Features
Autosorter - Craft, Build and store
![]()
Built with the Hammer, in the Crafting category, near a Forge (Rrequirements are all configurable):
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Stone | 20 |
| Bronze | 8 |
| Greydwarf eye | 20 |
| Ectoplasm | 4 |
The autosorter can be upgraded with Surtling cores to increase its range. It has 4 core slots, and configurably requires at least 1 core to work. There is a front hopper on the machine that allows depositing items for it to store into chests. Items not sorted will be left in the inventory. Its Deposit Selected button moves your pack straight in. The [C] button beside it picks which kinds of item go, and whether your hotbar and quick slots (EquipmentAndQuickSlots, AzuExtendedPlayerInventory or ExtraSlots) are included. Equipped gear always stays on you.
Carts and boats in range count as storage too, so you can craft straight out of the cart you just pulled up to the workshop.
They are only ever crafted from, never sorted into, and each can be turned off (Craft From Carts, Craft From Boats).
Furnace Hopper - Automate your Furnanaces and Kilns
![]()
Built with the Hammer, in the Crafting category, near a Forge (Rrequirements are all configurable):
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Stone | 30 |
| Iron | 12 |
| Bronze | 8 |
| Coal | 20 |
The furnace hopper allows you to automatically process wood, and metals in nearby charcoal kilns, smelters and blast furnaces. It has a relatively short range. Other processing stations (windmills, spinning wheels, eitr refineries and modded ones) are left alone unless you turn them on: the [C] button beside its deposit button shows every type of station in range, and a click switches each one on or off for that hopper. But can be upgraded with up to 6 surtling cores. Configurably 1 core is required for it to turn on. Each core increase processing speed of managed furnaces/kilns. Bars and coal go into the hopper as soon as they are made. In multiplayer, the game running the hopper also takes over the stations it feeds, so every one of them keeps going.
Lighter - Keep every fire burning
![]()
Built with the Hammer, in the Crafting category, near a Forge (requirements are all configurable):
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Silver | 10 |
| Wood | 5 |
| Coal | 40 |
| Iron | 5 |
The Lighter can provide fuel to any light source, or fire within range.
- Range: 64 metres by default.
- Emptiest first: when the tank runs short, the pieces closest to going out are filled first.
- Never overfills: each piece gets only what you could add by hand, and only on the game running both the Lighter and that piece, so two players can never top up the same fire at once. In multiplayer the Lighter takes over the pieces it fills, as the Furnace Hopper does with its stations.
- Hover it to see how many pieces it is tending, and which fuels it is missing. Fires the world placed itself and fires that are switched off are left alone.
- The Autosorter never files anything into its tank, but crafting from storage can draw from it. Vanilla's Place stacks tops the tank up.
- Smoke: while it is working, all three of its upright pipes give off wisps of smoke, and the centre column also puffs out the same
smoke a fire does. Like a fire's, that smoke gathers under a roof, and with no way out it can choke nearby fires and smoke players
out. The server setting
Physical Smoketurns it off and leaves only the wisps.
Its settings are under Dverger Lighter: range, seconds between passes, tank rows, physical smoke, and a list of pieces it should
never fuel (for example piece_oven or piece_bathtub).
Seeking Table - Find and fetch from any chest
![]()
Built with the Hammer, in the Crafting category, near a Black Forge (requirements are all configurable):
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Black marble | 20 |
| Yggdrasil wood | 10 |
| Copper | 10 |
| Refined eitr | 10 |
A vortex of dverger magic the seeking table can retrieve items from anywhere in the nearby area.
- Search by name or by words in an item's description. With Epic Loot installed, start with
@to search enchantments, exactly as on the enchanting table:@attack speed, firefinds gear carrying both. - Filter by item type with the icons down the right-hand side.
- Take an item with a click (one stack), shift-click (choose how many) or ctrl-click (everything that fits). On a controller: A or X for a stack, LT+A to choose, LT+X for everything, and click the left stick to search.
A brief blue line runs from the orb to each chest an item came out of. Each of the four pillars takes a Black Core, and every core reaches further. Boats, carts and Furnace Hopper storage in range are listed too; each can be turned off.
The Ground items switch under the item types also lists everything lying on the ground within the table's range, added to
what the chests hold. Taking an item picks it up from where it lies, before anything is taken from a chest. The switch is off
until you turn it on, it is your own setting, and the ground is only looked over (once a second) while the table is open.
A server can hide it with Allow Ground Items.
Grinder - Break down what you no longer need
![]()
Built with the Hammer, in the Crafting category, near a Black Forge (requirements are all configurable):
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Grausten | 20 |
| Flametal | 10 |
| Ashwood | 10 |
| Charred cogwheel | 2 |
The grinder allows you to break down items and recover a fraction of their value.
- Feeding: the hopper on top is a chest of its own. Open it and put in what you want broken down; until you pull the lever you can take anything back out.
- The lever: on the Grinder's left side. Pulling it empties the hopper into the machine's processing queue (16 stacks by default; anything past that waits in the hopper for the next pull) and starts it up. The lever stays thrown while there is work and drops back when the queue runs out. You can refill the hopper and pull again while it runs.
- Returns: 20% of the crafting cost by default, upgrades included, so a sword at quality 3 returns part of everything spent making and upgrading it. Fractions carry over from one item to the next, so nothing is lost to rounding.
- Molten Cores: each of the ten sockets in its power panel adds 2% to the return and 10% to the speed.
- Enchanted items (Epic Loot): by default they return their share of the crafting cost like anything else. A server can also have them return the same share of what enchanting them at their rarity costs (runestone, dust, and essence or reagent), have them return only that, or turn both off so they pass through untouched.
- Items a trader sells and blacklisted items are not ground: they come out in the results chest as they went in. Taking the Grinder down drops everything still queued, intact. The Autosorter never files anything into the results chest, but crafting from storage can draw from it.
Its settings are under Dverger Grinder: base yield, yield and speed per core, seconds per item, hopper rows, queue size, results
chest rows, what enchanted items return, and a blacklist.
Respects locks and wards
A chest is only linked if you could open it yourself.
A chest that another player has open stays theirs - it is never pulled out from under them. Crafting and building still count what is in it and can spend from it: the player who has it open takes the materials out on your behalf and simply sees them leave. The same goes for a boat with someone aboard and a cart someone is pulling. Materials that were fetched but not used go back to the chest they came from.
Auto-store files into an open chest the same way: the player who has it open puts the items in, and anything that no longer fits comes back to the deposit box.
The Seeking Table takes from an open chest the same way: the player who has it open hands the item over.
The Furnace Hopper and the Epic Loot enchanting table are more careful: they leave an open chest alone until it is closed.
Crafting takes from a Furnace Hopper's storage, a Lighter's tank and a Grinder's results chest the same way, through the player running the machine, so a machine never leaves its work to hand you its contents.
Auto-store is stricter still: it only ever files items into public chests, so your own Private chests can feed crafting but never receive sorted goods.
Shared chests
Several players can have the same chest, boat hold or cart open at once and move items in and out of it together. The first player to open it works exactly as in vanilla. Everyone who joins after has their moves carried out by that player's game, so there is only ever one copy of the chest being written. Your own moves show straight away and settle a moment later.
- The Autosorter's deposit box, the Furnace Hopper's storage, the Grinder's hopper and results chest and the Lighter's fuel tank stay one player at a time, because sorting, feeding, grinding and refuelling are done by whoever has them open.
- Buttons other mods add to the chest screen (quick stack, sort) act for the player who opened the chest first. For anyone who joined after they do nothing, rather than risk losing or duplicating items.
- The server setting
EnabledunderShared Cheststurns it off.
Credit to MultiUserChest by MSchmoecker, which showed that a chest could be shared this way and was the reference for how one should behave. The version here is written separately and works differently underneath: it runs on the same owner requests as crafting from storage, notices when the player holding a chest has left and puts back whatever was on its way, and refuses a move it cannot carry out safely instead of letting it through.
MultiUserChest support (optional)
If MultiUserChest is installed it takes over shared chests and this mod's own version steps aside. Crafting and building still draw from a chest however many players have it open, and the Autosorter's deposit box, the Furnace Hopper's storage, the Grinder's hopper and results chest and the Lighter's fuel tank still stay one player at a time.
Epic Loot support (optional)
If Epic Loot is installed, DvergerAutomation registers itself with it properly rather than patching around it:
- The enchanting table draws from linked chests. Runestones, shards and dust stay in storage instead of your inventory.
- Gear in linked chests can be worked on in place. Enchanting, augmenting, etching or disenchanting an item stored in a linked chest is saved back to that chest, so it does not revert.
- Auto-store leaves magic items alone by default, for the same reason: a legendary would
otherwise be filed into whatever chest holds the ordinary version. It stays in the deposit box instead.
Turn on
Sort Magic Itemsif you would rather have them stored. - The Seeking Table lists magic items one by one, with their rarity backgrounds, and its search
finds them by enchantment when the query starts with
@.
Epic Loot is a soft dependency: not having it installed changes nothing.
Installation (manual)
Multiplayer: every player on the server needs the mod, and versions must match on major and minor. The Autosorter's settings are server-authoritative and only admins can change them.
CHANGELOG

- Fixes the Seeking Table saying the inventory is full when taking items with ExtraSlots
0.12.2
- Improves ward ownership check compatibility with other mods
0.12.1
- Fixes build placement issues with the Seeking table
- Fixes Cores not showing up or allowing placement for the autosorter in multiplayer
0.12.0
- Adds the Dverger Seeking Table, a Mistlands machine that lists everything in the chests around it and lets you search for and take any of it, respects chest access.
- Black Cores set into its pillars let it reach chests further away.
- With Epic Loot installed, its search can find gear by enchantment.
- Also lists the items lying on the ground in its range, so you can pick them up from the table.
- Adds the Dverger Grinder, an Ashlands machine that breaks crafted items down into part of what they cost.
- Molten Cores set into the Grinder make it work faster and return more.
- With Epic Loot installed, the Grinder breaks enchanted items down too, and can be set to return part of their enchanting materials.
- Adds the Dverger Lighter, a Mountains machine that keeps the fires, torches, ovens and hot tubs around it fuelled from its tank.
- The Dverger Hopper now collects bars and coal the moment they are made, instead of on its next pass.
- In multiplayer the Hopper now keeps every station in its range running, not just the ones that happened to run on the same player's game.
- Crafting from a Lighter's tank or a Grinder's results chest no longer moves that machine to the crafting player's game.
- Fixes a crash at crafting stations for recipes that take any one of several ingredients.
- Crafting stops drawing from chests as soon as the server switches the Autosorter off.
- Placing an Autosorter or Hopper no longer makes its preview act like a working machine.
- A mistyped building cost no longer stops the mod loading, and a piece switched off and on again can be built again.
- Crafting panels, the build menu, boats and carts, the Seeking Table and every machine do much less repeated work in large bases.
0.11.1
- The deposit button on the Autosorter and Hopper can now be pressed with a controller, using the same button as Place stacks.
0.11.0
- Several players can now have the same chest open at once and move items in and out of it together.
- Crafting and building can now use materials from a chest another player has open, and from a boat or cart someone else is using.
- Auto-store can now file items into a chest another player has open.
- Crafting and building wait a moment for materials another player is holding instead of asking you to try again.
- Works alongside MultiUserChest, which takes over shared chests when it is installed.
- Hardened chests against showing out-of-date contents right after they change hands.
0.10.1
- Fixed Epic Loot's enchanting table losing changes to gear stored in linked chests: enchanting, augmenting, etching or disenchanting an item there now saves it to its chest, instead of the chest undoing it a moment later after the materials were spent
- Needs an Epic Loot with inventory provider save handlers; with an older one the log warns once, and gear is best taken out of the chest before working on it
- The Autosorter now picks up every chest in your base within moments of you arriving by portal or logging in, instead of some of them only after its next scan.
0.10.0
- Fixes buildable prefabs missing sounds/visual effects for damage, destruction and placement
- The Autosorter's Deposit All is now Deposit Selected, with a [C] button beside it that opens a deposit filter
- Click item categories to choose what gets deposited: armor, utility & trinkets, shields, weapons, ammo, tools & torches, food, meads & potions, materials, trophies, fish and miscellaneous
- Choice is user specific, and not synced to other players
- The Dverger Hopper now services only smelters, charcoal kilns and blast furnaces by default. A new [C] lets you configure that.
- It shows one icon for each type of station in the hopper's range: smelters, kilns and blast furnaces, plus windmills, spinning wheels, eitr refineries and modded stations. Click an icon to turn it on or off
- The choice is saved on each hopper, so every player sees the same setting
- Fixed the Dverger Hopper losing items on laggy multiplayer servers
- Fixed crafting, building, auto-store and Epic Loot enchanting losing or duplicating items in linked chests on laggy multiplayer servers
0.9.0
- Carts and boats (Karve, Longship, Drakkar) within an Autosorter's range now count as storage for
crafting and Hammer building. They are relinked every couple of seconds, so a cart counts as soon
as it is parked and stops counting when it leaves.
- A boat with someone else aboard, or a cart someone else is pulling or riding, is left alone
- Auto-store never stores items into a boat or cart
- New server settings
Craft From BoatsandCraft From Carts, both on by default
- Fixed: with ZenUI's crafting panel enabled, the craft-from-storage switch sat too low, off its plate and overlapping the repair button. It now stacks above the repair button wherever a UI mod puts it.
0.8.0
- New piece: the Dverger Hopper
- Dverger Hopper is an iron age improvement that allows automating Furnances & Kilns
- It automatically fills machines in its radius (expandable with surtling cores) and provides a small speedup
- Its inventory will pull back in smelted ores, making them immediately available for crafting from any nearby autosorter
- Fully configurable, range, speed bonus, pice requirements, default scan rate
- Craft-from-storage switch: A GUI button to enable/disable craft from containers
- Deposit All button, which takes over the slot vanilla's Place stacks button sits in whenever one of the mod's own containers is open
- On the Autosorter it deposits your inventory and files it away, leaving equipped gear, the hotbar and quickslots alone
- Which item types it holds back is now a config list, defaulting to gear and ammo (this replaces the old
Deposit All Keeps Ammoswitch) - On the Dverger Hopper it becomes Deposit Materials and moves in wood and ore, from a config list of prefabs
- Ordinary chests keep Place stacks exactly as before
- Fixed: an Autosorter placed on a wooden floor lost its support and broke. It is now an iron piece, so wood holds it up.
0.7.1
- Fixed: gear whose recipe has a Valheim 1.0 upgrader ingredient could not be crafted or upgraded from linked chests - the craft button stayed greyed out even though the chests held everything the panel listed.
- Fixed: crafting that gear at a regular station could spend its upgrader ingredient out of a linked chest, although the station never charges it.
0.7.0
- Ingredient rows in the crafting panel and the build HUD now show how many of each material the
linked chests hold, as a green
+Nafter the required amount. Hovering the row spells it out. The figure counts only what the Autosorter would actually spend: enchanted gear and anything in the deposit box are left out. Turn it off with the new client-sideShow Storage Countssetting. - Fixed: mods that print your own inventory count next to an ingredient (MyLittleUI) were shown
the inventory-plus-chests total instead. Chest stock now only appears in the
+Nfigure. - Fixed: auto-store could duplicate the leftovers it handed back out of the deposit box. Anything with no matching chest now stays in the box instead, and is tried again every time it is closed.
- Fixed: crafting, building and enchanting from storage could take over a chest another player had open, blanking their chest panel and leaving their view of that chest out of date. Open chests are now skipped until they are closed.
0.6.0
- Auto-store: the Autosorter now has a deposit box. Drop goods in, close it, and each stack is filed into the chests in range that already hold that item - splitting across chests as needed. Anything with no home comes back to you. Only public chests are filled; Private chests are never targeted, even your own.
- New settings:
Auto Store(on),Sort Magic Items(off), andDeposit Box Width/Deposit Box Height(default 8x4, the size of your own inventory; minimum 2x2). - Fixed: taking materials out of linked chests while crafting left the per-frame item counts stale for the rest of the frame.
0.5.0
- Beta release.
