README

Features

A radial emote wheel with more than 300 emotes, ported from TooManyEmotes for Lethal Company by FlipMods (version 2.3.17): waves, cheers, dances and poses, played on your character on top of its usual animation.

The same wheel also gives access to the emotes Outward already has (Fireworks, the pet cosmetic skills, sitting down) and to the emotes added by other mods, each mod in its own tab.

All emotes are available from the start.

Using the wheel

  • Hold the Emote Menu key, point at an emote with the mouse or the right stick, release to play it.
  • A quick tap keeps the wheel open: then left click (gamepad: Interact) plays the emote under the cursor, and Escape or right click closes the wheel.
  • Releasing, or clicking, with the cursor in the center stops the current emote.
  • Mouse wheel: change page. Tab: next tab. F: add or remove the emote under the cursor from the favorites.

The default keyboard key is the one under Escape (` on QWERTY, ² on AZERTY). Every action (open, pages, tab, favorite, camera zoom) can also be bound, keyboard or gamepad, in the game's Controls menu, under Custom Keybindings.

Tabs: Favorites, All, Outward (vanilla emotes and poses), then one tab per mod that adds emotes, in alphabetical order (e.g. Emotes Additions, Too Many Emotes).

During an emote

  • Moving, dodging, blocking or attacking ends the emote, as does starting another action.
  • Your weapon is sheathed when the emote starts, and drawn again when it ends if it was drawn before.
  • The item in your left hand (torch, lantern, lexicon, shield, off-hand weapon) is put away during the emote and equipped again afterwards, relit if it was lit.
  • The mouse wheel zooms the camera in and out while an emote plays. The zoom is kept when you switch emotes from the wheel, and dropped when the emote ends, so the usual camera distance comes back.
  • Choosing an emote while sitting, stretching or using a cosmetic skill replaces it.

Multiplayer

Emotes are synced in co-op: the other players see your emotes, from their start, and a player who joins or arrives in the area sees the emotes already in progress. Every player needs the mod; a player without it simply sees nothing.

Multiplayer was NOT tested.

Options

Via Outward Configuration Manager (F5):

  • Unequip left hand (default on): put away the left hand item during emotes.
  • Draw weapon after emote (default on): draw the weapon again after an emote.
  • Emotes per page (default 10, 6 to 16) and Mouse sensitivity of the wheel.
  • Keyboard keys for the wheel, and the camera zoom inputs (WheelUp, WheelDown, None or a key name).
  • Photon event code (default 113): the network channel of the co-op sync. Change it only if another mod uses the same code; every player must use the same value.

Other mods' emotes

Any cosmetic skill your character knows appears in the wheel, so emote mods built with SideLoader, such as Emotes Additions, get their own tab with no extra setup. The tab is named after the mod's folder.

Known limitations

  • About twenty emotes were designed with a prop (an instrument, a chair...) that is not included: they are played without it.
  • The emote music of the original mod is not included.
  • Group emotes made for several players play their first part only.

Credits

The emotes (and the idea) come from TooManyEmotes 2.3.17 by FlipMods (MIT licence, see THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.md). This is an independent port with code written for Outward; it is not affiliated with FlipMods, so please report issues with it here and not to them.

CHANGELOG

Update 1.1.0

  • Preview: the center of the wheel shows your character playing the emote under the cursor (Too Many Emotes emotes, and the game's poses and cosmetic skills). Option Preview to turn it off.
  • Hands: about 100 emotes (Rock Paper Scissors, many dances) left the finger base joints straight, and Outward's model never bends the fingertips, so a fist looked like an open hand or a claw. Those fingers now curl properly, tips included. Rock Paper Scissors: rock is a tight fist, the folded fingers of scissors are tightly folded, and paper is a flat hand with the fingers together.
  • The click that picks an emote on the wheel (the attack button) no longer reaches the game: no more attack with a drawn weapon, nor a draw-then-sheathe with a sheathed one, before the emote.
  • Smaller download: the animations are stored with a little less precision (hands, feet and head at most 2 mm away from the original, 0.25 mm for 95% of the emotes), 51 MB -> 29 MB. They load in the background while the game starts, without slowing it down.

Update 1.0.0

Initial version. Port of FlipMods' TooManyEmotes 2.3.17 (Lethal Company) to Outward Definitive Edition: the 316 emotes of its package in a radial emote wheel, alongside the vanilla cosmetic skills and poses and the emotes of other mods, with favorites, a stop gesture, emote camera zoom, hand handling (sheathe, off-hand unequip, redraw) and co-op sync. Emotes with variants, like Death Pose, play one at random; the bands (Jug Band, Travelers) have one entry per instrument and nearby players join them in time.
