README

Rusty Heathens QoL

A Valheim quality-of-life mod built for the Rusty Heathens community.

Install and update

Install RustyHeathensQoL 0.5.17 on the server and all participating player PCs. Use Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman for player profiles. For Rusty Backpack and ground AutoStore, pair it with RustyHeathensServerQoL 0.5.9, installed on the server only.

Keep your existing configs. Close Valheim and stop the server when replacing DLLs manually. Keep one active copy of each plugin in BepInEx/plugins; move earlier manually installed test DLLs outside that folder before using the mod-manager version.

What's included in 0.5.17

  • Dropped food, potions and other consumables can enter nearby matching storage boxes, including consumables limited to one item per slot.
  • Ground pickup waits for vanilla ownership consent and verifies item saves. Failed transfers restore the previous item counts.
  • Shared Group storage works with automation; private storage and ward access still apply.
  • Inventory transfers have a build-tool selection guard to prevent an automatic hammer equip during backpack use. Explicit hammer choices, already held tools and normal closed-inventory building remain available.
  • Own gear graves use a saved red marker. Recovering the tracked grave clears its gear marker; unloading it or opening an unrelated backpack grave keeps the marker.
  • Normal chest panels use their own inventory size after opening the backpack.

Player inventory and backpack

  • 8 columns by 6 visible rows: 48 normal inventory slots.
  • Separate Head, Chest, Legs, Back, Utility, Trinket, Ammo and Food slots.
  • Existing inventory layout migration and full-body character preview.
  • Rusty Backpack opens through the configured server emote, normally Wave.
  • Four visible backpack rows with scrolling for larger progression capacity.
  • Weightless backpack storage and a hidden backpack-only weight readout.
  • Closing with Esc stays closed until another open action.
  • The invisible backpack host follows the player so the backpack can reopen after moving.

Other features

Nearby-chest crafting and building consume player materials first, then the shortage from eligible nearby chests. Tiered proximity Auto Repair, safe Quick Stack, food hotkeys and server-authoritative settings are included. Generated chest-content labels from ServerQoL remain visible without blocking chest interaction.

Ground AutoStore setup

Enable AutoStore in ServerQoL. Place one matching item in a closed, accessible regular chest and leave room for the entire dropped stack. Drop the item within the configured range, normally 20 metres. The default player protection period is 3 seconds near a player.

Keep the chest and drop loaded and the updated chest-owner client connected. Backpacks, graves, carts, Personal Chests and temporary loot containers are excluded. An empty box has no match until you seed it with the item. Ground AutoStore uses its own rules; player Quick Stack and eating controls keep their existing behavior.

Compatibility and verification

Use this as the player inventory layout mod in the profile. Pair server automation with matching updated QoL clients.

Built against the supplied Valheim 1.0.16 and BepInEx assemblies. The combined update passes 282 local logic and simulated behavior checks. The latest pickup and hammer guard still need live multiplayer confirmation; compilation and fixtures do not replace that check. If a transfer fails, retain the PC and server BepInEx/LogOutput.log from the same attempt. A blocked automatic tool selection logs [RHQOL Inventory] with the caller stack.
