World and Performance

Smoother sailing, vein mining, less fog and smoke, fewer lights from glowing plants, autosaves at quiet moments and an optional lag report.

8 mods in one: Sailing Tweaks, Vein Mining, Fog Reducer, Smoke Reducer, Pickable Lights, Sound Levels, Smart Save, Lag Meter.

Every mod in detail, with all its settings: see the Wiki tab.

How it works

  • Open the settings (F1). At the top, 0 - Sub-mods has a switch for every mod in this pack: turn on only what you want. Switching one off removes it right away, no restart.
  • Below that, every mod has its own settings, under its name.
  • F1 needs a config manager mod, e.g. ConfigurationManager by shudnal (included in Digi Modpack). Without one the mods still run with their default settings, and you can change the settings in r2modman: Config editor → digi.valheim.world.cfg.
  • Upgrading from the separate DigiTeam mods: your settings are copied over automatically the first time. Remove the separate ones (a mod that is still installed separately is skipped here).

Mods

Sailing Tweaks

Tailwind while steering, faster ships, no wave damage and more.

  • Always tailwind while you steer, and an optional minimum wind strength.
  • Faster sailing (about 2x vanilla top speed by default, adjustable from vanilla to about 4x) and rowing, and no wave-slam damage.
  • Push ships by hand, hide your sail, and reveal more map at sea. Every part can be switched off.

Vein Mining

Hold Left Alt while mining: when one piece breaks, the whole ore deposit breaks, with full XP.

  • Everything the deposit drops lands at your feet.
  • Pickaxe XP for the whole deposit; durability only for the hits you made (both adjustable).
  • Works with mods that change rock drops (Star Level System, Epic Loot). Key, controller button or always on.

Fog Reducer

A fog and a brightness slider per biome, plus ones for the Mistlands mist, the Ashlands heat blur and cave haze.

  • 100% = vanilla, 0% = no fog, for every biome from Meadows to Deep North (modded biomes too).
  • A brightness slider per biome too (50-300%), e.g. to actually see around you in the dark Ashlands.
  • Fog fades smoothly when you cross into another biome.
  • Ashlands: a slider for the weather's own mist clouds, and no more smeared, wobbly heat haze in the air or blurred screen when you heat up (sliders).
  • Caves and dungeons: sliders for the Morgen caves' thick mist and the dust haze in dungeons (half by default).

Smoke Reducer

Less smoke from fires, less steam from ovens and fewer Ashlands fire puffs, for better FPS.

  • Fires, ovens and kilns make fewer smoke puffs (half by default), and fewer stay around at once.
  • Less steam from food in ovens and cooking stations. Fires burn exactly as before.
  • Fewer flame puffs and fainter smoke from the Ashlands' spreading fire (burning ground and buildings): two sliders, half by default.

Pickable Lights

Glowing thistle, mushrooms, Jotun Puffs and Magecap stop adding real lights, for better FPS.

  • The plants still look glowing; they just no longer light up their surroundings, which saves a lot of GPU work where many of them grow.
  • Choose which pickables; changes apply right away.

Sound Levels

Volume sliders for the shield generator's nonstop hum (20%) and the portals' hum (30%).

  • The shield generator hums nonstop while it runs; a slider sets its volume (20% by default), the low-fuel warning included.
  • Portals hum while you stand near a connected one: their own slider, 30% by default. Changes are heard right away.

Smart Save

The autosave waits for a quiet moment instead of freezing the game mid-fight.

  • Saves while you are in a menu, sitting, in bed or standing still. Never mid-fight, while running or sailing.
  • Never more than a few minutes late. Adjustable interval and an optional Autosaving... message.
  • The host needs it (the host's game saves the world).

Lag Meter

Writes a short performance report to the log every 10 seconds, to find what causes lag (off by default).

  • Writes FPS, frame times and what is loaded (lights, smoke, fires, building pieces, ...) to the log every few seconds.
  • Shows which game systems take the most time, to find out why a place lags. Switch it off when done.

Notes

  • Mods that need another mod only start when that mod is installed; the rest work without it.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.0.10

  • Quiet Cleanup is now off by default and is switched off once for everyone who has it on. A player reported more lag and freezes with it, and measuring confirmed it does not help: it ran just as often as the game's own cleanup, with freezes about twice as long. You can still switch it on in F1 as an experiment.

1.0.9

  • Lag Meter 2: finds out why the frame rate drops. It times every engine system per frame (scripts, physics steps, animation, particles, UI, rendering, waiting for the graphics card), reads Unity's own counters (main thread, render thread and graphics card time, draw calls, shadow casters, ...), and times Valheim's update batches, heavy game systems, every mod's updates and every game component by name. A [LowFPS] report whenever a second is below 40 fps says what held the frame back and what was unusual, [Spike] lines break down single slow frames, a data file gets one line per second, and the mark key (F9) reports the last 10 seconds. Still off by default.
  • New: Quiet Cleanup. Unity cleans up unused memory whenever it sees fit, which is a short freeze in the middle of a fight or a run. It now waits for a quiet moment: a menu or the map open, sitting or in bed, teleporting, or a few seconds of standing still with no creature chasing you. If none comes it runs anyway after 2000 MB of new memory. On by default; not active on PCs with under 12 GB of RAM.

1.0.8

  • New: Plant Growth Fix. Fixes a vanilla bug where crops and saplings look ready but cannot be picked until you leave the area and come back (in a big base the game can stop checking a plant for good). Stuck plants now finish growing by themselves. Costs nothing measurable.
  • New: Farm Performance, for big crop fields. Crops no longer cast shadows (setting "Crop shadows", off), and Epic Loot's Green Thumb sparkles show on 1 plant in 10 instead of every boosted plant (setting "Green Thumb sparkles": All, Few or None). In a 4,000-plant field that was 4,000 particle effects.

1.0.7

  • Sailing Tweaks: the default sailing speed multiplier is now 4 (about 2x vanilla top speed) instead of 10 (about 3x), for new installs. The setting now says what it does: 1 = vanilla, 4 = about 2x, 10 = about 3x. An existing settings file keeps its value, so if you already played with it, set F1 > World and Performance > "Sailing Tweaks - 2 - Speed" > "Sailing speed multiplier" to 4 for the new default.

1.0.6

  • New: Sound Levels. Volume sliders for the shield generator, whose hum plays nonstop while it runs (20% by default, its low-fuel warning loop included), and for the hum of portals (30% by default). Changes are heard right away.

1.0.5

  • Fog Reducer: new section "Brightness per biome". A brightness slider for every biome (50-300%, 100 = vanilla) that scales the light in the shadows and the sun or moon, e.g. to see around you in the dark Ashlands. Fades between biomes like the fog.
  • Smoke Reducer: new section "Ashlands fire": fewer flame puffs and sparks from the spreading fire (burning ground and buildings), fainter smoke clouds rising from it and fewer puffs when it burns something (half each by default). Visual only: fires still choke on their smoke as before.

1.0.4

  • Fog Reducer: new slider "Ashlands - Mist particles" for the mist clouds the Ashlands weather adds on top of the fog (50% by default).
  • Fog Reducer: new section "Ashlands heat". "Heat haze in the air" removes the shimmering heat haze around you in the Ashlands that makes everything look smeared (0% by default). "Heat blur" removes the wobbly, blurred screen when you heat up in the Ashlands (0% by default, slider up to normal), "Heat screen effect" scales or switches off the whole heat screen effect. The heat and its damage are not changed.
  • Fog Reducer: new section "Caves and dungeons": "Morgen cave mist" for the thick drifting mist in the Ashlands' Morgen caves, "Dungeon haze" for the cloudy dust haze around you inside dungeons (both 50% by default).

1.0.3

  • Lag Meter: also times the lights' level of detail (was never measured), and no more "not found" warnings at startup.

1.0.2

  • A mod that is installed twice (on its own and inside this combined mod) now shows a message in the main menu, so you know to remove the separate one. Before, only the log said so.
  • Fixed: some separate mods were not noticed, so both copies ran at the same time. Now the copy in the combined mod always stays off until the separate one is removed.

1.0.1

  • Mod page: a short section for every mod, a link to the new wiki (every mod in detail, with all its settings), and a note that F1 needs a config manager mod (e.g. ConfigurationManager by shudnal). The mod itself is unchanged.

1.0.0

  • First release: the DigiTeam mods in this category combined into one, with an on/off switch per mod at the top of the settings.
