WhereIsThing 0.1.2
WhereIsThing places location labels on selected items, luggage, hazards, landmarks, and visible amulet fragments on statues in PEAK.
What's new in 0.1.2
- Added the
Player Placedpreset and optional player names for supported placed objects. - Improved rope, piton, mushroom, and other placed-object detection; excluded system ropes and fixed beach-bridge misidentification.
- Corrected item categories and added a maximum-distance slider to the scan settings.
- Reduced repeated scanning and label work, and refined the name, player-name, and distance rows.
- Improved UI sorting for TrueFinalAscent dropdown compatibility.
- Updated ModConfig menu and language support without changing saved settings or presets.
Installation
Install BepInEx for PEAK, then place WhereIsThing.dll in the game's BepInEx/plugins folder.
How to use
Press Alt+C to open the preset window. Choose a built-in or custom preset, then close the window and press C to scan.
The scan range controls in the lower part of the window support:
- Ground items
- Held items
- Items inside dropped backpacks
- Amulet fragments shown on statues
Each player controls their own scan range, display mode, and display duration. The host does not override these personal settings.
Presets and multiplayer
The four built-in presets are available even when the host does not have WhereIsThing installed:
- Survival Medical
- Achievement
- Ascent 8 amulets
- Player Placed
Hosts can create, edit, rename, publish, hide, and delete custom presets. Clients receive published presets when the sharing mode is set to Share: Published presets.
After a master-client switch, clients briefly keep the previous shared presets while waiting for the new host. They fall back to the built-in presets when compatible shared data is unavailable.
Configuration
The configuration file is BepInEx/config/com.wuyachiyu.WhereIsThing.cfg.
General.Enabled: enable or disable the mod. Default: enabled.General.ScanKey: scan hotkey. Default:C.General.WindowKey: window hotkey used with Alt. Default:C.General.ScanMode:PersistentorTimed. Default:Persistent.General.DisplayDurationSeconds: label duration in Timed mode. Default:8seconds.Display.NameLanguage: follow the game language, or force English/Simplified Chinese.Display.MaxDistance: maximum label distance in metres.0means unlimited. The window slider uses 20-metre steps.Display.FontSize: label font size.Display.LabelFont: font used by English labels. Chinese text uses a Chinese-capable game font when needed.Display.ShowOwnerNames: show player names for supported placed targets when the source can be identified. Default: enabled.Display.ShowOffscreenDirection: show a direction indicator for targets outside the screen.
PEAKLib.ModConfig is optional. When installed, WhereIsThing provides localized configuration names, descriptions, and enum choices without changing the original configuration keys or values.
Notes
WhereIsThing only reads existing game objects. It does not create, move, pick up, or modify items, luggage, hazards, landmarks, or statue fragments.
Large presets can create many labels and may reduce frame rate. Selecting only the targets you need is recommended.
Player-name labels are for fun only, not reliable proof of who placed an object. They depend on the information available to your client and may be missing or incomplete.
- If you join a session in progress, objects placed before you joined may not show a player name, especially mushrooms whose names depend on locally observed throws.
- Some placed objects may show only the item name and distance, without a player name. Magic bean vines do not show a planter name.
- Shelf shrooms, bounce shrooms, and cloud fungus only show a player name when your client can match the spawned object to a single recent throw. Missing or ambiguous records leave the player name blank.
Built against PEAK 2.4.b, with ModConfig 1.8.2 as the integration baseline. Final in-game checks for 0.1.2, including language switching and multiplayer display, are still pending.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
0.1.2
- Clarified that player-name labels are for fun only: late joins and missing placement information can leave names unavailable, while some objects only show their item name and distance.
- Added a built-in
Player Placedpreset and a globalPlayer namesswitch for supported placed targets. - Added labels for placed checkpoint flags, shelf shrooms, bounce shrooms, cloud fungus, scout cannons, chain-shooter vines, pitons, and rope variants.
- Merged duplicate placed-target entries into their item entries and migrated existing selections. Magic bean vines show names and distances without guessing the planter.
- Improved hammered-piton and rope detection, including delayed object initialization and separate rope/anchor ownership.
- Updated placed-target detection for PEAK 2.4.b, excluded system ropes, and fixed beach breakable bridges being mistaken for chain-shooter vines.
- Thrown mushrooms only show a player name when a unique local throw record identifies the player; other targets retain their name and distance labels.
- Removed custom inventory cleanup for rope shooters and constructables, leaving item consumption and placement to the game.
- Corrected categories for jetpacks, rocketpacks, healing items, deployables, mystical variants, creatures, honeycomb, and chess pieces.
- Kept the statue fragment name mapping and geyser positioning fixes.
- Added a maximum-distance slider with 20-metre steps (
0means unlimited) and tidied the scan settings and player-name controls. - Split item names, player names, and distances into stable rows with lighter outlines and shared shadows.
- Spread target discovery across frames and cached item definitions, placed-target data, player names, and unchanged label text to reduce repeated work.
- Reduced each label from fifteen text objects to three text rows and one arrow, without modifying the game's font materials.
- Lowered the UI canvas sorting order to improve compatibility with TrueFinalAscent dropdown lists while keeping the selection window interactive.
- Updated ModConfig menu and language-change support. Translations only affect this mod's labels and dropdown text; saved values, presets, and multiplayer sharing remain compatible.

Statuescan range for selected amulets. - Added labels for visible, uncollected amulet fragments held by the chapter 1-4 amulet statues.
