README

FlagSurvival

A PEAK survival mode I made — sharing it here with everyone.

Spent over a week thinking through this and ran hundreds of test rounds. Hope you have fun, and feedback is always welcome! Multiplayer testing on Discord has been mostly positive (could be biased — they're friends). The PvP balance turned out better than expected, and the dopamine hits hard when scores keep flipping back and forth between players of similar skill. A flag-less, pure speed-race PvP mode is also planned for a future update.

No separate config file needed — just press the [~] key (above TAB) to open the in-game settings menu. The default language is English since most players will be from outside Korea, but Korean is available too. Difficulty is freely adjustable.

Core rules

A curse builds up over time and slowly drains your HP. Flags spawn randomly across the map, and eating a flag restores HP. The lower your HP, the more it heals — so you get that dramatic "I just barely survived!" feeling.

There are two main modes, plus an optional speed variant:

  • Casual — flags are scarce, HP drains slowly
  • Dynamic — flags spawn often, HP drains fast and recovers fast — a more nail-biting mode
  • Speed Match (optional) — a lighter, more casual variant. Movement speed and climbing speed multipliers are adjusted for every player, so the run feels breezier

Also, like in Crazy Racing Kart Rider, newer players get a dynamic difficulty buff: the further behind 1st place you are, the more your movement speed and climbing become assisted. As a side benefit, this naturally prevents the leader from snowballing all the points.

PvP

Exactly what it sounds like — no reviving anyone, no looking back, just running. (No Scoutmaster appears.)

  • 1 point per flag, with score adjustments for players behind based on the gap to 1st
  • Players who reach a campfire first get bonus points on a sliding scale
  • 3 lives per stage, shown as heart icons in the top-left HUD. Players who burn through all 3 are scored among themselves by how high they climbed
  • After respawning, you get 8 seconds of invincibility
  • 1st place can claim the Scout statue
  • All survivors must gather at a campfire and light it together to revive fallen players (using up all 3 lives means missing out on flag points — big loss)
  • The PvP ending cutscene is different in multiplayer. Multiplayer is strongly recommended!

Coop

A cooperative mode where you collect flags as a team to earn 3 stars based on the team's total flag count. Get fewer than 3 stars, and the Scoutmaster will punish whoever collected the fewest flags. Because of the cooperative nature, the 3-revive limit doesn't apply.

Performance note

There's a noticeable hitch the moment the map loads — still being optimized. If your machine struggles, I recommend lowering flag visibility distance and effect quality in the Graphics tab.

What's new in this update

  • PvP — 8-second respawn invincibility. No more getting instantly killed again the moment you come back.
  • PvP — heart-icon life counter added to the top-left HUD so you can see how many lives you have left at a glance.
  • Coop — Scoutmaster fear effect — the darkness intensity has been softened (it was a bit too punishing before).
  • Performance — shortened light range to reduce frame drops.
  • Performance — reduced the frame drops that happened when entering a game.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.1.2

  • Leaderboard now supports up to 8 players.
  • Added a distance (m) column to the PvP leaderboard.

0.1.1

  • PvP: Players are now granted 8 seconds of invincibility after respawning.
  • PvP: Your remaining lives are now shown as heart icons in the top-left HUD.
  • Coop: reduced the darkness intensity of the Scoutmaster's fear effect.
  • Performance: shortened light range to reduce frame drops.

0.1.0

  • Fixed a bug where the HUD language was showing as Korean when it should have been English.
  • Fixed a bug where the Strange Gem was not syncing in multiplayer.

0.0.9

  • Added a Tropics tree-top flag spawn block — flags no longer spawn on top of trees in the Tropics biome. The total flag count in that area may drop noticeably, so adjust the flag spawn multiplier in the Flag tab if needed.
  • Raised max party size to 8 players.
  • Increased Coop difficulty — earning 3 stars was too easy before.
  • [New Item] Strange Gem. After clearing Coop with 3 stars and lighting the campfire, a Strange Gem spawns at the campfire. Toggle the 10-second aura on/off to grant bonus movement speed, climbing speed, and stamina to everyone within 30 meters.
  • Updated README with the latest mode/system descriptions.
  • Note: two days of work were lost during development and recovered as best as possible — a few subtle bugs may have slipped in.

0.0.8

  • Updated README.

0.0.7

  • Fixed a bug where players could not be revived at campfires under certain conditions.
  • Fixed a bug where client respawn coordinates were misaligned.

0.0.6

  • Removed PEAKLib_Core, PEAKLib_UI, and ModConfig from required dependencies. Only BepInExPack_PEAK remains.

0.0.5

  • Added a hint in the subtitle that the ` (backtick) key opens the settings panel.

0.0.4

  • Updated author name romanization from Kkaeng to Ggaeng in README and LICENSE.

0.0.3

  • Default HUD language is now English (was Korean). Players can still switch to Korean from the in-game settings panel.

0.0.2 — Initial release

Core

  • Curse/HP management survival mechanic — curse accumulates over time and ends the run if it maxes out.
  • Auto-spawning flags as the primary curse-recovery item, with base / bonus / minimum recovery tiers.
  • Campfire detection radius + entry-recovery on top of vanilla campfire mechanics.

Multiplayer

  • Coop — gather flags together to survive; failing the goal triggers a special outcome.
  • PvP — score competition based on flag count and campfire arrival ranking; final summit decides the winner.

PvP cutscene staging

  • Auto-teleport to a designated coordinate during next-phase transition cutscenes for seamless camera flow.
  • Scoutmaster spawn blocked during PvP runs.
