README

Glider

Current release: 0.1.10 (prototype)

Glider adds a rugged wood-and-canvas Glider to Valheim. Carry it in your inventory, leap from a height, and press Jump again while airborne to deploy it. The Glider drains stamina while flying, lets you accelerate or brake in the air, and can ride rising air above active fires.

Features

  • Craftable Glider with its own inventory icon and dropped-world model.
  • Deploy in midair by pressing Jump; press Jump again to close it.
  • W / Forward accelerates toward the configured maximum speed.
  • S / Back brakes without reversing your flight direction.
  • Gliding uses stamina over time.
  • Active campfires, hearths, and bonfires create updrafts that lift you and restore stamina while you remain in the rising air.
  • Procedural raised-arm pose while gliding.
  • Optional wind trails and a local flight-speed readout.
  • Configurable flight speed, sink rate, stamina drain, thermal height/radius/lift, and visual settings.

Crafting

Craft at a level 3 Workbench using:

  • 20 Wood
  • 10 Feathers
  • 6 Deer Hide
  • 8 Leather Scraps
  • 2 Surtling Cores

Discovering the required materials unlocks the recipe normally.

Installation

Thunderstore / r2modman / Gale

Install the package normally through your mod manager. BepInExPack Valheim is declared as a dependency and should be installed automatically.

Manual

Install BepInExPack Valheim, then place Glider.dll in:

Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/Glider/

Do not keep an older KiteGlider.dll installed at the same time.

Controls

  1. Carry a Glider in your inventory.
  2. Jump or fall so you are airborne.
  3. Press Jump again to deploy the Glider.
  4. Use your normal movement controls to steer.
  5. Hold W / Forward to accelerate.
  6. Hold S / Back to brake.
  7. Press Jump again to close the Glider.

The Glider will also stop when normal flight conditions are no longer valid, such as landing.

Configuration

A BepInEx config file is generated after first launch. Current tuning includes settings for:

  • Stamina drain
  • Cruise and maximum speed
  • Forward acceleration
  • Braking speed/deceleration
  • Descent rate
  • Fire updraft height, radius, lift, and stamina recovery
  • Wind trails
  • Flight readout
  • Raised-arm pose
  • Glider visual offset and scale

The internal plugin GUID remains angell.kiteglider for compatibility with the current prototype line.

Current prototype status

Version 0.1.10 uses the current tested prototype behavior and embedded model/icon. This remains an early prototype, so multiplayer/dedicated-server behavior and some visual details still need broader testing.

If something goes sideways, keep the latest LogOutput.log — it is extremely useful for tracking down glider gremlins.

Developer test command

With Valheim devcommands enabled, the legacy console command kite adds one Glider for testing.

  • Removed the embedded helper-DLL resource from the final release assembly.
  • Kept the 0.1.25 Windstone recipe: 10 Wood, 20 Stone, 2 Surtling Cores, 10 Greydwarf Eyes.
  • Preserved configurable power tiers, top-rune power indicators, side-light angle indicators, model, placement, ZDO/RPC behavior and flight logic.

0.1.25

  • Updated Windstone Launch Pad recipe to 10 Wood, 20 Stone, 2 Surtling Cores, and 10 Greydwarf Eyes.
  • Greydwarf Eyes are recoverable when dismantling the Windstone, matching the other recipe ingredients.
