README

PlacementPlus

A decoration and placement quality of life mod for Shadows of Doubt. It lets you place held items exactly where you want them, fixes a few annoyances with the built in decor tools, and adds a large set of extra objects to the apartment decorating menu, including working security fixtures. Aside from those security devices, which are the game's own and function once placed, it does not change gameplay rules, cases, or how citizens behave.

Features

Precision item placement. Hold or carry any placeable item and press the placement key (default V) to pin it in the air in front of you. From there you can push it around with the arrow keys, raise and lower it, and rotate it on any axis, then set it down frozen at that exact pose. It works with any item you can hold, not just weapons, so you can arrange guns on a rack, line up cans on a shelf, stand a plush toy on a desk, or hang a piece anywhere you like. It also works on lights and fixtures that were already in the room, such as a ceiling light you would rather move elsewhere, which now stay where you put them. The object stays where you leave it and survives saving and loading.

Copy and paste rotation. While placing, you can store the current orientation and apply it to the next item, so a row of objects can all sit at the same angle without fiddling each one by hand. It copies the rotation only, never the position.

Smart put back. When you pick up an item you placed and drop it again nearby, it returns to its exact spot with its rotation intact, instead of being thrown or landing flat. This works even when the item is on a wall or a rack, where the normal drop would otherwise throw it because there is no flat surface to rest it on. If you carry it well away from its spot and drop it there, it behaves like a normal thrown item again.

Ceiling light fix. Player placed ceiling lights normally hang about a metre below the ceiling. This snaps them up flush against the ceiling where they belong. It does not touch the normal room lights.

Move furniture further away. When you place furniture from the decor menu, the preview is normally stuck about a metre in front of you. This lets you use the arrow keys to push it further out, pull it closer, or slide it sideways, so you can reach the far side of a room. Wall pieces keep their normal aim at the wall behavior.

Surface clearance. When an object would end up partly sunk into a wall, floor, or ceiling, it is nudged back out so it cannot disappear behind a panel and become impossible to pick up again. It only ever pushes an object out of solid walls, floors, and ceilings, never off the furniture it is meant to sit on, and it leaves anything that is already clear exactly where you put it.

Extra decor objects. A large set of objects that are normally hidden from the apartment decorating menu are added to it, each priced at fifty. The full list is below and is editable in the config file.

Security fixtures. Security cameras, sentry guns, laser tripwires, alarm switches, and alarm sirens are added to the decor menu with proper names, and the mod lets you place them in your own apartment even though the game normally refuses (its ceiling air duct check and overlap check block them). These are the game's real devices, not props, so they work once placed. The camera, sentry gun, and laser mount on the ceiling; the switch goes on a wall and the siren on the floor. Turn the whole set off with the IncludeSecurity config switch if you only want the cosmetic objects.

Added objects

Every object below is added to the apartment decorating menu at a price of fifty. The security fixtures are placeable in your own apartment (see Security fixtures above). Compatibility

This mod adds placement tools and decor objects. Your saves are not tied to it: objects you place ride the normal save, so they persist without any separate file, and every change is wrapped so that a problem cannot crash your game. Apart from the security fixtures, which are the game's own working devices and function once placed, it does not change cases or how citizens otherwise behave. It runs alongside other mods.

Requirements

  • The BepInEx IL2CPP pack, listed as a dependency.
  • Keep the game on its current version. The mod is built against the live game build.

Config

A config file is created the first time you run the game with the mod installed, at BepInEx/config/Kropath.PlacementPlus.cfg. Every feature can be turned on or off, every key can be rebound, the price and the full list of added objects can be edited, and there is a switch to offer the hidden ceiling pieces if you want them.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.0.2

  • Security fixtures added to the decor menu with proper names: security cameras, sentry guns, laser tripwires, alarm switches, and alarm sirens. The mod lets you place them in your own apartment even though the game normally refuses. They are the game's real devices, so they work once placed (a sentry gun arms). Turn the set off with the IncludeSecurity config switch.

1.0.1

  • Placed items no longer go missing after a save and reload. Items you set down, especially stolen ones or items left somewhere other than your own apartment, could be dropped from the save or cleaned up by the game. Anything you place with the mod is now kept with the save so it is still there when you load back in.
  • Moving a light or fixture that was already in the room now sticks. Repositioning a ceiling or wall light that the game had placed could let it jump back to its original spot when you looked away or reloaded. Fixtures you move now stay where you put them.

1.0.0

First release. A decorating and placement quality of life mod that does not change gameplay rules, cases, or how citizens behave.

  • Precision item placement. Pin any held or carried item in front of you, move it around, and rotate it on any axis, then set it down frozen at that exact pose. It works with any item you can hold, and the object stays where you leave it through saving and loading.
  • Copy and paste rotation while placing, so a row of objects can all sit at the same angle.
  • Smart put back. Dropping an item near where you placed it returns it to that exact spot with its rotation intact, including items on walls and racks that the normal drop would otherwise throw.
  • Ceiling light fix. Snaps player placed ceiling lights up flush against the ceiling instead of leaving them hanging below it.
  • Move furniture further away in the decor menu with the arrow keys, so you can reach the far side of a room.
  • Surface clearance. Nudges a placed object back out of a wall, floor, or ceiling so it cannot sink behind a panel and become impossible to pick up again.
  • A large set of objects that are normally hidden from the apartment decorating menu are added to it.

Every feature can be turned on or off and every key can be rebound in the config file. See the README for the full controls and the list of added objects.
