V2T - Voice Chat for Jump Space

by Pasharacc / ICGICommander

Talk to your crew. Hold one key and speak.

Your words appear in chat for everyone, and every crewmate who has V2T hears your voice live. In any lobby, whoever hosts it. Press T and V2T gives you the chat itself: a history you can scroll, crewmates named in their own colours, and the game's own messages in the same place.

The benefits of V2T

- Voice chat in any lobby, whoever hosts

Voice chat is between players who have V2T installed. Host your own game, join a friend, or drop into a stranger's lobby: every player there with V2T can talk to every other player with V2T, even when the host does not have it. Players without V2T do not hear the voice chat, but they still read what you say, transcribed as normal chat text.

- Speech to text in 42 languages

Speak, and within about a second your words appear as a normal chat message. Everyone can read the message, with or without V2T. English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Mandarin and many more.

- Speak any language, send English

Speak in your own language and V2T sends your words to chat in English, so the whole crew can read you.

- Push to talk / Voice activation

Hold a key to talk, or switch to voice activation and just speak.

- Private, no servers, no Discord

Speech recognition runs on your own PC, so nothing you say is uploaded to be transcribed. Voice travels over Epic's peer-to-peer networking, the same service the game itself uses, so there is no server, Discord or port forwarding to set up.

- Follows your default audio device

V2T automatically switches to your Windows default microphone and speakers whenever you change them, and reconnects by itself when headphones drop out or come back. No settings to touch.

- A chat you can actually read

Press T and the chat becomes a panel you can scroll back through with the mouse wheel, instead of a few lines fading off the screen. Crewmates are named in the colour the game gives them, so you can tell who said what without reading the names. The game's own messages move in as well: who found what, who sent a component to the ship, who is on the floor and who picked them up.

- Know who you are flying with

Joining a lobby lists everyone in it with their level, on a badge shaped and coloured by tier. Anybody who arrives later gets the same line. It is worked out on your own PC and shown only to you, never sent to anybody.

Huge thanks to Cobaltto ❤️

Cobaltto (also known as WalTaka) spent hours testing V2T in real games with me: hosted sessions, strangers' lobbies, enduring multiple restarts and lobby switches, over and over. Thanks man! ✨

Using V2T

Controls

On most keyboards the ~ ` key sits to the left of 1, just under Esc.

Keys What it does
~ ` (Hold) Push to talk (text is transcribed on release)
~ ` + Tab Switch between TEXT, VOICE, BOTH and MUTE
~ ` + 1 Switch between PUSH TO TALK and VOICE ACTIVATED
~ ` + 2 Pick the language you speak
~ ` + 5 Switch translation to English on or off
~ ` + 6 Re-read the settings file
~ ` + 7 Move the comms panel: top left, bottom centre or top centre
~ ` + 0 Show the controls reminder again
T Open the chat history (the game's own chat key)
~ ` + 9 Turn the history panel off and put the game's chat back
  • Be in a session. The hangar counts. V2T's interface does not display in the menus.
  • The first time you reach the hangar, a short reminder of the controls appears at the bottom of the screen. The reminder goes away the first time you press the talk key. Hold ~ ` and press 0 to bring it back.

While you hold the key, what you say appears where you normally type in chat, with the language you speak at the right end. Your level shows on your own row in the comms panel (see Voice chat below).

  • Watch your level. Green is good, amber is loud, red means you are clipping. Turn your mic gain down if your level hits red.
  • The talk key does nothing while you are typing in chat, or while the game window is not focused.
  • You can start talking as you press. V2T keeps a moment of audio from before the keypress, so short words like "yes" do not get clipped.

The chat panel

Press T, the game's own chat key, and V2T draws the chat in place of the game's. The panel fills the space above the chat box, and the mouse wheel scrolls back through the history. Let the box close and it shrinks back to the last few lines over a dim backdrop.

What is in it:

  • Crew colours. Everyone is named in the colour the game gave them, matching their icon in the crew list. A name whose colour has not reached you yet is white for a second, then turns.
  • The game's own messages. Loot, components sent to the ship, and the lines about players going down, dying and being revived. A warning sign marks somebody incapacitated and the line pulses for a minute; a skull marks a defeat; a mark marks a revive.
  • Item tiers. A found item says its tier after the name, in the item's own colour, so "found Null Tension Generator [Superior]" needs no memorising of which pink means what.
  • Who is here. Joining a lobby lists the crew with their levels, and anybody arriving after you gets a line of their own. Levels appear there and nowhere else: a badge on every message was clutter.

The panel gets out of the way while a game menu is open, and hides the voice overlay while you are reading history, so the two are never stacked on each other.

Hold ~ ` and press 9 to switch the panel off entirely and put the game's own chat back.

Modes

Hold ~ ` and press Tab to switch. The selector shows at the bottom of the screen for a couple of seconds, so you can see which one you landed on.

Mode What the key does Do you hear crewmates?
TEXT Transcribes to chat Yes
VOICE Live voice to crewmates Yes
BOTH Transcribes and talks (the default) Yes
MUTE Transcribes to chat only No
  • BOTH is the safe default: crewmates without V2T still read you, and crewmates with V2T also hear you.
  • MUTE shows a red VOICE CHAT MUTED line at the bottom of the screen the whole time MUTE is on, so you cannot forget you set it. Crewmates with V2T see MUTED (Can't hear you) on your row. Restarting the game always switches MUTE off again.

Push to talk or voice activated

Hold ~ ` and press 1 to switch between the two. A selector flashes up at the bottom of the screen for a couple of seconds, showing which one you landed on.

  • PUSH TO TALK (the default): hold the key to talk, as above.
  • VOICE ACTIVATED: just speak. V2T hears that you are talking and does whatever the current mode does, exactly as if you were holding the key: text to chat, voice to crewmates, or both. Holding ~ ` still works too.
  • Voice activation learns your room's background noise within a few seconds, ignores short clicks and knocks, and keeps listening for 0.7 s after you stop, so pauses between words do not cut you off. The start of each sentence is kept, not clipped.
  • A green VOICE ACTIVATED line stays at the bottom of the screen the whole time voice activation is on, so you always know your mic is live. The choice is remembered between sessions.
  • Use headphones with voice activation. With speakers, voice activation also hears the game and your crewmates, and with text on, their words can end up in your chat.

Voice chat

  • Crewmates need V2T to hear you. Text works for everyone regardless.
  • Everyone with V2T hears everyone else with V2T in the same session, whoever hosts, even when the host does not have it. Allow 10 to 20 seconds after someone joins. Everyone should be on V2T 2.1.6 or newer.
  • You only hear players in your current session, never someone from a lobby you left.

The COMMS panel lists everyone in your session, and stays on screen the whole time you are in a game. It starts in the top left, under the ship status. Hold ~ ` and press 7 to move it to the bottom centre, again for the top centre, and once more to bring it back.

Row What it means
TX your name You. Lights up while you are sending
RX name A crewmate with V2T. Lights up while they talk. Several people can talk at once
name ●○○ connecting V2T is still connecting to a player who just joined
✕ name No V2T detected That player does not have V2T. Shown in red for a few seconds, about a minute after they join, then the row goes
RX name MUTED (Can't hear you) That crewmate has V2T on MUTE and hears nobody

The counter includes you: V2T | 3/4 ACTIVE means 3 of the 4 players in your session have V2T, and V2T | 1/4 ACTIVE means only you do.

If your level does not move

Hold the talk key for a second without speaking. If V2T hears nothing from the microphone, the chat field says, in amber:

NO AUDIO DETECTED | <the microphone V2T is listening to>

V2T always listens to your Windows default input and follows it live. Pick the right microphone in Windows Settings > System > Sound > Input and V2T switches to it within a second, no restart needed.

Voice chat uses Steam's microphone setting, not V2T's. If your text works but crewmates cannot hear you, check Steam > Settings > Voice > Voice Input Device.

Other languages

V2T understands 42 languages, including Dutch, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Japanese and Mandarin.

  • Hold ~ ` and press 2 in game to open the language picker
  • Press 2 again (still holding ~ `) to move down the list
  • Whichever you pick is shown as a tag, such as NL, at the right end of the chat field while you talk

English uses its own smaller, faster model. The larger multilingual one is only loaded the first time you pick another language, so staying in English costs you nothing.

If you only ever use two or three of them, set Languages (see Settings) to just those. The picker then holds only your list, so switching takes a press or two instead of hunting through 42 entries.

V2T only listens for the selected language. Speak English while German is selected and you get confident-looking nonsense, so check the language tag while you talk.

Manual install

Only needed if you are not using a mod manager. The one zip below is the quickest way.

Download the V2T zip from Google Drive

Download the V2T drop-in zip with the button above (direct link). The zip holds MelonLoader and V2T together, so there is nothing else to get first. Extract everything in the zip into your Jump Space folder, next to Jump Space.exe (in Steam: right-click Jump Space > Manage > Browse local files), then start the game. The first start takes a few minutes and may look frozen. That is normal.

If Windows asks whether to replace version.dll, choose Skip. Another mod, such as More Players, uses that name. Then save the zip's version.dll into the folder as winhttp.dll and both load side by side. INSTALL.txt in the zip says the same.

Google Drive warns that it cannot scan the zip for viruses because the file is large: click Download anyway.

Step by step

If you would rather install V2T by hand.

Requirements

  • Jump Space
  • MelonLoader 0.7.3 (x64)
  • A microphone
  • A few spare CPU cores
  • ~450 MB of disk space

1. Install MelonLoader

First, find your Jump Space folder. In Steam, right-click Jump Space > Manage > Browse local files. A folder opens containing Jump Space.exe. Keep that window open, you will need it again in step 2.

Then:

  • Download MelonLoader.x64.zip (19 MB)
  • Open the zip. Inside are a MelonLoader folder and version.dll
  • Copy both into your Jump Space folder, next to Jump Space.exe

⚠️ Check for an existing version.dll first.

Look in your Jump Space folder before copying. If a version.dll is already there, another mod is using that filename and copying MelonLoader's over it would break that mod. The More Players mod uses it, and so do various other native mods, injectors and overlays, so check rather than assume you would know.

If one is there:

  • Keep it, and rename MelonLoader's version.dll to winhttp.dll as you copy it in.
  • Both mods then load side by side. This is tested and works.

If winhttp.dll is taken too, MelonLoader accepts other proxy names. Check its wiki for the current list.

2. Copy this package in

Drag the Mods, UserLibs and Plugins folders from this zip into your Jump Space folder, next to Jump Space.exe. You should end up with:

JumpSpace\
  Plugins\
    V2TBootstrap.dll
  Mods\
    V2T.dll
    V2T\
      ggml-small.en-q5_1.bin (English)
      ggml-small-q5_1.bin (all other languages)
      runtimes\win-x64\ (4 .dll files)
  UserLibs\ (4 .dll files)

Why there is a Plugins folder in here. When Jump Space updates, MelonLoader 0.7.3 keeps leftovers from the previous game version in its working folder, and since 0.7.16.6 one of those leftovers makes MelonLoader crash while preparing the game for mods, so nothing loads. V2TBootstrap.dll runs before that step and clears the leftovers. The plugin is 6 KB of plain housekeeping, nothing from MelonLoader itself. Skip this folder and the console says Error Generating Interop Assemblies and V2T never appears.

3. Launch

The first start takes a few minutes while MelonLoader sets itself up, and the window may look frozen. That is normal. A black console window opens alongside the game. Among other lines, the console should show these, in this order:

[voice] live voice ready (mode: BOTH - voice and chat)
push-to-talk key: Backquote (vk 0xC0)
english model loaded in 310 ms (ggml-small.en-q5_1.bin)
microphone: <your mic> (the Windows default input - V2T follows it)
ready - hold Backquote to talk.

Linux and Steam Deck

Jump Space runs through Proton there, and V2T runs with it (tested with r2modman on Proton 11). Two one-time steps, whichever way you install:

  1. In Steam, right-click Jump Space > Properties > General > Launch Options and paste: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="version,winhttp=n,b" %command%
  2. Install the Windows .NET 6 runtime into the game's Proton prefix: protontricks 1757300 dotnetdesktop6

Your log is in MelonLoader/Latest.log inside the game folder, or inside your profile folder if you use r2modman (Settings > Locations > Browse profile folder).

Settings

UserData\MelonPreferences.cfg. Edit it with the game closed, or edit it while playing and press ![~ `](https://img.shields.io/badge/~ `-3a3f5c?style=flat) + 6 right after saving (otherwise the game can overwrite your change when it next saves its settings). After that, `Volume`, `TalkMode`, `InputMode`, `TranslateToEnglish`, the voice activation settings and the voice processing settings (`HighPassHz`, `Denoise`, `AutoLevel`, `Compressor`) change straight away. Anything else, such as the keys, `PlaybackLatencyMs` or `JitterBufferMs`, needs a game restart.

If something is wrong

Logs are in MelonLoader\Logs\. Set Verbose = true for more detail.

Symptom Fix
Nothing happens on the key Are you in a session? Is the game focused? Check push-to-talk key: in the log
NO AUDIO DETECTED in the chat field Wrong input. Make your mic the default input in Windows sound settings; V2T follows it
Voice activated triggers on its own Use headphones, or raise VoiceActivationThresholdDb to 18
Voice activated misses quiet speech Lower VoiceActivationThresholdDb to 8
Text works, crewmates cannot hear you Check Steam > Settings > Voice > Voice Input Device. Voice uses Steam's mic, not V2T's
V2T | 1/4 ACTIVE Your crewmates need to install V2T too. Your text still reaches them
Two crewmates cannot hear each other Both need V2T 2.1.6 or newer. Allow 20 seconds after joining
A crewmate with V2T shows No V2T detected They need V2T 2.1.6 or newer. Their row becomes a normal RX row as soon as the link opens
Voice breaks up Raise JitterBufferMs to 300. If voice crackles instead, raise PlaybackLatencyMs
You hear nobody and VOICE CHAT MUTED shows at the bottom of the screen You are in MUTE. Hold ~ ` and press Tab
"Native Library not found" Mods\V2T\runtimes\win-x64\ must contain all 4 .dll files
Error Generating Interop Assemblies in the console Plugins\V2TBootstrap.dll is missing. Copy the Plugins folder from this package in and relaunch
Your level is red Turn your mic gain down. Clipping hurts speech to text accuracy
Transcripts are wrong Try a bigger model, or check the language tag while you talk
Stutters while transcribing Lower Threads to 4
Broke after a game update MelonLoader rebuilds itself on next launch (slow once). If V2T still fails, V2T needs an update

Notes

  • The mic stays open while the game runs, so Windows shows the microphone as in use. The open microphone is what lets V2T capture the start of short words. Audio is continuously overwritten in memory and never saved. Audio is only sent or transcribed while you hold the key, or while voice activation is on and hears you speak.
  • Voice never touches chat. Compression happens on your own machine through Steam's voice codec, and packets travel over Epic's peer-to-peer networking, the same service the game uses for its own connections. No Steam ID leaves your machine; crewmates with V2T only receive the name the game already shows them, and whether you have V2T on mute.
  • Transcription runs on a background thread, so the game does not freeze while V2T transcribes.

Built with MelonLoader, Whisper.net, whisper.cpp and NAudio.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

4.1.2

  • New: the ready key beside your card in the hangar. V2T's card replaces the game's player bar, and with it the game's flashing "press B" prompt. Now, once a mission is picked, an amber block to the right of your card shows the game's key for readying up and its own words. It pops in, sends out a ring every few seconds and flashes with the game's prompt, and it goes away when you are ready. With no mission picked it stays hidden, because the key does nothing then.
  • Fixed: your own card in the hangar now shows the green READY when you ready up.
  • New: the lobby list highlights what changed at each update. A seat taken sends a ring out from that seat; a seat left turns red and empties. A jump sends a ring out from the new chevron. A new mission or threat level recolours the mission and fills its blocks one by one. A new lobby's row opens and glows green; a lobby that closed turns faint red, fades and closes up. A new ship, name, host, password, V2T tag, level limit or region gets a ring or a glow too. Nothing flashes when you open the list or change a filter.

4.1.1

  • New: HUD layout. Press Esc in the hangar or a mission and click HUD layout at the bottom of the screen. Drag the chat box, the crew cards, your card and your currencies wherever you want them, and resize them by a corner. A faint grid with the centre lines helps line things up; hold Shift to snap to it. Drag across empty space, or Ctrl + drag, to select several panels and move them together. Each panel's name tag has its own Reset; Reset all and Done sit at the bottom.
  • The chat's text size is on the chat box's name tag in the HUD layout, from 70 to 130 %. It sizes the chat text only.
  • The crew cards' name tag has a Players slider (2 to 11) that fills the cards with stand-ins, so you can see how a full lobby fits.
  • The chat box has a new standard spot and size on the left, under the crew cards, and the game's chat input follows it wherever you put it.
  • New: your card in the hangar. It replaces the game's player bar at the bottom left, with your level, rank, XP inside the bar, your voice meter and your buttons, and your currencies above it.
  • New: chat cards. Every message sits on its own card. A found item gets a card with an icon for what it is (a stim, a weapon, a ship part, or a backpack for anything else), the item in its tier colour and the tier on a small tag. Items without a tier, such as Med stims and grenades, get no tag.
  • Crewmates going down, getting back up and dying get cards too: DOWN (pulses for a minute), REVIVED ("is back in the fight!") and DEFEATED ("died...").
  • Routine lines take one line each, with a white icon: materia added, sent to ship, recalled to ship, components installed and uninstalled, shield units, dropped, destroyed, and players joining and leaving. The game's lines are recognised in every language it is translated into.
  • With the crew cards off, the list of who is in the lobby is one card, with everyone's level.
  • Lines about yourself, such as your own death, get their cards too, with your name in white.
  • New icons throughout the chat, drawn smooth instead of pixel art.
  • V2T draws the chat's typing bar itself: a keyboard icon while you type, and your words, your level and a tick when it is sent while you talk.
  • Speech to text knows Jump Space's own words: Materia, Gatling, Med stim, Flak, Railgun, Shield Booster and the rest, in every language the game is translated into, read from the game's own files. Switch it off with GameWords = false.
  • Timestamps are easier to read.

4.1.0

  • New: crew cards. V2T replaces the game's crew list with cards in the top left, in the hangar and in missions: each crewmate's level, their name in the colour the game gives them, the host's crown, where they are on the ship, one bar for health and shield, and a voice meter. With four or more crewmates the cards sit in two columns.
  • In a mission your own card replaces the game's at the bottom left, with your three buttons under it: Push to talk / Voice activated / Mic off, Voice on / Muted and Speech to text / Text off. In the Esc menu they can be clicked.
  • The bars look like glass, lit at the top, with a small gap between health and shield. Health turns amber under half and red under a quarter.
  • A downed crewmate's bar becomes their bleed-out timer, a red bar that shrinks as time runs out, and the card beats like a heart, faster towards the end. Being revived, the bar fills from red to green. A skull marks a defeated crewmate.
  • While the jump drive charges, crewmates in a jump seat turn green and everyone else glows red.
  • In the hangar a crewmate's bar fills green, with READY, when they ready up.
  • The cards stay up while you pilot or man a gun, and step aside during cutscenes.
  • Icons say what you cannot hear: a crossed-out microphone when a crewmate's mic is off, crossed-out headphones when they hear no one, a crossed-out speaker when you muted them. The first block of the voice meter glows green for crewmates with V2T and red for those without.
  • New: per-player volume. In the Esc menu each V2T crewmate's bar becomes a volume slider from 0 to 200 %, and hovering their card shows Mute. Remembered per player.
  • New: game and voice balance, one fader in the Control Panel. Towards Voice the game gets quieter, towards Game your crewmates do. Your game volume setting itself is never changed.
  • New: the V2T Control Panel. Press Esc and it opens beside the Esc menu, and at the main menu it sits beside V2T's lobby list. Your microphone and speakers, Hear crewmates, Talk to crewmates, Speech to text, the talk key and the speech to text toggle key (click, then press a key), push to talk or voice activated, your language, translation, the chat panel, the crew cards, the Press Esc reminder and the lobby browser. Every change applies and is saved at once.
  • The talk key + number and Tab combinations are gone: everything they did is in the Control Panel. Settings file edits now apply the next time the game starts.
  • TEXT, VOICE, BOTH and MUTE are now three switches: Hear crewmates, Talk to crewmates and Speech to text. Hear crewmates stays off after a restart if you switched it off.
  • New: a speech to text toggle key, the key left of Backspace (= on most keyboards). It switches between voice only and voice with speech to text, and never turns your voice or mic off.
  • Crewmates now see when your mic is off, so nobody talks thinking they are heard. Needs 4.1.0 on both sides.
  • The chat says when somebody leaves the game.
  • New startup card: "Press Esc to see all options", until you open the Esc menu. Switch it off in the Control Panel (Press Esc reminder).
  • The VOICE CHAT MUTED and VOICE ACTIVATED lines at the bottom of the screen are gone. Your buttons show that state now.
  • V2T crew cards can be switched off in the Control Panel for the game's own crew list and health bars, with V2T's comms panel in the top left. Its statuses are icons now, and players without V2T leave it after a few seconds. Opening the Esc menu still brings up the cards, for the volume sliders.
  • With the crew cards on, the chat no longer lists everyone when you join a lobby: the cards already show them.
  • The V2T logo also opens V2T's Discord.

4.0.0

  • New: V2T's own lobby browser replaces the game's list. Click a lobby to join it, click a column to sort by it, and see each lobby's host, crew, mission and threat, ship, jumps and region at a glance. It opens by itself when the game reaches its main menu, and again when a join does not work out.
  • Lobbies are grouped into Friends (a Steam friend hosts it or is in it), Public and Password Protected. Inside each group, lobbies of V2T players come first and full lobbies last.
  • Filter by Not full, No password, V2T Detected, Friends and Flew Together (hosts you have flown with in the last 30 days), by a Threat range and by region. Your filters are remembered, and a friend's lobby is never filtered away.
  • Regions show how far away they are, green to red with signal bars, measured from your PC through Steam's network. No made-up ping numbers.
  • The list keeps itself up to date every 5 seconds while it is open, without jumping around: lobbies stay where they are while their crews, jumps and missions change. Switch Live off next to Refresh to update only when you ask.
  • Hover the seats of a lobby hosted by a V2T player to see who is in it, with their levels. Set ShareCrew = false to keep your crew's names to yourself.
  • Joining shows a card with the game's own loading steps and a Cancel button. When a join fails, the game's reason appears in the same card.
  • Your own lobby is in the list, marked Your Lobby in gold. Click it to manage it.
  • New: host from V2T's Your lobby popup. Type the name (up to 54 characters) and password straight in, pick a region by its ping or leave it on Auto, and make the lobby public or private. Check Reachability confirms other players can find it.
  • New: player level limit. When you host, choose which levels (1 to 15) may stay. Anyone outside it is told in the chat and removed once they have loaded in. Steam friends always have access unless you switch that off. The limit shows on your lobby in V2T's list, and as a tag in its name, such as [Lv 10+], for players without V2T. Levels above 15 are always let in, because that would mean a game update V2T does not know about yet.
  • Go to Hangar and Host Game sit on the bottom edge of the list. Go to Hangar is greyed out while you are in your own session.
  • The Esc menu has Browse lobbies and Host Game. Until now, hosting left you no way back to the lobby list. Both Host Game buttons say Manage Session while you host a public lobby, and are greyed out on someone else's ship.
  • A V2T | JS switch at the top right of the screen swaps between V2T's lobby browser and the game's own, for example for controller players. The game's own list still shows the V2T tag and puts V2T lobbies first.
  • New: update notice. At game start V2T asks Thunderstore (or Nexus Mods) which version is the newest. When yours is older, the chat says so at the top of every lobby, and the V2T logo in the lobby browser becomes an Update tile that opens both pages. Set CheckForUpdates = false to never check.
  • The V2T tag is now a plain green V2T, without the square brackets.

3.1.1

  • Fixed a small stutter every few seconds in lobbies and missions. V2T looked up everyone's level and colour by searching the whole scene every 3 seconds, which took up to 70 ms in a busy hangar. It now only looks when someone joins or leaves.

3.1.0

  • The talk key now works on every keyboard layout. V2T was listening for the key left of 1 as a US keyboard reports it, so on UK, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Swiss and Nordic keyboards that key did nothing. It now asks Windows which key sits under Esc on your layout, and follows you if you switch layout while playing. Thanks to R3D34TH for reporting it.
  • The controls reminder and every other hint show the talk key the way your keyboard prints it: [ º ] on Spanish, [ ^ ] on German, [ ² ] on French.
  • PushToTalkKey also accepts the character printed on a key. Writing º, ^ or , picks the key that types it on your keyboard.
  • The key names Minus, Equals, LeftBracket, RightBracket, Backslash, Semicolon, Quote, Comma, Period and Slash now mean the key in that position on a US keyboard, on every layout. Before, some of them picked a different key on non-US keyboards.
  • On a keyboard where the key under Esc is a number key (Hungarian), the log now says so and suggests another talk key, because V2T's own [talk key] + [0] cannot work there.
  • New: lobbies hosted by a player running V2T 3.1.0 or newer show a green [V2T] tag in the server browser, for everyone with V2T, and are listed first. Players without the mod see your lobby name exactly as you typed it. Set MarkMyLobby = false to host without the tag.

3.0.0

  • V2T now draws the chat itself. Press T and you get a proper history panel: scroll it with the mouse wheel, read back as far as you like, and it stays legible over the game.
  • The game's own messages live in it too. Loot, components sent to the ship, players going down, dying and being revived all appear in the panel instead of the game's log, with a warning sign next to somebody who is incapacitated, a skull for a defeat and a mark for a revive. The incapacitated line pulses for a minute, because it is the one worth looking at.
  • Crewmates are named in the colour the game gives them, the same colour as their icon in the crew list, so you can tell who said what at a glance. A name you have not been given a colour for yet is white until it arrives, rather than guessing.
  • Joining a lobby lists who is in it, with their level on a badge shaped and coloured by tier: a square for Standard, a shield for Refined, a hexagon for Advanced and a banner for Superior. The list is yours alone, it is never sent to anybody. Players arriving later get the same line.
  • Found items now say their tier after the name, in the item's own colour, so "found Null Tension Generator [Superior]" reads without knowing the palette by heart.
  • Hold ` and press 9 to turn the panel off and put the game's own chat back.
  • The panel fades out of the way while a game menu is open, and hides the voice overlay while you are reading history so the two do not sit on top of each other.
  • Levels only appear in the lobby list and on join lines. On the messages themselves they were clutter.

2.1.9

  • The zip from the Thunderstore website now opens with "How to install manually (no mod manager).txt", which walks you through installing MelonLoader 0.7.3 and V2T step by step, with the download links. Mod manager users can ignore it, nothing changed for them.
  • The download from Nexus and Google Drive still has MelonLoader 0.7.3 inside it, so that one stays a single download with nothing else to get first.
  • The manual download is now two clearly named files: V2T-2.1.9-with-MelonLoader.zip and V2T-2.1.9-without-MelonLoader.zip, both with the full guide as V2T-README.pdf.
  • English now uses the small model (ggml-small.en-q5_1) instead of base. It gets names, callouts and fast speech right far more often. It takes about 1.5 s instead of 0.4 s from letting go of the key, and the download is bigger.
  • Updating from an older version moves you to the new English model by itself, as long as it is in Mods\V2T. Set ModelEnglish back in MelonPreferences.cfg if you preferred the old one.
  • If the model named in your settings is not in Mods\V2T (after an update, say), V2T now uses the best English model that is there and says so in the log, instead of starting with no speech to text at all.

2.1.7

  • You only hear players who are in your current session. A voice link can outlive the lobby it was made in, and V2T used to play voice from anyone whose link was still open, so after moving to a different lobby you could still hear someone from the last one (especially someone on an older V2T, which never forgets anyone).
  • When a player leaves your session, V2T now also closes its voice link to them, instead of only stopping sending.
  • Two players who move to the same new lobby together keep their link and never notice.
  • New: hold ` and press 5 to switch translate to English on or off. Pick the language you speak and chat gets English.
  • Every control is now plus a key: + 2 opens the language picker (was F10) and ` + 6 re-reads the settings file (was F7). F10 and F7 no longer do anything.
  • Re-reading the settings now says plainly what it applied, and what needs a game restart.
  • New comms panel in the top left, on screen the whole time you are in a game: a row for you and one for every crewmate with V2T, lit while that person talks. A player who just joined shows as connecting; one without V2T shows No V2T detected for a few seconds, then leaves the list. A crewmate who has V2T on MUTE shows MUTED (Can't hear you).
  • Hold ` and press 7 to move the comms panel: top left, bottom centre or top centre. The choice is remembered.
  • Hold ` and press 0 to show the controls reminder again.
  • The counter includes you: the only V2T player in a crew of four reads V2T | 1/4 ACTIVE.
  • What you say now appears where you type in chat. Past 240 characters it turns red: that part is cut off when the message is sent.
  • The mode and push to talk selectors, VOICE CHAT MUTED and VOICE ACTIVATED now sit at the bottom centre of the screen.
  • Fixed: after a key combination, letting go of the second key first started a short recording that could be sent to chat.
  • The controls reminder in the hangar shows every combo as [ ` ] + [ 1 ] = what it does, with the V2T version in its title.
  • Confirmed in a real game (2.1.6): two players who were not the host, in a stranger's lobby whose host had no V2T, connected in about 20 seconds.
  • Thanks to Cobaltto (also known as WalTaka) for hours of in-game testing that found and confirmed the voice chat fixes in 2.1.4 to 2.1.7.

2.1.6

  • Voice between two V2T players should now connect within about 10 seconds instead of about 3 minutes. Tested on 2.1.5: both players asked Epic for the voice link within half a second of each other, while the game itself was still connecting them, and each request arrived just before the other side was ready. Epic threw both away and then waited about 3 minutes before trying again. V2T now waits 2 seconds after a player appears, and if they have not answered within about 10 seconds it drops its own stuck request and sends a fresh one. The two players use different intervals, so they do not keep colliding. Only V2T's own voice channel is ever reset, never the game's connection.
  • Any voice arriving from a player now counts as proof the link is open, not only their name.

2.1.5

  • Fixed: two players with V2T could take minutes to hear each other, or never did. Epic only opens V2T's voice link once both players have accepted it. Until now that happened as a side effect of sending, which worked while voice went to everyone but rarely with the occasional name message 2.1.4 relied on. V2T now accepts every crewmate's link on purpose, every 2 seconds until they answer.
  • Live voice goes to every player the game connects you to again, as in 2.1.2. Players V2T found another way (the session list, the host's list) get voice once they answer.
  • Players who left are now dropped from the voice list. Before, everyone from every earlier session stayed on it until you restarted the game.
  • The log now says when each voice link opens and how long it took, and names players who probably do not have V2T.

2.1.4

  • Players who are not the host can now find each other even when the host does not run V2T: V2T reads the game's own list of who is in the session. This part is new and not yet tested in a full game. If your log says the session ids "are not Epic ids", a host with V2T 2.1.1 or newer is still needed for non-hosts to hear each other.
  • Live voice is now only sent to players who run V2T, instead of to every player the game connects you to.

2.1.2

  • Live voice now starts on Linux (Proton). V2T learned which player is you from a flag the game sets a few seconds into a session. Under Proton that flag never came, so live voice never started while speech to text worked. V2T now asks the Epic login directly.
  • If live voice cannot start, the log now says once which step it is waiting for.
  • README: a Linux and Steam Deck section.

2.1.1

  • Players who are not the host can now hear each other. The game connects every player to the host only, so before this, two non-hosts with V2T never reached each other. The host now shares the list of V2T players so they connect directly. The host needs 2.1.1 or newer; older versions ignore the new message safely.
  • Incoming voice recovers by itself. If your output device drops out (Bluetooth earbuds reconnecting, a driver reset) or you change the Windows default output, V2T reopens it within a few seconds instead of staying silent until a restart.
  • Works when installed with a mod manager (r2modman, Thunderstore Mod Manager). They put each package in its own folder, where V2T could not find its speech models, so speech to text and the level meter stayed off while voice chat still worked.

2.1.0

  • New: voice activated mode. Hold ` and press 1 to switch between push to talk and voice activated. In voice activated you just speak, and V2T does whatever the current mode does (text, voice, or both) as if you held the key. The start of each sentence is kept. A green VOICE ACTIVATED line stays on screen while it is on. Headphones recommended.
  • New settings: InputMode, VoiceActivationThresholdDb, VoiceActivationHangoverMs.

2.0.5

  • The microphone now always follows the Windows default input, live. Pick another mic in Windows sound settings and V2T switches to it within a second, no restart. It also recovers by itself when the mic is unplugged and plugged back in.
  • Fixes a flat level meter and no transcription when a virtual audio device (a soundboard or virtual cable) sat first in the device list: V2T used the first device in the list, not the default.
  • The MicDevice setting is gone. There is nothing to configure.
  • The download linked from this page is now a plain zip. The separate installer program is retired.

2.0.4

  • The Jump Space 0.7.16.6 fix is now Plugins\V2TBootstrap.dll, 6 KB of housekeeping and nothing else: it clears MelonLoader's leftover working files before MelonLoader prepares the game. Root cause found: the update removed the Backtrace crash reporter from the game, and MelonLoader kept its old dummy assembly in the dump, which then referred to a type the new build no longer has. No MelonLoader or Cpp2IL files are shipped in this package.

2.0.3

  • Same fix as a plugin that bundled Cpp2IL. Superseded by 2.0.4.

2.0.2

  • Same fix as loader files inside the package. Not published on Thunderstore.

2.0.1

  • Listing text only.

2.0.0

  • V2T and V2T+ merged into one mod: speech to text and live voice chat on one key.
  • Modes TEXT / VOICE / BOTH / MUTE, switched with backquote + Tab.
  • Per-crewmate level meters, "N crewmates have V2T" readout, no-audio warning, startup hint.
