✅ Recommended Plugins:

❌ Known Conflicts:

  • NoHoeDust by Azumatt - Dirty Hoe already removes the effect.

⭐ Terrain Modifications:

  • Smooth Terrain
  • Flatten Terrain
  • Lower Terrain
  • Raise Terrain
  • Cultivate Smooth
  • Cultivate Flat
  • Paved Road Smooth
  • Paved Road Flat
  • Mud Path
  • Terrain Ramp

⭐ Terrain Ramp:

  • Select Terrain Ramp from the hoe menu, then click a start point, click an end point, and move the cursor sideways to choose the width. Click a third time to build.
  • The ground between the two points is cut or filled into a straight slope, and the edges are blended back into the surrounding terrain.
  • The preview turns red when the ramp is too steep, too big, or beyond the terrain height limit.
  • Scroll the mouse wheel while the ramp is selected to choose the paint for the ramp surface (None, Dirt, Cultivated, Paved or Grass). The choice is also in the config as Ramp Paint and can be changed live.
  • Press the Step Back key (default Z) to undo a point while placing.
  • Max slope, width limits, shoulder width and size limit are in the config under Ramp Settings.

⭐ Paint Modifications:

  • Paint Dirt
  • Paint Pave
  • Paint Grass
  • Paint Cultivate
  • Clutter brushes: the Paint category also has a brush for each kind of clutter the game scatters over the ground. Click to paint that clutter inside the brush circle.
  • Clear Clutter: erases painted clutter inside the brush circle.
  • Clear Forestry: removes trees, stumps, shrubs, rocks and pickables inside the brush circle, like the remove_forestry console command. Nothing is dropped, and wards are respected. Uses the Hoe Radius controls below. Off by default; turn it on in the config (General Settings, Enable Clear Forestry Tool).
  • Clutter brushes use the Hoe Radius controls below. The Brush Density setting (config, Clutter Brush Density) sets how thickly they paint.

⭐ Hoe Radius:

  • Allows you to modify the size of land affected by the dirty hoe by holding down an optional modifier key (default Left Alt) and scrolling with the mouse, or pressing one of two customizable hotkeys (default disabled).

⭐ Terrain Reset:

  • To reset terrain using the dirty hoe hold down the modifier key (default Left Ctrl and Left Click).
  • resetterrain [radius] is also available in the console. i.e. resetterrain 10 would reset terrain in a 10m radius.

⭐ Undo Terrain Changes:

  • While holding the dirty hoe, press the Undo Hotkey (default Left Alt + X) to undo the last terrain change. Each press goes back one more change, newest first.
  • Works for the terrain tools, paint tools, the ramp, the Reset Terrain piece, the Reset Hotkey and the resetterrain console command, so an accidental reset can be put back.
  • Undo Hotkey (config, Misc Settings): the key or key combination to undo. Set to None to turn undo off.
  • Undo Steps (config, Misc Settings): how many changes are remembered, from 1 to 20 (default 5).
  • If a change is too far away to be loaded, move closer and try again.
  • The Undo Hotkey does nothing while placing a ramp; use the Step Back key (default Z) to undo a ramp point instead.
  • Stamina, durability and resources are not given back, and stones dropped by lowering stay on the ground.
  • In multiplayer, undoing puts the spot back to how it was before your change, so any edit someone else made there afterwards is lost.
  • The undo history is cleared when you leave the world. Clutter brush painting can't be undone.

⭐ Other Settings:

  • Enable or disable durabilty.
  • Enable or disable stamina.
  • Enable or disable resources.
  • Enable or disable workbench.
  • Show or hide hotkeys in tool descriptions. Each tool's description in the build menu lists the hotkeys that work with it, as set in your config (on by default; General Settings, Show Hotkeys In Tool Descriptions).

⭐ Console Commands:

  • resetterrain - Resets terrain to default state.
  • remove_pieces - removes all structures around the player in a configured radius.
  • remove_forestry - removes trees, shrubs, rocks etc in a configured radius.

🎚️ Configuration:

Settings are in BepInEx/config/MagicMike.MyDirtyHoe.cfg (or edit them in r2modman/Gale/Configuration Manager).

CHANGELOG

Version Changes
2.2.8
  • New Planting category on the hoe with the cultivator's seeds and saplings, including ones other mods add to the cultivator. Planting with the hoe raises the Farming skill, like the cultivator. Turn it off with Enable Planting Category in General Settings.
  • Press the Step Back key (default Z) with a Planting piece selected to remove the last plant placed with the hoe and get its seeds back. Each press goes back one more plant, up to the Undo Steps setting.
  • New farm grid for the Planting category: seeds and saplings snap to a grid around nearby plants, spaced so each one has room to grow, and can't be placed where they would crowd another plant. Settings are under Farm Grid Settings. It turns itself off when FarmGrid, Farm Grid Remake, Farming Grid or Plant Easily is installed.
  • Each tool's description is shown again, and its hotkeys now have their own panel beside the selected piece's info, the same height as it. Turn the panel off with Show Hotkeys In Tool Descriptions in General Settings.
  • Every terrain and paint tool now has its own description saying what it does, in place of the general hotkeys line.
  • The descriptions in the build menu use slightly bigger text while holding the hoe.
  • 2.2.7
  • Fixed a strange bug with resizing and updated readme file.
  • 2.2.6
  • Removed the Rock Formation and Destructible Rock pieces from the Landscaping category.
  • All Landscaping stones and rocks now follow the Workbench Requirement setting, like the paving tools: with it on (the default) they can only be placed near a stonecutter.
  • Landscaping rocks now play the rock-destroyed sound when they are removed with the hoe or broken.
  • The Ashlands lava rock now costs Grausten instead of Stone, and the rock roots cost Frostwood instead of Wood.
  • Fixed painted clutter blocking building: pieces and hoe tools can now be placed where clutter was painted.
  • Fixed Landscaping rocks rising slowly out of the ground when RuneMagic is installed. With RuneMagic, some placed rocks also could not be removed with the hoe.
  • 2.2.5
  • Landscaping pieces can now be resized while placing them with the hoe. Off by default; turn it on with Enable Scaling in General Settings. Press ] to make the piece bigger and [ to make it smaller, hold Left Alt to change only the width, Left Shift for only the height, or both for only the depth, and press End to reset. Placed pieces keep their size after a reload and for other players. The keys, step size and size limits are in the config under Landscaping Scale Settings.
  • Resizing changes the cost: each step bigger costs 1 more item and each step smaller 1 fewer, never less than 1. A step that changes only one axis counts as a third of a step. Removing a resized piece refunds what was paid for it. Set Cost Per Size Step to 0 to keep the normal cost at every size.
  • Lowered the cost of the Landscaping rocks taken from the world. Every rock is about a third of its old cost, and none costs more than 50.
  • Tool descriptions in the build menu now show only the hotkeys, to make the small text easier to read. Tools without hotkeys keep their description.
  • 2.2.4
  • Added four bush clutter brushes to the Paint category: Bush (Meadows), Bush (Heath), Tall Bush (Meadows) and Tall Bush (Heath). Like the other clutter brushes they are visual only and can be removed with Clear Clutter.
  • Added 16 rocks and 2 rock roots from the world to the Landscaping category, including boulders, high stones, wide stones and dolmens. With resource costs on, rocks cost Stone and roots cost Wood, scaled by size.
  • Added HD textures for the clutter brushes and the Landscaping rocks, on by default. Turn them off with the HD Textures setting or the HD Textures Hotkey (Left Alt + H while holding the hoe). Only what you paint or place changes; the world's own grass and rocks keep the game's textures.
  • Landscaping pieces can now be removed with the hoe: aim at one and press the Remove button (middle mouse by default). The resources are refunded, and the piece is highlighted while you aim at it. Buildings and the world's own rocks can't be removed with the hoe.
  • 2.2.3
  • Fixed Enable Status Effect not following the server's setting. Players could turn the buff on in their own config even when the server had it off.
  • Enable Status Effect no longer needs a restart.
  • 2.2.2
  • Updated readme file incorrectly listing the lower tool in the shape changes.
  • 2.2.1
  • Each hoe tool now remembers its own radius when you switch tools, open the piece menu or unequip the hoe.
  • Tool radii are saved on the character, so they are kept between sessions.
  • 2.2.0
  • Fixed modKey setting to not be synced with the server.
  • Fixed the placeable boulders disappearing after using a portal or leaving the area.
  • 2.1.9
  • Fixed a big FPS drop while holding the hoe, caused by the hotkeys in the tool descriptions being redrawn every frame.
  • 2.1.8
  • Added a Reset Tool Shape setting so the Reset Terrain piece and the Reset Hotkey can reset a circle or a square. Square shows the same grid as the square flatten tool.
  • Added a Shape Toggle Hotkey that switches the Flatten, Raise, and Reset tool shapes between Circle and Square while holding the hoe.
  • Added a Clear Forestry piece to the Paint category, disabled by default. It removes trees, stumps, shrubs, rocks and pickables inside the brush circle, like the remove_forestry console command. Turn it on with Enable Clear Forestry Tool in the config (General Settings).
  • Added an Undo Hotkey (LeftAlt + X by default) that undoes the last terrain changes made with the Dirty Hoe while holding it. It remembers the last 5 changes, set by Undo Steps in the config.
  • Each tool's description in the build menu now lists the hotkeys that work with it, as they are set in your config. Turn it off with Show Hotkeys In Tool Descriptions in the config (General Settings).
  • Added a temporary patch to hide Jotunn's harmless "Ambiguous asset name for path" warnings from the BepInEx log. The warnings don't come from my mod. Hopefully Jotunn will fix in the next release!
  • 2.1.7
  • Added angle display to the ramp tool. Carts can struggle up steep ramps! (Above 20° ).
  • Added a Reset Terrain piece to the Terrain category. It uses the Terrain Reset Settings from the config.
  • updated tool icons.
  • 2.1.6
  • Updated for Valheim 1.0.16
  • Translation files are reloaded safely when they change.
  • 2.1.5
  • New Raise/Lower Tool Shape setting (Misc Settings) switches Raise Terrain between Circle and Square.
  • Flatten tools, Raise Terrain (when their shape is Square) and Lower Terrain now show a gridded square overlay of the exact area they change, instead of the circle.
  • Tool now shows a message with how far the ground under it has been raised (or lowered) from the original ground, and the height limit.
  • Fixed a conflict with mods that add crafting stations (such as BoneAppetit's grill), whose upgrades could not be placed and whose recipes did not show.
  • The vanilla hoe and cultivator are no longer changed by the mod: radius controls, square flattening and the reset modifier key now only apply to MyDirtyHoe's own tools.
  • The radius scroll modifier (Left Alt) no longer blocks the scroll wheel for the hammer and other build tools; it only applies while using the Dirty Hoe.
  • 2.1.4
  • Ramp end point marker now shows the height climbed from the start point.
  • Fixed the hoe occasionally forgetting the last selected piece on login, showing "Nothing to Build" instead.
  • 2.1.3
  • Updated Jotunn 2.30.2
  • 2.1.2
  • The Reset Hotkey can now be a key combination, for example LeftControl + F6.
  • Fixed a big frame drop and millions of "Missing prefab hash" log messages near clutter painted with 2.1.0.
  • 2.1.1
  • Fixed Reset Terrain hotkey not working.
  • Rewrote clutter paint to avoid conflicts with other plugins. It now has ten brushes: forest groundcover (two kinds), heath flowers, heath grass, ferns, shrub, swamp grass, swamp ferns, reeds and water lilies. Clutter painted with 2.1.0 will be removed!
  • Clutter brush and eraser icons are now read from the asset bundle.
  • Painted clutter now settles back onto the ground when the terrain under it changes.
  • Clutter brushes place one stroke per click, so plugins that repeat placement while the button is held (such as ContinuousBuild) no longer pile up strokes.
  • Fixed the brush radius circle not showing when ContinuousBuild is installed.
  • The hoe now remembers the last piece you selected, per character, when you restart the game.
