# Summon Snapshot
**Give your summons more than just a fighting chance.**
Summon Snapshot is a Risk of Rain 2 mod that expands the capabilities of certain player-created summons by allowing them to inherit items and utilize equipment from their owner.
The goal is to make summons feel like meaningful extensions of the player's build, rather than disposable allies with limited scaling.
Whether you're deploying REX's Proliferation Offshoots or Engineer's turrets, Summon Snapshot aims to make your equipment choices matter beyond your own survivor.
## Features
### REX — Proliferation Offshoots
REX's Proliferation Offshoots receive a snapshot of their owner's eligible items and currently selected equipment when summoned.
- Inherit eligible item stacks from their owner.
- Benefit from compatible offensive, defensive, and utility item effects.
- Receive the owner's selected equipment, subject to safety restrictions.
- Automatically attempt to activate supported equipment when ready.
- Preserve their inherited loadout independently of later player inventory changes.
Item inheritance is applied when the summon is initialized. Existing Offshoots are not continuously synchronized with the player's inventory.
### Engineer — Turret Equipment
Engineer turrets gain the ability to use their owner's selected equipment automatically.
- Receive the owner's selected equipment when deployed.
- Automatically attempt to activate supported equipment when ready.
- Continue using reusable equipment as cooldowns become available.
- Support standard Engineer turret variants recognized by the mod.
Engineer's normal turret item inheritance remains handled by the game. Summon Snapshot focuses on extending their equipment functionality.
### Squid Polyp — Item Inheritance
Squid Polyp turrets receive eligible items from their owner's inventory when summoned.
- Inherit eligible item stacks at spawn.
- Benefit from compatible item effects.
- Exclude certain summon-generating items to reduce recursive spawning.
Automatic equipment activation is not currently provided for Squid Polyp turrets.
## Equipment Automation
Summon Snapshot provides automatic equipment activation for supported summons.
Once equipped, eligible summons periodically check whether their equipment can be activated.
When an equipment item is ready, the summon attempts to use it through the game's equipment system.
**Important considerations:**
- Equipment activation is automatic and does not require player input.
- Reusable equipment can activate again after its cooldown expires.
- Equipment that requires specific targets or activation conditions may not function in every situation.
- Equipment is inherited when the summon is created, rather than updated continuously.
- Equipment Coupler's additional equipment slots are not yet supported.
### Goobo Jr. — Safety Restriction
Goobo Jr. is intentionally excluded from automatic summon equipment activation by default.
Allowing summons to duplicate themselves can create recursive spawning loops, resulting in excessive ally counts, severe performance degradation, or unstable gameplay.
This restriction prioritizes reliable gameplay over unrestricted equipment interactions.
Players can still use Goobo Jr. normally on their own survivor.
## Item Inheritance and Safety
Summon Snapshot copies eligible permanent item stacks from the summoning player's inventory.
To reduce unintended interactions, the mod includes safeguards for:
- Recursive summon generation.
- Nested summons inheriting additional inventories.
- Certain items capable of creating further allied entities.
- Equipment-driven duplication loops.
- Repeated initialization of the same summon.
Not every item or modded item is guaranteed to work correctly on every summon. Item effects depend on the receiving summon and the underlying game's behavior.
## Configuration
The mod provides BepInEx configuration options for supported summon types and equipment behavior.
| Setting | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
| RexFlowers | Enabled | Enable item and equipment inheritance for REX Offshoots |
| EngineerEquipment | Enabled | Enable automatic equipment functionality for Engineer turrets |
| SquidPolyp | Enabled | Enable item inheritance for Squid Polyp turrets |
| CheckIntervalSeconds | 0.25 | How frequently supported summons check equipment readiness |
Additional safety options may be available depending on the installed build. For normal gameplay, the default safety settings are recommended.

v0.3.4 — Release packaging and settings diagnostics
Changed
- Bumped plugin and Thunderstore package version to 0.3.4.
- Improved built-in default blacklist descriptions, removing unnecessary callouts about allowed items.
- Added more useful diagnostic warnings when Risk of Options cannot construct/register the integer summon-cap sliders.
- Prepared the release package with root-level
manifest.json,README.md,CHANGELOG.md,icon.png, and compiled DLL.
Still experimental / not implemented
- REX and Engineer summon-cap settings do not enforce summon limits; no destructive removal is performed when a cap is exceeded.
- Risk of Options registration for the two integer cap controls has not been confirmed fixed in-game.
- Equipment Coupler's additional equipment slots are not copied; the current implementation copies only the selected equipment slot.
v0.3.3 — Inventory synchronization, Operator support, and usability
Summon inheritance
- Added item inheritance for Operator skill drones.
- Added eligible item inheritance for Operator-owned purchased drones and turrets, without equipment copying.
- Added eligible item inheritance for purchased stationary Gunner Turrets for supported owners.
- Added a configurable grounded Gunner Turret tether, with a default 100-meter distance and 10-second check interval. Teleporting requires a valid grounded destination.
- Continued support for REX Offshoots, Engineer equipment activation, and Squid Polyp item inheritance.
Inventory correctness and performance
- Added periodic Operator-owner inventory checks with fingerprints to avoid unnecessary writes.
- Tracked granted inherited stacks so the mod can remove its own inherited items when the owner's eligible inventory changes.
- Corrected inherited-item synchronization after scrapping; playtesting confirmed scrapped items were removed from supported Operator drones.
- Added cleanup for destroyed summon references and tracked inventory state.
- Added an option to avoid redundant inventory updates.
Settings and debugging
- Added optional Risk of Options integration for supported settings.
- Corrected formatting for numeric settings so time, distance, and inspector scale display meaningful units instead of misleading percentages.
- Added an F8 read-only summon inventory inspector that reads actual minion inventories.
- Enlarged the inspector and added configurable scale, with screen-fitting behavior.
- Added extra logging to identify Operator summons, inventory changes, and prefab equipment-slot patches.
- Added experimental REX Offshoot and Engineer turret cap settings, explicitly labeled as not enforced.
Safety and filtering
- Added Warbanner to the default inherited-item blacklist.
- Removed the special default blacklist exclusion of Happiest Mask while retaining the functional exception that allows it to be inherited.
- Maintained default restrictions on summon-spawning/recursive items, hidden items, and selected unsafe equipment behavior.
- Protected inherited Tricorn use pending safe owner-charge handling.
Testing notes
- Confirmed Operator skill drones and purchased Operator-owned drones inherit items.
- Confirmed purchased stationary Gunner Turrets inherit items.
- Confirmed item removal after scrapping and improved settings display in user playtests.
- Logs showed successful plugin loading and REX Offshoot inheritance/equipment activity.
- Logs also showed two Risk of Options integer cap registration failures and unrelated-looking Unity pooling warnings; their causes were not conclusively established.
v0.2.0 — Initial public feature set
- Added REX Proliferation Offshoot inheritance of eligible permanent item stacks and selected equipment.
- Added automatic activation of inherited equipment for supported REX Offshoots and Engineer turrets.
- Added Squid Polyp eligible item inheritance on spawn.
