Njord, Warehouse Keeper
Njord is a warehouse keeper you place with the hammer. Talk to him, and the items in nearby chests appear together. Take a stack from the list and it comes out of the chest it actually sits in. Deposit, and it goes to an existing pile of the same thing, or into the first empty slot the network has.
He keeps no goods of his own. If nowhere nearby will take what you send, it stays in your pack.
Because he is a buildable piece, the mod must be installed on the server and on every client. A client whose version does not match the server's is refused.
If EpicLoot is also installed, listed magic items, runestones, and crafting materials tint the row with that mod's rarity colour. The inventory slot frame is not drawn on Njord's list. EpicLoot is optional.
Installation
Drop NjordWarehouseKeeper.dll into BepInEx/plugins, or install the zip with a
mod manager. Requires Jötunn.

Building one
| Cost | Where |
|---|---|
| 200 gold coins | Hammer, Furniture |
No workbench, and no other materials. Place him like any furniture. He stands where you put him, in a leather tunic and pants, and will remark on the stores now and then the way a vendor does.
Using it
Walk up and press use. Your inventory stays on the left. Vanilla crafting on the right is hidden; Njord's recipe panel opens in that slot, and his item list opens in the center. The cog still opens Preferences. Identical items from different chests share one row. Hover a row the same way you hover a pack slot: keep the cursor still for a moment and the vanilla item tooltip appears in front of the list, so the scroll mask does not crop it.
- Click a row to pick up one stack and drag it, the same as a chest slot. If the stores have enough to fill a complete stack, that is what you pick up, not a leftover pile from the first chest that happens to hold some.
- Ctrl-click a row to take as much of that item as your pack will hold.
- Shift-click a row to pick how many to take.
- Click the star on a listed row, or on an item in your own pack, to mark that item as a favourite. Weapons, armour, and tools star as that specific piece; stacking goods still share one star. The pack star is there whenever inventory is open (Tab included), not only while talking to Njord. The Favourites category lists only starred items. The star next to the sort buttons filters the current category the same way.
- Click an item in your inventory, then click the panel (or a row) to store it. Dropping on a row stores the dragged item; it does not withdraw.
- Shift-click an item in your inventory, or press Deposit, to send it into the network. The hotbar is left alone unless you turn that on in config.
- Resupply fills your pack from nearby chests up to the counts set in Preferences.
- Quick Stack deposits and then resupplies in one click.
- Recipes sit in the right-hand panel, in place of vanilla crafting. A dropdown at the top picks a station (All, Handcraft, Hammer, and every crafting bench in the game). Search under the dropdown filters the list by name. The list is the same Craft tab that bench would show: known crafts, upgrade-only recipes skipped, missing requirements greyed and at the bottom. Hammer pieces stay under Hammer. The right side shows the item, its tooltip, and the ingredient slots. Withdraw pulls those ingredients into your pack; a greyed recipe still takes whatever is there. Hover an ingredient to see have / need. Vanilla crafting comes back when you leave Njord, including Tab inventory, handcraft, and every workbench.
- The cog opens client Preferences. Settings holds ignore favourite items on deposit, the Deposit+Resupply hotkey, and Reorganize. Resupply has its own search and the list of items to keep in your pack, with a quantity for each.
- While in range of Njord (the same radius as the network), the hotkey deposits and then resupplies without talking to him.
- Click the search box to type. It keeps focus, so E does not close the panel.
- Hold use, the same as a vanilla chest, to stack everything that will fit.
- From time to time Njord merges leftover piles of the same item in nearby chests so they occupy as few slots as they can. Full stacks stay put. Chests someone already has open are left alone. The interval is in config, and a Reorganize button in Preferences runs the same tidy immediately.
Chests behind a ward you cannot pass, private chests that are not yours, chests someone else already has open, other keepers, and incinerators are left out of the scan.
Configuration
BepInEx/config/com.gitmcp.njord.cfg is written on first launch. The
server's values for radius, line of sight, the hotbar, and reorganize are
authoritative and are synced to clients. Favourites, Resupply, and the
deposit-skip toggle are client-only and stay on that machine.

How it works
Valheim chests already sync through a ZDO: the owner writes the inventory blob, everyone else loads it. Opening a chest is an RPC that hands ownership to the player, which is why two people cannot rummage the same box at once.
Njord does not copy those stacks into a fake inventory. He reads the chests that
are already loaded around him, lists the live ItemData, and when you take or
deposit he calls Inventory.MoveItemToThis after ZNetView.ClaimOwnership,
the same claim Take All uses. The item changes chest only once, on the peer that
now owns that ZDO. Talking to him does not lock him to one player, and does not
steal his ZDO: several people can have the panel open at once. Nearby chests
that someone already has open in the vanilla GUI are still left out of the scan.
When nobody is rummaging a chest, Njord periodically merges leftover piles of the same item so they take as few slots as they can. Only the peer that owns his ZDO does that pass, so two clients do not tidy the same hall at once.
Walking away still closes the panel, because the game still treats talking to Njord as having a container open.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
1.3.3
Recipe ingredient icons no longer turn into white squares after leaving a world and talking to Njord again without quitting the game. The old slot widgets were destroyed with the inventory canvas, but the plugin still held them; binding then threw and search stopped updating. The recipe panel forgets those references and rebuilds clean slots.
1.3.2
Item-row quantities with four or more digits stay on one line. The count
label is wide enough for x plus five digits and no longer wraps under
the dress button.
Closing the panel now clears search, category, the favourites filter, and sort. That is a Preferences toggle, on by default. Turn it off to keep the last filters the next time you talk to Njord. The previous sort button no longer stays highlighted after that reset.
1.3.1
Njord follows the language selected in Valheim. UI, dialogue, build-piece text, and status messages are embedded JSON catalogs. Russian comes from community pull request #21. Catalogs also cover Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Polish, Ukrainian, Italian, Turkish, Japanese, and Korean. Registration happens in Awake so the selected language applies instead of falling back to English. Changing language while a world is loaded rewrites the already-built panel the same way vanilla UI does.
1.3.0
Njord can be dressed from the item list. Equipable rows show a small dress button (a drawn shirt, same style as the favourite star) to the right of the name, before the quantity. Click it and he wears that piece; the item stays in the chest. One look per slot — helmet, chest, legs, cape, belt, trinket, and each hand. Dressing another item of the same slot replaces the last. Click the button again to take that piece off. Empty slots fall back to rags, no cloak, and a wooden club and wooden shield.
Press R while talking to him or hovering him to draw or sheathe his weapons. The hover text is Draw weapons or Sheathe Weapons.
Now and then he waves, flexes, or otherwise fidgets in place without walking off the spot.
The piece still registers if dressing the preview mesh fails, so already placed Njords and the hammer recipe do not vanish.
1.2.2
Favourite stars on pack slots. Open inventory (Tab, or while talking to Njord) and click the star on an occupied slot to mark that item the same way the list star does. Deposit skip and the Favourites filter both see it. Chest slots are left alone. The preferences toggle is now Ignore favourite items on deposit and defaults to on. Starring a weapon, armour piece, or tool marks that specific item, not every other copy of the same kind.
If EpicLoot is installed, listed magic items use that mod's rarity colours on the row (and unique names stay separate). The inventory slot-frame sprite is not drawn on Njord's list. Item tooltips now draw above the list so the scroll mask no longer crops them.
Search on both panels clears when Njord closes, so the next talk starts with every item listed. An X on the right of each search box clears the filter. Favourite stars sit in the upper-left corner. The item panel is taller so more rows fit; the list fills that height, stays clipped inside the wood, and its scrollbar travels the full track. Preferences is split into Settings (skip favourites, hotkey, Reorganize) and Resupply (search and the keep-in-pack list).
A full store now says so when you drop or shift-click an item, not only when you press Deposit.
1.2.1
Deposit works again on Valheim 1.0.15. FindFreeStackItem no longer takes
whether the stack is cheated; the game now merges those piles and marks the
destination if a cheated item lands on it.
1.2.0
Talking to Njord no longer shows the vanilla crafting column. A wood panel sits in that slot instead, listing the same Craft-tab recipes each bench would, so Withdraw pulls those ingredients.
Recipe panel (right)
- Station dropdown in place of CRAFT / UPGRADE (All, Handcraft, Hammer, and every crafting bench)
- Known recipes listed like the Forge: compact rows, orange when selected, missing ingredients greyed and at the bottom
- Search box under the station dropdown filters by item name
- Each row is that item's craft recipe at the chosen station (upgrade-only recipes are skipped; hammer pieces stay under Hammer)
- Detail view with icon, name, tooltip, and ingredient slots
- Withdraw pulls those ingredients into the pack; greyed recipes still take whatever the stores have
Items panel (center)
- Items list only; the Items / Recipes tab buttons are gone
- Click-to-drag picks a complete stack when nearby chests have enough to fill one, instead of the leftover pile in the first chest scanned
Auto-reorganize
- On a timer, Njord merges leftover piles of the same item so they occupy as few chest slots as possible
- Full stacks and chests someone already has open are left alone
- Config:
Njord / Reorganize(default on) andNjord / ReorganizeInterval(default 60s) - Preferences has a Reorganize button that runs the same tidy immediately
Vanilla crafting is hidden only while talking to Njord. Closing the talk, walking away, or opening inventory with Tab restores the default craft panel for handcraft and every bench.
1.1.1
Deposit works again on Valheim 1.0.14. The game now refuses to merge cheated
stacks with regular ones, and FindFreeStackItem gained that extra argument.
1.1.0
Click a listed item to pick up one stack and drag it, the same as a chest slot. Ctrl-click takes as much of that item as the pack will hold. Several people can talk to Njord at the same time; he is not locked to one player. On the Recipes tab, hover a craft to see each ingredient with have / need. Click a greyed-out row to take whatever of those ingredients the stores have.
1.0.0
First release as Njord, Warehouse Keeper.
Njord is a warehouse keeper you place with the hammer for 200 gold coins. No other materials, and no workbench. He uses the player mesh in a leather tunic and pants, stays where you put him, and talks like a vendor: a greeting when you walk up, a line now and then while you linger, a goodbye when you leave. Look at his torso or head to talk to him.
He has no storage of his own. Nearby chests are the stores. Talk to him and their items appear together. Take a stack from the list and it comes out of the chest it actually sits in. Deposit, and it goes to an existing pile of the same thing, or into the first empty slot the network has. If nowhere nearby will take what you send, it stays in your pack.
Favourites, a client preferences tab, and Resupply. Star an item in the list to pin it. The Favourites category and the star filter show only those items. The cog opens client-only settings: skip favourites when depositing everything, a Deposit+Resupply hotkey used while in range of Njord, and a Resupply list of items and counts to keep in the pack. The panel uses Items and Recipes tabs; Items keeps search, categories, and sort, Recipes lists known crafts and withdraws their ingredients when nearby chests have enough. A station dropdown filters by All, Handcraft, Hammer, or any crafting station. Deposit, Resupply, and Quick Stack (deposit then resupply) sit above the filters. Rows show the vanilla item tooltip after the cursor and the row have stayed still for a moment, so scrolling the list does not flash tips.
