Forge of Idols
Convert and upgrade idols at the Forge of Potential, with configurable costs and success chances.
Works on its own or alongside Forge Rework. No new crafting station required.
Recipes
| Action | Recipe | Default cost | Default success chance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Convert | Protection → Battle, same tier | 1 idol → 1 idol | 80% |
| Convert | Battle → Protection, same tier | 1 idol → 1 idol | 80% |
| Upgrade | Protection → next-tier Protection | 3 idols → 1 idol | 80% |
| Upgrade | Battle → next-tier Battle | 3 idols → 1 idol | 80% |
All eight vanilla idol tiers are supported. Upgrades advance one tier at a time; the highest tier cannot be upgraded further.
Every attempt consumes its input idols. Success produces one output idol; failure produces nothing. Successful attempts play the forge's native lightning and sound.
Using the forge
- Bring your idols to the Forge of Potential.
- Choose UPGRADE for next-tier idols, or CONVERT to switch idol types.
- Check the input cost and displayed success chance.
- Press Attempt Upgrade or Attempt Conversion.
Gear refinement and idol upgrades share the UPGRADE tab. Other crafting stations keep their usual menus.
Unlocking recipes
- Carry at least one idol of the recipe's input type and tier.
- Discover the exact output idol at least once with your character.
- Collect enough input idols and leave room in your inventory for the output.
You do not need to keep the discovered output idol. This prevents lower-tier stockpiles from unlocking tiers you have never found.
A recipe remains visible when you carry too few input idols, but its attempt button is disabled. Recipes configured to 0% are also disabled and consume nothing.
Installation
Install through Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. The manager installs these required dependencies:
- BepInExPack Valheim
- Conditional Config Sync 1.0.9+
For multiplayer, install Forge of Idols and its dependencies on the server and every client. Restart after installation. Forge Rework is optional.
For a manual install, place ForgeOfIdols.dll in BepInEx/plugins/ForgeOfIdols. Keep only one copy installed.
Configuration
The first launch creates:
BepInEx/config/MerlinofMines.ForgeOfIdols.cfg
| Section | Setting | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Conversion | Input Idols | 1 | 1–10000 |
| Conversion | Success Probability | 80 | 0–100% |
| Tier Upgrading | Input Idols | 3 | 1–10000 |
| Tier Upgrading | Success Probability | 80 | 0–100% |
Conversion settings apply to both directions and every tier. Tier Upgrading settings apply to both idol types and every upgrade tier. Input Idols is the cost per attempt to produce one output idol.
- 0%: attempts disabled; no cost.
- 100%: every attempt succeeds.
- Changes through Configuration Manager apply immediately. Restart after editing the file externally.
Dedicated servers
The server controls all four settings. Only server administrators may edit them; there is no configuration-lock toggle. Clients wait for settings to synchronize before crafting, and local settings return after disconnecting.
Craft attempts run on the player's client. Configuration synchronization does not provide server-side anti-cheat.
