This mod requires the following mods to function
ValheimModding-Jotunn
Jötunn (/ˈjɔːtʊn/, 'giant'), the Valheim Library was created with the goal of making the lives of mod developers easier. It enables you to create mods for Valheim using an abstracted API so you can focus on the actual content creation.
Preferred version: 2.30.2denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim
BepInEx pack for Valheim. Preconfigured with the correct entry point for mods and preferred defaults for the community.
Preferred version: 5.4.2351README
Viking Meals
Cook enough to share. Viking Meals gives prepared food more sensible batch sizes, with Balanced enabled by default. Keep Valheim's ingredients and progression, and spend less time gathering for every serving.
Choose your appetite
| Preset | Meals | Soups, stews, broth and porridge |
|---|---|---|
| Light | 1.5x servings | 2x servings |
| Balanced — default | 2x servings | 3x servings |
| Generous | 3x servings | 4x servings |
Yields round up to whole items and normally stop at one inventory stack. A recipe already yielding more than one stack keeps at least its original quantity automatically. Ingredients retain their original costs unless you set a recipe override. These are gameplay balance presets, not a claim of real-world nutritional accuracy.
Examples from Valheim 1.0.20 with Balanced: carrot soup 1 → 3, sausages 4 → 8, queen's jam 4 → 8, and bread dough 2 → 4. Each uses the same ingredients as its original recipe.
Health, stamina, eitr, food duration, unlocks, crafting stations and station levels stay unchanged. Ordinary spit cooking still turns one piece of meat into one cooked piece. Oven preparation recipes produce extra uncooked portions; baking itself remains one-to-one. Mead bases and quality-dependent, single-ingredient recipes are excluded.
The mod recognizes recipes producing edible items and prepared items that a loaded cooking station converts into food. Compatible modded food recipes can therefore be affected too. Pot classification uses the output prefab name containing Soup, Stew, Broth or Porridge; other prepared foods use the meal multiplier. This first release uses yield adjustments rather than a hand-authored ingredient rebalance for every dish.
Native Valheim interface
Click Viking Meals at the main menu, or press F7 in game. The panel uses Valheim wood, Averia Serif text and native buttons, matching the JustQOL Viking mods. Escape or Close returns to the game.
Choose a preset at the main menu before starting a local world. The in-world panel shows the active settings; gameplay controls there are read-only. The F7 shortcut is configurable.
Installation
Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. Dependencies are BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351 and Jotunn 2.30.2.
For manual installation, merge the package's BepInEx folder into the game directory with those dependencies installed. The plugin belongs at BepInEx/plugins/VikingMeals/VikingMeals.dll.
Install the same Viking Meals version on the server and every client. Server gameplay configuration is synchronized by Jotunn. Stop the server, edit its configuration, restart it and reconnect all clients after changes. This mod does not provide an anti-cheat guarantee against modified clients.
Configuration and recipe overrides
First launch creates BepInEx/config/com.justqol.vikingmeals.cfg.
[Server]
Enabled = true
Preset = Balanced
RecipeOverrides =
[Interface]
OpenMenu = F7
Overrides use prefab names, absolute quantities from 1 to 100, and semicolons between entries:
RecipeOverrides = CarrotSoup=6;CarrotSoup:Carrot=2
This makes CarrotSoup yield six servings and use two carrots; its other ingredient costs remain original. Output is capped to the recipe's stack limit. Overrides only apply to eligible food recipes, never equipment or mead bases. Ingredient costs cannot be zero. Duplicate or malformed overrides are rejected as a group; the selected preset remains active without overrides and a warning is logged.
Set Enabled = false and restart to restore original quantities. Removing the plugin and restarting also restores normal crafting. Already-crafted food remains in your inventory.
Compatibility and verification
Built against Valheim 1.0.20, Unity 6, BepInExPack 5.4.2351 and Jotunn 2.30.2. Other mods that rewrite the same recipes may conflict; their final results depend on load timing. Recipes with special quality-based output are deliberately skipped.
See VERIFICATION.md for the exact tests and remaining limitations. Do not interpret a successful build or upload as proof of every mod combination or live dedicated-server compatibility.
