README

Supermans Auto Storage/Craft (Valheim, client-side)

A client-only BepInEx mod. Nothing is needed on the server, and other players don't need it.

Controls

Action Key
Put your whole inventory into chests within range . (Period)
Lock or unlock an item so it never gets deposited Inventory open: hover over the item (or pick it up), hold Left Shift, press F
Fill a smelter, furnace, kiln, refinery, spinning wheel or windmill from chests Look at it, hold Left Shift, scroll to pick the ore, then press E
Settings window (ranges and toggles) F1 (Esc or F1 closes it)

What it does

  • Deposit: an item only goes into a nearby chest that already holds at least one of that item. That chest fills its existing stacks first, then uses its empty slots. If no chest in range has the item, or those chests have no room left, the item (or whatever didn't fit) stays in your inventory. It does this silently: no chest opens and no item names are shown. Equipped items and locked items stay with you.
  • Locks: the lock is stored on the item itself, so it's saved with your character and stays on the item when you move it. Locked slots get an orange frame.
  • Crafting, upgrading, cauldron cooking: while you're using a crafting station, recipes count materials in chests within range. When you craft, it takes from your inventory first and then from the chests. Again, nothing shows which chest was used. This also covers recipes that need only one of several ingredients. If your inventory has enough of one of them, that one is used, just as in the unmodded game. If not, an ingredient that your inventory and nearby chests have enough of together is used.
  • Chests always keep 1: when crafting, cooking or smelting takes items from chests, it never takes the last 1 of an item. Each chest keeps at least one of every item it holds, so it keeps receiving that item when you deposit. The counts on the right side only include what can actually be spent.
  • Cooking stations (spit, iron cooking station, oven): if you have no raw food on you, the station takes one piece from a nearby chest each time you press E.
  • Right-side panel: with a recipe selected, the right side of the screen lists each needed item with have / need. "Have" counts your inventory plus the chests in range. When you look at a smelter, the panel shows the fuel and every ore it accepts, with the counts in range. The selected ore is marked.
  • Smelter fill: fuel is topped up to the maximum and the queue is filled with the selected ore. It takes from chests first and then from your inventory.

Default ranges

15 m each for deposit, crafting/cooking and smelting. You can change them with the F1 window or in BepInEx/config/chestlink.valheim.cfg (allowed range 1–50 m). Key bindings can be changed in the same file.

Notes

  • If another player has a chest open, that chest is skipped. Private chests that aren't yours, and chests inside a ward that doesn't permit you, are skipped as well. Tombstones are never used. Carts and ships are off by default.
  • Don't run it alongside AzuCraftyBoxes, AzuAutoStore or another craft-from-chests mod. They patch the same game code.
  • Official BepInEx ConfigurationManager also opens on F1. If you use both, change ConfigMenuKey.

Building

dotnet build ChestLink.csproj -c Release

The build looks for Valheim in D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Valheim and for BepInEx in the Gale profile "Client Side Only". To use other locations, override them with -p:ValheimDir=... -p:BepInExCore=.... A Release build also writes Supermans_Auto_Storage_Craft-<version>.zip into the folder above this project. To install it, use Gale's Import → Import local mod and pick that zip.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

1.0.6

  • Renamed from ChestLink to Supermans Auto Storage/Craft. Existing settings and locked items carry over.

1.0.5

  • Crafting, upgrading, cooking and smelter filling never take the last 1 of an item from a chest. Each chest keeps at least one of every item it holds, and the right-side counts only include what can actually be spent.

1.0.4

  • Fixed: 1.0.3 stopped depositing almost everything, because chests usually hold only full stacks. A chest that already has the item now takes more of it again: first onto its existing stacks, then into its empty slots. Items still stay with you if no chest in range has them or those chests have no room.
  • Each deposit writes a one-line summary to the BepInEx log (nothing is shown in game).

1.0.3

  • Auto-deposit only tops up stacks already in a chest. It never starts a new stack in an empty slot, so once a chest's stacks of that item are full, the rest stays in your inventory.
  • Unstackable items (weapons, armor) still go into a chest that already holds one of the same item, if it has an empty slot.

1.0.2

  • Auto-deposit now only puts items into chests that already contain at least one of that item. Items with no matching chest in range, or whose matching chests are full, stay in your inventory.
  • Removed the "stack onto matching chests first" and "only matching chests" options (this is now always the behavior).

1.0.1

  • Recipes that need only one of several ingredients can now use nearby chests (inventory is used first).
  • Packaged for Gale / Thunderstore mod managers.

1.0.0

  • Initial release: auto-deposit, item locking, crafting/upgrading/cooking from chests, smelter fill, info panels, F1 settings.
