EquipmentSheet
I use AI to review code and assist with optimization and integrity; I manually test and review every mod, and all decisions and code remain my own.
Critical fix: EquipmentSheet gear and food are now preserved correctly through player death and tombstone creation, even when the vanilla bag is full. Recovering the tombstone restores each item to the EquipmentSheet slot it occupied before death instead of leaving it in the bag or risking item loss.
EquipmentSheet is a client-side Valheim mod that adds a dedicated equipment and food panel beside the vanilla player inventory. It gives important gear a consistent home without hiding its weight or bypassing Valheim's normal equip and death-drop behavior.
Created and maintained by R4V9N1.
Features
- Six dedicated equipment slots: Helm, Chest, Legs, Trinket, Back, and Belt.
- Three persistent food slots for food and drink consumables.
- Uses Valheim's real equipped-item state so armor values and character visuals work normally.
- Automatically moves supported gear into its matching sheet slot when equipped and swaps the previous item back into the bag.
- Shows equipped sheet gear in crafting-station Upgrade lists and returns upgraded gear to the same slot.
- Includes sheet contents in carry weight.
- Shows vanilla item tooltips and durability bars.
- Preserves sheet gear and food through the normal tombstone flow without relying on free vanilla bag slots.
- Restores recovered items to their original sheet slots after the tombstone is taken.
- If gear was already lost by an older version and the tombstone cannot recover it, restore the character from Valheim's local client character-backup data, if a suitable backup exists.
- Keeps equipment separate per character and clears stale data when switching characters.
- Supports drag-and-drop, left-click pickup, food-stack refills, and right-click food use.
- Dragging equipment into the bag leaves it unequipped; right-clicking an equipment slot returns it directly to the bag.
Installation
Install with a Thunderstore mod manager, or copy EquipmentSheet.dll into:
<Valheim>/BepInEx/plugins/EquipmentSheet/EquipmentSheet.dll
This is a client-side mod. Install it for each player who wants the extra panel.
Configuration
After the first launch, BepInEx creates:
BepInEx/config/r4v9n1.equipmentsheet.cfg
You can enable or disable the panel and adjust its horizontal gap and extra right offset for other UI mods or different UI scales.
Compatibility note
Equipment and food in the panel live in EquipmentSheet's own per-character saved inventory. The mod intentionally does not use hidden extra rows in the vanilla player inventory.
The death-recovery snapshot is temporary per-character recovery data. It is consumed when the tombstone is recovered; it does not require a new config file. BrennivinProtection 1.0.2 is compatible and no longer moves EquipmentSheet items into the bag before suppressing tombstone creation.
Recovery fallback for older losses
The current fix prevents the known death/tombstone loss path; it cannot recreate items that an older version already discarded. If that happened, use Valheim's local client character-backup data and restore a backup from before the death. Back up the current character files before replacing anything, and only restore a backup you recognize as belonging to the correct character.
CHANGELOG
2.0.7
Upgrade item integrity
- Fixes upgraded EquipmentSheet gear being created without Valheim's required
m_dropPrefabreference, which could throwNullReferenceExceptionfromHumanoid.SetupVisEquipmentduring upgrade, re-equip, and death/ragdoll creation. - Defers the equipment-inventory changed notification until the upgrade replacement transaction is fully committed, so equipment synchronization never runs against a half-created replacement.
- Records the replacement before exact-slot insertion so rollback can always remove it after an unexpected insertion failure, preventing the original and upgraded item from coexisting in the same EquipmentSheet slot.
Governed build authority
- Updates the maintained
.csprojandbuild.ps1to resolve BepInEx/Harmony from the authorizedbuild\Valheim\reference\packages\BepInExPack_Valheim\BepInEx\corelocation while retaining the governed CLIENT game assemblies.
2.0.6
Equipped upgrade transaction
- Fixes equipped EquipmentSheet upgrades creating an upgraded copy in the player bag while restoring the original item to the sheet.
- Updates the Harmony target to Valheim's current position-aware
Inventory.AddItemoverload and intercepts only the replacement for the exact saved sheet position. - Preserves rollback if exact-slot replacement cannot be committed, while keeping Valheim's intentional upgrader-break result destructive instead of incorrectly restoring the broken item.
Inventory UI motion
- Synchronizes the EquipmentSheet panel position with the vanilla player inventory panel while its native open/close Animator runs, preserving the existing layout, fade, and interaction behavior.
Governed build assets
- Maintained builds now require the governed Valheim CLIENT Managed assemblies and BepInEx core under
build\Valheim\reference\ManagedAssemblies\ValheimClientAssetsand reject any resolved non-governed asset path. - The project defaults no longer prefer a Steam or dedicated-server Managed directory.
2.0.5
- Revalidated EquipmentSheet against the current governed Valheim client assembly and generated Public client API/IL evidence.
- Removed a proven-dead empty Inventory.MoveAll Harmony Postfix; no item-storage, equipment, upgrade, UI, persistence, or tombstone behavior was removed.
- Preserved the transactional exact-slot, upgrade, character-boundary, equipment-sync, and tombstone recovery safety paths.
Changelog
2.0.4
EquipmentSheet visibility
- EquipmentSheet now remains visible whenever the vanilla player inventory panel is open.
- Achievement, trophy, skill, map, text-panel and other inventory overlays no longer suppress or deactivate EquipmentSheet; vanilla UI layering is allowed to render those interfaces above it normally.
- Removes the obsolete broad InventoryGui transform scan previously used for overlay detection.
2.0.3
Equipped-item upgrade transaction
- Equipped EquipmentSheet gear participates in the normal crafting-station Upgrade tab.
- Upgraded gear is committed directly back to its exact dedicated EquipmentSheet slot and remains equipped.
- Exact-slot insertion avoids Valheim's stack-merging AddItem path during the upgrade replacement transaction.
- Failed upgrades roll back to the original equipped item instead of moving equipment into the player bag.
2.0.2
UI visibility repair
- Restores the EquipmentSheet panel, dedicated slots, labels, and item icons after the 2.0.1 fade integration could inherit an unrelated parent CanvasGroup and keep the sheet hidden.
- Fade synchronization now uses only the CanvasGroup directly owned by Valheim's player inventory panel; when no direct native CanvasGroup exists, EquipmentSheet fails visible instead of remaining at zero alpha.
- Retains the native Valheim TMP font fix and cached inventory UI lookup from the previous UI update.
2.0.1
UI
- Uses an already-loaded native Valheim TMP font before activating EquipmentSheet text, preventing the LiberationSans SDF fallback warnings.
- Caches the inventory UI hierarchy lookup used by EquipmentSheet to reduce the small stutter when opening the inventory.
- Synchronizes the EquipmentSheet panel, slots, labels, and item icons with the native inventory fade and interaction state.
2.0.0
EquipmentSheet 2.0 is a focused stability and recovery release for Valheim 1.0.
Inventory and equipment
- Persistent equipment and food slots remain character-specific through Valheim save/load and character switching.
- Equipment remains synchronized with Valheim's real equipped-item state, armor values, visuals, carry weight, crafting, and upgrades.
- Exact recovery insertion prevents compatible stacks from merging into the wrong slot or losing item identity.
- Failed sheet-load validation cannot overwrite durable character data with an empty runtime sheet.
Death and tombstone recovery
- Equipped gear and food are preserved through ordinary tombstone creation, including when the vanilla bag is full.
- Recovery uses a dedicated 3x3 grave region and restores items to their original EquipmentSheet slots.
- Tombstone recovery inserts and verifies a destination copy before removing the source item.
- Single-item retrieval, Take All, partial retrieval, relogged tombstones, and marked bag recovery use rollback-safe transfers.
- Brennivin-protected deaths preserve the EquipmentSheet without creating duplicate grave copies.
- Recovery state is kept in per-character data and is cleared only after successful completion.
UI and Valheim 1.0 compatibility
- Rebuilt and verified against the current Valheim 1.0 client and dedicated-server assembly APIs.
- Native Valheim font fallback prevents missing LiberationSans SDF warnings.
- EquipmentSheet stays behind the vanilla inventory and hides while achievements, trophies, skills, map, or text panels are open.
- Tombstone UI expands to display the dedicated recovery region without clipping.
Recovering gear lost on older versions
EquipmentSheet 2.0 cannot recreate an item that an older version already deleted or failed to save. To attempt recovery:
- Close Valheim completely and make a backup copy of the current character files.
- Open
%USERPROFILE%\\AppData\\LocalLow\\IronGate\\Valheim\\characters. - Identify the backup belonging to the affected character and dated before the item loss. Do not guess between characters with similar names.
- Copy the current character file to a separate backup location, then restore the selected older character backup according to the current Valheim save format.
- Start Valheim, confirm the character and recovered gear, then make a fresh backup before reconnecting to a server.
If the loss occurred on a server-authoritative save or no suitable local backup exists, contact the server owner before replacing files. Never delete the only current character copy.
