Gersemi
Custom gear for the Guys Being Vikings server.
A gersemi is a treasure, something kept and handed on rather than spent. This mod is where the server's own items live.
The Muspelhelm
A horned war helm, made to mark the 2026 server launch.
A blackened iron cap under a gold brow band that sweeps down over the eyes, with two ridged horns swept up and back. While you wear it the horns burn along their whole length and throw embers that cool as they rise. The band glows faintly and a small light at the brow means the helm casts a little of itself at night.
It gives no real benefit. One armour, the same as a cape, so wearing it is neither a penalty nor a shortcut. It never breaks, cannot be upgraded and cannot be sold.
Forged for the first landing of the Guys Being Vikings, in the year 2026. The horns still carry sparks from the fire the world was lit with.
Worth nothing in a fight. Worth something to whoever was there.
How to get one
They are handed out. There is no recipe and nothing drops one, so ask whoever runs your server.
Using the look on another helmet
If you have Huskarl, holding a Muspelhelm once is enough. Any Guise trader will then offer its look for any helmet you own, so you can keep your real armour and still wear the horns. The fire comes with it, and other players see it too.
Install
Install on the client and the server both. The helm is a custom item, so a machine without Gersemi cannot make sense of one lying on the ground and it will disappear when the area reloads.
The fire
Four colours are available, set with Colour:
Ember |
white-hot to orange (default) |
Muspel |
blue-white |
Wyrd |
green |
Draugr |
violet |
The helm can also borrow its fire from one of the game's own weapons. Set BorrowFrom to a
weapon's name, or to any to use the best one your install has. A borrowed effect is recoloured to
match your chosen colour unless you turn Recolour off.
Settings
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
Colour |
Which of the four colours the fire burns. |
BorrowFrom |
Take the fire from a named weapon, or any. Empty uses Gersemi's own. |
Recolour |
Whether a borrowed effect follows your chosen colour. |
Rate |
How much fire. 1 is the shipped amount. |
BorrowBrightness |
Lower if a borrowed effect looks washed out, higher if it looks thin. |
BrowGlow, BrowLight |
The glow in the band and the light at the brow. |
IronColor, TrimColor, HornColor |
Repaint the helm itself. |
Fit |
Adjusts how the helm sits. You should not need to touch these. |
To use your own model, put an .obj or .glb named muspelhelm in BepInEx\config\Gersemi\.
Commands
For admins, in the console:
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
gersemi give |
Puts a Muspelhelm in your pack. |
gersemi colour <name> |
Changes the fire's colour. |
gersemi fx |
Lists weapons whose fire can be borrowed. |
gersemi fx <name> |

gersemi fit <...> |
Adjusts how the helm sits. |
gersemi probe |

Credits
Built for Guys Being Vikings. The helm's shape, its icon and its own fire are generated by the mod; no artwork is copied from Valheim or any other mod. A borrowed effect uses the game's own particle art at runtime on your own machine, and none of it is redistributed.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
0.1.4
Fixed
- The horns no longer have a scatter of dots across them.
0.1.3
Changed
- The helm now burns with the Frostfire Dagger's fire by default, recoloured to match. Without that weapon installed it uses its own fire instead, so nothing new is needed.
- Existing installs are moved to the new default once, unless you had already chosen your own.
0.1.2
Fixed
- Settings changed in the in-game config window now apply straight away. Before, only the console commands took effect and the settings window appeared to do nothing.
- The top of the helm no longer flickers in blocks of colour as you move.
0.1.1
Text only. The mod itself is unchanged from 0.1.0.
Changed
- Rewrote the readme to describe the mod rather than a single item.
- Rewrote the store description to match.
