RIDING BEARS!
Tame a bear, saddle it, and ride it. Take a friend along on the back.
What it does
- Bears can be tamed. Drop food nearby and keep your distance, the same way you would tame a wolf. Blueberries, honey, raw meat and deer meat by default.
- Tamed bears can be ridden. Craft a saddle, put it on, and climb aboard.
- A second player can ride along behind the rider, which is what makes a bear worth taming in a co-op game: one drives, the other gets carried.
- The bear fights and jumps on command while you are on its back.
Getting a bear
Tame a bear with food, then craft a Bjorn saddle at a level 4 Workbench:

Use the saddle on the tamed bear, then look at the front of the saddle and use it to mount.

Nothing else dismounts: attacking, jumping and dodging leave you where you are, unlike a vanilla mount.
Riding two up
Look at the back of the saddle and use it to be carried as a passenger. A passenger does not steer, takes no fall damage, and stays seated even when the rider gets off - handy for ferrying somebody who has just respawned. Use it again to get off.
Everything works in multiplayer, and a saddled bear stays saddled across saves. Every player on the server needs the mod, at the same version.
Configuration
Under [General]: what bears eat, how long taming takes, how long they stay fed.
Under [Riding]: where the saddle, the rider and the passenger sit, how long the saddle is drawn,
and which inputs dismount. These apply while the game is running - edit the config file and the
saddle moves as you save it, so it can be lined up by eye.
Under [Crafting]: the saddle's materials, crafting station, station level, name and description.
These are read while the game loads, so they need a restart.
The bear uses the vanilla Lox saddle rather than a new item, so its recipe, name and description are replaced - a saddle for an actual Lox costs and reads the same. Both can be switched off in the config to leave the vanilla item alone.
Can I... ?
Breed bears - Not yet. The bear has no cub model, so it would need the adult model scaled down.
Credits
Bear taming is based on MyBearFriend by MysteriousMilk (https://github.com/MysteriousMilk/MyBearFriend), shared under the WTFPL. Riding, the passenger seat, the saddle recipe and everything around them were built on top of it.
You do not need MyBearFriend installed. This package contains both taming and riding, and running both at once would have two mods fighting over the same bear.
