  • Minecraft's mobs hunt the game's fish and bosses, walk to them (even where Minecraft's own pathfinding gives up), and hit them for 500 to 2000, scaled by how strong the mob is (a spider or skeleton arrow is weakest, an iron golem or warden strongest).
  • The game's own fighting creatures (piranhas, mantas, the bowhead whale, pufferfish, spider crabs, albatrosses, bosses) fight Minecraft's mobs instead of you, biting with their own damage; they never hurt you while Minecraft mode is on.
  • Idle mobs wander around instead of standing still.
  • Lava (the game's or Minecraft's) burns the game's creatures for 500.
  • Explosions (TNT, creepers, crossbow fireworks) hit nearby creatures for 1000, on top of making fish burst out of the water.
  • The game's boss fight bar stays on screen in Minecraft mode.
  • Dead, held or inventoried creatures are no longer picked as mob targets.
  • Fixed spiders and cave spiders being drawn with your (Steve) skin instead of their own.

Movement and views

  • F3 + F4 switches Minecraft's game mode.
  • Boats float properly, including at the edge of loaded water, and the camera no longer rolls, nods or bobs while riding one.
  • Gliding with an elytra switches the view to third person automatically, and back to first person when you land.
  • The Minecraft character no longer stays on screen after switching back to How to Fish from a third-person view.
  • The mod never switches your game mode to Survival by itself.
  • Removed the double-tap-Space-to-fly shortcut (it confused Survival with Creative's damage immunity); use F3 + F4, /gamemode, or the FlightMode = Always setting instead.

Other

  • Minecraft's own "Save and Quit to Title" button is hidden from the pause menu, so it can't be clicked by habit.
  • Buying the knife no longer gives a free Netherite sword.
  • Removed the "Skyrim Destruction" button from the pause menu.
  • Smoother third-person character movement.
