README

Rasputin — The Mad Mercenary

A knife-throwing Russian mercenary for Risk of Rain 2. Stick knives in your enemies, then rip them all out at once. Brings Counter-Strike utility to the Planet: flashbangs, molotovs, smoke and C4. Every stage starts with a case opening.

"They say he cannot be killed. They say a lot of things. He says nothing, flips his knife, and opens another case."

Core mechanic: Embed and Rip

Thrown knives, kunai and shurikens Embed in the enemies they hit, up to 10 per enemy, and you can see them sticking out. Certain attacks Rip every embedded knife back out, each one dealing heavy damage.

Passive: Case Opening

Once per stage a CS-style case roulette spins at the bottom of your screen. You get a Common, Rare or Legendary case for the whole stage, and your knives change finish to match. Every rarity has 3 variants, each with its own stats. The banner and the chat say which one you got. Several skills get stronger with a better case. Odds are 55% Common, 35% Rare, 10% Legendary, and luck counts: each 57 Leaf Clover opens one more case and keeps the best. The variant is then 1 in 3.

Rarity Variant Stats for the stage
Common Emerald Fang +20% attack speed, +5% crit chance
Common Jade Runner +12% move speed, +10% attack speed, +1 jump
Common Malachite Guard +15 armor, +10% max health, +1.5 HP/s regen
Rare Ruby Rush +30% attack speed, +15% damage, +20% move speed
Rare Garnet Butcher +15% damage, +15% attack speed, +15% crit chance, heal 3% of damage dealt
Rare Crimson Bulwark +25 armor, +20% max health, +10% damage, 15% shorter cooldowns
Legendary Black Gold every hit crits and bleeds, +50% attack speed, +30% move speed
Legendary Gold Rush 40% shorter cooldowns, +1 Secondary and Utility charge, +35% move speed, +30% attack speed, +1 jump
Legendary Mad Monk +60% max health, +30 armor, +25% damage, +3 HP/s regen, heal 8% of damage dealt

Skills

Slot Skill What it does
Primary Karambit 3-hit combo; the hook finisher Rips all embedded knives
Primary Kunai Thrown kunai that Embed; the first throw after a pause always crits
Secondary Shuriken Fan Homing shurikens that Embed; more of them with a better case
Secondary Flashbang Stuns enemies looking at it; Flashed enemies take crits from everyone
Secondary Molotov A fire pool that burns and ignites
Utility Flip Dash Dash where you aim, up included, and throw knives that Embed
Utility Smoke Grenade A smoke cloud that cloaks your team (you turn ghostly) and slows enemies inside
Special Butterfly Execution Lock on, blink behind, flurry, then a backstab that Rips and executes low-health enemies
Special Russian Roulette Gamble: a click resets your cooldowns and lets you go double or nothing; a bang costs health but explodes around you. A Legendary case loads a golden round
Special C4 A sticky bomb that beeps, explodes and Rips everything it hits

All skills are unlocked from the start.

Skins

All unlocked. Each skin also has its own knife finish, until the case opens.

Skin Look Knives
Default Gray digital camo, black plate carrier Emerald
Arctic White winter camo, light gray gear Frost
Desert Sand camo, coyote-tan gear and boots Dune
Blackout Charcoal camo, black gear, red cuffs and subdued patch Redline
Aurora Night camo with teal and violet northern-lights pixels Aurora

Multiplayer

Works in multiplayer. Everyone in the lobby needs the mod, on the same version.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.2.10

  • Butterfly Execution is snappier and no longer whiffs. The blink lands almost instantly and the whole move is about a third shorter (1.3 s to 0.95 s). Rasputin now stays glued behind his target for the whole flurry instead of standing still while it walks off. The slashes no longer knock it out of reach.
  • Butterfly Execution stuns. The target is stunned as he arrives and stays stunned until about 1 s after the backstab. Every slash also stuns whatever it hits. Bosses that can't be stunned still take every hit.
  • Rasputin is 10% slower overall: 6.3 base move speed (was 7) and 0.9 base attack speed (was 1.0). He snowballed too hard in the first stages.

0.2.9

  • Skins are now Default, Void Soldier and a new Ender Dragon. The Advanced Loadout and Cholo skins were built for the old body and showed up broken on the new model (in the character select too), so they're gone, and the mod is about 9 MB smaller.
  • New Ender Dragon skin made for Rasputin. Purple-grey obsidian with glowing magenta ender veins and End-portal specks, on the new model, with matching knives. The automatic one TheEnd used to generate came out as a messy grid on his new texture. With TheEnd 0.1.4 installed it unlocks like every other survivor's Ender skin (leave The End) and gets the small dragon wings and purple particles. Without TheEnd it's simply unlocked.
  • New portrait and Default skin icon from the new model. The character select tile, HUD, logbook, Thunderstore icon and the Default skin's loadout icon still showed the old gray-camo character.

0.2.8

  • New skin: Void Soldier. A void-corrupted Rasputin: black armour split by glowing violet veins, glowing eyes and violet knives. Built on the same skeleton as the default, so every animation, prop and the revolver work the same.

0.2.7

  • Animations fixed for the new model. Every move is back to the original animation set (the one 0.2.2 shipped with), now properly retargeted onto the Meshy mercenary: each bone copies the original's rotation relative to its rest pose, the arms and legs are corrected for the new skeleton's T-pose, and the hips are scaled to the shorter legs. No more limp or fidget idle, and the attacks, throws and Russian Roulette have their proper timing again.
  • Idle is the knife-fighter stance again (0.2.4-0.2.6 used a Meshy fidget clip that bent over).
  • Clips play at their original 30 fps; the Meshy file ran them at 24 fps, 25% slow, so the feet slid while running.
  • Russian Roulette puts the revolver to his head again, and the flashbang, molotov, smoke and C4 only appear while he is throwing or planting them.

0.2.6

  • Readme: bug reports, balance ideas and skin suggestions now go to Discord: Jerelo.

0.2.5

  • Props fixed. The Meshy clips carry no channels for the prop bones, so every held prop sat at its rest scale: the knife showed up during idle/walk and Russian Roulette never drew the revolver (the previous clip set encoded weapon visibility in those bones' scale channels). Those channels are now copied from the previous set onto the new clips, so a weapon only appears when the animation calls for it.

0.2.4

  • Animations redone with Meshy's own clips. The retargeted locomotion read as a limp because the old rig's rest pose did not match the new skeleton; the 19 basic animations Meshy exports for this exact model are now used directly (same rest pose, so they transfer without retargeting). Replaced: idle, walk, jog, sprint, jump start/loop, roll, dash, the three knife slashes, the revolver draw, hit reaction, overhand/underhand throws and death. Hip translation was stripped so every clip plays in place (the game moves the character).

0.2.3

  • New default body: the Tactical Mercenary Commander. The hand-bound Gold Chain Enforcer is gone; the model is now rigged and skinned in Meshy (Mixamo skeleton, 66 bones) and exported straight from Blender, so the deformation is the one the model was built for. All 34 animations were retargeted onto the new skeleton and every knife and prop re-anchored (thigh knife, chest holster, revolver, flashbang, molotov, C4, lighter, pin).
  • Heavier than before (about 50k vertices instead of 8k): if he costs you frames, tell me and I decimate the model.

0.2.2

  • Russian Roulette, double or nothing: after a click you get 3 seconds to pull again for free. Every pull in a row doubles the Adrenaline (1, 2, 4, 8), and more Adrenaline means worse odds. BANG now explodes around you for 400% damage, +150% per Adrenaline lost, times your streak.
  • Smoke Grenade: the smoke now settles on the ground where the can pops (it could pop metres up in the air and miss everyone). While you're Cloaked inside it, Rasputin turns ghostly so you can see it working.
  • Character select: the passive's description is short again, so the Skills tab no longer breaks.
  • Better case odds: 55% Common, 35% Rare, 10% Legendary (was 70 / 25 / 5).
  • Luck counts: each 57 Leaf Clover opens one more case and keeps the best one; Purity keeps the worst.
  • 4 new skins, all unlocked: Arctic (winter camo, Frost knives), Desert (sand camo, coyote gear, Dune knives), Blackout (charcoal camo, black gear, red accents, Redline knives) and Aurora (night camo with northern-lights pixels, Aurora knives). New loadout icons for every skin.
  • Each skin has its own knife finish until the Case Opening swaps in the Common / Rare / Legendary finish, on every skin.
  • Case Opening variants: every rarity now has 3 variants with their own stats (9 in all), from Emerald Fang to Mad Monk. Legendaries change how you play: Black Gold (every hit crits and bleeds), Gold Rush (40% shorter cooldowns, extra charges) or Mad Monk (huge health, armor and lifesteal). The banner and the chat line show the variant and its stats.
  • Russian Roulette feedback: every pull spins a revolver cylinder next to your crosshair that lands on click, BANG! or GOLDEN ROUND!, and a chat line tells everyone what happened. The host decides the result, so every player sees the same outcome.
  • New skill animations: Flashbang and Smoke now show the grenade in hand, the left hand yanking the pin, a wind-up, and the release right as the grenade leaves (overhand flash, real underhand smoke lob). Molotov has its own throw: light the rag with a lighter, then whip the bottle. C4 shows the brick in his hand as he plants it. Butterfly Execution has a new flurry: six alternating slashes timed to the hits, then a lunging backstab.
  • Grenade cues: a pin ping, a spoon flick on release, a smoke trail behind the smoke grenade and a white trail on the flashbang. Grenades now leave from his hand.
  • The golden round's revolver now points exactly where you aim, standing or running.

0.2.1

  • Fix: Rasputin could be missing for some players. The character's model files are now built into RasputinMod.dll, so a damaged or missing AssetBundles folder can't hide him anymore.

0.2.0

  • Reworked kit around Embed and Rip, with 10 skills: two or three choices for every slot.
  • New skills: Kunai, Flashbang, Molotov, Smoke Grenade, Russian Roulette, C4.
  • Flip Dash now follows your aim in 3D.
  • Butterfly Execution locks on before you cast and can't whiff.
  • Fixed the knife props floating off the body; new icons and animations.

0.1.0

  • First version.
