This mod requires the following mods to function
BepInEx-BepInExPack_PEAK
BepInEx pack for PEAK. Preconfigured and ready to use.
Preferred version: 5.4.75301README
⚠️ Before you install: turn off these mods
Sakura Sanctuary doesn't work together with other mods that change the map. If any of these are switched on, Sakura Sanctuary quietly turns itself off and you get the normal jungle:
- PLL Library
- All Biomes / All Biomes In One
- True Final Ascent
- Terrain Randomiser
- Terrain Customiser
- Peak Workshop
- Lost City
PLL Library is often installed automatically along with other mods and stays on after you disable the mod that brought it. Check your installed mods for it. In r2modman: Installed → click the mod → Disable, then restart the game.
⚠️ Work in progress
This mod is still being built, and bugs can happen. Every island builds its own mountain; each one is checked to have a way up, but we can't play them all.
Found a bug or have a problem? Write to Eliasmvw on Discord. A screenshot and your BepInEx/LogOutput.log help a lot.
Sakura Sanctuary
The second biome becomes a mountain in full cherry blossom. Instead of the Tropics or the Roots you climb weathered granite through sakura groves, past shrines, jizo and stone lanterns, over rope bridges and up pilgrim chains, to a temple hidden in the clouds at the top. There's no marked path: a pagoda on a rock spur near the summit shows you the direction now and then, the rest is up to you. Look around, find your own way, and don't get lost.
Every island gets its own mountain, and everyone on that island gets the same one.
Good to know
- Petal storms. When the wind chimes start ringing wildly, a storm of blossoms is coming. Out in the open it covers your face, makes you drowsy and pushes you hard (near an edge, that's dangerous): hide behind a tree or a rock, or hold an open umbrella. Listen for a crack: branches break off the cherries and fall. A friend can brush the petals off your face (interact).
- Mind your step. Wet, dark moss at the edge of a drop is slippery. Walk onto it and you go over the edge. Crouch across.
- Pilgrim chains hang down some cliffs. Grab one (interact) and climb it hand over hand like a vine; at the top keep pushing forward to pull yourself over the edge. Climbing the rock right beside a chain also costs far less stamina.
- Hanging lianas span a few gaps between the ways: grab on and climb across.
- Drifting logs in the plunge pool carry you along when you stand on them.
- Shrine stalls hand out real items: a paper umbrella (opens like the parasol, floats you down; it is paper, so it wears out after about 80 seconds open), hanami dango, matcha, a lucky charm (the next hard fall does you no harm), a firefly cage for the night. The suitcases on the mountain hold them too now and then.
- Yaki dango. Hold your hanami dango over a campfire and it becomes grilled yaki dango with mitarashi glaze: more filling, more extra stamina. Don't leave it on too long.
- The tanuki trades whatever you hold for something else. He is a trickster.
- The daruma. Carry it up into the temple courtyard and see what happens.
- Yozakura. At night the lanterns glow, the old trees are lit and the fireflies come out.
- Not every plank bridge is as sturdy as it looks.
How to install
- Install r2modman or the Thunderstore Mod Manager and pick PEAK.
- Search for Sakura Sanctuary and click Install.
- Make sure none of the mods at the top of this page are switched on.
- Click Start modded.
Playing with friends
- Everyone needs Sakura Sanctuary, in the same version. A player without it would see the normal jungle. If someone is missing the mod or has a different version, a warning shows up for everyone.
- The host's settings count for everyone.
- F6 (host only) brings everyone to the beach campfire right before the sanctuary.
Settings
Change these in your mod manager (r2modman: Config editor → mirts.SakuraSanctuary). In multiplayer only the host's settings count.
- Turn the sanctuary off: General → Enabled
- How often it appears: General → SpawnChance (1 = on every island)
- Breaking bridges off: Gameplay → BridgeHazards
- Wind gusts off: Gameplay → WindHazards
- Fewer falling petals / lower detail: Visuals → SakuraPetalDensity, GraphicsQuality
- Smoother rendering of the blossom crowns (on by default; off only if you see graphics glitches): Visuals → DepthPriming
- Sounds: Audio → AmbientVolume
Each setting has a short explanation in the file.
Known issues
- On weaker graphics cards the frame rate can still dip when you look over the whole mountain at once.
- Loading the island takes a few seconds longer while the mountain is built.
- Playing with friends has been tested much less than playing alone.
Sakura Sanctuary is a fan-made mod. It isn't made or endorsed by the makers of PEAK. Textures based on CC0 assets from Poly Haven.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
⚠️ Work in progress: this mod is still being built and bugs can happen. Problems or bugs? Write to Eliasmvw on Discord (a screenshot and your
BepInEx/LogOutput.loghelp a lot).
0.6.1
- Small fixes and clean-up.
0.6.0 - Arigatou (The Big Feedback Update)
💮 Thank you. Sakura Sanctuary passed 2,000+ downloads - thank you to everyone who climbed it, streamed it, sent screenshots and wrote such detailed reports. This update is built almost entirely from your feedback. It will most likely be the last big update: I'm moving on to another project (not PEAK related). If a game-breaking bug turns up I'll still try to fix it - write to Eliasmvw on Discord.
The mountain is built differently in this version: everyone in the lobby needs 0.6.0.
Sound
- All of the mod's sounds now follow the game's volume settings (Master and SFX). Before, they bypassed the sliders completely - that's why they could be "brutally loud" and couldn't be turned down. On top of that, every sound of the mod now plays at less than half its old volume (-55 %).
- The temple bell rope no longer screeches. It rings the game's own little bells, and only once every 1.5 s however often you pull.
- No more synthetic bird calls. The wind chimes, the temple bell and the furin are much quieter and rarer.
- The temple cats purr softly - the purr sounded like a helicopter.
- The wind rises only on the open climb and dies away before the temple, and it's gone inside the grotto. The petal storm and the waterfalls use the game's own recorded wind and water.
- Fewer sounds at once: the mod plays at most a few sounds in the same moment.
- The replaced biome's climb music (Tropics/Roots or Alpine/Mesa) is no longer played over the sanctuary (Audio → KeepVanillaMusic turns it back on).
- The next biome's snow and the jungle's rain no longer show up over the sanctuary.
The mountain
- Closed sides. A few metres outside the slot's walls a sheer granite wall rises 40-55 m along the whole mountain, with an invisible barrier on its crest: no more getting out of bounds at the sides, and the ground no longer ends in plain sight before the fog.
- The biome starts with a drop. Past the shore the ground runs on as a rim and then breaks off in a ~7 m drop (no fall damage) into the first hollow - you drop in, you don't walk in.
- Log jumping opens the biome: right after the drop, logs drift across the first pool - hop across them like in the big log river further up.
- More climbing. The rock steps are taller: fewer little hops, more real climbs of 5-7 m.
- Rocks are smoother to climb. The big cliff rocks had a jagged, high-detail collision that twisted the character when scaling them. They now have smooth climbing surfaces (same look).
- No more rocks inside bridges. Rocks, boulders and trunks are kept out of every bridge's span, and bumps of the mountain under a deck are cut back.
- Water fixed. You no longer walk on dry land as if it were water next to the river.
- Waterfalls push you off like in the Tropics (only where the main way doesn't pass through the water).
- Waterfalls are joined to their water. They start at the real edge of the rock and fall into their pool - water now runs up to the lip and lies under the foot (before, the curtains hung free with ground showing above and below). No more black triangles flickering on the falls, no sides bent back like wings, no flat shelf of water between two steps of a cascade.
- No more floating strips of ground near the start after the beach is left behind.
- Rock, wood and bark textures are a little softer, closer to PEAK's painted look (Visuals → PeakStyleTextures turns it off).
Things worth the detour
- Reward suitcases on the pagodas. Climb a five-storey pagoda to its top (~20 m up the roofs): an ancient suitcase waits on a little wooden stand on the roof beside the top balcony - one on the temple's pagoda, one on the lonely pagoda at the summit's edge.
- More suitcases beside the way, at rests along the climb.
- Cherries! Ripe sakuranbo lie under the great cherry trees: a sweet little snack (+12 % food, +10 % extra stamina).
- The amulet statue now stands where leaving the path pays off: in the grotto's great hall (or under a great o-zakura if the mountain has no grotto).
- The summit maze. The stage in front of the temple is now a little maze of white walls - with swinging logs, bamboo spikes that spring out of the floor and sleeping-dart tubes in the walls. Easy, but watch your timing. There is no way round it: white walls close off the summit's edge on both sides of the stage, and invisible walls stop you from climbing past.
- Clear way on. The temple courtyard's back corners are open now: walk straight through to the stairs with the small torii that lead down to the next biome (no more climbing around the outside).
- The campfire at the top is always set on the courtyard (on some islands, e.g. with Mesa next, it sat under the paving).
The Grotto
- The Grotto is a way up now. Over the tallest glowing mushroom of the mushroom forest a chimney rises through the rock - up to 45 m - and comes out on the mountain's surface high above the entrance: a shortcut for those who dare.
- The giant mushrooms bounce you like the Roots' bounce shrooms (a little gentler, the cave has a ceiling). Glowing shelf mushrooms on the chimney's walls carry you up from one to the next - bring a light, it's dark between them.
- The title card now simply says THE GROTTO.
- Easter egg: somewhere behind the waterfall, a holy relic stands in a glass case under a spotlight. It smells (you'll see the stink lines - and the flies). Don't eat it.
- Taking the relic wakes the mountain: the moment it leaves its case the grotto starts to cave in - 15 seconds of growing rumble, shaking, dust and falling pebbles (a countdown at the top of the screen), then the roof comes down: boulders fill the mouth and choke the chimney - the grotto stays shut for good. Whoever is still inside is buried for a moment and dug out in front of the rubble (knocked down, some injury - never killed, never trapped). Run - or take the chimney. The rumble is soft and goes through the game's SFX volume.
Yokai
- The night ghosts are nastier: they wake from farther away, chase faster and longer, and the cold sleepiness creeps up while one clings to you (+10 % drowsiness per catch, up to four times). Bigger groups meet more of them (8, +2 per extra scout, up to 16).
- New: the nopperabo. A faceless yokai in a faded kimono. It hunts scouts who stray far from the group: it appears behind you and glides after you - slowly while you look at it, fast when you don't. The closer it gets, the colder and darker your view. If it reaches you, it puts you to sleep (drowsiness bar full) for a few seconds. Rejoin your friends, hold a lit lantern or a squeezed neko plush, or reach a temple cat to drive it off.
Items and weather
- The Omamori and the waraji now work after the sanctuary too - they stopped working once you left the biome. The waraji only wear out in the sanctuary now.
- The kokeshi doll glows: a warm light and a pink column of light above her, so your friends can find you by sight too.
- Petal storms come more often (about every 35-75 s) but blow shorter.
0.5.1 - Grotto fixes
The mountain is built a little differently: everyone in the lobby needs 0.5.1.
- No more holes in the grotto. In places the rock between the cave and the outside was too thin - you could see out, or the mountain's ground showed through cracks in the ceiling. The rock is now at least 1.5 m thick everywhere.
- No more things hanging in the air over the grotto. Big rocks, root curtains and trees of the mountain that stood close to the grotto reached into its rock (spikes and vines floating in the air over the outcrop). They are now kept clear of it.
- No more getting stuck. The small stalagmites by the cave walls could trap you between them and the wall. They are smaller now and you walk through them.
0.5.0 - The Moss Grotto Update (Koke no Iwaya)
The mountain is built differently in this version: everyone in the lobby needs 0.5.0.
- New: the Moss Grotto. Almost every sanctuary mountain now hides a cave in its rock, a short detour from the main way (12-30 m off it, low to mid height), marked by a small torii and two stone lanterns. Stepping stones lead to its mouth, which is framed by moss, ivy and wisteria, with a sacred straw rope (shimenawa) and two glowing red paper lanterns across the arch. Inside:
- The great hall: the heart of a cave of five chambers - a cavern 24 m across and 14 m high, lit by what grows in it - glowing hikari-goke moss, glowing mushrooms, curtains of wisteria swaying in the draught, ferns, fireflies drifting over the moss. Giant red mushrooms, stalactites and stalagmites, drops falling from the ceiling. Golden shafts of sunlight fall through a crack high above, with cherry petals drifting down them.
- The spring: at the back of the hall a waterfall pours into a glowing pool where koi swim. Kneel and drink (2 s) for +8 % extra stamina, once per scout. Beside it stands a little cave shrine with its own torii, stone lanterns and candles - pull the rope and its bell rings.
- Tainai-meguri, the dark walk: a pitch-black side tunnel with only a few faint moss crumbs to follow. It ends in the root chamber, where the roots of the old cherry above grow down through the ceiling - and a Hikari-goke Jar waits.
- The upper gallery: a 4.8 m climb up the old wisteria trunks to a ledge with a snack waiting.
- The mushroom forest: a side chamber full of giant mushrooms glowing sea-green, glowing spores drifting up from their caps.
- The lantern lake: a passage leads down to a dark underground lake. Floating paper lanterns drift on the water around an island; stepping stones lead across to a stone altar - and on it lies the grotto's treasure.
- The treasure: Kami no Shizuku. A lacquered gourd of the kami's own spring water, found only on the lantern lake's altar (one per grotto). One drink: your stamina is full again, +40 % extra stamina, and it washes away injury, poison, cold, heat, drowsiness, spores, thorns and webs. Save it for the moment it counts.
- The red mushroom may sneeze. In some grottos (35 %) one of the big red mushrooms trembles when you come close and puffs a cloud of sleepy spores: 7 s at 85 % speed. Nothing worse.
- Tsuchinoko! In some grottos (30 %) the shy folklore snake - short, fat and curious - sits in the upper chamber. It slithers off when you storm in, but if you crouch and sneak up, you can catch it for a small reward.
- New item: Hikari-goke Jar. A small jar of glowing moss: a soft green-gold light for 75 s (3.5 m).
- New item: Shiitake. Found by the grotto walls: a little food (hunger -10 %) and +5 % extra stamina.
- Walk into the hall for the first time and the game's title card greets you: THE MOSS GROTTO. Inside you hear the game's own cave and waterfall sounds.
- Shelter from the storm. The grotto is a real shelter: petal storms and wind gusts can't reach you inside, and their petals don't follow you in.
- Multiplayer: the host decides the spores and the tsuchinoko, everyone sees the same thing, and players who join late get the current state.
0.4.0 - Final Ascent
The mountain is built differently in this version: everyone in the lobby needs 0.4.0.
- No more easy way up the sides. Out at the edges, past the start, the mountain rose as smooth slopes just over walking steepness - you could walk out to the side and climb up there much more easily than on the main way. The outer flanks are now tiers of sheer granite cliffs (about 10 m each, cherries and bamboo on the ledges): you can still climb them, but every face is taller than any climb on the way. The middle of the mountain and the way itself are unchanged.
- Sakura Sanctuary works together with True Final Ascent (TFA 2.10 or newer, by CptPICHU). In FINAL ASCENT the host can pick "Sakura Sanctuary" for the Tropics or the Roots stage in TFA's map setup: the cherry-blossom mountain is then built between TFA's campfires, with everything it has (petal storms, obake, temple cats, items, the temple at the top).
- Normal runs stay as before: the sanctuary replaces the second biome.
- In FINAL ASCENT, Sakura only appears where the host picked it. In TFA's Apocalypse mode TFA's weather runs there instead of our petal storms and gusts.
- Only the host measures the rock around the campfires, and every player builds from the host's numbers, so everyone climbs the same mountain.
- With an older True Final Ascent (without the biome API) Sakura still switches itself off, as before.
- Thanks to CptPICHU for the biome API and the test build!
0.3.3 - Neko-dera (Temple Cats)
- New: temple cats. Four cats live in the sanctuary - one in the temple courtyard, the others beside shrines, stalls and jizo along the way: a calico and a white one with red shrine bibs and little bells, a black one with golden eyes and a red tabby. They live their own lives: sitting and watching you when you come near (they turn their heads after you), washing, swaying their tails, or curled up asleep.
- Pet them (E): they purr and meow, and the first time you pet each cat you get a little stamina back (+10 %, once per cat and scout).
- Storm past one or land right beside it and it startles and hops aside.
- The obake are afraid of cats: at night no ghost comes within 8 m of a temple cat - a safe spot to catch your breath, and a cross ghost gives up the chase when you reach one.
- New mod icon (without text).
0.3.2 - New Look
- New mod icon. Nothing else changed in the game.
0.3.1 - Kokeshi
- New item: Kokeshi Echo Doll. Lost your friends on the mountain? Set the little wooden doll down at your feet: for 45 seconds she sings a short music-box tune every 6 seconds, loud enough to be heard about 35 m away, so your friends can follow the sound to you. She shows no way and protects from nothing - then she bows out in a puff of petals.
- New item: Sakura Resin. A little pot of sticky cherry resin with two dabs. Rubbed on your hands it holds you against the wind for 20 seconds: the sanctuary's gusts and the petal storm push you 35 % less and loosen your grip less - but sticky hands climb 10 % slower.
- New: Tsukiyotake. A brown mushroom that looks just as tasty as the good ones - and grows among them in the sanctuary. It is the poisonous "moon-night mushroom": eat it and a few seconds later the poison creeps in. By day you can't tell it apart; at night its gills glow faintly green.
- The new items turn up in the sanctuary's suitcases and from the tanuki (who is happy to hand you a tsukiyotake).
0.3.0 - Obake no Yoru (Night of the Ghosts)
The mountain is built differently in this version: everyone in the lobby needs 0.3.0.
- New night event: the obake. When night falls on the sanctuary, little white ghosts float beside the ways - humming, eyes happily shut, glowing softly in the dark. Get closer than 4 m and one wakes up cross: frowning brows, pink cheeks, an open mouth with two tiny fangs, its glow turning pink. It chases you (a little slower than a sprint) and every time it catches you it takes a bite of your stamina and makes you a bit drowsy - at most three times, then it gives up and floats home.
- Getting rid of them is quick: press E on a cross ghost to shoo it away (anyone near can), hold a lit lantern or the firefly cage - they keep away from the light - or squeeze the neko plush: ghosts are afraid of cats.
- Everyone in the lobby sees the same ghosts in the same places.
- New food (found in the sanctuary's suitcases and from the tanuki), each with its own job and none stronger than the game's airline food:
- Onigiri - a rice ball with nori and an umeboshi: the filling one.
- Taiyaki - a fish-shaped waffle, still warm: a snack that also warms you up.
- Sakura Mochi - pink rice cake in a cherry leaf: a sweet pick-me-up against drowsiness.
- New item: Waraji (straw sandals). Carry them anywhere in your inventory and the wet slippery moss can't make you fall. They wear out: each slip they save uses a quarter of them, and walking wears them down too (about ten minutes on foot). The wear shows as the item's bar.
- Fixed: you could walk up beside the climb. Outside the main path the mountain's slopes were gentle enough to simply walk up - on the test islands about half of the height without a single climb, and at the sides almost to the top (thanks again, Bruce Cucumber, and everyone who reported it). The whole mountain now has rock steps like the main ridge, the forest's edges and the outer flanks are cut by deep trenches with sheer walls, and far beyond the walls the ground falls away into the cloud gorge. Measured on 20 islands: on foot you now get about 7% of the way up (before: about half).
- Fixed: the matcha's extra stamina never worked (it now gives it when you finish drinking).
- The cloud band under the summit is lighter: fewer, thinner clouds, so the mountain below shows through instead of a flat pink sheet.
0.2.5 - Field Report
Thanks to Bruce Cucumber and friends for a detailed play report - most of this update comes from it!
- Fixed: no spare backpack at the top campfire. The game puts one next to every campfire, but at the sanctuary's summit it ended up buried inside the temple courtyard. It now stands on the courtyard beside the fire.
- Fixed: the grilled yaki dango fell to the ground at the campfire. It now lands back in your hand.
- Fixed: the Omamori charm offered "use on a scout" and then did nothing. It is a pocket charm: just carry it, and your next hard fall does no harm (then it is used up).
- The tanuki trades once with every scout (before: twice for the whole group, so the first two players got all the trades).
- Petals in your face start in the middle of your view and spread outwards, so a petal storm is a real nuisance until someone brushes them off.
- Waterfall cascades line up: where one fall pours onto the next lip, the water now arcs out and lands on that lip (it dropped straight down and ended beside the next curtain).
0.2.4 - Neko
- New item: the Neko Plush. A soft little calico cat with a red collar, a gold bell and a cherry blossom at her ear, one paw raised like a lucky cat. Hold the use button to give her a squeeze: she squishes, squeaks and meows, and everyone near you hears it (look up for a higher meow). Found in the sanctuary's suitcases.
- Her meow is a real cat: recorded by a friend with his own cat. Thank you!
0.2.3 - Clear Water
- Fixed: water hanging in the air. Streams and pools could stick out as a flat plate over a cleft or past a rock edge (with square, stair-stepped corners). The water now ends where the rock ends, and never lies over the beach's sand or the game's own rock.
- Waterfalls look like falling water, white and foamy, instead of a bent pane of clear glass.
- Fixed: bushes, ferns, statues and some trees hovered up to 3 m in the air at the edges of rock steps (or sank into them). Everything now stands on the ground you see.
- Boulders and river stones are warm granite with a soft moss top (they looked like black rocks with a green glass lid).
- The wet slippery moss shows its green cushions with a small puddle (it looked like a dark hole in the petals).
- A few rocks far out on the outer slopes are gone.
- New look for the tanuki: rounder and cuter - big shiny eyes, his tanuki mask, rosy cheeks, a bushy tail, the magic leaf on his head and a little sake bottle in his paws.
- New look for the takenoko spirits: a soft, plump bamboo shoot wrapped in smooth sheath leaves like a little cloak, with fresh green sprouts on top.
- Known: some stream banks still have small stepped edges; smoothing them is planned.
0.2.2 - Smooth Climb
- Much smoother, especially when you look up the mountain. Looking up at the summit used to cost up to 40% of the frame rate: the blossom crowns of the whole mountain face lie behind each other, and the graphics card coloured every hidden layer of petals. Inside the sakura biome it now does a quick depth pass first and colours each pixel only once. Same picture, nothing removed.
- Looking up at the summit (same island, same spots): 52 -> 81, 59 -> 86, 62 -> 89, 70 -> 105 FPS.
- On the way (6 fixed spots): about +22% on average (86 -> 105 FPS), the beach view 61 -> 84 FPS.
- Only inside the sakura biome; the game's other biomes are drawn exactly as before. Can be switched off in the config (Visuals -> DepthPriming) if your graphics card shows glitches.
0.2.1 - Hotfix
- Fixed: no more constant ringing. On lantern-festival islands a wind chime rang every few seconds, everywhere - even on the beach. The festival chimes now only ring inside the sakura biome, rarely and softly, and the temple bell only carries across the sanctuary.
- Fixed: a hidden frame-rate drain. Some petal effects (petal rafts on the pools, petals drifting down the streams, the spirit lights, the storm haze) made the game write an error every single frame (over a million lines per session). Smoother frame rate in and around the sanctuary.
- Good to know: the start island is not changed by this mod. Some islands simply have a dark volcanic beach full of sea urchins - that is the normal game. Sakura Sanctuary replaces the second biome, after the first campfire.
0.2.0 - "Hanayama" (Flower Mountain)
Every island's mountain is built new in this version: everyone in the lobby needs 0.2.0.
- A real mountain instead of a field of towers ("Terrain 2.0"):
- Above the log pool the sanctuary is now one connected mountain made of five big rock masses (the route's ridge, a counter-massif, two side ridges and the summit massif), cut by a river valley with waterfalls, a deep cloud gorge and erosion gullies, with a few tall rock needles in the hanging gardens.
- The way up follows a long ridge with rock bands to climb, short steps with flat treads where you can stand and catch your breath.
- New rock: six new rock models (massive blocks, fractured cliffs, overhangs, buttresses), placed by the kind of rock (fractured in the gorge, heavy masses on the massif faces). Wet rock beside the waterfalls and streaks of moss on the cliffs.
- Cherry groves on the massifs, many leaning out over the rock bands (about twice as many cherries on the upper mountain).
- A second pagoda on a rock spur at the summit's front edge: the temple is now something you can see and climb towards from about half of the way up (before it was hidden behind the summit). The cloud bank sits lower and no longer hides the whole summit.
- Fewer emergency ledges: the mountain needs about 13x fewer patch-up ledges than 0.1.2, and the route almost never has to be rebuilt while the island loads (that could make loading much slower).
- New: falling branches in petal storms. A crack, and a cherry branch drops near you: another reason to take shelter.
- The biome title is now simply "SAKURA", one word like the game's own biomes.
- Fixed: sakura items could not be picked up ("E" did nothing) when another item mod was installed. They now work together with other item mods.
- Fixed: water looked broken in streams and pools:
- Streams used the sea water and showed as a white, milky plate; they use the clear pond water now.
- Deep stream pools showed square dry holes in the water.
- The water's edge no longer sinks under the ground on flat banks.
- Waterfalls are visible again (they were almost invisible) and their foot dips into the pool.
- Fixed: flickering wooden boards on the cliff galleries.
- Fixed: rocks on the cliffs could stick out into the way you climb; they now keep off the route.
- Fixed: some pilgrim chains did not hang when the cliff edge was a little further out than planned.
- Smaller download: the mod is about 54 MB instead of 141 MB (same textures and models, just packed better).
0.1.2 - "Haru no Kaze" (Spring Wind)
- Runs much better, looks the same (measured on the same three islands as 0.1.1):
- About +21 to +25% FPS on average (79 -> 96, 67 -> 82, 70 -> 88 FPS), the slowest spots up to +35% (shore 45 -> 60 FPS).
- Blossom cards no longer draw their empty, see-through corners (the biggest cost on screen): same picture, about 40% less work for the graphics card.
- Trees, rocks and bamboo hidden behind the mountain are not drawn (their shadows stay).
- Textures use about a quarter of the video memory (292 -> 73 MB): good news for older graphics cards.
- "Low" graphics quality: distant cherry crowns cast no shadows.
- The trees breathe: cherry trees and bamboo sway gently in the breeze and hard in a petal storm (only the nearby ones every frame, the far ones less often, the hidden ones not at all).
- Pilgrim chains can be grabbed and climbed like a vine; at the top you pull yourself over the edge.
- New: hanging lianas across some gaps between the ways.
- New: yaki dango. Hold a hanami dango over the campfire and it turns into grilled yaki dango (more filling). Cook it on and it burns.
- New: the mountain's suitcases sometimes hold sakura items (dango, matcha, umbrella, charm, firefly cage, yaki dango).
- The paper umbrella wears out: about 80 seconds open (faster in a storm), shown as a bar in the hotbar. Its hotbar icon shows it open when it is open.
- The petal storm pushes much harder, as hard as the game's blizzard, and makes your grip slip on walls. Shelter matters.
- Drifting logs carry you when you stand on them (you used to stay behind while the log moved away).
- The sky is pinker, and evenings stay pink instead of turning red.
- Fixed: flat white water plates hanging out over drops, and striped zig-zag water curtains under them.
- Fixed: little flowers in the grass showed as hard square tiles lying on the ground.
- Fixed: the map "vanishing" high up the mountain. A wind gust on a cliff face moved the whole mountain away with its sound (up to 400 m): the ground was suddenly gone or you seemed to be teleported. The mountain now stays put, and should anything ever move it again it is put straight back (and written to the log).
- Fixed: worn plank bridges jumped aside the first time they creaked under someone.
- Fixed: the fall rescue could teleport you while you stood under an overhanging rock.
- Quieter: waterfalls are much less loud, and taking an item from a stall no longer plays a chime.
0.1.1
- Performance update (same look up close, lighter in the distance):
- Rocks, bamboo groves and all cherry trees have more detail levels: full detail near you, simpler versions only where you can't tell the difference.
- The giant old cherries and weeping cherries no longer keep full detail far into the distance.
- Measured on the same island and views: about +19% FPS on average (66 -> 79 FPS), the slowest moments +18% (49 -> 58 FPS), up to 40% fewer triangles drawn.
- Fixed: a rope bridge could run straight through one of the red bridges, and some rope bridges crossed each other in the air. Overlapping rope bridges are now removed.
- The sanctuary now appears on every island and always as the second biome by default (the third-biome option is experimental).
- The mod's name is now shown as "Sakura Sanctuary" in the game and the mod list.
0.1.0
- First release: the cherry-blossom mountain as the second biome, temple summit, rope bridges, pilgrim chains, rock arches, petal storms, yozakura nights, shrine stalls with their own items (umbrella, dango, matcha, charm, firefly cage, daruma), the tanuki trader and the takenoko spirits.
