README

HTF Day and Night

A full day and night cycle for How to Fish.

The endless noon becomes a living sky: the sun arcs overhead and sinks into the sea through a burning sunset, stars and a galaxy wheel across the night with a glowing moon, and dawn brings the sun back out of the water. Shadows, golden-hour light, moonlight, clouds, fog and even the ocean's reflections all follow the cycle - and everything returns to normal the moment you quit.

Features

  • Sun that rises, crosses the sky and truly sets - with golden hour light and moving shadows on everything in the world
  • Night: a painted galaxy (stars, milky band, dust rift, nebulae), a glowing detailed moon that rises as the sun sets, moon-shadows, darkened clouds
  • Smooth dusk and dawn transitions - sunset burns over the sun's grave and cools on the opposite horizon
  • The ocean mirrors the live sky: molten at sunset, ink at night
  • Works everywhere in the world, on every island, while sailing
  • Time controls: hold Right Arrow to fast-forward time, Left Arrow to rewind (configurable)
  • Day length configurable (default: one full day = 20 real minutes)
  • Menus stay untouched; everything restores on quit

Installation

With a mod manager (easiest)

  1. Install r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager.
  2. Select How to Fish, search for HTFDayNight, click Install (BepInEx is installed automatically as a dependency).
  3. Press Start modded.

Manual

  1. Install BepInEx 5 x64 into the game folder - the one with How to Fish.exe (Steam: right-click the game, Manage, Browse local files).
  2. Run the game once and quit, so BepInEx creates its folders.
  3. Copy HTFDayNight.dll and htfsky.bundle into How to Fish/BepInEx/plugins/. Both files must sit side by side.

Then just play. You spawn at noon; sunset begins after a few minutes (or hold Right Arrow to see it now). Nothing needs enabling in-game.

Configuration

After the first run, edit BepInEx/config/yoxi.htf.daynight.cfg:

Setting Default Meaning
MinutesPerDay 20 Real minutes per full day
TimeBackKey LeftArrow Hold to rewind time (None to disable)
TimeForwardKey RightArrow Hold to fast-forward (None to disable)
TimeScrubSeconds 8 Holding a key crosses one day in this many seconds

Compatibility

  • Works with the HTF custom-map loader: maps that carry their own sky automatically defer to this mod.
  • Contains no game assets: the entire sky (meshes, textures, shaders) is generated content shipped in htfsky.bundle.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.1.1

  • Compatibility with HTF Weather: the sky keeper now leaves the weather mod's storm layers alone (they ship dormant in the sky bundle and were being hidden by mistake). Install this update if you run both mods.

1.1.0 (2026-08-29)

  • CO-OP SYNC: time now rides the FishNet server tick - identical for every player, correct on a joiner's first frame, zero network traffic. Falls back to a local saved clock when no server is running.
  • Arrow keys in a synced game shift only YOUR view of the shared time; press F9 (rebindable) to resync to everyone else exactly.
  • New [Night] config section: MoonlightIntensity, MoonlightColor, FogColor, FogDensityMultiplier.
  • Fog density now interpolates through the cycle alongside its colour.
  • Underwater fog is left entirely alone - diving looks the way the game intended, day or night.

1.0.5 (2026-08-29)

  • Hotbar icons stay bright at night in all cases (reflection probes now join the daylight snapshot)
  • Night water column is more opaque through dusk

1.0.4 (2026-08-29)

  • Hotbar icons no longer darken at night - item snapshots are always taken in daylight, whatever hour they happen

1.0.3 (2026-08-29)

  • The clock now PAUSES when you leave the world and resumes exactly where it stood next time you play (saved in the config as SavedTimeOfDay)
  • Hotbar item icons no longer vanish at night
  • Night water is far more opaque - the deep keeps its secrets after dark
  • The water's transparency controls are no longer disturbed by the sky tint

1.0.2 (2026-08-29)

  • THE HORIZON RULE: the sun and moon now only ever appear or vanish by crossing the horizon - the sun sinks into the sea at full brightness and rises back out of it, the moon emerges from the opposite waterline
  • Sunset and sunrise are now exact mirrors (celestial geometry corrected: sun at the horizon at precisely mid-dusk and mid-dawn)
  • Noon sun and midnight moon stand at the zenith
  • Sunset glow now gathers only over the horizon where the sun sank, and waits on the sunrise horizon before dawn - the opposite sky cools to violet

1.0.1 (2026-08-29)

  • Night water no longer reveals submerged island slopes - the water column itself darkens with the sky
  • Clearer log message when htfsky.bundle is missing

1.0.0 (2026-08-29)

First release.

  • Full day/night cycle: sun, moon, galaxy night, dusk and dawn
  • Cycle-driven lighting, shadows, golden hour, moonlight
  • Live sky reflections on the ocean; sky-tinted horizon fog
  • Arrow-key time travel; configurable day length and keys
