Vecna

Part 2 - Haunting Vecna

Description

A supernatural predator that hunts a player's mind rather than their body. Haunting Vecna progresses through multiple phases. Each successful victim brings him one step closer to collapsing the barrier between the normal world and the Upside-Down.

Each haunting follows the same sequence:

  • The haunted player is transported into the Mindscape, becoming invisible to everyone else.
  • An inactive clone of the player is left behind in the normal world.
  • The player hears the Grandfather Clock chime, with the number of chimes matching their current haunting count.

Phase 1 - The Hunt

When Vecna spawns, he selects a player to haunt.

  • A player must be haunted 4 times before Vecna can fully pull them into his lair

First & Second Hauntings

  • A nearby Grandfather Clock appears.
  • Once the haunting ends:
    • The player returns to the normal world.
    • The clone disappears.
    • The Grandfather Clock vanishes.

Third & Fourth Hauntings

  • Instead of a Grandfather Clock, Vecna himself appears nearby.
  • He watches the player but does not attack.
  • If this is not yet the fourth haunting, the player safely returns as before.

Fourth Haunting

After the fourth chime:

  • The player is pulled into Vecna's Lair, inspired by the dimension where Max is trapped in the series.
  • The player's clone remains behind, floating in the air for everyone else to witness.

Phase 2 - Vecna's Lair

Inside the lair, the player must survive a two-minute challenge centered around the Grandfather Clocks.

Objective

Every 12 seconds:

  • A Grandfather Clock appears somewhere in the lair.
  • A little clock appears in the player's hands.
  • The clock displays a target time in its tooltip.

The player must:

  • Rotate both the hour and minute hands (primary and secondary keys).
  • Match the displayed time.
  • Interact with the spawned Grandfather Clock to validate the answer.

Failure

A failure is counted if:

  • The player does not reach the Grandfather Clock in time.
  • The displayed time is incorrect.

After 5 failures, the player is sacrificed.
These failures represent Vecna's ritual from the series : both arms, both legs, and the jaw.

Each failure:

  • Permanently slows the player until the ship leaves.
  • Causes the floating clone in the normal world to visibly suffer another broken limb, allowing teammates to track the player's condition.

Victory

If the player survives the full 2 minutes:

  • They return to their original body.
  • Vecna selects again a player to haunt.

TODO: During this phase, Vecna will actively attack the player.

Phase 3 - World Collapse

If Vecna successfully sacrifices 4 players (could be the same over multiple games), the final phase begins.

  • The Grandfather Clock chimes four times, audible to every player.
  • The barrier separating the Upside-Down from the normal world begins to collapse.
  • Portals tear open across reality (TODO: animation).
  • The Upside Down invades the normal world, permanently merging both dimensions.

TODO: Headphone (Running Up That Hill)

TODO: Max Figurine
