Autosail
Pick a pin, or any spot on the map, and your ship sails there by itself. Autosail plans a route over open water, keeps away from coastlines, steers around rocks and other ships, slows down near the end and stops at the nearest safe water if your spot is on land. If it gets stuck it backs off and plans a new route.
It is built for Njord's Belt and Njord's Charm from Sailing Progression. Njord's Favor keeps a steady tailwind pointing the way the ship faces, so the autopilot never has to tack and only has to steer.
How to use
- Wear Njord's Belt or Charm and take the helm (hands on the wheel).
- Open the map (M).
- Hover the mouse over a pin or any spot. A pin within 300 m of the cursor is used in place of the exact spot.
- Press H. The map closes and the ship starts sailing.
- While sailing, the distance to go and the estimated arrival time show at the top of the screen.
- To stop, press H again with the map closed. Steering by hand, leaving the helm, or taking the belt off also switches it off.
To change destination, open the map, hover a new spot and press H again.
Do not double-click the map while choosing. That opens the pin name box, and H would type into it. If you want a new pin, name it first, then hover over it and press H.
Settings
Everything can be changed in-game with the Configuration Manager (F1), or in BepInEx/config/tonto.autosail.cfg.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| AutopilotKey | H | Start, change destination, or stop |
| CloseMapAfterStart | on | Closes the map after you pick a destination |
| ShowStatus | on | Shows distance to go and arrival time on screen |
| RequireNjordsFavor | on | Only start while wearing the belt or charm |
| CellSize | 64 | Route grid size in metres; smaller finds narrower channels |

| PinSnapRadius | 300 | How close a pin must be to the cursor to be chosen |
| SteerRange, Damping | 35, 0.02 | Steering feel; raise Damping if the ship swings past its heading |

| InvertRudder | off | Flip the rudder if the ship turns away from its target |
| Log | off | Extra detail in LogOutput.log |
Good to know
- Routes use the world's terrain, so they also work across areas that are not loaded. Player-built structures and terraformed ground are not part of the route; the forward obstacle check handles what it can see.
- Dangerous waters such as serpents cannot be avoided from the map alone, so stay alert.
- It runs only on the player at the helm. Other players do not need the mod.
- You can turn off RequireNjordsFavor, but without a tailwind the wind decides your speed and the ship cannot tack.
Problems?
Set Log to on, reproduce the problem and attach BepInEx/LogOutput.log (the lines containing "Autosail") when you report it.
Credits
Njord's Belt and Njord's Favor come from Sailing Progression by BranchOfYore. Autosail only reads whether you are wearing them.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
0.2.0
- Routes now keep away from coastlines, with a new ShoreCost setting. Every route cell is also checked around its centre, so thin strips of land can no longer be cut through.
- Better obstacle handling: more directions are checked, it looks further ahead when sailing fast, and it slows down when something is close ahead.
- If the ship gets stuck it backs off and plans a new route, instead of switching itself off. It also replans when it ends up far from the planned route.
- Distance to go and estimated arrival time are shown on screen (ShowStatus setting).
0.1.2
- First public release.
- Hover a pin or map spot and press H to sail there; stops at the nearest safe water if the spot is on land.
- Route planning over open water, forward obstacle avoidance, automatic slowing near the end.
- Settings available in the Configuration Manager.
