README

๐ŸŒณ TalentTree Tweaks

Quality-of-life improvements for TalentTree by M2Valheim that make managing your talents easier and the interface more readable.

๐Ÿ†• New in 1.1

๐ŸŽจ New talent icons

72 New icons, one for each talent plus the six sector hubs, replace TalentTree's own. TalentTree uses the same icon in the tree, on the buff of each talent's effect and on the debuff icons on enemies, so all of them change at once.

New talent icons

โญ• Round nodes and a calmer tree

The small nodes (Health, Stamina, Armor...) are drawn as circles instead of octagons, like the big ones. The paths to the nodes you could take next and those nodes themselves are no longer bright white, and the selection ring takes the node's own colour instead of yellow, so the tree is much easier to read.

Round nodes instead of octagons

๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ Smoother point picking

  • Pressing Select in a pinned tooltip takes the point and lets go of the node, so hovering other nodes shows their tooltip again right away.
  • The Select button only shows on nodes you can actually take right now.

โœจ What does it do?

  • โŒจ๏ธ Hotkey: open and close the TalentTree window with a configurable key.
  • ๐Ÿ“‘ SeneaL UI tab: add a dedicated Talents tab to SeneaL UI's character panel.
  • ๐Ÿ”Ž Smarter search: find nodes by their names, descriptions and stat bonuses, with visual highlighting.
  • ๐Ÿงน Cleaner tooltips: hide the useless Select button on maxed-out nodes and colour tooltip elements according to their branch.
  • ๐Ÿ”  Better readability: customise the point-cost token and use a custom font for tooltips and the Stats panel.
  • ๐ŸŽจ New talent icons: 72 hand-painted icons, in the tree, on your buffs and on enemy debuffs.
  • โญ• A calmer tree: round small nodes, quieter paths and a softer selection ring.
  • ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Client-side only. Every feature has its own configuration switch.

TalentTree is accessed through reflection, without a hard dependency on its internal code. If a feature relies on something that is missing or has changed, that feature disables itself and logs the reason once. It won't break the game or other mods.

โœจ Features

1. โŒจ๏ธ Talent Hotkey

Open and close the TalentTree window with a keyboard shortcut.

  • Default key: P, configurable.
  • The hotkey is ignored while typing in chat, using the console, entering text in any text field, or when there is no player in the world.
  • Especially useful if your inventory UI hides the Talents button added by TalentTree to the character panel. Other mods that modify the HUD, UI, inventory or related elements may also prevent the Talent Tree from appearing on screen. Just press your assigned hotkey and the Talent Tree opens instantly! ๐ŸŒณ

2. ๐Ÿ“‘ Compatibility with SeneaL UI

SeneaL UI replaces the game's character panel with its own row of tabs (Texts, Skills, Achievements and more), which hides TalentTree's button. This feature adds a dedicated Talents tab to that row.

  • Click the tab to open or close the TalentTree window, just like the hotkey.
  • The tab lights up while the TalentTree window is open.
  • Its tooltip displays your configured hotkey.
  • Uses SeneaL API's public tab API. No SeneaL code is copied, and the rest of the mod does not depend on it.

TalentTree Tweaks

3. ๐Ÿ”Ž Search by Stat + Highlighted Nodes

Current behaviour: TalentTree's built-in search only matches node names, so searching for something like "health" or "stamina" won't find nodes whose names don't contain those words.

New behaviour: this tweak also searches each node's description and stat rows.

  • Matching nodes remain at full brightness and receive a softly pulsing ring of light, gold by default.
  • Non-matching nodes are dimmed, and the connecting lines fade slightly.
  • Multiple search terms must all match. For example, carry weight finds nodes containing both words.
  • Clear the search field to restore the normal appearance.
  • The suggestion dropdown below the search box, which only lists node names, is hidden by default. With it hidden, you can't jump to a node by name through that dropdown; the visual highlighting takes its place.
  • TalentTree's original node colours are preserved, so nodes still show their normal states: taken, available or locked.

4. ๐Ÿงน Hide Select on Maxed-Out Nodes

Current behaviour: TalentTree's tooltip keeps a greyed-out Select button even after you've taken every rank of a node.

New behaviour:

  • The Select button and its separator disappear as soon as the node has no ranks left to take. No need to press Apply first.
  • Press Reset and the button comes back.
  • Nodes that can't be selected right now, because you lack points or haven't met a requirement, no longer show the button either: only nodes you can level up have it (HideSelectButtonWhenUnavailable; turn it off to go back to hiding it only on maxed nodes).
  • The tooltip automatically shrinks to fit the remaining content.

5. ๐ŸŽจ Branch Colours in Node Tooltips

Make tooltips easier to scan by using each node's branch colour instead of the usual orange accent.

  • The node's title, stat-row subtitles (such as "Bonus Health Points") and round point-cost token can each use the colour of the node's branch, matching the accent on its ring.

6. ๐Ÿ”ข More Readable Point-Cost Token

The round token displaying the point cost can be small and difficult to read. This feature gives you control over its size and number styling.

  • Token size: default 24, up from TalentTree's original 18.
  • Number font size: default 15, up from the original 11.
  • Number outline: a thicker black outline improves contrast. Default 2 px; set it to 0 to keep TalentTree's original outline.
  • Token size and number font size are read at startup.

7. ๐Ÿ”  Custom Font

Give TalentTree's interface a consistent look with Russo One, included with the mod.

  • Applies to all tooltip text: node name, description, stat rows, point-cost number and button text.
  • Also applies to TalentTree's Stats panel.
  • Use the included font or select any .ttf or .otf file in the fonts folder.
  • Leave the font setting empty to keep TalentTree's original font.
  • Stars retain their own font because they are symbols.
  • The font is registered for the current game session on Windows. It is not installed on your system.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Requirements

  • BepInEx 5
  • TalentTree (and its dependency Skills Reworked): required for the mod to do anything.
  • Optional: SeneaL UI + SeneaL API 1.1.0 or newer, only if you use SeneaL UI (for the Talents tab).

๐Ÿ“ฅ Installation

Install through your preferred mod manager, or manually copy TalentTreeTweaks.dll and the fonts folder into BepInEx/plugins/TalentTreeTweaks/.

Configuration file: BepInEx/config/DarthVladi.TalentTreeTweaks.cfg

๐Ÿ”ง Compatibility & Performance

  • Reflection-based integration: no hard link to TalentTree's internal code. If a required part is missing or has changed, the affected feature disables itself and logs the reason once.
  • Lightweight: the hotkey performs one key check per frame, the search effect only runs while you type, and tooltip changes run only while a tooltip is displayed.
  • Client-side only: no server-side installation required.

๐Ÿ™ Credits

  • TalentTree by M2Valheim.
  • SeneaL UI and SeneaL API by seneaL.
  • Tab icons from Phosphor Icons.
  • Font: Russo One by Jovanny Lemonad, SIL Open Font License (included in the fonts folder, see fonts/OFL-RussoOne.txt).

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.1.1

  • ๐Ÿ› Fixed: the new talent icons did not show with some mod managers. When a manager unpacked the package without its sub-folders, the icons ended up next to the DLL instead of in talent-icons, and TalentTree's own icons were kept. The mod now also takes them from next to the DLL. The Thunderstore package now puts everything inside plugins/, so the folders are kept.

1.1.0

  • ๐ŸŽจ New talent icons: 72 new icons (one for each talent, plus the six sector hubs) replace TalentTree's own. They also show on the buff of each talent's effect and on the debuff icons on enemies. Want to use your own? Drop a PNG named like the icon (for example warrior.focus.png) in the talent-icons folder. Turn it off with Enabled in the TalentTree Icons section.
  • โญ• Round small nodes: Health, Stamina, Armor and the other small nodes are circles instead of octagons, like the big ones (RoundMinorNodes).
  • ๐ŸŒซ๏ธ A calmer tree: the paths to the nodes you could take next, and those small nodes themselves, are no longer bright white; they look like any other node or path you don't have yet (QuietPathHints, QuietAvailableNodes).
  • ๐Ÿ’ Softer selection ring: the ring around the node you hover or select takes the node's own colour, lightened, instead of yellow (SoftSelection, SelectionLighten).
  • ๐Ÿ–ฑ๏ธ The node lets go after you take its point: pressing Select (or Select all) in a pinned tooltip takes the point and releases the node, so hovering other nodes shows their tooltip again without clicking an empty spot (ReleaseNodeAfterSelect).
  • ๐Ÿงน Select only where it makes sense: the Select button is now hidden on every node you can't take right now (no points, a requirement not met, or maxed), not only on maxed ones (HideSelectButtonWhenUnavailable).
  • ๐Ÿ› Fixed: the Lethal Patience effect showed a bare icon without a frame; it now uses the talent's own icon like the others.

1.0.0

  • First stable release. No behaviour changes from 0.7.1: the mod does what it is meant to do, and the config options are now stable.
  • Everything in this mod is about TalentTree: a hotkey and a SeneaL UI tab for its window, a search that also finds nodes by what they give, and a tidier, more readable node tooltip and Stats panel.

0.7.1

  • Changed: the search highlight is easier to see. The nodes that match get a softly pulsing ring of light (gold by default), the others fade more (default DimAlpha 0.12, was 0.2) and the lines between nodes fade a little too.
    • Config: Glow (on/off) and GlowColor (RRGGBBAA hex) in the TalentTree Search section.
    • If you already have a config file, delete the DimAlpha line or set it to 0.12 to get the new default.

0.7.0

  • Added: Search by stat in the TalentTree window. The search box only looked at node names, so "health" or "stamina" found nothing. Now it also looks at each node's description and stat rows, keeps the nodes that match at full brightness and dims all the others; clearing the box brings everything back. With several words, a node must contain all of them.
    • The suggestion dropdown under the box (it only listed names) is hidden by default.
    • Config: new TalentTree Search section with Enabled, DimAlpha (default 0.2) and HideDropdown (default on). Enabled is read at startup.
    • The dimming is a CanvasGroup on each node, so TalentTree's own colouring of nodes is untouched. Same rules as the other features: reflection only, patched after checking what it needs, off with a single log line if TalentTree is missing or changed.
  • Changed: the font setting now also applies to TalentTree's Stats panel (the list of total bonuses).

0.6.0

  • Renamed from "QOL Darth" to TalentTree Tweaks, since every feature is about TalentTree. The plugin GUID is now DarthVladi.TalentTreeTweaks and the config file DarthVladi.TalentTreeTweaks.cfg (copy your old values over by hand), and the DLL is TalentTreeTweaks.dll. Delete the old QOLDarth.dll.
  • No behaviour changes.

0.5.0

  • Added: Talents tab for SeneaL UI. When SeneaL UI draws its own row of tabs on the character screen (Texts, Skills, Achievements...), a Talents tab is added to it; clicking it opens and closes the TalentTree window, the same as the hotkey. The tab lights up while the window is open and its tooltip shows the hotkey.
    • Uses SeneaL API's public CharacterTabs (SeneaL API 1.1.0 or newer). SeneaL API is an optional dependency: without it, or without TalentTree, no tab is added and the log says so once.
    • Config: new TalentTree Tab section with Enabled and Icon (a Phosphor icon name, default tree-structure). Both are read at startup, so a change needs a game restart.
    • Building now needs SeneaL-API.dll as a reference (only to compile, it is not copied). SenealApiDll in Paths.user.props overrides its default location.

0.4.0

  • Added to the TalentTree tooltip look:
    • The sub-titles of the stat rows ("Amplified stats", "Bonus Health Points"...) and the round point-cost token take the colour of the node's branch, like the node's name. Config: SubtitleColorByBranch, CostTokenColorByBranch.
    • A thicker outline on the number inside the token. Config: CostTokenOutline (default 2 px).
    • All the tooltip's text uses a font of your choice, Russo One by default (it ships in the fonts folder next to the DLL, with its licence). Config: Font (a .ttf/.otf name; empty keeps TalentTree's font; needs a restart). The stars keep their own font because they are a symbol.
    • If the font can't be found or read, or TalentTree changed, that part is skipped and the log says why once.

0.3.0

  • Added: TalentTree tooltip look.
    • The node's name in the tooltip takes the colour of its branch (the accent that colours the node's ring) instead of always orange. Config: TitleColorByBranch.
    • The round token with the point cost gets a configurable size and font size, since the default one is hard to read. Config: CostTokenSize (default 24; TalentTree's own is 18) and CostTokenFontSize (default 15; TalentTree's own is 11). They are read when the tooltip is built, so a change needs a game restart.
    • Same rules as the other TalentTree features: reflection only, patched after checking what it needs, off with a single log line if TalentTree is missing or changed.

0.2.0

  • Added: Hide the Select button when a node is maxed. TalentTree's node tooltip keeps showing a greyed-out "Select" button after every rank of a node is taken; now the button (and its separator) is hidden and the tooltip is trimmed to fit.
    • Only when the node can't be unlocked and its ranks (applied plus selected but not applied yet) have reached its maximum, so it goes away as soon as you press Select; Reset brings it back. A node you can't take for lack of points or an unmet requirement keeps its button.
    • TalentTree is optional and reached by reflection; the patch is applied only after everything it needs has been found. If TalentTree is missing or changed, nothing is patched and the log says why once.
    • Config: TalentTree Tooltip section with HideSelectButtonWhenMaxed.

0.1.0

  • First release.
  • Added: TalentTree hotkey. Toggles the TalentTree window with a configurable key (default P), for setups where the inventory UI hides the Talents button.
    • Ignored while chat, the console or any text field is active, and when there is no local player.
    • TalentTree is optional and reached by reflection; if it is missing or changed, the feature turns itself off and logs it once.
    • Config: TalentTree Hotkey section with Enabled and Hotkey.
