The she-wolf and her interface: health dial on the left, power bar in the centre, emblem on the right

The she-wolf and her interface. This picture is assembled from the mod's own artwork, laid over an in-game capture.

Alpha preview (0.4.2). This version adds a lot at once, and part of it is rough. The base of the mod (transformation, fighting, pups, leash) is the one from the previous preview. The new look, the Wolf skill, the talent tree, its magic and the new interface are young: expect rough edges. See Known issues below before you install it on a world you care about.

New in 0.4.2: another player's she-wolf now glows on your screen too, Geri and Freki are much tougher, the Wolf skill grows half as fast, and every ability has an icon that shows what it does.

Hunt wolves, collect their pheromones and brew an essence at the mead cauldron. Drink it, and answer the call of the pack: you become a she-wolf for 45 minutes, with dark fur, three tails and glowing markings that change colour as your Wolf skill grows.

What is new since the previous preview (0.3.1)

  • A new look. The she-wolf used to be the game's grey wolf with a brown lock of hair. She now has charcoal fur, a spiky mane, three tails, white glowing eyes and luminous tribal markings.
  • Markings that follow your level. Cyan at level 1, then yellow, orange, red, pink and violet at level 100. They glow, and cast a faint light on what is close to you.
  • A Wolf skill, from 1 to 100, in the game's skills window. It grows as you live as a she-wolf.
  • A talent tree of Norse magic: twenty abilities, one every five levels, fifteen already active, each with its own visible magic. It opens with F4, in a real window.
  • A power bar: your powers on keys 1 to 6, with their cooldowns.
  • A new interface, in the style of the emblem: a health dial, food sockets, ink-black windows with a thin gold line.
  • Movement fixed. She no longer runs with her hindquarters twisted to one side, she has a real walk, she can sneak low to the ground, and she really leaps when she jumps or dodges.
  • A real howl: she sits and raises her head to the sky.
  • Peace with wild wolves: they leave a she-wolf alone, as long as she does not bite them.
  • Everything is translated: the Wolf skill, the tree, its abilities and its powers follow your game's language too, in all 35 languages.
  • On the character selection screen, a character who logged out as a she-wolf is shown as a she-wolf.
  • The essence costs 30 drops instead of 50.
  • A fur for the cold (0.4.1): as a she-wolf you are resistant to frost, with no cape and no mead.
  • 0.4.2: other players' she-wolves glow on your screen too, Geri and Freki are tougher, the Wolf skill grows half as fast, and every ability has its icon.

The full list is in the changelog.

How it works

  1. Wolf Pheromone Drops: wolves you kill have a 50 % chance to drop 1 to 5 of them.
  2. The essence: 30 drops make a Wolf Pheromone Essence at the mead cauldron.
  3. The transformation: drinking the essence turns you into a she-wolf for 45 minutes. There is no way back early. Logging out does not end it, and neither does dying: you respawn as a she-wolf and can still recover your tombstone.

As a she-wolf

  • Body: you get the wolf's own model and animations, with charcoal fur, a spiky mane down the back, three tails and white glowing eyes. Nobody will take you for a wild wolf.
  • Markings: a spiral on the hip, a line running down the hind leg and along the tail, a sign behind the shoulder, cracks on the throat and the face, bands around the legs. They glow in the colour of your Wolf skill level and cast a faint light around you. Other players see them in your colour.
  • Fighting: all your damage is multiplied by 1.5, and your attacks are quicker than a wild wolf's.
    • Left mouse button: a three-strike combo, like the game's weapons: bite left, bite right, then she rears up and rakes with her claws (stronger, wider, staggers).
    • Middle mouse button (secondary attack): a hunting pounce. She leaps up to 4.5 m onto the nearest enemy in front of her and bites as she lands (double damage).
    • Dodge: the game's dodge keys (block + jump, crouch + jump, or the dodge key) make her leap aside, leaning into it. She is invulnerable at the start of the leap, just like the game's roll, and it uses the same stamina and Dodge skill.
  • Sneaking: the crouch key makes her stalk: slow and quiet, body low, neck stretched forward, head down.
  • Speed: you run 40 % faster.
  • Cold: her fur keeps her warm. For as long as you are a she-wolf you are resistant to frost, without a cape or a frost resistance mead: the Cold and Freezing effects no longer apply, in the Mountain or at night, and frost damage is halved.
  • Instinct: living creatures glow within 45 m. Red means hostile, orange means animal, and blue means player or tamed creature.
  • Howl: press H. She sits, raises her head to the sky and gives a long howl that every player hears from far away.
  • Food: you can eat raw meat.
  • Wolf interface: your vision is framed with fur and turns red as your health drops, and the whole interface takes the shapes of the emblem: see the next section.
  • Among wolves: wild wolves do not attack a she-wolf. Bite one, and it and its pack turn on you for two minutes.
  • Pups: stay close to a tamed, fed and calm wolf, and hearts appear now and then. A litter is then on the way, and after 3 minutes 1 or 2 tamed wolf cubs are born at your feet. If the transformation ends first, they are born just before you turn back.
  • Collar and leash: another player can put a collar and leash on you with the Use key. They lead the way and you follow, and the same key removes it. If they go through a portal, you go with them. The leather leash hangs in a gentle curve between the collar and their hand.
  • Paws, not hands: you can't equip anything or use weapons, tools, workbenches, forges or cooking stations, and you can't handle objects. You can still open doors, sleep, recover your tombstone, pick items up, and pet or call a tamed animal so it follows you.

The she-wolf interface

While you are a she-wolf, the game's interface takes the shapes of her emblem: ink-black discs ringed with gold, rings of chevrons, thin gold lines. The picture at the top of this page shows the whole of it.

  • On the right, the emblem. Its ring of chevrons empties with the time you have left as a she-wolf.
  • On the left, the health dial, its mirror: the same ring, blood red, empties with your health, around your health and its maximum.
  • Beside it, three food sockets show what you have eaten, each ringed by the time it has left. The ring turns red when the meal is running out.
  • In the centre, the power bar: one socket per power, with its icon in the colour of your markings, its cooldown and its key. A power you have not earned yet shows its level.
  • Around them, the game's Forsaken power sits in the same row, and the stamina bar just above the power bar.
  • Windows: inventory, chests and crafting get an ink-black background with a thin gold line and cut corners.

Close-up of the health dial and the three food sockets

Close-up of the power bar, on keys 1 to 6

The game's own health bar and food icons are hidden while you are a she-wolf. Everything goes back to normal when you turn back.

These interface pictures are assembled from the mod's own artwork, laid over in-game captures. They were made for 0.4.1: since 0.4.2 the power bar shows an icon for each power instead of a rune.

The Wolf skill

"Wolf" is a skill like the game's own: it shows in the skills window, goes from 1 to 100, and drops when you die, like every other skill. It only grows while you are a she-wolf.

You do this You earn
Stay transformed 1 point every 20 seconds
Travel 1 point every 24 m
Land a bite half a point
Kill a creature 4.5 points (9 for a one-star creature, 13.5 for a two-star one)
Kill a boss 100 points
Howl 2 points, once a minute
A litter is on the way 30 points
Your pups are born 50 points

These gains were halved in 0.4.2: in play, level 41 came in 30 minutes, far faster than planned. How long level 100 takes depends a lot on how much you fight, and the pace may still be retuned.

Your level gives your markings their colour:

Level Colour
1 Cyan
20 Yellow
40 Orange
60 Red
80 Pink
100 Violet

The colour shifts a little at every level in between, so each level has its own shade.

The talent tree

Press F4 to open the tree. It is a real window: the mouse appears, and Escape closes it. It is drawn as a runic tree, with the stump of level 1 at the bottom, three branches rising from it, Fenrir (fury), Seiðr (sorcery) and Máni (moon and pack), and a level scale from 1 to 100 on the left. There is one ability every five levels, each with an icon of what it does and its level next to its name: point at one to read the details.

The talent tree window, here at level 47 with the mouse on Geri and Freki

Made for 0.4.1: since 0.4.2 each ability shows an icon of what it does instead of its level, and its level sits next to its name.

Most abilities are permanent. The others are powers. Each power has its own key, 1 to 6 by default (the number row, configurable), and a cooldown of 5 minutes (10 for Fenrir unbound). The power bar at the bottom of the screen shows them with their icons, their cooldowns and their keys. While you are a she-wolf, those keys no longer trigger the game's item shortcuts.

Active in this version (15 of 20):

Ability Level Branch What it does
Seiðr scent 5 Seiðr Wounded creatures within 30 m trail fireflies in your colour
Ember steps 10 Fenrir Running costs 15 % less stamina, and embers in your colour rise under your paws
Hati's howl 15 Máni Power. You howl, and a shockwave pushes back and staggers enemies within 12 m, who then flee for 6 seconds
Runic fangs 20 Fenrir Each bite brands the target with the Tiwaz rune and sets it ablaze: extra fire damage
Niflheim's coat 25 Seiðr You are never wet and you become very resistant to frost (frost damage cut by three quarters instead of half), and frost glitters around your fur in the cold
Sköll's leap 30 Fenrir The pounce reaches 50 % further, draws a streak of light and lands in a burst that staggers the enemies around
Geri and Freki 35 Máni Power. Odin's two wolves, made of light in your colour, fight beside you for 30 seconds. They are tough: four times a wolf's health at level 35, up to eight times at level 100, and physical blows only do them half damage
Veil of mist 40 Seiðr While sneaking, a mist wraps you: sneaking costs no stamina, enemies hardly notice you, and your first strike hits twice as hard
Máni's blessing 45 Máni At night your health returns 50 % faster, and when you stand still a moonbeam falls on you and your markings pulse
Bifröst rush 50 Fenrir Power. You become a streak of light over 10 m: untouchable, you bite everything you pass through
Alpha's aura 65 Máni Tamed wolves within 20 m hit 20 % harder
Valhalla's feast 75 Fenrir The soul of each enemy you kill comes to you and gives you back 8 % of your health
Ragnarök howl 80 Máni Power. A pillar of light and a shockwave: for 20 seconds you hit 25 % harder and your tamed wolves 50 % harder
Yggdrasil's bark 85 Seiðr You take 15 % less physical damage, and a shield flashes around you when you are hit
Fenrir unbound 100 Fenrir Power. For 20 seconds you grow, your markings blaze and you deal 50 % more damage, and nearby enemies are thrown back in dread

Shown in the tree, not active yet (5 of 20):

Ability Level Branch What it is meant to do
Blood of the pack 55 Máni One more pup per litter, growing faster, born with faint markings
Gleipnir's chains 60 Seiðr Power. Chains of light pin enemies within 8 m in place for 4 seconds
Heimdall's eye 70 Seiðr You see clearly at night, and enemies' outlines glow through the mist
Thunder bite 90 Fenrir The third hit of the combo calls lightning, which jumps to two nearby enemies
Hel's breath 95 Seiðr A lethal blow turns you into mist for 2 seconds instead of killing you, once every 10 minutes

The magic uses the game's own effects (shockwaves, summoning swirls, bursts), recoloured to the colour of your markings, and every player around sees it.

Known issues (alpha)

  • Much of this version is young. The talent tree window, the power bar, the new interface, the leap of the jump and the dodge, and the magic effects have had very little play time. Tell me what looks wrong.
  • Five abilities are not active yet (levels 55, 60, 70, 90 and 95).
  • Fleeing: the game makes each creature think on one player's computer. A creature frightened by your howl only flees if your own game is in charge of it; otherwise it is only pushed back.
  • Some details described in the tree are missing: the Ragnarök howl does not strengthen other players yet, and the eyes of your pack do not light up.
  • The pace of the Wolf skill was halved in 0.4.2 after a first test, and may still be retuned.

Everything else (transformation, fighting, instinct, pups, collar and leash) is the base of the previous preview.

Where the project is going

  • Finish the five remaining abilities, each with its own visible magic.
  • Tune the pace of the Wolf skill and the strength of the abilities.
  • Keep polishing the animations, the magic and the interface with what players report.

Credits

  • Ability icons: based on icons from game-icons.net by Lorc, Delapouite, Skoll, sbed, Zeromancer and Carl Olsen, under CC BY 3.0, recoloured, and some combined. The icons of Sköll's leap and Hel's breath were drawn for the mod.

Installation

  • Who needs it: install the mod for every player and on the server. Other players need it to see you as a she-wolf, and the server needs it to keep the new items.
  • Updating: give everyone and the server the same version.
  • With a mod manager (r2modman, Thunderstore Mod Manager): click Install. BepInExPack Valheim is installed with it.
  • By hand: install BepInExPack Valheim, then put SheWolf.dll in Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/.

Tested with Valheim 1.0.17 and BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350.

    • une nouvelle allure : pelage charbon, crinière hérissée, trois queues, yeux blancs lumineux, marques tribales lumineuses (la mèche brune disparaît) ;
    • des marques à la couleur de votre niveau : cyan au niveau 1, puis jaune, orange, rouge, rose, et violet au niveau 100 ; elles luisent et éclairent faiblement ce qui est tout proche ;
    • une compétence Loup, de 1 à 100, dans la fenêtre des compétences du jeu ;
    • un arbre de talents de magie nordique : vingt capacités, une tous les cinq niveaux, dont quinze déjà actives, chacune avec sa magie visible ;
    • une barre de pouvoirs : vos pouvoirs sur les touches 1 à 6, avec leur temps de recharge ;
    • une nouvelle interface dans le style de l'emblème : cadran de vie, alvéoles de nourriture, fenêtres d'encre à filet d'or ;
    • la course corrigée (l'arrière-train ne part plus de travers), une vraie marche, l'approche à pas de loup, et une vraie détente pour le saut et l'esquive ;
    • un vrai hurlement : elle s'assoit et lève la tête au ciel ;
    • la paix avec les loups sauvages, tant que vous ne les mordez pas ;
    • tout est traduit dans les 35 langues, compétence, arbre et pouvoirs compris ;
    • à l'écran de sélection du personnage, une louve déconnectée en louve se voit en louve ;
    • l'essence ne coûte plus que 30 gouttes au lieu de 50 ;
    • 0.4.1 : la louve ne craint plus le froid (résistante au givre dès la transformation, sans cape ni hydromel), la fenêtre de l'arbre de talents s'affiche enfin (elle ne se montrait pas en 0.4.0) et s'ouvre avec F4 ;
    • 0.4.2 : la louve d'un autre joueur luit aussi chez vous (votre instinct éteignait ses marques), Geri et Freki sont bien plus robustes, la compétence Loup monte deux fois moins vite, et chaque capacité a une icône qui montre ce qu'elle fait.
    • clic gauche : enchaînement de trois coups (morsure à gauche, à droite, puis griffes, dressée) ;
    • clic milieu (attaque secondaire) : bond de chasse jusqu'à 4,5 m sur l'ennemi visé, morsure à l'arrivée ;
    • esquive avec les touches du jeu (parade + saut, accroupie + saut ou touche d'esquive) : bond de côté, invulnérable au début ;
    • dégâts x1,5 et +40 % de vitesse ;
    • sa fourrure la protège du froid : ni « Froid » ni « Gel », et dégâts de givre réduits de moitié ;
    • instinct qui fait briller les êtres vivants à 45 m ;
    • hurlement avec la touche H ;
    • les loups sauvages ne vous attaquent pas ; mordez-en un, et sa meute vous en veut deux minutes.
    • une grande partie de cette version est toute jeune (fenêtre de l'arbre, barre de pouvoirs, nouvelle interface, détente du saut et de l'esquive, effets de magie) : dites-moi ce qui cloche ;
    • cinq capacités sur vingt ne sont pas encore actives.

Old screenshots (previous preview, 0.3.x)

These are OLD in-game captures, taken with the previous preview. They show the she-wolf as she looked before 0.4.0: the game's grey wolf with a brown lock of hair, one tail and no markings. What they show around her (the emblem, the hearts, the pups, the leash) is still in the mod.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.5.0

Shapeshifting at will (level 25)

  • New ability at level 25 of the Wolf skill, Hamr shapeshift (Seiðr branch): press U (setting ToucheMetamorphose), or Enter on it in the talent tree, to go from she-wolf to human form and back, as often as you like.
  • Each minute as a she-wolf costs one pheromone drop. You live on a reserve of time: what is left of an essence, then one drop from your bag for each further minute. Going back to human form keeps the reserve for the next time; once it is empty and no drop is left, you turn back. A message warns you when you are down to your last 3 drops.
  • An essence still fills the reserve with 45 minutes. Below level 25 nothing changes: the essence lasts 45 minutes, with no way back.
  • Logging out in human form keeps you human when you come back, on the character selection screen too.
  • The emblem's ring counts the drops in your bag, and a line under the tree's gauge says how many you carry and how many minutes as a she-wolf they give.
  • Niflheim's coat, the ability that used to sit at level 25, now comes with the she-wolf form itself: as a she-wolf you are never wet and very resistant to frost (frost damage cut by three quarters), with frost glittering around your fur in the cold.

Harvesting

  • The she-wolf now gathers with her jaws what grows or lies on the ground (mushrooms, berries, flint, stones, crops), takes a fish you caught, collects sap from a sap extractor and honey from a beehive, and takes what is ready from a station: finished mead from a fermenter, cooked meat from a cooking station. Putting an ingredient into a station is still cooking, which paws can't do.

Fighting

  • Damage as a she-wolf is ×1.2 instead of ×1.5 (setting BoostDegats). A settings file left on the old default (1.5) switches to 1.2 by itself, once; a value you chose yourself is kept.
  • The hunting pounce (secondary attack) staggered everything, every time. It now deals one and a half times the damage instead of twice, pushes less, costs a little more stamina (24 instead of 20), and staggers far less: only frail creatures, which it often kills, still reel from it.
  • The combo's staggers are closer to the game's weapons: 1, 1 and 1.5 (they were 1, 1.2 and 2.5).
  • Sköll's leap (level 30): its landing burst no longer staggers bosses, reaches 2.2 m around you instead of 2.6 m, and staggers the same enemy at most once every 20 seconds.

Wolf skill

  • Every gain is cut by another quarter: staying transformed now gives 1 point every 27 seconds, travelling 1 point every 32 m, a bite 0.375 point, a kill 3.4 points per star level, a boss 75, a howl 1.5, a litter 22.5 and its birth 37.5.

Talent tree

  • A new look: a thin thread of light runs up each branch from level 1 to 100, each branch name sits on a gold line pointed at both ends, and the stump at the bottom, the she-wolf form itself, is round like the shapeshift (it was a diamond). The legend shows three signs: permanent ability, power, form.
  • The details panel shows the chosen ability's icon in large, at the top right.

Pheromones

  • The essence's description now says that from level 25 shapeshifting lets you turn back, and no longer mentions the brown lock of hair (gone since 0.4.0). The drops' description says that from level 25 each one also gives a minute as a she-wolf. In the 35 languages.

Installing

0.4.3

  • Tested with Valheim 1.0.20 (15 October 2026 update): nothing needed changing. Rebuilt against the new version of the game.

0.4.2

Other she-wolves

  • Fixed: when you were a she-wolf yourself, another player's she-wolf looked dull on your screen. Her markings did not glow and hardly lit anything around her. Your instinct, which makes living creatures glow around you, laid its pale blue over her body and hid the light of her markings. Your instinct now leaves other she-wolves alone: they glow in the colour of their own level, as they do on their own screen.

Geri and Freki (level 35)

  • Odin's two wolves were plain wolves with a wolf's 80 health, and fell to a single blow. They now have four times a wolf's health at level 35, rising to eight times at level 100, and physical blows (blunt, slash and pierce) only do them half damage.

Wolf skill

  • Every gain of the Wolf skill is halved: in play, level 41 came in 30 minutes. Staying transformed now gives 1 point every 20 seconds, travelling 1 point every 24 m, a bite half a point, a kill 4.5 points per star level, a boss 100, a howl 2, a litter 30 and its birth 50.

Ability icons

  • Every ability now has an icon that shows what it does, in the talent tree and on the power bar. The tree used to show only levels, and the bar showed runes. In the tree, the level of each ability is now written next to its name.
  • The icons are based on game-icons.net (CC BY 3.0, credits in the description).

0.4.1

A fur for the cold

  • As a she-wolf you are now resistant to frost, from the moment you transform and for as long as it lasts. No cape and no frost resistance mead needed. Requested by crowlikedream in the mod's comments on Nexus.
  • It works like the game's own frost resistance: the Cold and Freezing effects no longer apply, in the Mountain or at night, and frost damage is halved. The essence's description shows it.
  • Niflheim's coat (level 25) changes with it. It used to be the ability that kept you from the cold. It now keeps you dry (never wet) and makes you very resistant to frost: frost damage is cut by three quarters instead of half. The frost still glitters around your fur in the cold. Its description is updated in the 35 languages.

Talent tree

  • Fixed: the talent tree window did not show up when you pressed its key. It was built without any error, but never drawn on screen.
  • The tree now opens with F4 instead of K (setting ToucheArbre). A settings file left on K switches to F4 by itself, once. A key you chose yourself is kept.
  • Fixed: in the details panel, an ability name written on two lines could overlap the line below in Greek, Georgian, Japanese, Korean, Thai and Macedonian. Such a name now shrinks to fit.
  • The mod writes one line in the BepInEx log each time the tree opens or closes.

Installing

  • As always, give every player and the server the same version.

0.4.0

Alpha preview. The she-wolf gets a new look, a skill of her own, a talent tree of Norse magic with its power bar, and a new interface. Much of it is young: see the known issues at the end of this entry.

New look

  • The she-wolf is no longer the game's grey wolf with a brown lock of hair. She has charcoal fur, a spiky mane down her back, three tails and white glowing eyes.
  • Luminous tribal markings: a spiral on the hip, a line running from it down the hind leg and along the tail, a sign behind the shoulder, cracks on the throat and the face, bands around the legs.
  • The markings were painted by hand on the wolf's 3D model, then straightened into clean, even strokes.
  • The markings take the colour of your Wolf skill level: cyan at level 1, yellow at 20, orange at 40, red at 60, pink at 80, violet at 100. The colour shifts a little at every level in between, so each level has its own shade.
  • The eyes stay white at every level.
  • The markings glow: they are bright enough for the game's bloom to pick them up.
  • The markings cast a faint light in their colour on the ground and on what stands close to the she-wolf. The light has no shadow, so it costs next to nothing to draw.
  • The two extra tails have their own bones and copy the movement of the real tail. The spikes of the mane are rigid on the spine, the neck and the head, so they follow every animation without stretching.
  • Other players see your markings in your colour: your Wolf level is shared with them.
  • The brown lock of hair is gone, and its Meche and CouleurMecheHex settings with it.
  • New settings: Silhouette (TroisQueues, Herissee for the spiky mane alone, Jeu for the game's wolf shape), Marques, FourrureSombre, EclatMarques, LueurPortee, LueurIntensite.

The Wolf skill

  • New skill, "Wolf", in the game's skills window, from 1 to 100. It starts at level 1 and only grows while you are a she-wolf.
  • 1 point every 10 seconds spent transformed.
  • 1 point every 12 m travelled (portals and respawns do not count).
  • 1 point for each bite that lands on a creature.
  • 9 points for each creature you kill, multiplied by its level: 18 for a one-star creature, 27 for a two-star one. 200 points for a boss.
  • 4 points for a howl, once a minute.
  • 60 points when a litter is on the way, 100 points when your pups are born.
  • Tuned so that level 100 takes about 13 hours as a she-wolf.
  • Like every skill of the game, it drops when you die.
  • New settings: FacteurExperience (all gains) and FacteurExperienceDeplacement (the points earned by travelling).

Talent tree

  • New window, opened with K. It is a real window of the game: the mouse appears, the camera stops turning, and Escape closes it without opening the game's menu.
  • It is drawn as a runic tree: the stump of level 1 at the bottom, three branches rising from it (Fenrir, Seiðr, Máni), each ability at the height of its level, and a level scale from 1 to 100 on the left that fills up as you progress.
  • Twenty abilities of Norse magic, one every five levels. Point at one with the mouse, or use the up and down arrows, to read its level, its branch and what it does.
  • What you have unlocked takes the colour of your markings.
  • The Wolf skill, the tree, its abilities and the powers' messages follow your game's language, in the mod's 35 languages.
  • Permanent abilities apply as soon as you reach their level.
  • Active, level 5, Seiðr scent: wounded creatures within 30 m trail fireflies in your colour.
  • Active, level 10, Ember steps: running costs 15 % less stamina, and embers in your colour rise under your paws.
  • Active, level 15, Hati's howl (power): you howl, and a shockwave pushes back and staggers enemies within 12 m, who then flee for 6 seconds.
  • Active, level 20, Runic fangs: each bite brands the target with the Tiwaz rune and sets it ablaze, for extra fire damage.
  • Active, level 25, Niflheim's coat: you are never cold, freezing or wet, and frost glitters around your fur in the cold.
  • Active, level 30, Sköll's leap: the pounce reaches 50 % further, draws a streak of light and lands in a burst that staggers the enemies around.
  • Active, level 35, Geri and Freki (power): Odin's two wolves, made of light in your colour, fight beside you for 30 seconds. They leave no loot and no pups.
  • Active, level 40, Veil of mist: while sneaking, a mist wraps you. Sneaking costs no stamina, enemies hardly notice you, and your first strike hits twice as hard.
  • Active, level 45, Máni's blessing: at night your health returns 50 % faster, and when you stand still a moonbeam falls on you and your markings pulse.
  • Active, level 50, Bifröst rush (power): you become a streak of light over 10 m. Untouchable, you bite everything you pass through.
  • Active, level 65, Alpha's aura: tamed wolves within 20 m hit 20 % harder.
  • Active, level 75, Valhalla's feast: the soul of each enemy you kill comes to you and gives you back 8 % of your health.
  • Active, level 80, Ragnarök howl (power): a pillar of light and a shockwave. For 20 seconds you hit 25 % harder and your tamed wolves 50 % harder.
  • Active, level 85, Yggdrasil's bark: you take 15 % less physical damage, and a shield flashes around you when you are hit.
  • Active, level 100, Fenrir unbound (power): for 20 seconds you grow, your markings blaze and you deal 50 % more damage, and nearby enemies are thrown back in dread.
  • Shown in the tree but not active yet: Blood of the pack (55), Gleipnir's chains (60), Heimdall's eye (70), Thunder bite (90), Hel's breath (95).
  • The magic uses the game's own effects (shockwaves, summoning swirls, bursts), recoloured to the colour of your markings, with a few effects of its own (embers, frost, fireflies, the Tiwaz rune, the moonbeam, trails of light). Every player around sees it.

Powers and their bar

  • Each power has its own key: 1 to 6 by default, the number row. The keys can be changed (ToucheHati, ToucheGeriFreki, ToucheBifrost, ToucheGleipnir, ToucheRagnarok, ToucheFenrir).
  • While you are a she-wolf, those keys no longer trigger the game's item shortcuts of the same rank.
  • New power bar at the bottom of the screen, between the health dial and the emblem: one socket per power, with its rune in the colour of your markings, its cooldown and its key. A power you have not earned yet shows its level.
  • Cooldowns: 5 minutes, 10 for Fenrir unbound. New setting FacteurRechargePouvoirs.

Interface

  • New interface in the style of the emblem. On the left, a health dial mirrors it: the same ring of chevrons, blood red, empties with your health, around your health and its maximum. Beside it, three sockets show the food you have eaten, each ringed by the time it has left.
  • The game's own health bar and food icons are hidden while you are a she-wolf, and come back when you turn back.
  • Inventory, chests and crafting: an ink-black window with a thin gold line and cut corners replaces the striped fur, the clawed frame and the banner.
  • Fixed: the gold frame around the health bar was misplaced (it is replaced by the dial).
  • Fixed: the she-wolf banner of the inventory covered the first row of slots (the banner is gone).
  • The game's Forsaken power (its icon, its name, its cooldown) moves beside the food sockets while you are a she-wolf, so that it does not sit on the health dial. It goes back to its place when you turn back.
  • The texts of the wolf interface are brighter: their dark outline no longer eats into the thin letters.
  • The game's stamina and eitr bars sit just above the power bar while you are a she-wolf, instead of under it.

Movement and animations

  • Fixed: the she-wolf ran with her hindquarters twisted to one side, as if she were running across a slope, even in a straight line. It had been there since the first preview. The game tells a player's animations "turning at full speed" all the time, where a creature gets a value that falls to zero once it faces its direction, and the wolf's animations read that as a permanent hard turn. The she-wolf now sends her real turning speed: she runs straight, and only leans a little in tight turns.
  • Fixed: there was no walking animation. At walking pace the she-wolf played a blend of her two leaning runs. She now walks at walking speeds and runs at running speeds.
  • Fixed: jumping and dodging froze the she-wolf in a standing pose while she moved through the air. The game's wolf has no jump animation, only a still pose. She now leaps: her hind legs push off, her body stretches at the top, and her forelegs reach for the ground as she comes down. A dodge is the same leap, quicker, leaning to the side she dodges to.
  • New: sneaking. The crouch key now works as a she-wolf: she moves slowly and quietly, body low, neck stretched forward, head down. Before, crouching did nothing, because the game reads "crouching" from an animation the wolf does not have.
  • The howl now plays the game's own sitting howl, head raised to the sky, instead of a simple tilt of the head.
  • Other players see the leap, the sneaking pose and the howl as you do.

Character selection

  • A character who logged out as a she-wolf is shown as a she-wolf on the character selection screen, with her markings in the colour of her level.

Among wolves

  • Wild wolves no longer attack a she-wolf. If she bites one, it and the wolves of its pack within 16 m turn on her for two minutes, counted from her last bite.

Balance

  • The Wolf Pheromone Essence costs 30 drops instead of 50. A config file that was still at the old default (50) is switched to 30 once. Set GouttesParEssence back to 50 afterwards if you prefer it.

Known issues in this alpha

  • The talent tree window, the power bar, the new interface, the leap of the jump and the dodge, and the magic effects have had very little play time.
  • Five abilities are not active yet.
  • A creature frightened by a howl only flees if your own game is in charge of it; otherwise it is only pushed back.
  • The Ragnarök howl does not strengthen other players yet.
  • The pace of the Wolf skill has not been play-tested over its 13 hours.

Installing

  • Update every player and the server together.
  • Tested with Valheim 1.0.17.

0.3.1

  • Fixed: the names and descriptions of the she-wolf's items and effects could show as raw keys such as [laivy_louve_gouttes_nom]. This happened when another mod had already loaded the game's translations (FeedingTrough, Drakkar Lantern and Fermenter Timer did) and a mod that keeps its own English copy of them was installed, as mods built with blaxxun's ItemManager do. She Wolf now checks the game's own translations before using its texts.
  • Now also available on Nexus Mods.

0.3.0

  • In-game texts in 35 languages: your game's own language, English otherwise (they were English or French). Fonts for every alphabet.
  • Tested with Valheim 1.0.17.

0.2.0

Fighting

  • Left click is now a three-strike combo, like the game's weapons: bite left, bite right, then a rearing claw rake (x1.6 damage, wider arc, strong stagger).
  • New secondary attack (middle click): a hunting pounce. The she-wolf leaps up to 4.5 m onto the nearest enemy in front of her and bites as she lands (x2 damage, heavy stagger). Before, the middle click was a claw strike on the spot.
  • Dodge: the game's dodge keys (block + jump, crouch + jump, or the dodge key) now make her leap aside, with an invulnerability window like the game's roll, the same stamina cost and the Dodge skill.
  • Attacks are 25 % quicker than a wild wolf's.

Leash

  • The leash now hangs in a gentle curve and never goes into the ground. Before, it sagged about 2 m and sank into the ground when the she-wolf walked close to her master.

Interface

  • A reminder of the pounce, dodge and howl keys above the emblem, using your own key bindings.
  • The she-wolf interface has its own canvas, so it no longer makes the whole game interface redraw every frame. The blood veil is not drawn at all while it is invisible, textures take less memory, and all its texts share one material.

Performance

  • Instinct: creatures are still found twice per second, but their glow now pulses smoothly, and their meshes are no longer scanned again at every refresh.
  • No more memory allocated every frame by the leash or by hiding the human body.
  • Network state is read with precomputed keys.
  • Other players' she-wolves are only animated while they are on screen.

Settings

  • New VitesseAttaques (attack speed, 1.25) and DistanceBond (pounce length, 4.5 m).

0.1.0 — preview

  • First public preview.
  • Wolf Pheromone Drops (50 % chance, 1–5 per wolf) and the Wolf Pheromone Essence at the mead cauldron (50 drops).
  • 45-minute she-wolf transformation that survives logout and death.
  • Wolf model with a brown lock, bite and leap, +40 % speed, damage x1.5, instinct, raw meat.
  • Howl (H), wolf interface, pups with tamed wolves, collar and leash.
  • In-game texts in English, or in French when the game is set to French.
  • Settings in com.Azura.shewolf.cfg, section [Louve], described in English and French.
