Capes Precision Drop

Stop tossing things. Place items from your inventory exactly where you want them.

Drop seeds right next to your chickens, berries in front of a boar you're taming, or food inside a lox pen, without it bouncing off somewhere else. Place mode gives you a build-style preview of the item, and your normal build controls to aim, rotate, and place it.

Features

• Build-style placement: a preview of the item and the build marker follow your crosshair, with the same aiming and range as the hammer.
• Your own controls: place, rotate, and cancel use your build controls, including any changes you've made in Valheim's Controls menu.
• Toggle, not hold: turn place mode on once and place as many items as you like, then turn it off.
• Controller support: set your controller button or combination just by pressing it.
• Clear status: an on-screen "Precision Drop: ON" label, which you can move, resize, or turn off.
• Vanilla by default: with place mode off, dropping works exactly like the base game.
• Client-side: only you need it installed. It works on servers and with friends who don't have it.

Setup

Nothing is bound by default, so pick a key or button after installing. Until you do, opening your inventory shows a reminder.

Keyboard: press F1 in game, find Capes Precision Drop, and set PlaceKey.

Controller: press F1, tick RecordPlaceButton, then press and hold your button or combination on the controller and let go. It saves automatically. Esc or waiting 10 seconds cancels. A combination, like holding a bumper and pressing another button, avoids clashing with the buttons' normal actions.

The F1 menu needs a config manager mod, such as BepInEx ConfigurationManager. You can also edit BepInEx/config/th3cap3.valheim.capesprecisiondrop.cfg directly, for example PlaceKey = LeftAlt.

How to use

1. Open your inventory and press your place key or button. "Precision Drop: ON" appears.
2. Drop an item the normal way: drag it outside the inventory, or use your controller's drop button.
3. The inventory closes and a preview of the item follows your crosshair.
4. Use your build controls:

Place mode stays on until you press the key again with the inventory open, so you can place several items in a row.

Settings

Good to know

• Placed items are still normal dropped items. They can tip over or roll on slopes, and animals eat them as usual.
• Only items from your own inventory can be placed, not from chests.
• SeneaL UI: with SeneaL UI enabled, the F1 menu doesn't register key presses when setting a key. Set it in the config file instead, or disable SeneaL UI, set the key, and turn it back on.

UI mods can show their own place mode indicator and hide this one, through CapesPrecisionDrop.PrecisionDropAPI:

These names are stable. Everything else in the mod is internal and may change.

With a hard dependency, reference CapesPrecisionDrop.dll and add [BepInDependency("th3cap3.valheim.capesprecisiondrop")]. Without one, check BepInEx.Bootstrap.Chainloader.PluginInfos for the GUID and use reflection:
