Magic Storage Valheim
Magic Storage adds a central storage network to Valheim. Put items into one shared system, search them from one place, craft using stored materials, expand the network with Storage Units, and later access it wirelessly.
This guide is intentionally spoiler-light. It explains how every Magic Storage item works without naming later bosses, biomes, or late-game progression steps.
Quick Start
- Build a Storage Core.
- Build one or more Storage Units near the Core.
- Look at the Core and press your Open Magic Storage key (G by default).
- Deposit items into the network.
- Use the Crafting tab to craft with materials stored in Magic Storage.
- As you progress, upgrade Storage Units for more capacity and make the Wireless Storage Remote for remote access.
- Make the Magic Storage Hammer to build normal structures using materials from your inventory and linked Magic Storage network together.
Storage Core
The Storage Core is the heart of a Magic Storage network. Storage Units near it become part of the same shared inventory.
How to make it
- 20 Fine Wood
- 5 Rubies
- 1 early-progression trophy
The trophy's identity is deliberately omitted here to avoid spoilers. Valheim will show the exact ingredient naturally once you have discovered it.
How to use it
Look at the Core from normal interaction distance and press your Open Magic Storage key (G by default). The Magic Storage window opens together with your player inventory.
The Core itself is the network controller; most of the actual item capacity comes from connected Storage Units.
Main tabs
Storage — Browse, search, filter, deposit, and withdraw items from the entire connected network.
Crafting — Craft using materials in Magic Storage. Nearby crafting stations and their real upgrade levels are respected, so Magic Storage does not bypass normal crafting progression.
Upgrade — Upgrade eligible equipment using the normal upgrade rules while allowing required materials to come from your inventory and Magic Storage.
Range button
The Core has a range display. Toggle it to show the area used by the storage network so you can see where connected Storage Units belong.
Storage Unit
A Storage Unit adds capacity to its nearby Storage Core.
How to make it
- 20 Wood
- 20 Stone
Build it within the Core's network area. You do not need to open each Unit individually; its contents are managed through the Storage Core interface.
Upgrading Storage Units
Storage Units can be upgraded in place as you progress. Interact with a Storage Unit and it will show the next available tier and the materials required.
The guide intentionally does not list every future tier or material so later progression remains a discovery. Upgrading increases the Unit's storage capacity and changes its appearance. Your stored items remain in the network.
Wireless Storage Remote
The Wireless Storage Remote lets you access a linked Storage Core without standing beside it, as long as the Core is within the Remote's current range.
How to make it
At a Workbench:
- 10 Fine Wood
- 2 Surtling Cores
- 5 Greydwarf Eyes
- 1 Bronze
Link the Remote
Carry the Remote, look at the Storage Core you want to link, then press Shift + your Open Magic Storage key.
Once linked, carrying the Remote allows your Open Magic Storage key to open that network when you are within its current wireless range.
Upgrade its range
Use Ctrl + Use on the Remote. When you have reached the appropriate point in normal Valheim progression and carry the required trophy, the Remote can consume it to increase its wireless range.
The Remote tells you what the next upgrade needs. This guide does not name the later trophies or ranges so it does not reveal future bosses or progression.
Magic Storage Hammer
The Magic Storage Hammer is a separate building hammer. It does not replace or modify Valheim's normal Hammer.
When you carry a linked Wireless Storage Remote and use the Magic Storage Hammer, normal build pieces can count materials from:
your inventory + your linked Magic Storage network
Your inventory is used first. Magic Storage supplies only the remaining shortfall.
How to make it
At a Workbench:
- 1 normal Hammer
- 2 Surtling Cores
- 5 Fine Wood
The normal Hammer can be anywhere in your inventory, including your hotbar, and will count toward the recipe.
How to use it
- Carry your linked Wireless Storage Remote.
- Equip the Magic Storage Hammer.
- Open the build menu normally.
- Select a build piece.
- Place it normally.
If some required materials are in your inventory and the rest are in Magic Storage, both sources are combined automatically. Normal recipe knowledge, crafting-station requirements, progression restrictions, and the Remote's range still apply.
If there is no valid linked storage connection, the Hammer falls back to normal carried-inventory behavior.
Hammer upgrades
The Magic Storage Hammer has real upgrade costs rather than free quality levels:
- Quality 2: 2 Surtling Cores + 10 Fine Wood
- Quality 3: 3 Surtling Cores + 15 Fine Wood
- Quality 4: 4 Surtling Cores + 20 Fine Wood
Upgrade materials can be supplied by your inventory and Magic Storage together.
Moving Items
From Magic Storage to your inventory
- Left Click a stored item: withdraw 1.
- Shift + Left Click a stored item: withdraw one normal game-defined stack, or as much as will safely fit.
From your inventory to Magic Storage
- Ctrl + Left Click while Magic Storage is open: quick-deposit that stack.
- Shift + Left Click: opens Valheim's normal split-stack dialog; choose the exact amount you want to deposit.
- Deposit All: deposits eligible inventory items while protecting your hotbar and favourites.
Transfers are capacity-safe; Magic Storage avoids removing an item from its source unless the destination can accept it.
Favourites
Use Alt + Left Click on an inventory item to mark or unmark it as a favourite.
Favourited stacks are protected from Deposit All. Your entire hotbar is also protected from Deposit All automatically.
You can still manually deposit a favourite when you actually want to move it.
Search and Categories
The Storage tab can search the whole network and filter items by category:
All · Materials · Food · Weapons · Armor · Tools · Ammo · Trophies · Misc
Search and category filtering work together and only affect what is displayed; they do not move or alter your stored items.
Crafting From Storage
Open the Core and choose Crafting.
Magic Storage checks the crafting stations actually available near the Core, including their upgrade levels. Recipes still follow Valheim's normal knowledge and progression rules.
Ingredients can come from Magic Storage, so you do not need to withdraw every material before crafting.
Upgrading Equipment From Storage
Open the Core and choose Upgrade.
Eligible equipment shows its current and next quality, required station, and materials. The Upgrade button only becomes available when the normal requirements are met.
Materials can be combined from your inventory and Magic Storage. The real item is upgraded; Magic Storage does not create a duplicate copy.
Multiplayer
Install the same Magic Storage version on the server and every player/client.
Magic Storage uses Valheim's networked container data so connected players see the same stored contents.
For manual installation, place MagicStorageValheim.dll in:

Impactful Skills compatibility
Magic Storage has optional, soft compatibility with Impactful Skills. Impactful Skills is not required.
- With Impactful Skills installed, successful cooking through the Storage Core participates in the cooking XP streak behavior.
- Without Impactful Skills, successful Core crafting and cooking still award the normal Magic Storage Crafting/Cooking XP path.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
1.4.9
- Storage Unit capacity synchronization: Restore the physical grid size of upgraded units after inventory reloads, avoiding a mismatch between displayed capacity and writable inventory slots. The correction does not rearrange stored stacks or force network ownership.
- Deposit All reporting: Display every refused stack and separately identify items intentionally protected as equipped, in the hotbar, or favourited. Detailed per-Storage-Unit rejection diagnostics appear in the BepInEx log.
- Core and Wireless Remote refresh: Rediscover connected storage each time Magic Storage opens, with a guarded single refresh-and-retry path for qualifying failed deposits.
- Sync Stacks: Merge compatible partial stacks within each individual Storage Unit; cross-unit consolidation is not included.
- Transfer safeguards: Retain checks against stale inventory references, inappropriate ownership changes, and unverified item transfers.
- Known warning: Valheim may log
Trying to add item to occupied slot -1, -1during deposits that nevertheless complete successfully. Item transfer counts are still checked.
1.4.8
- Refresh connected Storage Units on each Core or linked Wireless Remote open and after eligible deposit refusals.
- Restore upgraded Storage Units' physical inventory dimensions from their saved tier following inventory reloads. Runtime grid correction preserves item positions and does not force network ownership or a network save.
- Show the Deposit Report after Deposit All, including all failed stacks and separate explanations for protected hotbar, equipped, and favourite items.
- Add per-unit refusal diagnostics including actual physical capacity and
CanAddItemresults. - Add Sync Stacks to consolidate compatible stacks within a single Storage Unit (does not move stacks between units).
- Add safety checks around deposits, network ownership, stale references after salvage/recycle, and count verification to reduce the risk of loss or duplication.
1.4.7
- Fixed Wireless Storage Remote linking when holding Shift with the rebound Open Magic Storage key.
- Open Magic Storage now recognizes the configured main key even while extra modifiers are held.
- Settings rebinding no longer accidentally captures Shift, Ctrl, or Alt by themselves.
- Fixed a distance mismatch where a Storage Core could show the normal Open Magic Storage prompt but still be rejected by remote linking.
- Remote linking now uses the same Storage Core hover target and interaction-reach rules as normal Core opening.
- Includes the 1.4.5 Storage Unit resize/data-loss protections.
1.4.5
- Added Storage Unit resize safety to prevent stored item stacks from becoming invalid during tier changes, relogs, or server restarts.
- Storage Units now defer resizing while their networked tier is unavailable instead of temporarily forcing Basic size.
- Existing stacks that would fall outside a new grid are moved into valid slots before the resize.
- Unsafe resizes are blocked if all occupied stacks cannot be preserved.
- Added targeted storage-resize diagnostics to help identify any remaining item-loss cases.
1.4.4
- Fixed Storage Core network-capacity totals so upgraded Storage Units use their saved tier capacity correctly.
- Hardened the Open Magic Storage keybind row against heavily modded Keyboard & Mouse settings UIs.
- Added Crafting and Cooking skill XP for successful crafts made through the Storage Core.
- Added soft compatibility for Impactful Skills: Magic Storage cooking participates in the cooking XP streak when Impactful Skills is installed, while normal XP remains available without it.
- Preserved the 1.4.3 Wireless Remote rebinding and search + Shift-click withdrawal fixes.
1.4.3
- Fixed Wireless Storage Remote linking so Shift + the rebound Open Magic Storage key works correctly instead of depending on G.
- Fixed Shift-click stack withdrawal after using the storage search box.
- Search results now preserve normal click = withdraw 1 and Shift-click = withdraw one normal Valheim stack.
1.4.2
- Changed the base Storage Unit recipe to 20 Wood + 20 Stone.
- Increased Storage Unit capacity across its upgrade tiers.
- Fixed dismantling upgraded Storage Units so completed upgrade materials are refunded along with the base construction materials.
- Added Open Magic Storage to the Keyboard & Mouse settings with G as the default binding.
- Fixed rebinding so the newly selected key is used by Magic Storage immediately.
- Improved key capture for the Magic Storage control in Settings.
1.4.0 Hotfix (Thunderstore 1.4.1)
- Hotfix release for the 1.4.0 line.
- Uses the newly tested Magic Storage DLL.
- No intentional feature/version-line change from 1.4.0; this package exists so the hotfix can be published on Thunderstore.
1.4.0
- Added an in-game spoiler-free tutorial accessible before owning Magic Storage and from the Magic Storage UI.
- Localized the new tutorial and Magic Storage Hammer text across the mod's supported languages, with English fallback where needed.
