PeakCats 🐾
Adopt super cute pet cats in PEAK. They wander around, nap, groom, climb after you, meow and purr, have their own status bar just like yours, and can be picked up, cuddled, petted and thrown. Works in multiplayer.
Features
- 8 cats: Snowball (white), Shadow (black), Marmalade (ginger tabby), Patches (calico), Tux (tuxedo), Smokey (grey), Sapphire (siamese) and a fluffy Tabby Kitten. Each has its own personality (lazy or playful) and voice.
- Alive: walk, trot, sit, groom, stretch, loaf, curl up and sleep (with slow breathing), bat at things, stick with their owner whenever they're awake (sleeping cats stay put), slow-blink at you, ear twitches and tail swishes. Eyes and pupils really move.
- Physics: cats are real rigidbodies. They bump into you and into things, always land on their feet, climb walls with stamina, hop up ledges and jump down after you.
- Status bar: stamina, injury, hunger, cold, heat, poison, drowsiness and weight, shown above each cat like the player bar. Cats feel the same things you do (night cold, fog, blizzards, desert sun, lava, falls) and pass out if the bar fills. Campfires and cuddles warm them up, naps heal them, and you can feed them (or they'll eat food you drop). Food does exactly what it does for you: the same hunger, and the same effects (a Big Lollipop means a sugar rush, then a drowsy crash; energy drinks make them zoomy). Bad berries poison cats too, and cats refuse mushrooms, cactus, mandrake, aloe and scorchberries (configurable).
- Carry things: give a cat any item and it wears it on its back. The item's real weight counts on the cat's status bar.
- Hold them: pick a cat up and it sits in your arms (the hand slot, not your hotbar). Switching slots puts it down, or you can stash it in a backpack. It weighs nothing and keeps its state, so a sleeping cat stays asleep in your arms. Hold still for 30 s and an awake cat falls asleep on you. A sleeping cat in your arms slowly calms you (a tiny stamina bonus).
- Petting: hold left click for about half a second. Your hand strokes its back, it purrs and kneads, and hearts float up.
- Kittens grow up: new cats start as kittens (bigger eyes, squeakier meows, extra playful) and grow 30% bigger into adults over 30 minutes of play together (configurable). Petting and feeding help them grow. You can also adopt a grown cat directly.
- Collars: pick a collar for your cat when adopting: red, pink, sky blue, mint, sunshine, lavender, black or rainbow, each with a little gold bell.
- Campfire naps: when you rest at a lit campfire, cats wander over, curl up by the flames and doze off, purring.
- Shoulder riding: pop your cat onto your shoulders (on top of your backpack if you wear one). It loafs, purrs and naps there while your hands stay free to climb, and it adds a little weight to your bar. It hops off by itself if you pass out.
- Rope and vine climbing: cats scramble up ropes and vines right behind you, following your exact path, and hop off where you got off.
- Eats like a scout: food gives a cat exactly what it gives you: the same hunger, and the same effects. A Big Lollipop means a sugar rush (infinite stamina, gold bar), then a drowsy crash. Energy drinks make them zoomy, and bonus stamina shows as a yellow strip. Cats won't touch mushrooms, cactus, mandrake, aloe or scorchberries (configurable).
- Survives the whole mountain: cats keep well clear of lava, run when the Kiln's lava rises, hate water (they wait at the edge and groom themselves dry), and dig their claws in when the wind howls.
- Comes along: cats you have in the airport lobby come with you to the island (and back after the run) - they hop in right next to you once you wake up on the beach.
- Never lost: if a cat falls off the world or gets left behind when the mountain moves on, it lands on its feet next to you.
- Loyal: if you pass out, your cat rushes to your side and waits, worried, until you're back up.
- Ghost cats: if you fully die, your cat's spirit goes with you. Its little skeleton stays where it stood, and a see-through ghost cat rises out and slowly flies up the mountain to the scout statue, then floats on the statue's shoulder, waiting. Ghosts can't be hurt. When you're revived, your cat comes back to life right beside you.
- Summit Kitty!: reach the Peak with your cat and you'll both be celebrated, and your cat's name goes on the end screen.
- Cat customization: 30 things to dress your cats in (eye colours, hats, shades, capes, wings, a mini backpack, trails and special pelts)
- Warrior markings (free for every cat): paint up to 4 layers on any coat - Thunderstripes, River Ripples, Sky Dapples, Shadow Mask, Windflecks, StarClan Paws, Moonstone Blaze, Frost Chest, Flame Tips, Tortoiseshell, Clanstripe, Leader's Crescent, Battle Scars and the Dark Forest Saddle - each with its own colour, shade, size, strength, softness and variation (or roll a random Warrior look)
- Looks are remembered: adopt a cat with the same name + breed again later (any lobby) and it comes back wearing the same accessories and markings across 9 slots. Take 1 of your cats to the Peak to unlock 10, 2 cats for 20, and 3 cats for all 30. The last 10 are Warrior-cat themed: StarClan pelt, battle scars, torn ear, clan war paint, moonstone eyes, medicine-cat herbs, a claw necklace, flame and shadow pelts, and a leader's nine lives.
- [Warrior] prefix: bring 3 cats to the Peak together and everyone with PeakCats sees [Warrior] before your name, in the colour you pick.
- Your unlocks follow you: they're saved in your mod profile, tied to your Steam account. r2modman's Export profile as code takes them to another PC.
- Adopt panel (C): pick a cat, give it a name (up to 18 characters) and it hops straight into your arms.

Multiplayer
Everything syncs: spawning, AI mode, movement (the owner simulates, everyone else interpolates), sleep, name and coat, status bar, petting, sounds, pickup, drop and throw. Late joiners get every cat in its current state. Everyone in the lobby needs PeakCats to adopt cats. Players without it won't crash; they just can't see cats, so adopting is paused and you get a notice.
Config (BepInEx/config/com.attackstudioyt.peakcats.cfg)
Panel key, max cats per player (the host's value counts), volume, cat needs on/off, follow owner, status bar size and range, hold-pose tuning and debug logging.

CHANGELOG
Changelog
1.6.0
- CAT COMMANDS! Hold V (controller: hold D-pad left) for the command wheel, point at a command and let go:
- Come (runs to you - from anywhere), Follow, Stay, Sit, Nap, and Go there (sends your cat to the spot you're looking at)
- Look at one of your cats to command just that one, otherwise all your cats listen
- A cat told to Stay waits right where it is - perfect for tricky climbs - and never gets "rescued" away from its spot
- CATS HANG OUT TOGETHER: when cats meet they sniff noses, groom each other, play-fight and chase each other around
- Sleepy cats curl up next to a cat that's already asleep - cuddle piles at camp!
- Fixed: the shoulder-ride prompt showing as "LOC: ride on shoulders"
- Fixed: cats on raised floors (like the lobby's photo booth) thinking they were falling, then getting "rescued" into a trap under the floor - they now know any floor they're standing on, and rescues always land on your level
1.5.0
- WARRIOR MODE - one switch for everything Warrior Cats (cat panel > Settings, off by default). Tap the little arrow to turn each part on or off:
- Naming ceremonies: your cat's name grows up with it - Smokeykit > Smokeypaw > Smokeyheart - with a ceremony (chime, sparkles, "Smokeykit is now Smokeypaw!") at each step. Reach the Peak together to earn a leader's name: -star
- Ages in moons: "Smokeypaw (7 moons)" - apprentice at 6 moons, warrior at 12
- StarClan ghosts: ghost cats shimmer with stars and walk with StarClan while they wait at the statue
- Clan-born kits: newly adopted cats come with their own Warrior markings (and keep them)
- Clan speak: fresh-kill, Clanmates, StarClan - prompts and messages in Clan words
- YOUR CLAN: in Warrior Mode the adopt page is your own Clan - one lasting cat per breed, shown on its banner with its warrior name, rank and a live portrait wearing its real markings and accessories
- No naming or age picking - just pick your cat and summon it. It comes back exactly as you left it (name, age, markings, accessories, collar), in any lobby, and keeps growing up from game to game
- Rename it, set its age (kit / apprentice / warrior), reset its markings or start it over - all from the adopt page
- Your Clan is saved in its own file, separate from your normal cats' looks
- Your cat's real name is never changed - switch Warrior Mode off and everything goes back to normal
- Kittens grow up much faster from food: every meal is a real step up (about 8 meals from kit to warrior) - food is rare on the mountain!
1.4.0
- CATS COPY YOUR EMOTES! Wave and your cat waves back, dance and it dances with you - all your cats in sync
- Every emote has a cat version: dance, sit-up dance, wave, salute, clap, flex, thumbs up, cheer, punch, shrug, think, head-shake "no", sassy turn-away, panic zoomies, sad flop, sit, play dead - and a real cat BACKFLIP
- Your cats stop, face you and join in (with a little chirp or trill); cats in your arms or on your shoulders wave a paw
- Everyone sees it - no extra network traffic. Turn it off with Fun / CatsCopyEmotes in the config
1.3.1
- BUG FIXES
- Kittens actually grow up over time now (they only grew when you fed them)
- Cats that were ghosts when a run ended come back with you to the airport (they used to be lost)
- Cats coming along between the airport and the island retry if the host was busy, instead of vanishing
- Ghost cats keep their markings when they're revived
- Giving a cat an item can't lose it any more if someone picks the cat up at the same moment
- Taking a cat off your shoulders on a wall no longer teleports it back to where you put it on
- Several cats placed next to you at once (revive, rescue, catch-up) no longer land on the same spot and get flung
- Cats tucked in a backpack rest instead of getting hungry and cold
- The cat menu won't pop open while you're typing in chat or have another menu / the emote wheel open
- Players on an older PeakCats get a heads-up, and markings aren't sent to them (they'd silently fail)
- Less stutter: changing markings, name tags with [Warrior] prefixes and cat icons no longer make garbage every frame
- Controller players see [LT] in the feed / give prompts
- Hardened against modified clients (fake feeding, bad spawn positions)
1.3.0
- WARRIOR MARKINGS - free for every cat! Paint up to 4 layers on any coat (Customize > Markings)
- 14 Warrior patterns: Thunderstripes, River Ripples, Sky Dapples, Shadow Mask, Windflecks, StarClan Paws, Moonstone Blaze, Frost Chest, Flame Tips, Tortoiseshell, Clanstripe, Leader's Crescent, Battle Scars and the Dark Forest Saddle
- Every layer is fully tweakable: 16 Clan colours, shade, size, strength, softness and variation - or roll a Random Warrior look
- Markings wrap properly round the body, legs, tail and face on every breed, and sit on top of special pelts
- NEW CUSTOMIZE MENU: a live 3D preview of your cat you can drag (or right-stick) to spin, next to a slim list of slots - try on locked items to see them before you unlock them
- Accessories / Markings tabs (Y on controller to switch)
- Everyone sees your cat's markings, and they come along from the airport to the island
- Your cats remember their looks: dress up Smokey, and next time you adopt Smokey (same name + breed) in any lobby, its accessories and markings come back
- Fixed: menus causing little stutters while open
1.2.1
- BUG FIXES
- Ghost cats now leave their skeleton behind (bone-white, lying on its side where your cat was)
- Shoulder riding: your cat sits ON your shoulder - face forward, back half hanging down behind, tail swishing (it used to sit inside you)
- Cats hop off the top of ropes and vines instead of hanging there
- Your cats come with you from the airport to the island (and back) - they turn up next to you once you wake up on the beach
- Closed eyes no longer show the pupils through the lids
- Cats keep their owner if you disconnect and rejoin
- Fixed an item dupe/loss when holding a cat, and meals / food effects being lost on pickup
- Food: antidote stops poison, hot/cold cancel out, invincibility works like it does for scouts, used-up food can't be fed, you only feed the cat you're looking at
- Climbing: no more flip-flopping on slopes, cats never get stuck climbing, and they let go of ropes that lead nowhere
- Cats won't nap next to lava, ignore food they can't reach, and wake properly at dawn
- Look-at highlight covers the whole cat (collar, cosmetics, carried item)
- Lots of multiplayer hardening (spawn/give/destroy requests checked by the host)
1.2.0

- Shoulder riding: put your cat on your shoulders (right-click / LT while holding it, or X) and climb hands-free; X or hold Tab / D-pad down to take it off

- Survives the whole mountain: keeps clear of lava (and runs when the Kiln's lava rises), hates water, digs its claws in against the wind
- Never lost: cats that fall off the world or get left behind land on their feet next to you
- Summit Kitty! Reach the Peak with your cat for a celebration, and your cat's name goes on the end screen
- 30 cat customizations (Customize page in the cat panel): 10 per cat you've taken to the Peak together - the last 10 are Warrior-cat themed
- [Warrior] name prefix in your own colour for taking 3 cats to the Peak; your unlocks are tied to your Steam account and travel with r2modman's profile export
- Cats now sleep at night and stay awake in the day
1.1.0

- Campfire naps: rest at a lit campfire and your cats curl up by the flames and doze off, purring

- Cats refuse mushrooms, cactus, mandrake, aloe and scorchberries (configurable) - give those to them to carry instead
- Status fixes: food drowsiness no longer gets wiped, heat/poison/drowsy wear off at the same rates as yours, hunger follows the ascent's hunger rate
1.0.2
- Removed leftover developer debug hotkeys and their network messages (they could have been misused to hurt other players' cats).
1.0.1
- Removed a development-only Mac/Wine input helper that was accidentally included. PeakCats uses only Unity and PEAK's own systems (no native code).
