README
OctoPack
A craftable backpack for Valheim with its own equipment slot, progression, extra storage, and visible travelling gear.
Features
- Traveller backpack plus seven sequential boss upgrades, with 4–24 backpack slots and increasing carry bonuses.
- Dedicated backpack equipment slot and a backpack inventory panel that follows the player inventory until you move it.
- Visible stowed weapons, shields, keepsakes, and configurable backpack motion.
- Persistent cargo: take off or drop your pack while its items keep their saved positions. Selected lantern and arm attachments stay with the pack when the Lantern add-on is installed.
- Pick up a dropped pack to equip it directly. Filled packs cannot be placed inside ordinary inventory cells or another backpack.
- Dropped-pack physics and fitted contacts, including saved arm and lantern geometry supplied by the Lantern add-on.
- Backpack display and storage on armor stands.
- Grave recovery and optional integration with supported inventory providers.
Requirements
Valheim with BepInEx installed. This package contains the OctoPack core; the Lantern and Camping add-ons are separate.
Installation
Install with your Hexium-compatible mod manager.
For a manual installation, close Valheim, open this ZIP, and copy its plugins folder into your existing BepInEx folder. The resulting file is:
BepInEx/plugins/OctoPack/OctoPack.dll
Keep one copy of the DLL. When updating, replace the old DLL and keep your existing configuration.
Multiplayer and dedicated servers
Install the same OctoPack version on participating clients and the dedicated server. The server uses the identical OctoPack.dll; there is no separate server DLL. Single-player needs only its normal client installation.
For the current paired release, use OctoPack 1.7.2 with Lantern 1.2.2. A dedicated server needs the core DLL; it does not need Lantern or Camping for their client visuals.
Getting started
Craft the Traveller backpack at a level 1 workbench with 10 Deer Hide, 10 Leather Scraps, 4 Bone Fragments, and 2 Resin. Equip it in the pack slot. Later upgrades use the preceding pack and their boss progression requirements.
Default controls
| Action | Control |
|---|---|
| Drop the equipped backpack with its cargo | Either Shift + R |
| Hang or remove a pack at an armor stand | Shift + Use; E is the default Use key |
| Move the backpack inventory panel or pack equipment slot | Hold Alt and drag with the left mouse button |
| Reload configuration | F6 |
The backpack inventory continues to follow changes in player inventory height until you actually drag it. The panel and equipment slot can be moved independently.
Configuration
BepInEx/config/OctoPack.cfg is generated on first launch. It contains gameplay, inventory, visual, mount, motion, and control settings.
This release uses the defaults embedded in the DLL and does not include a replacement config.
Compatibility
Equipment and Quick Slots, Path of Valheiman, and OctoArsenal integrations are optional; they are not required downloads. Compatibility depends on the versions and settings of the other installed mods.
Remove the legacy Octodad.Backpack plugin before using this core. Avoid duplicate copies of OctoPack.
Lantern adds the lanterns and integrated arm. Camping adds the camping kit. Neither add-on DLL is bundled in this core package.
Updating or removing
Close the game or server before replacing DLLs. Back up your character and world before changing a mod setup. Before removing OctoPack, transfer stored items out of backpacks, recover dropped packs, and remove displayed packs from stands.
