Rideable Boars

Because every Viking deserves a slightly stubborn mount.

Craft a saddle, choose a favourite boar and ride across Valheim. Version 1.0.4 adds persistent mount progression, a command wheel, map tracking and configurable free-camera steering.

Built and verified against Valheim 1.0.16 (network version 40).

Default controls

• E on a saddle: mount.
• E on the back of an unsaddled boar: ride bareback.
• E while mounted and not targeting another usable object: dismount.
• Left Shift + E directly on the saddle: remove and recover it.
• B: open or close the command wheel.
• Escape: close the command wheel.
• Mouse movement and left click: select and execute a command.
• W, A and D: move and steer when movement-key steering is enabled.
• Space: jump.

Saddle recipe

Craft the Boar Saddle at a level 2 Workbench using 5 Leather Scraps, 2 Deer Hide and 4 Bronze Nails.

Installation

Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. For manual installation, install BepInExPack for Valheim and copy this package's BepInEx directory into the Valheim directory.

Keep the DLL, saddle AssetBundle and complete icons directory together inside BepInEx/plugins/RideableBoars.

Configuration

Settings are generated in BepInEx/config/xneliox.rideableboars.cfg. The former valheim.boarriding.cfg is migrated automatically.

Movement-Key Steering separates steering from the camera. Camera Shake Multiplier accepts values from 0 (stabilized) to 1 (original Valheim movement).

Multiplayer

Install the same version on the host or dedicated server and every connecting client. Matching configuration files are recommended.

Updating and safe removal

Delete obsolete or duplicate BoarRiding.dll and RideableBoars.dll copies before updating. Keep only the DLL supplied in BepInEx/plugins/RideableBoars.

Back up worlds and characters. Before permanently removing the mod, remove custom Boar Saddles from inventories, containers and the world.

AI disclosure

Generative AI was used as a development assistant for parts of the code, visual assets and publication materials. The mod was assembled, tested and published by xneliox.
