Death Log
Death Log was previously called Last Three Hits.
When a player dies, Death Log shows the last three damage events in red game chat, newest first. Each row shows the source, effect, and reported damage. The killing event is included when the selected mode has that data. Repeated hits from the same source remain separate events.
A short sound plays once when your own player dies. Other players need the mod installed if they want the sound. The host's chat reports remain visible to players who do not have the mod.
Install and update
Install Death Log by rawteam with r2modman. Start with Start modded. The mod needs BepInExPack and RoR2BepInExPack; the package lists these dependencies.
The internal plugin ID and DLL name remain the same as Last Three Hits, so settings are kept. The old package has a separate migration update that depends on Death Log. Do not manually copy another copy of the DLL into the profile.
Choose a mode
After the first launch, close the game and use the r2modman config editor.
The config file remains BepInEx/config/com.rawteam.lastthreehits.cfg.
Setting in [Reports] |
Use | Reports |
|---|---|---|
Mode = Host (default) |
Install on the lobby host | Host reports for every player, visible to the lobby |
Mode = Local |
Join a host that has no death-report mod | Personal fallback reports in your own chat |
When an updated host sends a report, a client in Local mode cancels its pending fallback and uses the host report. Legacy Last Three Hits reports also cancel a pending fallback. Once host reports are detected, personal fallback stops for that run. Use Host mode on the host for full damage data.
Client-only data can omit the final hit, attacker, exact attack, and damage-over- time type. Death Log cannot recover events the server never sent. An unknown source remains unknown unless the game supplies a source or a retained source name is available. It does not guess an attacker from damage size or color.
Death sound
The default sound is a short, generated descending tone. No external sound file is required. It plays for local player death, not for every report in chat.
Setting in [Sound] |
Default | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Enabled |
true |
Enable or disable the death sound |
Volume |
0.65 |
Set sound volume from 0 to 1 |
CustomFile |
empty | Optional WAV or OGG file |
For CustomFile, use an absolute file path or a path relative to the DLL folder.
Restart after changing it. A missing or invalid custom file leaves the default
sound active and writes a warning to the log. Each player supplies their own
custom sound file; files are not sent through the lobby.
Sources and damage amounts
-
Host reports identify fog and lava from the game controller that applied the damage. Other known hazard fields use an environment label.
-
Interaction sources use their display names. Host reports label Void Cradle and other percent-health purchases as health costs.
-
On the host, Fuel Array attachment damage is labeled Fuel Array. A hit on its own carrier is marked self-damage. Client-only notifications can identify Self when attacker and victim are the same object, but omit the attachment.
-
A Void Infestor hit in its infestation state is labeled Leap / infestation when the host has that state data.
-
Source names are captured before damage callbacks can destroy the source. A client also retains known body names for late damage notifications.
-
A damage callback and its death callback use one entry. A replacement death record within the same lethal damage call updates that entry.
-
A partial death record fills missing details. It cannot discard a named hit in favor of a generic self-damage label.
-
Equal, separate hits remain separate rows. They are not merged by damage amount.
-
Damage is the amount reported by the game. It can include shields and barriers and exceed the health that remained. It is not a health-loss meter.
-
New bodies have new histories. Fewer than three events produce fewer rows.
-
Custom revival that reuses the same dead body is not verified.
Logs and support
The host writes its reports to BepInEx/LogOutput.log. Clients with Death Log
also save received host reports there, including reports from Last Three Hits.
Unknown entries include diagnostic details: whether the attacker was not supplied
or was destroyed, the available effect, damage flags, and damage-over-time type.
Client diagnostics include the raw attacker network ID when it was available.
For an issue, provide the game version, mod list, mode, steps, and both players' logs if available. Remove personal information before sharing logs.
Built against Risk of Rain 2 1.5.0 and BepInEx 5. Game updates and other mods can change the available damage data. See the release notes for verified cases.

Verification: the chat, sound, and source-retention build passed 20 real-game checks and two local multiplayer scenarios through Proton. The later hazard and interaction-name fixes passed direct game checks. The final hazard changes were not retested in multiplayer. The wider source audit was stopped at the user's request and does not cover every attack. Separate Steam accounts, native Windows, and custom audio files remain unverified.

- Record three damage events per player body.
- Add Host and Local modes and report deaths in chat.
- Host mode passed eight scripted real-game checks through Proton.
