README

HTF Custom Radio

Turns the How to Fish radio into a dial with your stations.

The in-game radio isn't a playlist player: it's a dial with channels, each sitting at its own frequency. This mod replaces what those channels play. The radio has 4 channels, so 4 of your stations are on the air at once.

Install it and you're done

Nothing to configure. The mod uses your Windows music folder and turns each subfolder into a station:

Music/
├── Lofi/      -> "Lofi" station
├── Rock/      -> "Rock" station
└── Jazz/      -> "Jazz" station

Drop music in there, load the game, pick up a radio and turn the dial.

Supported formats: .ogg, .wav, .mp3. OGG loads faster and uses less memory.

Prefer a different folder? Put it in MusicFolders (several separated by ;). Want a whole folder to be one single station instead of being split up? Set SplitSubfolders = false.

In-game keys

  • F10 — skip to the next song on whatever station you're tuned into. The mod works out which one from the dial, so there's nothing to select.
  • F9 — re-scan your folders without restarting the game, handy while setting stations up.

Both are rebindable in the config.

Multiplayer

Works in co-op without anyone else installing it. The tuned frequency is already synced by the game; audio plays locally on each client. Nothing can drift out of sync — you hear your library, your friend hears theirs, both on the same spot of the dial.

Everyone hearing the same thing

Read this before expecting it to work. Right now only the song name travels over the network, never the audio. That means every player must already own the same files, in a folder with the same name. If the host has Rock/song.mp3 and you have Music/song.mp3, nothing happens — the mod tells you so in the log, but nothing plays.

Automatic file transfer, so that only the host needs the music, is being worked on.

With SyncWithHost = true (the default), the host decides which song plays and when, and everyone who does have that file starts it together.

  • Players without the mod are completely unaffected — the message is skipped on their end.
  • If you're missing a file, your log says exactly which station and song, and you keep playing your own music.
  • Set SyncWithHost = false to always hear your own library regardless of the host.

The practical way to use it today: one person picks the music, zips their station folder, and sends it to everyone else to drop into their own music folder. Same folder name, same file names.

Being upfront: this feature could not be tested in a real multiplayer session before release. If something misbehaves, turn it off and please report it.

Internet radio

StreamStations = Lofi=https://example.com/stream.mp3;Jazz=https://other.com/jazz.ogg

The URL must point at a direct audio stream (.mp3 / .ogg), like the ones internet radio stations publish. A YouTube link won't work: Unity plays audio, not web pages. If you want one specific song from YouTube, download it first and drop it in a folder.

Sharing a station pack

To hand a friend a pack with everything included, put the music inside the plugin folder:

BepInEx/plugins/HTFCustomRadio/Stations/
├── 88.5 - Lofi/
│   └── track01.ogg
└── 101.2 - Metal/
    └── whatever.mp3

The mod looks for Stations folders inside any installed plugin, so station packs can be published as separate packages that depend on this one.

Stations are assigned to the dial in alphabetical order. That's deliberate: two players with the same pack get the same order and can talk about the same station.

Options

Option Default What it does
UseMyMusicFolder true Use your Windows music folder, no setup needed
MusicFolders empty Extra folders, separated by ;
SplitSubfolders true Each subfolder becomes its own station
SkipKey F10 Skip to the next song
ReloadKey F9 Re-scan folders without restarting
Shuffle true Random order, never repeating the previous track
KeepOriginalStations 0 How many of the game's own stations to leave untouched
AnnounceTrack true Log which track starts playing
SyncWithHost true The host decides what plays; everyone hears it together
StreamStations empty Internet stations, Name=URL separated by ;

Troubleshooting

Nothing plays. Check BepInEx/LogOutput.log. On startup the mod logs which folder it is using and which stations it found. An empty list means that folder has no audio in a supported format.

A file gets skipped. Unity failed to decode it. MP3s with unusual tags are the usual culprit — re-export to OGG.

A station stopped by itself. If a station somehow chains tracks at an impossible rate, the mod shuts it down and logs an error instead of eating your memory. Press the reload key to bring it back, and please report it.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.3.2
