README

Master Rings

Master Rings adds four boss-themed Utility rings to Valheim. Each ring is crafted from the trophy of a defeated boss and is designed to make returning to that boss's biome feel like you have truly mastered it.

The rings provide regional bonuses in their associated biome, while some also grant unique powers wherever they are worn. They are intentionally strong quality-of-life rewards: you defeated the ruler of the biome, and now you carry a piece of that power with you.

This is my first Valheim mod. Feedback and multiplayer testing are welcome.

English

Shared biome bonuses

While wearing the matching ring in its biome:

  • +10% walking and running speed on natural terrain.
  • -10% stamina consumption.
  • The movement bonus does not apply on constructed floors, dirt paths or paved roads, to avoid excessive stacking with path-speed mods.
  • The stamina bonus remains active on those surfaces.
  • No movement bonus is applied while sneaking/crouching.

Meadows Lord Ring

"He ruled the Meadows without equal."

Crafting: Workbench level 1

Recipe:

  • 1 Eikthyr Trophy
  • 4 Tin
  • 2 Copper
  • 2 Amber

In the Meadows:

  • +10% movement speed
  • -10% stamina consumption
  • +20% damage to Deer, Boars, Necks and Greylings
  • +20 Crafting

Sylvian Ring

"The forest will bloom again."

Crafting: Workbench level 2

Recipe:

  • 1 The Elder Trophy
  • 4 Root
  • 1 Thistle
  • 4 Acorn

In the Black Forest:

  • +10% movement speed
  • -10% stamina consumption
  • +20 Farming

Unique powers:

  • Greydwarfs and Greylings within 100 m of a Sylvian Ring wearer become peaceful toward all players and player-friendly/tamed creatures. The effect is dynamic and does not permanently tame or alter them.
  • While wearing the ring, felling a Beech, Birch, Fir, Oak or Pine adds one extra corresponding seed or cone. The normal vanilla tree loot remains unchanged, so Resin, Feathers and naturally rolled seeds still drop normally.

Dreadful Ring

"A kingdom of slime and mud."

Crafting: Workbench level 3

Recipe:

  • 1 Bonemass Trophy
  • 4 Ruby
  • 10 Obsidian
  • 10 Bone Fragments

While equipped:

  • Very Resistant to Poison using Valheim's native damage modifier
  • Waterproof: immune to the Wet effect
  • Necromancer: nearby Skeletons within 20 m become temporary allies, peaceful toward all players and player-friendly/tamed creatures, and fight hostile creatures. Bound Skeletons remain allied even if the ring is removed and die after 30 seconds. Brenna is excluded.

In the Swamp:

  • +10% movement speed
  • -10% stamina consumption

Wind Master Ring

"The Dragon Queen's last breath."

Crafting: Workbench level 4

Recipe:

  • 1 Moder Trophy
  • 1 Amber Pearl
  • 12 Serpent Scales

While equipped:

  • Very Resistant to Frost using Valheim's native damage modifier
  • When sailing, the wind turns in your favor

In the Mountains:

  • +10% movement speed
  • -10% stamina consumption

Installation / Requirements

Requires BepInExPack Valheim and Jötunn. Install through a Thunderstore-compatible mod manager, or place MasterRings.dll in your BepInEx plugins folder with the required dependencies installed.

For multiplayer, use the mod on the server and participating clients so gameplay behavior and content remain consistent.

Compatibility notes

Master Rings does not modify creature spawn tables. Sylvian pacification is evaluated dynamically and does not tame Greydwarfs or permanently alter their faction. Its tree-seed power adds one extra seed/cone without replacing or modifying the vanilla tree loot table.

The natural-terrain movement bonus intentionally avoids constructed floors and paths, making it friendlier to mods such as Speedy Paths.

Version 1.0

The four rings and their core mechanics are now included in the 1.0 release. Multiplayer behavior should use the mod on the server and participating clients; further compatibility feedback is welcome.

Enjoy, and may the trophies of the Forsaken finally be worth carrying home.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.2.1

  • Fixed a startup patch failure that prevented the Sylvian Greydwarf peace and Dreadful Skeleton alliance patches from loading.
  • Wet immunity now discovers and patches either Valheim SEMan.AddStatusEffect API shape at runtime: string-name or integer-hash.
  • Installed the Wet compatibility patch separately so a future Wet API mismatch cannot disable the remaining MasterRings patches.

1.2.0

  • Added the dedicated Plains regional status icon for the Lich King Ring.
  • Dreadful Ring now rejects Wet before it enters the player's status-effect list, eliminating the repeated Add/Remove cycle under rain or in water.
  • Equipping Dreadful while already Wet removes the existing effect once; removing the ring immediately restores vanilla Wet behavior.
  • Includes the optimized multiplayer, ground-detection, stamina and Tared corrections developed throughout the 1.1 test series.

1.1.3 GROUND FIX TEST

  • Replaced the invalid Player.GetGroundMaterial reflection with Valheim 1.0.16's actual Character.GetLastGroundCollider and Heightmap.GetPaintMask APIs.
  • Detects player-built floors through their parent Piece.
  • Detects dirt paths from the paint mask red channel and paved roads from the blue channel, using stable 3×3 sampling.
  • Applies the same natural-ground-only movement rule to all five regional Master Rings.
  • Removes the repeated HarmonyX GetGroundMaterial warnings from the game log.
  • Leaves the regional stamina reduction active on every surface.

1.1.2 OPTIMIZED TEST

  • Fixed the Sylvian seed gift on trees owned by another multiplayer peer by tracking the attacker inside the authoritative TreeBase.RPC_Damage path.
  • Limited Lich fatal-hit tracking to eligible victims killed by a current Lich King Ring wearer and expires stale entries after 30 seconds.
  • Cached equipped MasterRing state, terrain state, creature classification, remote aura flags and ZDO reflection metadata.
  • Reduced bound-Skeleton discovery scans and processes expiry from a tracked collection.
  • Reordered building-protection checks so ordinary attackers avoid component searches.
  • Reduced embedded icons to 256×256, caches duplicate icon loads, releases CPU pixel data and skips texture loading on dedicated servers.
  • Reapplies localization when the selected language changes in game.
  • Added a diagnostics configuration toggle and corrected the obsolete four-ring README text.

1.1.1 HOTFIX TEST

  • Moved the common regional stamina reduction into Valheim 1.0.16's native StatusEffect cost modifiers for Run, Jump, Attack, Block, Dodge, Swim, HomeItem and Sneak.
  • Removed the ineffective RPC_UseStamina interception, ensuring each supported action cost is multiplied by 0.90 exactly once.
  • Neutralized only Tared's movement-speed modifier for a Lich King Ring wearer in the Plains.
  • Left all ring powers, recipes, visuals, exclusivity and Lich Skeleton mechanics unchanged.

1.1.0 TEST

  • Added the Lich King Ring with Workbench level 5 recipe, native Very Resistant Fire modifier, Plains bonuses, tar-slow immunity and hidden necromancy mechanics.
  • Enforced one equipped MasterRing at a time without touching other Utility items, including a repair pass for invalid multi-ring states.
  • Replaced all five ring icons with the supplied visual update.
  • Set each cloned MasterRing's private item value to zero while preserving the AmberPearl world model and vanilla AmberPearl data.
  • Added owner-authoritative, one-per-death Skeleton resurrection with explicit prefab whitelist/exclusions, inherited max health, death-point biome damage tier, networked alliance and expiry.

1.0.1

  • Redrawn all eight ring and biome icons in a simplified 8-bit pixel-art style, with point filtering in game.
  • Greydwarfs/Greylings inside the Sylvian aura and bound Skeletons no longer select player-built structures as targets; existing building targets are cleared.
  • Prevented their direct and collateral damage to player-built structures, both before sending damage and on the network owner.
  • Fixed the bound Skeleton network flag using the string-key ZDO overload, so other peers can recognize the alliance.
  • Wild creatures outside the aura, unbound Skeletons, environmental wear and damage from other attackers retain their normal behavior.

1.0.0

  • First full release of Master Rings.
  • Four boss-crafted Utility rings: Meadows Lord, Sylvian, Dreadful and Wind Master.
  • Biome-specific movement and stamina bonuses.
  • Meadows animal damage and Crafting bonuses.
  • Sylvian Black Forest Farming bonus.
  • Sylvian 100 m Greydwarf/Grayling pacification shared with all players and player-friendly/tamed creatures.
  • Sylvian adds one extra corresponding seed/cone when the wearer fells Beech, Birch, Fir, Oak or Pine, without modifying vanilla tree loot.
  • Dreadful native poison resistance, Wet immunity and 30-second Skeleton allies shared safely with players and player-friendly/tamed creatures.
  • Wind Master native frost resistance and favorable sailing wind.
  • English and French localization and separate regional status-effect icons.
