This mod requires the following mods to function
denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim
BepInEx pack for Valheim. Preconfigured with the correct entry point for mods and preferred defaults for the community.
Preferred version: 5.4.2351README
SuperSampling (DSR)
Render Valheim's world at a higher resolution, then downsample it for smoother distant edges while the HUD and menus keep their normal output resolution.
Client only. No server installation is needed. Requires BepInExPack Valheim. This release targets Valheim 1.0.16 with Unity 6000.0.75f1.
Quick start
- Import this ZIP into your mod manager, or copy its
BepInExfolder into the game folder. - Launch the modded game and press F8.
- Select In-Game, choose 150%, and apply.
- Lower the scale if performance drops. Select Off to return to the game's rendering settings.
Higher scales use more GPU time and memory. The scale applies to both dimensions: 150% renders 2.25 times as many pixels; 200% renders four times as many.
| Game output | Scale | World rendering | HUD and output |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1280 × 720 | 150% | 1920 × 1080 | 1280 × 720 |
| 1920 × 1080 | 200% | 3840 × 2160 | 1920 × 1080 |
| 3840 × 2160 | 200% | 7680 × 4320 | 3840 × 2160 |
Custom scales from 100% to 300% are supported, including decimals. Targets must fit the GPU's texture limit and the mod's 67,108,864-pixel cap. 4K at 200% fits that cap; 4K at 300% exceeds it. In-Game mode does not require an NVIDIA GPU.
Controls
| Shortcut | Action |
|---|---|
| F8 | Open or close settings |
| Left Ctrl + F8 | Emergency Off and display restoration |
| Escape in settings | Close settings and revert an unconfirmed display change |
Change shortcuts in BepInEx/config/mods.valheim.supersampling.cfg. AzuCraftyBoxes Fixes & Config also uses F8; remap one shortcut if both are installed.
Optional System DSR
Enable DSR/DLDSR in your driver's settings first, then select System DSR in the mod. Check the monitor's native reference, refresh the resolution list, and choose a higher mode. Select Keep within 15 seconds after it applies, or the mod requests the previous mode.
System DSR uses Windows exclusive fullscreen and resolutions the system already exposes. It cannot enable driver factors or identify whether a listed mode uses DSR, DLDSR or another driver feature. In-Game mode works without changing the display mode.
Keep UI at native size compensates Valheim's UI scaling during System DSR. Other mods with independent UI systems may need their own settings. Correct the native reference if your desktop already uses DSR or you change monitors.
Recovery and support
Display changes are saved to a recovery file before switching. Version 0.1.4 preserves the previous recovery file if a replacement write fails and improves cleanup when the plugin is disabled or display restoration fails. DSR is selected manually each launch; In-Game mode can resume automatically.
An unresponsive mode gets a 20-second application timeout. A saved recovery record remains until restoration is verified. After an interrupted DSR session, launch once with the mod still installed to restore the display before uninstalling.
In-Game rendering at 150% has been verified in a graphical client on Valheim 1.0.16. Driver DSR/DLDSR switching, VR, Vulkan and other framebuffer replacement mods have not been fully tested. Use the diagnostics panel to write a report if rendering fails, and include BepInEx/LogOutput.log when reporting a problem.
To update, close Valheim and replace BepInEx/plugins/ValheimSupersampling/ValheimSupersampling.dll; keep only one copy. Your configuration is retained. License and credits are included in LICENSE.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
0.1.4
- Write display recovery atomically so failed updates preserve the last complete journal.
- Release input/rendering hooks if disabled during startup; continue cleanup when display restoration fails.
- Refresh descriptions and game API checks for Valheim 1.0.16. Rendering appearance is unchanged.
0.1.3
- Clarify that render scale starts from the current game output, including 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 4K, ultrawide and custom sizes.
- Replace the mostly 1080p examples with a range of starting resolutions, including 4K to 8K.
- Clarify render-size limits and how system DSR choices depend on the native reference and driver.
- Documentation and version metadata update only; rendering behavior is unchanged.
0.1.2
- Rename the Thunderstore package to SuperSampling_DSR and the in-game/README title to SuperSampling (DSR).
- Retain the plugin ID, DLL path and configuration so existing settings continue to work.
- Rendering behavior is unchanged from 0.1.1.
0.1.1
- Update the build target to Valheim 1.0.12 reference APIs and Unity 6000.0.75f1.
- Update the Thunderstore dependency to BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350.
- Share exact framebuffer, UI and input member requirements between runtime bindings and offline checks. Validate field types, parameter types, return types, and static/instance status.
- Resolve input hooks by their complete signatures and catch binding failures during startup.
- Remove an adapter's own patches if its installation fails.
- Include the reference target and loaded BepInEx version in diagnostics.
- Add a game API check to the Windows build script and derive the ZIP version from the manifest.
- Preserve plugin identity, configuration keys, shortcuts and both rendering modes.
- Zero compiler errors/warnings; 43 logic checks and 21 API checks passed.
- Public references have stripped method bodies. Live Valheim/GPU and DSR validation remain pending.

- F8 settings with render/output dimensions.
- Optional system DSR resolution selection and native-size UI compensation.
- Timed confirmation, recovery journal, emergency Off, and diagnostics.
- Compiled with Unity 6000.0.61 references and BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2333.
- 43 automated logic checks passed. Live Valheim/GPU validation is pending.
