This mod requires the following mods to function
denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim
BepInEx pack for Valheim. Preconfigured with the correct entry point for mods and preferred defaults for the community.
Preferred version: 5.4.2350ValheimModding-Jotunn
Jötunn (/ˈjɔːtʊn/, 'giant'), the Valheim Library was created with the goal of making the lives of mod developers easier. It enables you to create mods for Valheim using an abstracted API so you can focus on the actual content creation.
Preferred version: 2.30.0ADARC-BackpacksValheim1Compat
A narrow compatibility patch for Smoothbrain Backpacks 1.3.8 on Valheim 1.0.7, including safe multiplayer auto-pickup guards.

Rootbound Witch
Runtime requirements: BepInEx, Jotunn, and ADARC-BackpacksValheim1Compat.
The compatibility package installs the official Smoothbrain Backpacks 1.3.8
dependency and applies the required Valheim 1.0 repairs before it is loaded.
Rootbound Witch is a restriction-led Valheim transformation. It is not a collection of free buffs: one armour set becomes the player's entire equipment pilgrimage, plant magic replaces ordinary progression, the forest recognizes the wearer, and every major gift has a cost.
Forest eitr food
- Mossbread and Bilberry Mash establish the early-game plant-magic food path.
- Rootbound Shortcake is the Deep North capstone. It inherits Frosted Sweetbread's live appearance and crafting gate but rewrites the meal into an extreme mage trade: 0 health, 120 eitr and 70 stamina for 30 minutes. It provides no health regeneration.
The remaining biome steps are intentionally available for a fuller one-food-per-biome progression rather than silently inventing recipes or balance values for the player.
This is the first local trial build for the current Valheim 1.0 client. It does not replace vanilla Root armour or modify a world save.
Required on every machine
- Valheim 1.0
- BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350
- Jötunn 2.30.0
- ADARC Backpacks Valheim 1 Compatibility 1.0.4 (which installs the official Smoothbrain Backpacks 1.3.8 package)
- Rootbound Witch 1.2.2
Install the same package on the dedicated server and every joining client. MagicPlugin 2.1.9 and DvergerStaves 1.0.9 are optional visual/attack-source integrations: when present, the Crook borrows their appropriate reclaimed-staff body or secondary-cast architecture; otherwise it falls back to live vanilla sources.
The Rootbound equipment tree
The Mask, Harness and Leggings are separate items cloned from vanilla Root armour. They begin at Plains-level protection and persist through four growths instead of being replaced by later armour.
| Growth | Target tier | Armour per piece | Full-set armour | Upgrade material family |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Plains | 26 | 78 | Draugr-village remains |
| 2 | Mistlands | 32 | 96 | Carapace, soft tissue and refined eitr |
| 3 | Ashlands | 38 | 114 | Ask hide, celestial feather and charred bone |
| 4 | Deep North | 44 | 132 | Frost core, timberwood and moose hide |
Petrified harvesting tools
The complete-set metal refusal no longer creates a solo progression dead end. Two purpose-built tools carry universal harvesting clearance from their first growth and use the live Blackmetal counterpart's damage and durability curves:
PetrifiedRootPickuses the Antler Pickaxe silhouette, with its pale antler fossilized into walnut-brown root.PetrifiedRootAxeuses the Bronze Axe silhouette, but its blade is rendered as non-metallic corewood with a restrained wood grain.
Neither recipe contains metal, so both remain legal while Rootbound. Their unusually high tool tier decides which deposits and trees may be harvested, while their Blackmetal-class working damage prevents later-biome marble and timber from becoming multi-minute chores. Damage and durability retain ordinary four-quality scaling through upgrades made from Mistlands, Ashlands and Deep North materials.
Each piece grants quality-aware static eitr and eitr regeneration. A complete set:
- makes ordinary and frozen Greydwarves, Greylings, Brutes and Shamans treat the wearer as kin, using the owner-authored full-set tier even when their AI is controlled by another client or the dedicated server;
- makes Dvergers attack on sight from growth two onward;
- at growth two, rejects the Wet status entirely and projects +20 comfort once throughout the same 50-metre social field;
- rejects metal equipment and animal food;
- increases fire damage received;
- heals near living trees, then changes allegiance to Deep North cold at growth four;
- regenerates stamina faster in its home biomes;
- withers on worked stone and black marble;
- roots a motionless wearer briefly; the hold restores health only while no weapon is held in either hand;
- prevents falling-tree impact damage;
- permits exactly one additional jump before landing;
- removes five Running and five Jumping levels when the wearer personally kills a creature whose live drops contain meat;
- at growth three, chars the armour and equipped Overgrowth crown to dark walnut;
- at growth four, turns to white permafrost moss over frost-grey skin, gains restrained blue-white crystal growths made from the vanilla ice-staff material, gains +50 Sneak, ignores frost damage, and becomes still more vulnerable to fire.
Rootbound Overgrowth
RootboundOvergrowth moves the accepted Bog Witch branch crown out of the automatic set effect and into a real, removable shoulder-slot item. The Lox-cape donor supplies ordinary mountain frost protection, but its cloth model is removed: only the extracted upper- and lower-back branch geometry is rendered. The crown is not a fourth set requirement and may be equipped or removed without breaking Rootbound kinship.
Its first growth uses the same Draugr-remains origin as the armour, allowing a metal-refusing solo witch to cross the Mountains without depending on a Wolf or Lox cape. Later upgrades follow the Mistlands, Ashlands and Deep North material ladder. At quality three its branches char to dark walnut. At quality four its complete geometry bleaches to the same permafrost white. A compact ZDO state preserves the equipped/removed, ordinary, charred and permafrost crown states for remote players.
Borrowed Root: the multiplayer field
The complete set emits a 50-metre field. Every other living player inside it receives Borrowed Root, doubling stamina regeneration. The emitting wearer never receives their own aura.
The complete set also contracts its wearer's rendered body and fitted Rootbound Overgrowth to 72% scale. The owner publishes only the equipped tier; every Rootbound client reconstructs the same stature, so other players see the small forest entity too. This is a visual phenotype only: collision, camera, reach, movement statistics and mount mechanics remain vanilla-sized, and players not wearing all three armour pieces are never resized. The late presentation pass composes with Shapekeys and other appearance mods instead of repeatedly multiplying their scale.
At quality four, that same remote presentation includes the white armour, frost-grey skin, ice-crystal accents, permafrost crown and—when equipped—the whitened Rootbound Satchel. The observer keeps this presentation even when their own character is not Rootbound; the full-set tier used for remote stature is also a redundant witness for the armour colourway. None of these cosmetic material changes are written into the character save.
If at least one other player is inside the field, the wearer moves at 85% speed. This is one flat cost and never stacks with recipient count. Two Rootbound wearers may receive one another's fields, but no source can buff itself.
At minimum set quality two, the same 50-metre area contributes exactly +20 comfort to the wearer and every nearby player. Multiple Rootbound sources do not stack the comfort bonus. The quality-two wearer also refuses Valheim's Wet status at the environment-effect boundary, so rain and immersion cannot impose its stamina/health-regeneration penalties while the complete set remains equipped.
Rootbound Crook
The Crook is a dead Surtling staff visibly reclaimed by a low-poly constricting root, bark knots, asymmetric tendrils and sprouts that distort the old shaft. Its light and ember emission are removed, its core is recoloured as lifeless stone, and the live Staff of the Wild projectile becomes translucent black-green mould dust.
- Primary attack: copied from the live
StaffGreenRootsitem, but every cast germinates three roots in a triangular formation and costs eitr only—never health. - Secondary attack/right bumper: 25 thin native Elder vines emitted from the moving staff tip at 0.1-second intervals and steered by live camera LOS. Every vine uses the same explicit 80 blunt + 80 poison packet as the primary before quality growth and returns 4 health on connection.
- Quality two or higher marks its wielder as a forest threat to Dvergers.
The former standalone Crookbound Root is retired. Its other useful half now belongs to the armour: while the complete-set wearer is overencumbered, the next damaging enemy hit raises 24 allied brown Elder roots across 25 metres. The hardened roots have twice their former base health, last 30 seconds, return 20% of outgoing damage, and cannot trigger another field until the configurable 30-second guard expires.
Frosted Root
FrostedRoot is the Crook's Deep North sister weapon. It consumes one Rootbound Crook plus FrostCore and Frostwood at first growth, removes the Surtling core geometry entirely, and turns the reclaimed wood, root coil and sprouts into visibly pale snowbound material.
- Both attacks retain the ordinary empty fireball-throw gesture; the hand emits no false summon effect.
- Primary attack: six live Moder ice projectiles fall from 20 metres above the aimed point at triple the former speed.
- Secondary attack/right bumper: Eikthyr's genuine antler shockwave, fired from the player's live camera line of sight using Crookbound Root's proven aim contract. Its seed now travels at 52 m/s for a genuine ranged cast instead of the former short shotgun reach. It remaps the primary's complete quality-aware packet into lightning + spirit: 125 lightning + 150 spirit at quality one, with the same +20 lightning per growth. The direct victim and two jumps are guaranteed; there is then a 75% chance of a fourth victim and, only if that succeeds, a 50% chance of a fifth. Each hop searches within 18 metres and one cast costs 65 eitr.
- Primary base damage per shard: 125 frost + 85 pierce + 65 spirit at quality one, with a six-metre hostile splash around each impact.
- Upgrade damage: +20 frost damage at each quality above the first, for +60 over the live Deep North baseline at quality four.
- Maximum quality: four; every growth remains in the Deep North material family.
Rootbound Fang
RootboundFang converts the live Ashlands Root Fang into a precision eitr bow. Its wood and magical growth are aged into the Crook's almost-black draugr-rot palette.
- Every draw costs 35 eitr and consumes no physical arrow.
- Its self-generated narrow projectile deals 100 poison + 100 spirit + 75 pierce at quality one.
- Each upgrade adds 10 to all three channels through quality four.
- The level-four Galdr-table recipe consumes one Root Fang, 35 Refined Eitr, 20 Roots and 10 Morgen Sinew.
- Unlike the capstone area weapons, this is the deliberate low-collateral answer for boats, bases and single targets.
Rootbound Charm
The charm is built from the live Jormundling trinket body and replaces its effect with:
- +40 Elemental Magic;
- +40 Blood Magic;
- +40 maximum eitr;
- feather fall (terminal fall speed and fall damage protection);
- a seven-minute Forsaken-power cooldown when the power is activated while the charm is equipped.
Forsaken-power duration is not changed.
Rootbound Wisp
RootboundWisp is a direct Wisplight continuation. It preserves the live Wisplight's light and mist-clearing behaviour, remains in Valheim's Utility slot, and adds exactly 150 maximum carry weight by default. The Rootbound Charm remains in the separate Trinket slot, so both can stay equipped together. Its workbench conversion consumes one Wisplight and three Roots; the vanilla Wisplight is not modified.
Mycelial Crook
MycelialCrook is the third reclaimed staff. Its Surtling core is removed and replaced by a softly glowing yellow mushroom crown.
- Primary attack throws the red mushroom itself, then plants a persistent, harvestable red mushroom on the directly aimed surface.
- Secondary attack uses the same throwing gesture and plants a persistent yellow mushroom. Its object remains recognizably yellow, while its gentler illumination copies Valheim's live campfire colour, intensity, falloff and shadow profile across a 60-metre radius rather than emitting the former hard synthetic-yellow glare.
- Both casts are non-damaging and cost eitr only.
- The workbench recipe consumes one Rootbound Crook, ten red mushrooms, ten yellow mushrooms and ten Sap.
Charred Root
Charred Root is the deliberately punishing Deep North capstone. It retains the historical TearboundTrollstav prefab identity so existing saved weapons remain valid, but its player-facing name and complete secondary attack have changed. Its Rootbound Crook frame carries only the Trollstav's live red-head geometry, drained into a dull, opaque, non-emissive crown; the old Surtling core is removed beneath it.
- Primary attack calls 24 genuine Obliterator lightning effects in a low-clumping distribution across a 25-metre aimed field; the first strike is guaranteed at exact LOS. The lightning is recoloured red and each strike deals 150 lightning, 150 fire, 75 spirit, 50 blunt and 50 pierce inside its impact radius at quality one. One storm costs 110 eitr. The caster, allied players, tamed creatures and allied summons are protected; hostile characters, environmental objects and built structures remain valid targets.
- Maximum quality is four. Every upgrade adds 10 lightning, 10 fire, 10 spirit, 10 blunt and 10 pierce to both the character and structure packets, reaching +30 in every channel at quality four.
- Secondary attack reproduces Yagluth's boss-scale cadence: ten genuine GoblinKing meteors descend from 50 metres at 30 m/s, spaced half a second apart across a fifteen-metre field around the aimed point. Every meteor carries exactly twice the primary's complete quality-aware damage packet. One barrage costs 220 eitr plus 25% of the health available at cast time—not maximum health.
- The level-four Galdr-table recipe is exactly 3 Bell Fragments, 3 Bloodstones, 3 Iolite, 10 Thunderstones, 10 Black Cores, 65 Refined Eitr and 25 Yagluth Drops.
Draconic Crook
DraconicCrook is Fader's attack grammar placed inside an isolated copy of the vanilla Staff of Frost. The original ice staff is never recoloured or rewritten: the clone owns every material it changes, and registration finishes by auditing/restoring the donor's complete visual state. The copied ice light burns Fader green.
- Primary attack: at camera LOS, 12-15 genuine
Fader_Fissure_AOEstages erupt at Fader's exact 0.45-second cadence. At quality one each stage retains the live four-second emergence, fifteen-second lifetime, eleven-metre AOE and 120 fire + 80 spirit character damage. The cast costs 95 eitr. - Secondary attack: ten genuine
projectile_meteor_faderobjects descend from ninety metres at 30 m/s across a fifteen-metre field around camera LOS. At quality one each preserves Fader's five-metre 40 blunt + 120 fire impact and its subsequent 80 fire + 80 spirit wall of green flame. The cast costs 140 eitr. - Maximum quality is four. Every upgrade adds 10 damage to each channel already present in the individual Fader packet, reaching +30 per authored channel at quality four.
- Its level-four Galdr-table recipe consumes one Staff of Frost, two Fader trophies, fifteen Fader Embers, three Jade and 65 Refined Eitr.
- Growth two costs another Fader trophy, 10 Fader Embers and 20 Refined Eitr; growth three costs another trophy, 15 Embers, 1 Jade and 30 Refined Eitr; growth four costs another trophy, 20 Embers, 2 Jade and 40 Refined Eitr. Reaching quality four therefore requires five Fader victories.
Bog Witch and Kvastur
While the complete armour set is worn, the Bog Witch offers a Rootbound Kvastur Scroll for 350 coins.
- Primary attack summons one owned Kvastur companion. Summoning again replaces the player's earlier companion.
- Secondary attack/right bumper uses a live axe's downward-strike control path and executes only that player's owned companion through Valheim's ordinary death lifecycle.
- Summoned Kvastur have no loot table and cannot be used to multiply drops.
- Ownership is stored on the networked summon so players cannot recall one another's broom.
- Summon and recall input executes only on the attacking player's owning client. Other peers receive the resulting network creature but never create additional hostile copies.
Buying the Kvastur scroll also records a persistent, per-character forest-recognition key. Once recognized, the same full-set shopper can buy a Rootbound Galdr Charter for 750 coins. Buying the charter permanently exposes personal-inventory copies of every currently loaded recipe whose base craft requirement equals the highest live Galdr-table level. The Charter itself also controls one strengthened Abomination companion, so it remains a functional instrument after purchase rather than inert proof of the unlock.
- The charter preserves the source recipe's output and ingredient requirements.
- The original Galdr-table recipe is not removed or modified.
- Hand copies appear only while crafting without a station; the inventory item does not need to remain carried after purchase.
- The loaded recipe table is inspected dynamically, allowing compatible modded Galdr recipes to participate.
- The same Charter layer follows live animal ingredients through the loaded recipe graph and reclaims each raw meat or meat-containing food into exactly one Sap.
- Merely spawning or otherwise possessing either purchased item repairs its corresponding character key for testing and migration.
- Charter primary attack costs 85 eitr and summons one owner-bound, two-star Abomination with a 4,800-health target, Mistlands vision, heavy resistances and 20 health regenerated per second.
- Charter secondary attack uses the same live axe downward-strike control path and executes only that player's Abomination. A living Abomination blocks and refunds another primary summon, its drops are removed, and it does not consume the player's separate Kvastur slot.
- Outside combat the Abomination spawns beyond and follows no closer than 15 metres. Its vanilla standing click-groans remain intact, while the repetitive ambient grunt is suppressed only during movement.
- The Abomination carries a permanent
Living Yokefitted from Valheim's live saddle controller. Its Charter bearer may interact to mount and steer it with ordinary riding controls; other players cannot take control or remove the yoke. While mounted, primary attack commands its native arm sweep and secondary attack commands its centered ground smash; jump remains the ordinary dismount control. Follow-distance enforcement pauses while occupied. - The Charter also exposes
RootboundModerSigilonly in its stationless personal-inventory recipe layer. It costs one Howling Cavern Cultist trophy, one Smouldering Tomb Skeleton trophy and one Sealed Tower berserker-bros trophy. - Sigil primary attack calls one owner-bound, non-boss lesser Moder with 1,800 health and 45% of live Moder damage; the familiar axe-strike secondary recalls only the caller's Moder. A living Moder blocks and refunds another primary summon. It has no drops, boss HUD, defeat key or boss event, keeps a 15-metre following boundary, and suppresses its repetitive voice while out of combat.
- Kvastur follows the same strict one-living-companion rule: primary refuses and refunds a duplicate while secondary recalls the existing summon.
- The Charter also exposes the stationless
RootboundGreydwarfWarbandScroll. Primary spends 65 eitr and fires ten audited copies of the vanilla Trollstav's flaming meteor delivery, each rewritten to contain one ordinary level-three Greydwarf instead of a troll; repeat casts deliberately stack. Secondary executes at most ten nearest regular Greydwarfs within 50 metres per cast. The scroll does not tame or change their faction: full Rootbound kinship is what makes the warband friendly. - The Charter's
RootboundGjallAerostatScrollcosts ten Gjall trophies, 40 refined eitr and one Rootbound Wisp. It calls one owner-bound half-scale Gjall; another primary summon is refused and refunded until the axe-strike secondary recalls it. - Its Aerostat Yoke uses Valheim's live saddle network path. Ordinary movement steers horizontally at 3.5 m/s, held Use (
E/ controllerA) rises, held Crouch descends, mounted primary commands the Gjall's native fireball, and Jump dismounts. Its own AI cannot take over while occupied. - The Charter also exposes
RootboundMorgenScroll: 30 Morgen Sinew, 50 Rotten Meat, 30 Refined Eitr and 100 Sulfur bind one owner-bound level-three Morgen. Primary calls it for 160 eitr, a living Morgen blocks and refunds duplicates, and the axe-strike secondary recalls only its owner. Its drops are removed and it holds the established 15-metre companion boundary.
Rootbound Satchel
The mod uses Smoothbrain Backpacks' supported external-YAML interface and does not redistribute its models or code. On load it installs the namespaced Backpacks.RootboundWitch.generated.yml, enables external YAML, and asks Backpacks to reload it.
The satchel starts at 4x3 slots and halves the weight of every item stored inside it. It grows through 5x3, 5x4 and 6x4 using Mistlands, Ashlands and Deep North materials. Its recipe begins with Draugr remains, leather scraps and fine wood.
Trial protocol
Use a disposable local character/world first. Verify content in this order:
- Confirm the BepInEx log contains
Rootbound content registeredand no Rootbound exception. - Spawn or craft all Rootbound items; inspect recipes at every quality. Spawn
PetrifiedRootPickandPetrifiedRootAxe, confirm the full set accepts them, then test each against ordinary and latest-biome resources. - Equip the complete set and check Greydwarf neutrality, metal/meat refusal and the double jump. Take root while armed and unarmed; the hold must persist in both cases, but only empty hands may restore health.
- Bring one second player across the 50 m boundary; verify only the receiver gets Borrowed Root and the wearer slows exactly once.
- Upgrade the set or Crook to quality two and verify Dverger hostility.
- Test Rootbound Crook primary and secondary on a disposable hostile creature. Confirm the first launches three roots and the second launches 25 LOS-steered Elder vines; the ledger must show 80 blunt + 80 poison for every projectile at quality one. Then become overencumbered in the full armour set, take an enemy hit, and verify one 24-root field appears, its roots survive twice as much punishment, and another field cannot appear for 30 seconds.
- Spawn
FrostedRoot; verify six fast Moder shards on primary, each beginning at 125 frost + 85 pierce + 65 spirit with a six-metre splash, and the long-range aimed Eikthyr lightning chain on secondary. At quality one its ledger must read 125 lightning + 150 spirit; qualities two through four add 20 lightning each. Test three clustered enemies for guaranteed coverage, then larger groups for the 75% fourth and conditional 50% fifth jumps inside 18 metres. - Spawn
RootboundWisp; equip it beside the Rootbound Charm and full armour, then verify ordinary Wisplight behaviour and exactly +150 carry capacity without losing the Charm effect. - Spawn
MycelialCrook; throw both mushroom types, harvest them, relog, and verify the unharvested yellow plant persists and lights the room. - Buy and summon Kvastur with two different player IDs; verify another primary cast is refused and refunded while it lives, then use the axe-like downward secondary strike and verify it kills only the caller's Kvastur.
- After buying Kvastur, close and reopen the Bog Witch store; buy the Galdr Charter and verify only the highest-level Galdr recipes appear in inventory crafting with unchanged costs.
- Equip the Charter: primary should summon one strengthened Abomination for 85 eitr; another primary should be refused and refunded until the axe-like secondary kills it. Verify it follows, fights Mistlands creatures, regenerates and drops nothing. Interact with the Living Yoke, ride and steer it; right trigger/primary should perform the native arm sweep, right bumper/secondary should perform the centered ground smash, and jump should dismount. Then verify a second player cannot mount, command or remove it.
- With the Charter key, verify
RootboundModerSigilappears in personal crafting only when no station is active and requires the three Hildir-site trophies. Summon, attempt and fail to duplicate, fight beside and recall Moder; confirm no boss bar, event, key or drops. - Spawn
RootboundGreydwarfWarbandScroll; primary-cast twice and verify twenty separate flaming Trollstav meteors deliver twenty level-three regular Greydwarfs, with no troll hidden in any impact. With full-set kinship active, verify they remain ordinary allied forest creatures. Secondary-cast once and confirm at most ten within 50 metres die; cast again to clear the next ten. - Spawn
RootboundGjallAerostatScroll; summon the half-scale Gjall and verify a second primary is refused and refunded. Mount through the Aerostat Yoke, steer horizontally, hold Use to rise, hold Crouch to descend, fire with primary and dismount with Jump. Verify secondary recall works after dismounting. - Activate a Forsaken power with and without the charm and compare cooldowns.
- Spawn
RootboundOvergrowth, equip and remove it at qualities one and four while a second client watches. Verify the cloth donor never appears; the branch crown follows animation and disappears remotely; complete-set stature is 72% on both screens; and tier four reproduces white armour, frost-grey skin, ice crystals, permafrost crown and the whitened equipped Rootbound Satchel for the observer. Confirm the cape protects against Mountain cold without becoming a fourth set requirement. - Spawn
RootboundFang; fire it with no arrows in inventory and verify each shot costs 35 eitr, follows bow draw/LOS, and delivers 100 poison + 100 spirit + 75 pierce at quality one without an area blast. - Spawn the save-compatible
TearboundTrollstavprefab and verify it displays as Charred Root. Aim the primary into a disposable hostile field and verify the first of 24 red strikes lands exactly at LOS while the remainder cover the aimed 25-metre area. Upgrade through quality four and verify each primary channel rises by 10 per growth. Use secondary and verify ten slow GoblinKing meteors descend from 50 metres across a fifteen-metre LOS field, each carries twice the quality-aware primary packet, 220 eitr is spent and exactly 25% of current health is removed. - Craft
RootboundMorgenScrollby hand after acquiring the Charter. Summon one level-three Morgen, verify a duplicate is refused and refunded, then use the secondary strike to recall it. Repeat with a second player to confirm ownership remains separate. - Put known-weight stacks into the Rootbound Satchel and verify their total stored weight is exactly 50% of inventory weight.
- Test logout/reconnect, portal travel and server restart before using the package on the live realm.
Configuration is synchronized by Jötunn. The mod deliberately performs no automatic profile installation and no save migration.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
1.3.1
- Repaired Soul Caller Nords on the authoritative multiplayer peer by transplanting the live Fallen Warrior's real weapon/loadout pools and combat-search tuning into the blue
ShadowPersonclone. They now expose a health bar, acquire hostile creatures, retaliate and fight as living owner-bound allies rather than remaining invulnerable-looking village scenery. - Released Soul Caller Nords from the large-animal 15-metre anti-crowding boundary. They now follow directly beside their owner like Kvastur, while the working vanilla Spirit Caller animals retain their existing minimum distance and recall behavior unchanged.
- Added a two-metre same-owner formation radius between idle Soul Nords. Crowded souls temporarily yield owner-following to walk apart, but enemy targeting always takes precedence so the spacing rule cannot interrupt combat.
1.3.0
- Extended the live Deep North Spirit Caller without replacing its animal pool, blood-magic scaling or summon presentation. Its four animal spirits now bind to the casting player, ignore collision with their owner, stop following inside the existing 15-metre companion boundary and answer an owner-only axe-strike secondary recall.
- Added
SoulCaller, an isolated Spirit Caller conversion built from the actual blueShadowPersonvillage spirit rather than the orange Fallen Warrior. Each Nord is nameless, reports only “loves you” when petted, retains its randomized armed loadouts, becomes an owner-bound mortal ally with no drops, loses only its looping spectral wind, observes the 15-metre boundary and returns through secondary recall. Soul Caller now upgrades through quality four with a per-owner capacity of exactly one through four living souls. - Gave the live Northern Vengeance an exact cloned Staff of Protection cast on secondary attack. An attack-local cloned item now carries the protection status, allowing the red Northern Vengeance shield and blue protection shield to coexist exactly as they do when cast from two separate staves. The primary Deep North shield, original protection staff and donor prefabs remain unchanged; the borrowed bubble retains its live 60-eitr and 40%-current-health cost.
- Retired Charred Root completely after its visual direction failed acceptance.
TearboundTrollstavis no longer registered as an item or recipe and all of its player-facing configuration and documentation have been removed. Its internal Trollstav-delivery utility remains solely because the accepted Greydwarf Warband scroll reuses that isolated mechanism. - Added the final Deep North Caller-derived trio:
TiaraOfAgony,ForestSinew, andForestGreaves. Their base recipes total exactly 100 Frost Cores and 1000 Sap, they retain the live Caller's 22 + 2-per-quality armour/eitr profile, upgrade through quality four, and inherit every quality-aware Rootbound set rule—including the 72% stature—without allowing mixed-set completion. - Added the Caller trio's exclusive +50 Jump effect at every complete-set quality; the inherited +50 Sneak remains a fourth-growth reward.
- Added
MossyCarpet, an optional deadened Cape of the Caller conversion with its own four-quality upgrade ladder that does not impose a fourth-piece set requirement. - Added
RootboundCommunionMead, brewed directly at a level-five Cauldron from 10 Lingonberries, 5 Kale Seeds, and 20 Sap. Consumption instantly tames the nearest ordinarily tameable creature inside twenty metres and refuses to waste itself when no valid creature is present. - Replaced Frosted Root's Eikthyr secondary with the exact Deep North
TrollFrostsnow-timber pattern: four massive logs across two bursts at a 0.2-second interval. Each log uses Frosted Root's visible quality-aware packet in a five-metre impact; the donor projectile's hidden troll damage is stripped. - Made exact-quality Caller and Mossy Carpet upgrade prices survive Jötunn's recipe/requirement cloning by carrying a private marker through the clone. The crafting UI now exposes the documented non-zero Frost Core and Sap price at every growth.
- Corrected the Frost Troll timber transplant's near-ground failure. Its donor
+10launch angle was downward under the player staff coordinate convention; the barrage now fires directly through the reticle from a raised origin with a narrow 0.06-metre moving collision sweep, while retaining the full-size logs and five-metre impacts.
1.2.2
- Added a dedicated transparent Draconic Crook inventory portrait, rendered from the accepted in-game staff close-up and embedded alongside the existing Rootbound staff-icon family.
- Opened the Draconic Crook to four growths. Every upgrade adds 10 damage to each channel already authored by the corresponding Fader attack: fissure fire/spirit, meteor impact blunt/fire, and aftermath fire/spirit. The attack ledger now reports the current quality's real packet.
- Made Fader himself the progression gate: the base staff now requires two Fader trophies and fifteen Fader Embers, while each later growth consumes another trophy plus escalating Embers. A quality-four Draconic Crook certifies five Fader victories.
- Fixed quality-four armour disappearing specifically for non-Rootbound observers. An observer's inactive local transformation no longer clears the shared presentation cache after the remote permafrost phenotype is applied.
- Made the replicated full-set tier a redundant witness for remote armour colour, preventing the crown, stature and body from disagreeing when one presentation-only network value arrives late.
- Made Greydwarf kinship consume that same owner-authored full-set tier on the peer currently controlling creature AI. Frozen Deep North Greydwarfs, ordinary variants, Brutes and Shamans no longer lose the alliance merely because zone ownership moved to a machine that could not reconstruct the wearer's custom equipment data.
- Added a fourth-growth full-set bonus of +50 Sneak through a short-lived, equipment-bound status effect that is removed immediately when the permafrost set is broken.
1.2.1
- Reworked the Draconic Crook's cloned Frost-staff energy into a nearly translucent draugr-rot green, eliminating the opaque lime bloom without touching the vanilla Staff of Frost.
- Made every Fader fissure and every meteor in a barrage reacquire the caster's live reticle, allowing both fields to be steered throughout their cast cadence.

DraconicCrook, an endgame Staff-of-Frost conversion carrying Fader's two unscaled live attacks. Primary deploys the exact 12-15-stageFader_Fissure_AOEsequence at camera LOS: green-flamed grausten eruptions with the authored 120 fire + 80 spirit packet, four-second emergence and fifteen-second lifetime. Secondary recreatesspawn_fader_meteors: ten genuine Fader meteors scattered across fifteen metres from ninety metres overhead at 30 m/s, each retaining its 40 blunt + 120 fire impact and 80 fire + 80 spirit wall-of-fire aftermath. - Isolated every Draconic Crook renderer material before applying the Fader-green conversion, disabled only the cloned ice-staff upgrade controller, and wrapped construction in the existing source snapshot/restore audit. Vanilla
StaffIceShardsmaterials, particles, lights, attack data and prefab hierarchy remain untouched. - Added a level-four Galdr-table recipe gated behind one Staff of Frost, one Fader trophy, ten Fader Embers, three Jade and 65 Refined Eitr. The weapon has one quality so Fader's live damage cannot drift through an upgrade curve; its configurable casts cost 95 eitr and 140 eitr respectively.
1.1.3
- Deferred the Galdr Charter's meat-to-Sap catalogue until Jötunn finishes registering every loaded item and recipe. The reclamation layer now sees vanilla meat as well as compatible content supplied by Warfare, Valheim Armory, Southsil Armor and other item mods instead of completing its scan against an empty early ObjectDB.
1.1.2
- Enabled Valheim's native per-projectile-burst resource accounting for Rootbound Fang. Every successfully released rot-arrow now costs exactly 35 eitr; drawing and cancelling the bow does not spend it, and an unaffordable shot is suppressed by the live engine.
1.1.1
- Restored Charred Root's secondary to the complete live GoblinKing/Yagluth meteor presentation: ten meteors descend from 50 metres at 30 m/s, half a second apart, across a fifteen-metre field. The projectile and damage packet remain the accepted genuine Yagluth asset and twice-primary payload.
- Kept Rootbound Fang's wooden bow geometry fully opaque while restricting the translucent draugr-rot treatment to its magical particles, trails and projectile.
- Preserved the accepted Rootbound Morgen implementation without alteration.
1.1.0
- Expanded every Frosted Root Moder shard to 125 frost + 85 pierce + 65 spirit and migrated the stock impact radius from 3.75 to 6 metres. The Eikthyr secondary now launches its seed at 52 m/s with an eight-second lifetime, preserving the five-target chain while replacing its short shotgun reach with a true ranged cast.
- Added
RootboundFang, an ammunition-free conversion of the live Ashlands Root Fang. Each quality-one shot costs 35 eitr and delivers a narrow rot-dark projectile carrying 100 poison, 100 spirit and 75 pierce; each growth adds 10 to all three channels. - Recast the save-compatible
TearboundTrollstavitem as Charred Root. Its accepted red Obliterator primary remains intact, while secondary now pays 220 eitr and 25% of current health to drop eight genuine Yagluth meteors across twelve metres, each carrying twice the complete quality-aware primary damage packet. - Added the Galdr-Charter-only
RootboundMorgenScroll. Its exact recipe is 30 Morgen Sinew, 50 Rotten Meat, 30 Refined Eitr and 100 Sulfur; it summons one owner-bound level-three Morgen, refunds duplicate attempts, removes all drops and recalls through the established axe-strike secondary. - Changed the generated Rootbound Satchel definition from 80% carried weight to exactly 50%, making the storage organ halve the weight of every item placed inside it.
- Includes the unpublished 1.0.1 Greydwarf Brute/Shaman kinship and Frosted Root Deflector-Shield repairs.
1.0.1
- Extended Greydwarf kinship through the live Brute and Shaman prefab hierarchies. Their AI components can sit below the owning
Character, so target retention and final attack gates now resolve the character root before applying the alliance. - Added an authoritative damage boundary for already-committed Greydwarf-family attacks. A full-set Rootbound wearer cannot be hurt by a late melee swing that began before the owning peer cleared its target.
- Removed the Frost Orb donor's inherited defensive attack-status payload from Frosted Root. Moder shards retain their configured frost/pierce damage but no longer grant Deflector Shield to the enemies they hit.
1.0.0
- Promoted the fully playtested Rootbound Witch system to its first stable release after the complete armour progression, forest-alliance behavior, transformation cosmetics, plant-magic arsenal, mounted companions, summons, Galdr Charter crafting layer and restriction-led balance loop passed together in the Valheim 1.0 live mod profile.
- Includes the final pre-release repairs for the animated Overgrowth crown, the Greydwarf
HuntPlayerhostility bypass and Rootbound Shortcake's exact zero-health food payload. - Removed the tier-three ember particle layer after playtesting exposed its camera-space drift at long zoom. The Ashlands phenotype keeps its approved charred-walnut armour and crown without persistent screen-space fireflies.
0.4.24
- Repaired the Greydwarf alliance after Valheim's
HuntPlayerfallback bypassed the friendlyIsEnemyresult: allied Greydwarfs can no longer show green health bars while reacquiring and attacking a full-set Rootbound wearer. - Added authoritative retained-target, direct-target and final attack gates for the same kinship pair. Greydwarfs remain ordinary enemies to players without the full set and can still fight genuine enemies.
- Repaired Rootbound Shortcake's deliberate zero-health tradeoff. Valheim only invokes its food-slot machinery when a consumable grants positive health, so the Shortcake was removed from inventory without applying its 70 stamina and 120 eitr; Rootbound now routes that item through the normal
EatFoodpath and consumes it only after the food slot accepts it.
0.4.23
- Fixed the Overgrowth crown appearing roughly one foot below its accepted placement in both private worlds and live servers after Valheim's player-initialization timing changed. Crown construction and animated-bone binding now run only after the local and replicated player rigs receive their final 72% presentation scale, preventing the crown's already-contracted player-space position from being contracted a second time.
- Preserved every approved upper, lumbar and lower-branch mesh adjustment; this release changes presentation order only.
0.4.22
- Removed the tier-three red-eye presentation and its native-Hood/procedural fallback machinery. The accepted Ashlands phenotype is the 72%-scaled charred walnut armour, Overgrowth crown and restrained ember drift alone; package documentation now matches the implementation.
- Completed the multiplayer phenotype: remote clients now reconstruct quality-four white armour, frost-grey skin, ice-crystal accents and the equipped Rootbound Satchel from owner-authored network state instead of limiting those layers to the wearer.
- Hardened the 72% full-set stature against appearance mods such as Shapekeys and More. Rootbound now accepts another mod's finished visual scale as its baseline and applies its contraction exactly once in a late presentation pass, for local and remote wearers alike.
- Audited the package against Noah's
01a0900b-56ed-620c-2ded-6880cd0a416aValheim 1.0 profile, including Jotunn 2.30.0, Southsil Armor, Warfare, Hugo's Armory, Shapekeys and More, ExtraSlots, Backpacks and DvergerStaves.
0.4.21
-
Isolated all three Rootbound food registrations from one another and from the core item tree. A missing optional food or recipe can no longer suppress the Kvastur scroll, Charm, Wisp, Charter, or companion scrolls for the session.
-
Added a progression-safe Shortcake fallback for Valheim builds that expose Frosted Sweetbread before its recipe table: one live Frosted Sweetbread converts into one Rootbound Shortcake at a workbench, preserving the endgame ingredient gate without aborting registration.
-
Completed the Valheim 1.0 trader records for the Kvastur Scroll and Galdr Charter with explicit names, descriptions, icons, empty purchase effects and increment fields. The Bog Witch no longer exposes an inert serialized-placeholder offer at its
12345sentinel price when Rootbound's item tree is available. -
Applied Rootbound's one-time purchase recognition before injecting Bog Witch offers. Carrying or previously buying the Kvastur Scroll now hides its duplicate offer and reveals the Charter; owning the Charter likewise prevents it from being offered again.
-
Added Rootbound Shortcake as the Deep North food capstone, cloned from the live Frosted Sweetbread appearance and recipe gate: 0 health, 120 eitr, 70 stamina, 30-minute duration and no health regeneration.
-
Made both custom mount seats aware of the Rootbound full-set stature, lowering a 72% rider by 0.238 metres while leaving full-size riders unchanged.
-
Replaced the unsafe live Gjall vertex-centroid follower after it could select violently deforming appendage geometry and throw the rider around the screen. The seat now samples the body once, resolves the weighted skeleton bone beneath it, and permanently inherits that stable animated transform without following particles or recalculating against moving mesh vertices.
-
Removed the experimental tier-three red-eye overlay entirely. The accepted Ashlands phenotype is now the charred walnut armour and restrained, stature-aware ember drift alone, with no auxiliary eye mesh or material left to leak into player visuals.
-
Corrected the 72% full-set crown fit: upper and lower growth sections now contract once around the player root before being bound to their animated torso bones, preventing the shoulder crown from floating at its former full-height position.
-
Seated the upper crown's back-contact roots into the torso and independently lifted the detached central lower branch without disturbing the already-correct side and butt roots.
-
Seated the three isolated central spine branches further into the back while preserving the accepted shoulder fan.
-
Added a deeper lumbar seat exclusively to the two kidney-height spine roots; the accepted upper spine root is unchanged.
-
Made 72% visual stature an intrinsic complete-set phenotype instead of a general client preference. Only living players wearing the Rootbound Mask, Harness and Leggings are resized; ordinary mod users stay vanilla-sized. The separately attached Overgrowth crown uses renderer-centred scaling so its distant mesh pivot cannot drag it down and backward.
-
Replaced the four inherited Surtling-staff inventory icons with distinct transparent portraits derived from the accepted in-game tips: living rot for Rootbound Crook, crystalline white for Frosted Root, campfire-gold fungus for Mycelial Crook, and a hollow black-red silhouette for Tearbound Trollstav. The vanilla staff icon remains untouched.
-
Preserved Eikthyr's complete lightning presentation on a successful Frosted Root hit. The impact now restarts a detached, visual-only copy at the struck enemy, so destroying the projectile can no longer truncate the large shockwave while misses play normally.
-
Replaced the Mycelial Crook's harsh synthetic-yellow room light with the live vanilla campfire's warm colour, intensity, shadow and falloff profile. Its default illumination radius is now 60 metres, while the mushroom itself keeps a softened yellow identity and the established 30-second light expiry.
-
Converted Frosted Root's Eikthyr secondary into a true hostile chain. Its damage is now the primary shard's exact quality-aware 125 frost + 85 pierce packet remapped to lightning + spirit; the direct target plus two jumps are guaranteed, followed by a 75% fourth and conditional 50% fifth within 18 metres.
-
Retired the standalone Crookbound Root and folded its useful halves back into the original design. Rootbound Crook retains its accepted three-projectile primary and now fires the Elder-derived 25-vine, 0.1-second LOS-tracking barrage as its secondary; both modes explicitly deal the same 80 blunt + 80 poison per projectile before quality growth.
-
Moved the 24-root brown arena field into the complete armour set. An enemy damaging the locally authoritative wearer while they are overencumbered triggers the field once per configurable 30-second interval, using the armour's current minimum quality for its damage ladder.
-
Doubled the retaliation TentaRoots' base health. Their existing 25-metre placement, 30-second lifetime, ally protection and 20% outgoing-damage life return remain intact.
-
Bound the projectile target and impact Harmony arguments by ordinal instead of unstable metadata names. Valheim 1.0.7 abbreviates
Projectile.IsValidTarget's argument todestr; the previous descriptive patch name caused Harmony to reject the complete patch set during startup. -
Added a configurable 3.75-metre hostile impact radius to every falling Frosted Root Moder shard. The native needle-sized projectile still handles a creature struck directly, while the splash excludes that direct target to prevent one shard from applying its 125 frost + 85 pierce packet twice.
-
Restored the Tearbound Trollstav's four-quality upgrade path. Every growth adds 10 to lightning, fire, spirit, blunt and pierce, and the item tooltip, manually resolved hostile-character hits and structure-impact packet now use the same quality ladder.
-
Gave Tearbound trolls the Greydwarf meteor passenger's five-second arrival shield, preventing their own delivery impact from consuming roughly half their health before combat begins.
-
Kept the first of the established 24 strikes guaranteed at exact LOS and made only the caster's own Tearbound trolls valid targets for that storm and the caster's ordinary projectiles. All other player, pet and allied-summon safety remains intact.
-
Added a growth-two habitat field to the complete Rootbound set. It contributes +20 comfort once to the wearer and every player inside the existing 50-metre social radius; multiple Rootbound sources deliberately do not stack.
-
Made a complete minimum-quality-two set immune to the Wet status. The environment update removes Wet immediately rather than concealing its icon while leaving the regeneration penalties active.
-
Added the Ashlands quality-three phenotype: armour and the equipped Overgrowth crown char to dark walnut and carry a restrained low-density ember drift. Quality four extinguishes and removes that entire state before the established white permafrost materials and crystal accents take over.
-
Replaced the unreadable synthetic tier-three ember geometry with a trimmed clone of Valheim's own ember particle system, retaining the game's valid particle-stream/material contract while reducing it to a sparse body-and-crown drift.
-
Moved only the crown's lower split 0.11 metres inward before its hip-bone bind, closing the remaining seated butt gap without disturbing the accepted upper crown or animation inheritance.
-
Rebuilt the Tearbound Trollstav head as a true replacement ornament: the Rootbound Crook dead core is removed first, all copied particle, trail, line and light components are discarded, and the surviving Trollstav head mesh is forced opaque dead red instead of rendering as a translucent cloud above a second core.
-
Published armour phenotype and exact support tier through owner-authored player ZDO fields so other clients can render the charred state and calculate the non-stacking comfort field consistently.
-
Fixed an early-registry failure where the optional Tearbound Trollstav required
piece_incineratorbefore Valheim exposed that location prefab, causing every later Rootbound item—including the Charm and Wisp—to appear missing. The staff now resolves the genuine lightning AOE by full soft-reference path, and optional capstone failure can no longer abort core item registration. -
Added
TearboundTrollstav, a Deep North capstone made from the Rootbound Crook frame and the live Trollstav's glow-head geometry recoloured as a dull, dead-red crown. -
Its primary attack places the first of 24 genuine Obliterator lightning effects exactly at LOS before distributing the remainder across the surrounding 25-metre field, recolours them red, and delivers 150 lightning + 150 fire + 75 spirit + 50 blunt + 50 pierce per impact for 110 eitr at quality one. Character damage is hostile-only except for the caster's own Tearbound trolls; the caster, allied players, all other pets and summons remain protected. One native impact shell retains the same quality-aware packet against environment objects and built structures.
-
Its secondary retains the live Trollstav delivery graph but rewrites the terminal SpawnAbility to create one owner-bound flameless allied skeletal troll. Trolls now stack without a living-singleton ceiling; every cast costs 75 eitr plus 75% of the caster's current health, leaving one quarter of whatever health existed before the cast. Every troll has no drops, never aggros its caster, respects the shared 15-metre companion boundary, and remains manually killable.
-
Added the exact capstone recipe at Galdr-table level four: 3 Bell Fragments, 3 Bloodstones, 3 Iolite, 10 Thunderstones, 10 Black Cores, 65 Refined Eitr and 25 Yagluth Drops.
-
Replaced the automatic full-set Bog Witch crown with the optional shoulder-slot
RootboundOvergrowth. It removes the Lox-cape cloth geometry while retaining frost protection, follows the Rootbound biome upgrade ladder, and bleaches white at quality four. -
Changed crown replication to publish the equipped item's absent/ordinary/permafrost state instead of inferring crown visibility from the three-piece armour set. The cape remains optional and does not become a fourth kinship requirement.
-
Gated rooted health restoration behind having no weapon in either hand. Rooting, its minimum hold, and the ordinary uproot controls remain active while armed; only the regenerative reward is withheld.
-
Replaced Frosted Root's defensive freezing field secondary with a strong aimed Eikthyr antler shockwave. It uses Crookbound Root's proven player-camera LOS contract, deals 220 lightning plus 20 per quality, costs 65 eitr, and leaves the validated six-shard Moder primary unchanged.
-
Set each Frosted Root Moder shard's quality-one baseline explicitly to 125 frost + 85 pierce. Higher qualities retain the established +20 frost per growth; the independent lightning secondary does not inherit this mixed damage.
-
Rebased the Petrified Root Pick and Petrified Root Axe onto the live Blackmetal Pickaxe and Blackmetal Axe damage and durability curves. Their accepted non-metal models, recipes, universal harvesting clearance and four-growth progression remain unchanged, but black marble and Yggdrasil wood no longer require starter-tool quantities of repeated hits.
-
Made Kvastur, Charter Abomination and Rootbound Moder strict per-owner living singletons. A duplicate primary summon is refused with exact eitr reimbursement; secondary recall remains the deliberate way to retire the active companion.
-
Added the Charter-only
RootboundGreydwarfWarbandScroll: each primary cast summons ten ordinary level-three Greydwarfs and intentionally stacks, while each axe-strike secondary kills at most the ten nearest regular Greydwarfs inside 50 metres. -
Left warband faction identity untouched. The ordinary enemy Greydwarfs become allies only through the existing full-set forest-kinship relationship, preserving the intended equipment dependency and risk.
-
Replaced the Greydwarf Muster's quiet direct instantiation with ten genuine flaming Trollstav meteor deliveries. Every terminal spawn node in the cloned projectile graph is audited and rewritten to produce exactly one level-three Greydwarf, with no remaining path to the vanilla troll.
-
Added a five-second arrival shield exclusively to meteor-delivered muster Greydwarfs, preventing the Trollstav impact from killing its own passengers. The shield then expires completely and leaves ordinary killable creatures.
-
Added
TearboundTrollstavto the Valheim 1.0.7 reclaimed-world-item shell repair, restoring pickup interaction and preventing the dropped staff from floodingPlayer.AutoPickupwith null-reference errors. -
Added the Charter-only
RootboundGjallAerostatScroll, crafted from ten Gjall trophies, 40 refined eitr and a consumed Rootbound Wisp. It binds one owner-exclusive, half-scale Gjall with no drops and strict singleton recall. -
Fitted the miniature Gjall with a networked Aerostat Yoke derived from Valheim's live saddle machinery. Horizontal mount controls fly at a deliberate 3.5 m/s; held Use ascends, held Crouch descends, Jump dismounts and mounted primary attack commands the native Gjall fireball.
-
Lowered the Gjall yoke and rider by half a world metre from the original high-but-stable placement. The experimental deforming-bone attachment was reverted after it displaced the rider and broke control; the proven
Visual/Armature/Rootmount frame remains authoritative while a safer animation treatment is investigated separately. -
Narrowed the Crookbound Root primary vines again, from 12% to 7.5% of the Elder projectile's original cross-section, while preserving their full length, face-level origin, cadence and damage.
-
Prevented the mounted Gjall's autonomous AI from taking over between rider inputs and kept all altitude and attack intent owner-authoritative for multiplayer replication.
-
Guarded inventory-only item prefabs that retain a
ZSyncTransformafter losing theirZNetView. This removes the harmless but alarming red exceptions emitted once per saved Smoothbrain/Rootbound backpack during player inventory reconstruction, without changing valid networked world items. -
Retained the validated 0.4.20 Living Yoke combat controls: mounted primary/right trigger performs the native Abomination arm sweep and mounted secondary/right bumper performs its centered ground smash.
-
Added
CrookboundRoot, a fourth reclaimed staff whose equipped model is the completely bare Surtling-staff branch: no live core, dead core, mushroom, carried light or added overgrowth. -
Its primary cast reproduces the Elder's native cadence as 25 green
gdking_root_projectilevines at 0.1-second intervals from the moving staff-tip origin. The player-safe continuation survives the shorter humanoid casting animation without using the failed sky-redirection geometry. -
Its secondary cast raises a 25-metre, 24-root field of allied brown Elder TentaRoots around the caster. Root placement uses a low-clumping sunflower distribution, roots expire after 30 seconds, carry no drops and are created only by the authoritative player.
-
Both attacks inherit the Rootbound Crook's quality-aware damage ladder. Every primary vine returns 4 health on contact; field-root attacks return 20% of outgoing damage, while stale tame-transition targets are explicitly prevented from harming allies.
-
Added the progression-chain recipe: one Mycelial Crook, one Swamp Key, one Wishbone and 30 refined eitr at base quality, followed by the Rootbound Crook's exact Mistlands/Ashlands/Deep North upgrade material ladder.
0.4.20
- Made the Charter Abomination commandable from its Living Yoke. Mounted primary attack/right trigger now equips and performs the live
Abomination_attack1arm sweep; mounted secondary attack/right bumper performs the liveAbomination_attack3centered ground smash. - Added an owner-authoritative mounted-attack RPC so the controlling client submits intent once and the creature's network owner starts the native synchronized attack.
- Consumed mounted primary/secondary inputs before Valheim's generic saddle dismount branch. Jump remains the explicit ordinary dismount control.
- Selected the original Abomination attack items from its runtime inventory, preserving vanilla animation, hit geometry, damage, effects and natural in-animation attack gate instead of approximating either move.
0.4.19
- Corrected the Rootbound Satchel's final upgrade ingredient from the nonexistent case-sensitive prefab name
Frostcoreto Valheim 1.0.7's liveFrostCoreprefab. The three harmless missing-item warnings are removed and the Deep North satchel upgrade now resolves normally. - Raised the required
ADARC-BackpacksValheim1Compatdependency to the tested 1.0.4 release.
0.4.18
- Added the Living Yoke to the Charter Abomination by fitting Valheim's live generic saddle controller to its rendered body. The Charter bearer can mount and steer the summoned Abomination with ordinary riding controls.
- Added the missing
Tameablehost component to the vanilla Abomination clone before fitting the yoke. Vanilla Abominations do not carry one, and faction taming alone cannot expose a saddle interaction. - Routed ordinary interaction on the Abomination's large body collider directly into the Living Yoke, while preserving alternate-use naming. The hover prompt now advertises the yoke instead of misleading the owner with a pet action.
- Matched the Harmony body-interaction patch to the live runtime's
user/holdparameter names; the on-disk metadata retained older names and caused the first 0.4.18 test build to stop during patch registration. - Removed the experimental repeated saddle initializer after live diagnostics proved the cloned controller was already bound correctly; repeated RPC registration had produced a continuous duplicate-key exception stream.
- Local and host-owned Charter Abominations now enter the exact mounted-control state directly, while remote-owned companions retain Valheim's normal saddle RPC path.
- Localized the Living Yoke prompt through Valheim's input-token system so keyboard and controller bindings render as their actual
E/Acontrols instead of literalUseor$KEY_Usetext. - Replaced the cloned Lox's external saddle-bone reference with a dedicated seat anchor parented to the Charter Abomination. Mounting can no longer teleport the rider to the donor prefab's unrelated world position.
- Derived the rider's local seat height from the Abomination's physical capsule instead of its extreme branch-renderer bounds, eliminating the functional but fifty-foot-high mount position.
- Removed the branch silhouette's asymmetric lateral and posterior centroid from the fallback seat calculation. The validated height is retained at the creature's true
X=0, Z=0locomotion centerline. - Reparented both the visible Living Yoke and its rider seat to a central bone from the Abomination's live skinned-mesh rig while preserving their accepted world position. Rider and saddle now inherit body sway instead of behaving like a stabilized camera platform.
- Bound yoke control to the companion's synchronized Charter owner ID, blocked alternate-interaction removal, and suspended the 15-metre follow hold while the creature has a rider.
- Made the Bog Witch branch crown visible on remote players. The owning client now publishes a compact none/rootbound/permafrost visual state through its player ZDO, and every peer maintains crown instances against the animated torso of each loaded player.
0.4.17
- Fixed the actual multiplayer companion multiplication mechanism.
ZNetScene.SpawnObjectbroadcasts an independentInstantiateoperation to every connected peer; using it for aZNetViewcreature created one companion per client plus one on the dedicated server. - Kvastur, Charter Abomination and Rootbound Moder now instantiate exactly once on the locally authoritative client. Their single network identity then replicates normally through Valheim instead of every peer constructing a separate ownerless enemy.
- Retained the 0.4.16 per-attack transaction gate as an independent guard against repeated animation callbacks.
0.4.16
- Added a one-shot transaction gate keyed to Valheim's per-input cloned
Attackobject for Kvastur, Charter Abomination and Rootbound Moder summon/recall actions. - Repeated
Attack.DoMeleeAttackcallbacks from one animation can no longer repeatRecall -> QueueSpawn -> SpawnObject; later genuine inputs remain immediate because Valheim creates a freshAttackclone for each input. - Added compact accepted/duplicate-suppressed transaction fingerprints to the BepInEx log for dedicated-server verification.
- Retained the local-player and network-owner authority check as an independent second boundary.
0.4.15
- Extended the upgrade-overlay removal to the live vanilla
StaffFireball. Its ordinary orange core, flames and authored point light remain intact; only the delayed quality-four green overlay is suppressed. - Added an immediate
VisEquipment.UpdateEquipmentVisualspostfix so character-selection and in-world equipment attachments cannot reactivateUpgraderGlowafter their draw animation.
0.4.14
- Identified the delayed green mask as StaffFireball's inherited
UpgraderGlowquality controller. The pristine component owns the exact observed green gradient and re-enables a point light at up to intensity 2.5 immediately after draw. - Reclaimed staves now deactivate the complete
UpgraderGlowhierarchy. This removes the controller rather than racing its per-frame light writes. - Removed the temporary scene-wide diagnostic audit; the genuine vanilla Staff of Embers retains its authored upgrade controller unchanged.
0.4.13
- Compared
StaffFireballagainst the pristine Valheim 1.0.7 SoftRef asset. Its real carried light is orange; the reported green is the exactstaff_greenroots_projectilelight borrowed by the Crook spell architecture. - Added a clean-asset guard which restores StaffFireball's two lights and four carried particle palettes to their authored values.
- Derived Crooks now have escaped carried point lights suppressed at runtime, including menu preview equipment.
- Any surviving root-green light reports its complete hierarchy path, intensity, and range to the BepInEx log.
0.4.12
- Rebuilt all three reclaimed staves from explicitly isolated prefab hierarchies with private renderer materials before Jotunn registration. Rootbound visual treatment can no longer leak through a shared material reference into the vanilla Staff of Embers or a third-party Surtling Staff on the start screen.
- Deepened the source-prefab restoration guard to restore the properties, shader keywords and render queue of every original material, rather than restoring only the renderer's material-array references.
0.4.11
- Fixed multiplayer Mycelial Crook multiplication. Replicated projectile-burst callbacks now pass through the same local-owner authority gate as companion summons, so one primary or secondary cast creates exactly one networked mushroom instead of one per connected peer.
- This also restores the intended yellow-mushroom brightness on multiplayer servers: only one 30-second room light now exists at the planting point.
0.4.10
- Removed the Mycelial Crook's redundant carried point light. Its crown remains visibly emissive, while room-scale illumination remains exclusively on planted yellow mushrooms and expires after thirty seconds as designed.
- Added a source-prefab visual preservation boundary around every reclaimed-staff build. Original staff renderers, materials, lights, particle settings, names and hierarchy are restored before registration finishes, preventing any Rootbound treatment from contaminating the vanilla Staff of Embers or a third-party Surtling Staff source.
0.4.9
- Fixed multiplayer companion multiplication: replicated
Attack.DoMeleeAttackcallbacks could previously make every connected peer spawn its own Kvastur, Charter Abomination or Rootbound Moder. Summon and recall transactions now execute only on the locally controlled owner of the attacking player network object. - Preserved the owner ID, tame/follow setup, one-companion replacement rule and ordinary network replication for the single authoritative creature.
0.4.8
- Added
PetrifiedRootPick, an Antler Pickaxe body whose pale antler is converted into walnut-brown petrified root. - Added
PetrifiedRootAxe, a Bronze Axe silhouette whose blade is converted into non-metallic corewood with restrained wood grain. - Both tools have universal harvesting clearance from first growth so a solo full-set witch can obtain later-biome wood and ore without equipping forged metal. Their harvesting damage and durability still advance across four biome-material upgrades rather than beginning as instant endgame weapons.
- Added a synchronized harvesting-tier configuration value, defaulting to 100 for compatibility with Deep North and modded materials.
0.4.7
- Split the rigid Bog Witch branch crown into upper and lower triangle regions at the wearer's waist. The accepted upper composition remains bound to the animated back/torso anchor, while the butt-level sticks now bind to the animated hips/lower spine so sitting and crouching cannot leave the lower growth floating behind the body.
0.4.6
- Rebound the accepted Bog Witch branch crown from the non-animated player root to Valheim's animated back attachment, with humanoid upper-chest/chest/spine fallbacks. Its accepted standing composition is preserved during the transfer, then breathing, running, crouching and attack motion carry it with the torso and backpack.
0.4.5
- Added an isolated branch-crown experiment that extracts only branch/root/twig/bark/vine/wood submeshes from the live Bog Witch prefab, normalizes them onto the complete-set wearer's back, carries no NPC rig or behaviour, and joins the quality-four permafrost conversion.
- Exposed branch-crown width, height, vertical placement and back offset as configuration values so live alignment can be tuned without rewriting the extraction.
- Added a full-kinship consequence for personally killing a creature whose live drop table contains meat: Running and Jumping each lose five levels by default. Creatures remain ordinarily killable with any weapon.
- Corrected Mycelial Crook targeting so a directly aimed surface is authoritative and an overhead tree canopy or roof cannot steal the planted mushroom.
0.4.4
- Silenced Rootbound Moder's repetitive idle vocal opportunity while she is resting or following; her original voice is restored when alerted or attacking, without muting attack, injury or death sounds.
- Added the Galdr Charter's live recipe-graph reclamation layer: raw animal materials and every compatible food made from them can be converted stationlessly at one item into one Sap.
- Counter-tinted Valheim's warm base skin texture so full quality-four armour resolves to visibly neutral rotten-grey flesh instead of merely darkening the player's ordinary skin tone.
- Made both Mycelial Crook attacks use the same primary throwing animation and removed their large centre-screen planting announcements.
- Retained the validated 15-metre Moder following boundary, world-scale mushroom casting and clean coreless Mycelial staff body in this rollback checkpoint.
0.4.3
- Applied the Charter Abomination's exact configurable minimum follow distance to Rootbound Moder, preventing the flying companion from crowding its owner.
- Removed the generated dark-walnut constriction mesh and sprouts from the Mycelial Crook while retaining its reclaimed Surtling-staff body, deleted core and aligned yellow mushroom crown.
- Expanded Mycelial Crook placement targeting to the same 4,096-metre world-scale ray used by Frosted Root, with a 512-metre unobstructed fallback.
- Replaced the ineffective stored-colour approach with a reversible live-renderer skin pass: every exposed
_SkinColormaterial is forced to neutral rotten grey during full tier-four wear and restored afterward without modifying saved character appearance.
0.4.2
- Fixed Rootbound Moder's second registration failure by deferring
MonsterAI.SetDespawnInDayuntil the spawned companion has awakened; dormant boss prefabs do not yet possess the live network state that method expects. - Added stage-labelled full exception logging around Moder resolution, cloning, configuration and network registration so any further live-build incompatibility identifies its exact boundary.
- Expanded both Mycelial Crook planting attacks to the same 4,096-metre world-scale aim query and 512-metre clear-sky fallback as Frosted Root.
- Replaced the healthy blue skin tint with a drained near-grayscale frostbite value and now drives Valheim's actual
VisEquipmentskin-colour field reversibly, in addition to the material and renderer-property safeguards.
0.4.1
- Fixed the Moder companion registration crash caused by Moder's null vanilla drop table; the companion clone is now committed only after successful network-prefab registration and can resolve the live Dragon through multiple Valheim 1.0 asset identities.
- Moved Rootbound Wisp registration ahead of the optional companion layer so a companion fault cannot erase the Wisp from devcommands or recipes.
- Rebuilt the Mycelial Crook crown on the Crook's measured shaft-axis frame, normalized it to a visible world-space size, and removed mixed-material dead-core remnants instead of only hiding core-only renderers.
- Limited each planted yellow mushroom's point light to 30 seconds and extinguished it immediately when the mushroom is picked; the harvestable mushroom remains persistent.
- Changed Frosted Root's secondary into a true self-centred freezing ward with no cursor-positioned green remnant.
- Expanded Frosted Root's primary target query from the former 45-metre ceiling to a world-scale 4,096-metre ray while retaining its 20-metre sky drop.
- Hardened the tier-four frostbite skin through both material and renderer-property paths, restored a clearly blue-grey but lighter skin value, deepened snow texture contrast, and moved larger vanilla-ice-material accents out of scaled armour attachment hierarchies.
0.4.0
- Removed the procedural Dverger hip-lantern experiment and replaced it with
RootboundWisp, a direct Wisplight continuation that preserves vanilla mist-clearing while adding +150 carry weight in the Utility slot beside the Trinket-slot charm. - Retired Frosted Root's unreliable camera-dependent Elder sky volley. Its secondary now reuses the proven Crook immobilization field, recoloured as ice and dealing the weapon's quality-aware frost damage instead of poison.
- Added explicit Rootbound Crook and Frosted Root tooltip ledgers with projectile count, per-projectile damage components, secondary damage, radius and immobilization duration at the inspected quality.
- Added the Charter-only
RootboundModerSigil, craftable stationlessly only after acquiring the Galdr Charter from one trophy from each Hildir trial; it controls one non-boss, owner-bound, weakened Moder with the proven axe-strike recall. - Lightened the full quality-four skin from black-blue to desaturated frost-grey blue and added restrained crystalline accents derived from the vanilla ice-staff material to break up the flat white permafrost silhouette.
- Added
MycelialCrook, a coreless yellow-mushroom-crowned staff that throws and plants persistent harvestable red mushrooms on primary and room-bright luminous yellow mushrooms on secondary.
0.3.0
- Added the independent
RootboundDvergerHipLanternutility item: a small low-poly hip cage driven by the live Dverger Circlet's light settings and suspended from the live Megingjord attachment contract. - Added a namespaced +150 maximum-carry-weight equipment effect. The lantern uses Valheim's Utility slot while the Rootbound Charm remains in the separate Trinket slot, allowing both effects and the full armour set to coexist.
- Added a workbench conversion recipe consuming one Dverger Circlet, four Fine Wood and eight Resin, without replacing either vanilla source item.
0.2.9
- Rebuilt both summon-item secondary attacks from a live one-handed axe's downward strike, giving right-bumper recall a real melee animation-event and input path instead of the incompatible staff-projectile trigger.
- Changed Kvastur and Charter Abomination recall from direct object deletion into owner-authoritative lethal execution followed by Valheim's ordinary character death and network cleanup; only the caller's matching custom companion is eligible and both summons retain empty drop tables.
- Removed the Frosted Root's collider-derived ceiling contraction and fixed every Moder and Elder projectile to a straight vertical descent from exactly 20 metres above its grounded target, independent of player look pitch or earlier roots in the volley.
0.2.8
- Reshaped Frosted Root's Elder projectile into a much narrower, longer falling root along its true travel axis, reduced its residual particle bulk and retained the exact 20-metre / 102-metre-per-second Moder descent contract.
- Reapplied the reversible Dverger-blue skin after Valheim's own equipment colour refresh so the full quality-four face, neck and hands no longer revert to their saved human colour.
- Replaced transient secondary-input detection with a durable attack signature for both summon items and added recovery for pending or nearby unclaimed custom summons, making secondary recall reliable.
- Moved the Charter Abomination's initial summon beyond its new 15-metre minimum follow distance and stopped its ordinary follow routine at that boundary.
- Preserved the Abomination's original stationary click-groans while suppressing only the repetitive idle-grunt opportunity during actual walking movement.
0.2.7
- Turned the purchased Rootbound Galdr Charter into a summon/recall controller for one independently owner-bound Charter Abomination while retaining its permanent hand-Galdr unlock.
- Cloned and strengthened only the summoned Abomination: two-star combat scaling, 4,800 target health, Mistlands vision, broad resistances, poison/spirit immunity, 20 health per second regeneration and no drops.
- Kept Kvastur and Abomination ownership slots independent; resummoning replaces only the same player's matching companion.
- Removed the failed procedural neck collar and replaced the peach human undertone with a reversible, material-only Dverger-blue skin state across the exposed face, neck and hands at full quality four.
- Raised the Frosted Root's Elder volley descent velocity to the same triple-speed value as the working Moder shard attack while retaining the 20-metre sky origin.
0.2.6
- Added a low-poly white permafrost root collar to cover the isolated player-neck gap without recolouring every exposed skin surface.
- Redirected Frosted projectiles during
Projectile.Setup, before their first rendered frame, eliminating the inherited line from character eye level to the sky. - Removed the Elder boss projectile's horizontal line/trail renderers and reduced its mesh and particles to player-readable scale while preserving the fifteen-shot white volley.
0.2.5
- Extended the quality-four full-set permafrost conversion to an equipped Rootbound Satchel through Smoothbrain Backpacks' public API.
- Fixed the Frosted Root primary cost at exactly 35 eitr for every weapon quality.
- Replaced the animation-bounded Frosted secondary burst with one initial Elder root plus fourteen owner-authoritative continuations at 0.5-second intervals.
- Recoloured the Frosted Root's complete Elder-root volley white with a restrained ice-blue shadow.
- Baked a dark-walnut pixel texture directly into the Crook's UV-less generated roots so Valheim's item shader no longer renders them as white geometry.
0.2.4
- Rebuilt both Frosted Root attacks from the complete live StaffFireball attack lifecycle, preserving its working projectile animation event while keeping the visible cast empty.
- Replaced null-backed empty effect lists with valid zero-entry effect tables so blank casting cannot silently abort before projectile release.
- Aligned Crook overgrowth to the dominant axis of the live held-staff mesh and reduced it to one equipped attachment, removing the detached perpendicular root branch.
- Rebuilt generated roots with an opaque non-emissive material so daylight and source-staff shaders cannot bleach them to luminous white.
- Changed quality-four Rootbound armour to a complete white permafrost conversion, including the attached root meshes and their diffuse textures rather than only the body layer beneath them.
0.2.3
- Moved generated Crook roots and sprouts beneath Valheim's equipped-item
attachtransform so the held model actually carries the overgrowth. - Made procedural root materials texture-independent; the constriction coil, knots, tendrils and sprouts can no longer be multiplied into invisibility by the source staff's dark texture.
- Replaced the Frosted Root's dark tint with a point-filtered snow texture and removed the marked Surtling-core renderer instead of displaying a dead core.
- Changed the Frosted Root to an empty fireball-cast gesture, raised both attacks to 20 metres and tripled their descent speed.
- Expanded the Frosted Root secondary into fifteen Elder root strikes at 0.5-second intervals with one resource payment.
- Changed each Rootbound Crook primary cast into three triangular roots, removed every health cost, and darkened its magic into translucent black-green mould dust.
- Restored the Kvastur Scroll to item and devcommand registration and added explicit loading for Valheim 1.0's soft-referenced living
BogWitchKvasturprefab.
0.2.2
- Moved static equipment eitr into Valheim's authoritative cached maximum so food updates no longer clamp and refill it in a visible 136-140 sawtooth.
- Made one rooted state persist while the player remains still. Movement can uproot it after the configured minimum hold, eliminating periodic take-root/release flashes.
- Replaced the secondary field's partial slow with an actively enforced immobilization and removed its orphaned
ZSyncTransform, allowing the visual to expire normally. - Restricted the Kvastur source lookup to a real networked character with
MonsterAIand moved summoning ontoZNetScene's network lifecycle with synchronized owner recovery and recall. - Added quality-four diffuse-texture generation for the chest and legs, plus the existing attached-mesh tint, so permafrost changes the equipped armour rather than only displaying a cold aura.
- Recoloured the Crook's separately cloned Staff of the Wild projectile and root field to muted draugr-rot green without changing the vanilla prefab.
- Rebuilt the Crook body as visibly consumed wood: a low-poly constricting root helix, irregular knots, three tapered tendrils and enlarged sprouts now overgrow the dead Surtling staff.
- Added the Frosted Root as the Crook's snowbound Deep North continuation, with live Moder ice shards and an Elder root projectile redirected downward from above the aimed point, Deep North baseline damage and +20 frost damage per upgrade.
0.2.1
- Removed redundant registration of the plugin's default BepInEx configuration. Jotunn 2.29.2 already synchronizes default mod configs and rejects registering the same file a second time.
0.2.0
- Added a persistent Kvastur-purchase recognition key.
- Added the Bog Witch's Rootbound Galdr Charter as a second gated trade.
- Added stationless personal-inventory aliases for the highest-level recipes in the live Galdr-table recipe set while preserving canonical recipes and ingredient costs.
- Added possession-based key recovery for spawned or pre-existing Kvastur scrolls and charters.
0.1.0
- First bounded trial build for Valheim 1.0.
- Added the four-growth Rootbound armour set and biome-exact upgrade ladder.
- Added greydwarf kinship, quality-two Dverger hostility, the shared-stamina aura, and one midair re-jump.
- Added static eitr, quality-aware eitr regeneration, environmental regeneration, rooting, and transformation restrictions.
- Added the reclaimed Rootbound Crook with the live Staff of the Wild primary attack and a poison/ensnare secondary field.
- Added the Rootbound Charm: +40 Elemental Magic, +40 Blood Magic, +40 eitr, feather fall, and seven-minute Forsaken-power recovery.
- Added the conditional Bog Witch Kvastur scroll with one owned summon per player and secondary recall.
- Added a Rootbound Satchel through Smoothbrain Backpacks 1.3.8's external-YAML interface.
