Odin's Ótti (Odin's Fear)
Odin's Ótti or The fear of Odin, is a dynamic group threat and combat avoidance system for Valheim.
Tired of annoying greydwarves throwing rocks at you while you are in endgame gear, or wild boars picking fights with an Ashlands god? Odin's Ótti makes weak, out-tiered, or outnumbered enemies choose Flight over Fight—calmly walking away and pathing around your party unless they are provoked, or feel brave enough in a large pack.
Features
- Avoidance Pathing (Flight): Outmatched enemies will calmly steer away and path around you and your companions rather than sprinting in panic or attacking.
- Dynamic Group Threat: Your threat rating is calculated in real-time based on your equipped armor, active weapon tiers, food buffs, health levels, and stamina levels. Nearby players in multiplayer and tamed combat pets (like wolves/lox) add to your collective party threat.
- Pack Courage Sums: Enemies calculate their courage based on the combined health pools of all allies within 20 meters. Starred enemies, larger packs, and tough monsters (like Trolls) feel much braver.
- Spawner Defense: Enemies defending a matching spawner in their home biome (e.g., Greydwarves near a Greydwarf Nest) receive a +50% courage boost, standing their ground to protect their homes.
- Combat Provocation: If you attack any member of a pack, the victim and all allies within 25 meters are instantly provoked. Fleeing behavior halts, and they will fight to the death.
- Combat Contagion: Alerted enemies wandering into an active battle zone will dynamically join their provoked allies instead of fleeing.
- Evasion Reset: If you run away, go through a portal, or break line-of-sight until the enemies lose target and calm down (
!IsAlerted), they will return to their normal routines and avoid you again next time. - Stealth Taming Exemption: Crouching (sneaking) completely disables your threat footprint. Unalerted animals will behave normally, eat food, and tame without being scared off.
- Tamed Pet Target Filters: Tamed companions ignore fleeing, unprovoked targets when Hunt Mode is OFF (preventing your wolves from chasing after boars), but hunt them down normally when Hunt Mode is ON (toggleable hotkey).
- Server Config Sync: Zero-dependency automatic configuration synchronization from the host/dedicated server to all connecting clients.
- Mindless Exclusions: Blacklisted pest or elemental entities (Deathsquitos, Surtlings, Skeletons, etc.) are completely exempt from fleeing and will always attack.
Controls
- Hunt Mode Toggle: Press the configured hotkey (default is
None/ customizable in config) to toggle your tamed pets' Hunt Mode betweenONandOFF.
Configuration
Odin's Ótti is highly customizable via BepInEx configurations (using r2modman or editing com.drakosdj.valheim.odinsotti.cfg):
- ThreatThreshold: The ratio of Player Threat to Enemy Courage at which enemies choose flight over fight (Default:
1.5). Lowering this makes enemies flee more easily. - MultiplayerRange: The radius (in meters) to scan for other players and companions to sum collective threat (Default:
100.0). - SpawnerDefenseMultiplier: The courage multiplier applied to creatures defending matching spawners (Default:
1.5/ $+50%$). - FleeBlacklist: Comma-separated list of creature prefabs that will never flee (Default:
Deathsquito, SeekerBrood, Volture, Skeleton, StoneGolem, Ghost, Wraith, Blob, Oozer, Surtling). - TamedCombatCompanions: Tamed prefabs considered combat pets that add to your threat footprint and respect Hunt Mode (Default:
Wolf, Lox, Askvin). - ShowDebugHud: Displays a debug overlay showing your active group threat in the top corner, and detailed courage/threat ratios when hovering over enemies (Default:
true).
