README

Auto POI Marker

Auto POI Marker

Auto POI Marker adds a local map pin when you reach a configured dungeon or progression landmark. The location name is shown once in the middle of the screen. Dungeons use Valheim's hammer pin.

What it marks

Dungeon names can be filtered in the config. By default, the mod recognises crypts, caves, mines and similar dungeon entrances, including Mistlands Infested Mines. Black Forest Crypts and Swamp Sunken Crypts are included here; they are dungeon entries, not large-POI entries.

The default list follows Valheim's biome progression. It marks boss altars, Black Forest and Swamp dungeons, Swamp Fire Holes/Surtling spawns, Mountain dragon nests, Plains tar pits and goblin camps, Mistlands Infested Mines, Dvergr towers, harbours, excavation sites, giant remains (including skulls), and late-game landmarks. Important resource nodes, including Copper Deposits, are also supported through their own setting. Ordinary huts and generic towers are left alone.

Install

  1. Install BepInExPack Valheim with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman.
  2. Install this package.
  3. Start the game once to create BepInEx/config/rollstuhltreter.valheim.autopoimarker.cfg.

For a manual install, copy plugins/AutoPOIMarker.dll to BepInEx/plugins/.

Settings

The default detection radius is 50 metres. The config file contains switches for each biome, MarkProgressionLandmarks, a dungeon name filter, a large-POI name filter, CustomPoiNameFilter, and resource-node markers. All marker switches default to true.

DungeonNameFilter contains the recognised dungeon names by default, including Crypt and SunkenCrypt. Use * to include every recognised dungeon.

MarkProgressionLandmarks keeps the built-in, progression-relevant landmark set active for each enabled biome, including after upgrading from an older config. LargePoiNameFilter adds further non-dungeon landmarks. Add a comma-separated fragment when you want to include another large location. Setting it to * enables every non-dungeon location in an enabled biome.

CustomPoiNameFilter is for additional server or modded locations. Its comma-separated name fragments are matched regardless of biome, so use specific names rather than *.

Performance

World locations are indexed gradually after a world loads. During play, the mod only checks the small cached area around the player after they have moved or a nearby server location has loaded. Server-loaded locations use the same cache and filters as local-world locations, even when the server does not expose a generated-world list to the client. It does not repeatedly search all world locations or Unity objects.

Multiplayer diagnostics

For troubleshooting only, set EnableDebugLogging = true in the [Debug] section. The plugin will write [POI Debug] entries to BepInEx/LogOutput.log while it indexes locations and processes server-loaded POIs. Turn the setting back off after collecting a log.

Multiplayer

This is a client-side mod. It only reads the local world's generated locations and writes pins to the local player's map. It does not need to be installed on the server.
