README

CozyCats

Cats are hiding in the facility. Find them, scoop them up, and bring them home to the ship.

  • Skittish: cats bolt from anyone standing nearby and keep their distance. Crouch and they'll creep up to you.
  • They follow you home: once you've picked a cat up, set it down and it trots after you, through the facility doors and all the way back to the ship, where it finds a spot to settle in. Lead a whole parade if you like.
  • Every cat is unique: random fur and eye colours, a random size and a name you'll see when you scan them. Their eyes shine faintly in the dark.
  • Cat tree: buy one from the terminal for $50 (buy cat tree). It's furniture, so move it with [B]. Cats living on the ship wander over and nap in it: curled up in the hammock or the top perch, loafing in the cubby or sprawled across the ledge.
  • Life aboard: once home, cats potter about the ship on their own, in orbit too, and curl up for naps on the bunkbeds, the file cabinet and the top of the cupboard.
  • Cozy, not chaotic: cats sit, loaf, idle, blink and twitch their ears. Pick one up and it rolls over in your arms with its paws in the air and purrs quietly.
  • Meow on demand: press LMB while holding a cat. Set down, they'll occasionally meow on their own.
  • Rescue bounty: the first time a cat makes it into the ship, the crew is paid $100 on the spot.
  • Not for sale: cats have no scrap value and the Company counter refuses them. Keep them on the ship as long as you're employed. They're lost when you're fired.
  • Never your downfall: monsters can't hear cats, can't pick them up, and cats never make noise that draws attention. They survive a crew wipe like any other non-scrap item.
  • Every moon has at least one cat hiding in the facility, usually two.

Everyone in the lobby needs the mod.

Config

BepInEx/config/CozyCats.cfg, created the first time you launch:

Section Key Default What it does
Spawning CatChances 1, 0.8 Chance for each cat, rolled in order until one misses. 1, 1, 1 is always three cats; 1, 0.8, 0.6, 0.4 is up to four, each less likely.
Visuals ModelScale 1.0 Size multiplier for every cat.
Cats SpecialCats see below Your own named cats.
Cats SpecialCatChance 0.5 Chance, each landing, that each of your named cats not already on the ship is hiding in the facility.
Rewards RescueBounty 100 Credits paid once per cat when it first reaches the ship (0-1000, 0 turns it off).
Sounds AmbientMeows true Cats that are set down meow softly every few minutes.

Spawning, bounties and special cats follow the host's config.

Your own cats

Add your own cats to SpecialCats. Each one has its own chance (SpecialCatChance, 50% by default) of hiding in the facility every time you land, on top of the usual cats, until it's living on your ship. If you don't find it, it tries again next landing; if it ever leaves the ship for good, it comes back into the running. There's only ever one of each, and ordinary cats never get their names. Separate cats with ; and fields with ,:

Name, FurColour, EyeColour[, CoatLabel shown when scanned]

Colours are #RRGGBB or a preset: Ginger, Black, White, Grey, Cream, Chocolate, Silver, Blue, Fawn, Peach, Green, Yellow, Amber, Copper, Hazel, Olive.

The default is Strider, Black, Yellow; Peaches, Peach, Olive: Strider is a black cat with yellow eyes, and Peaches is a peach-coloured cat with olive-green eyes. They're the two real cats this mod was made for. Keep them if you like.

Credits

All cat sounds are CC0 recordings from Freesound. Attribution isn't required, but these people recorded their cats for everyone, so thank you: PuzzlingGGG (BVMAE meows), foxboyprower (Old Tabby Sounds) and Sadiquecat (Pearl, Perran and Minette purring).

CHANGELOG

Changelog

2.1.2

  • Ship cats also nap on the game's own furniture: both bunks of the bunkbeds, the top of the file cabinet and the top of the cupboard. Furniture that's packed away is left alone, and moving it with [B] takes the spots along.

2.1.1

  • Your named cats (SpecialCats, Strider and Peaches by default) are much easier to find: each one not already on your ship has a 50% chance of hiding in the facility every landing, on top of the usual cats. Miss it and it tries again next landing. New setting [Cats] SpecialCatChance.
  • There's only ever one of each named cat, and ordinary cats never get their names. Lose one from the ship and it comes back into the running.

2.1.0

New: the cat tree! Buy it from the terminal for $50 (buy cat tree, it's always in stock).

  • A big carpeted cat tree with a cubby to hide in, a hammock, a ledge and a lookout on top.
  • Move it with [B] like any other furniture, or pack it away with [X].
  • Cats that live on the ship wander over now and then and nap in it: curled up in the hammock or the top perch, loafing in the cubby, sitting on the condo, or flopped across the ledge. Pick one up for a cuddle any time.
  • Cats now potter about the ship on their own, even in orbit, instead of staying wherever they were put down.
  • New nap poses: curled up asleep, and splayed out lounging.

2.0.1

  • Cats vary a lot more in size, from little ones to proper chonks. Existing cats keep their place in the range.

2.0.0

Cats move now!

  • Cats are skittish: they bolt from anyone standing nearby, but creep up to you if you crouch.
  • Once picked up, a cat follows whoever put it down, all the way home to the ship.
  • Once home, they walk to a spot in the ship and settle in.
  • Faint eyeshine, so you can spot cats in the dark.
  • [Spawning] CatChances replaces MaxCatsPerMoon, ChanceFirstCat and ChanceExtraCat: one chance per cat, e.g. 1, 0.8 (the default) or 1, 1, 1, 1, 1. Customised old settings are carried over.

1.2.0

  • More cats: every moon now has a cat, and usually a second one.
    • [Spawning] FirstCatChance 0.6 → ChanceFirstCat 1.0
    • [Spawning] ExtraCatChance 0.25 → ChanceExtraCat 0.8
    • The settings were renamed so everyone gets the new defaults. If you'd customised them, set the new keys again.

1.1.0

  • Rescue bounty: bringing a cat into the ship for the first time pays the crew $100, shown in the usual "collected" box. New setting [Rewards] RescueBounty (default 100, 0 turns it off).

1.0.0

  • First release. Cats are hiding in the facility, waiting to be rescued.
