README

Safe Pouch

Keep your essentials. Keep adventuring.

Bring a little peace of mind to your next expedition. Safe Pouch adds personal storage beneath your inventory that stays with your character when you die—and follows you between worlds.

Protect your favorite weapon, save your coins, or keep a few precious resources ready for the journey home.

Small pouch. Big possibilities.

  • Survive the corpse run: pouch contents stay with you after death.
  • Make it your size: choose 1–28 slots, with four by default. The panel grows to fit and adds a new row after every seven slots.
  • Keep your gear equipped: weapons, armor, tools, and accessories can stay equipped while safely stored. Equipped markers and durability bars keep you informed.
  • Put your supplies to work: fire pouch ammo, build and craft with stored resources, and fuel or load world objects without withdrawing first. Regular inventory supplies are used first unless you select pouch ammo.
  • Use food and potions: Shift + right-click a pouch consumable to use it directly.
  • Stack up your supplies: choose a regular-item stack limit from 1–99,999 per slot, with 99,999 as the default.
  • Choose your portal rules: carry precious cargo through portals, or enable normal portal restrictions for the pouch. Restricted stackable items have their own 1–99,999 limit, defaulting to one per slot.
  • Travel as light as you like: set pouch weight anywhere from 0% to 100% of normal weight.
  • Feel at home in Valheim: native UI styling follows the inventory's lighting, and adaptive placement accommodates extended inventory panels, including Quartermaster's sort button.
  • Share your server's rules: servers with Safe Pouch automatically set pouch size, weight percentage, stack limits, and portal restrictions.

Optional server install: play with your own settings on servers without Safe Pouch, or install it on the server to sync pouch rules with clients. Use 0.7.0 or newer on both ends to sync all five settings.

Easy to use

Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager and launch Modded. BepInEx is included as a required dependency.

Action Control
Deposit Click an inventory item, then a pouch slot.
Withdraw to a chosen slot Click a pouch item, then an inventory slot.
Quick withdraw Right-click a pouch item. Overflow stays safely in the pouch.
Equip / unequip or select ammo Shift + right-click gear or ammo in the pouch.
Use food / potions Shift + right-click a consumable in the pouch.

Normal equipment-slot limits apply. Ammo and resources are consumed when used, just like regular inventory supplies; crafted output goes into the regular inventory. Withdraw gear for repairs or upgrades, and items for chest transfers. The pouch hides while a chest is open; controls currently support mouse input.

Your pouch, your rules

After your first launch, edit BepInEx/config/local.valheim.safepouch.cfg with the game closed:

[Pouch]
SlotCount = 4
WeightPercent = 100
RegularStackLimit = 99999
PortalRestrictedStackLimit = 1
BlockPortalWithRestrictedItems = false

[Interface]
Gap = 8
VerticalOffset = 0

SlotCount: 1–28. WeightPercent: 0 = weightless, 50 = half weight, 100 = normal weight. Gap and VerticalOffset adjust placement; negative offsets move the pouch up. Restart after editing.

Both stack limits accept 1–99,999. Non-stackable gear always stays one per slot. Reducing capacity preserves occupied extra slots; lowering a stack limit preserves larger existing stacks for withdrawal, and they cannot accept more items until below the new limit. Withdrawals use normal inventory stack sizes.

BlockPortalWithRestrictedItems: false (default) allows pouch cargo through portals. Set true to make restricted pouch items block ordinary portals. Portals and world settings that allow all items still work; restricted items in the regular inventory always follow the game's rules.

On a server with Safe Pouch, its SlotCount, WeightPercent, RegularStackLimit, PortalRestrictedStackLimit, and BlockPortalWithRestrictedItems take precedence while connected. Your local config file is preserved and takes effect again after disconnecting; UI placement stays personal. In-game config edits on the server sync live. For file edits, restart the server.

The server supplies settings to participating clients; pouch items remain saved with your character. This is config synchronization, not an anti-cheat system.

Before uninstalling, empty the pouch and log out normally. Pouch contents are saved with your character and require this mod to access.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.7.1

  • Click an item in the pouch, then another occupied pouch slot to swap complete stacks directly. Compatible stacks still merge when there is room.
  • Swaps and whole-stack moves preserve equipped gear and selected ammunition, including across rows and after saving/reloading.
  • Swaps respect stack limits and cannot move an item back into a withdrawal-only overflow slot after shrinking the pouch. Partial-stack drops do not swap.
  • Configuration synchronization remains compatible with 0.7.0 servers.

0.7.0

  • Added server-synced BlockPortalWithRestrictedItems (default false). When enabled, pouch contents follow native portal restrictions, including allow-all portals and world rules.
  • Pouch resources now count toward building and crafting requirements, and can fuel or load world objects. Normal inventory resources are consumed first, then the pouch supplies the remainder.
  • Bows and other ammo weapons can use pouch ammunition. Shift + right-click selects ammo; selection persists through save/reload.
  • Shift + right-click food or potions to use them directly. Native consumption restrictions still apply.
  • Update servers and clients to 0.7.0+ together for configuration synchronization. Character save format is unchanged.

0.6.1

  • Simplified pouch tooltips by removing server settings and numeric stack limits. Item details, equipment controls, and useful pouch hints remain.

0.6.0

  • Added RegularStackLimit (default 99999) and PortalRestrictedStackLimit (default 1), both accepting 1-99999.
  • Both limits sync from servers along with slot count and weight; update both server and clients to 0.6.0+.
  • Restricted stack deposits fill slots up to their configured limit. Non-stackable equipment remains one per slot.
  • Lowering limits preserves larger existing stacks for withdrawal, including after save/reload. Normal inventory stack limits remain unchanged.
  • Tooltips and sync logs show the active limits. Older versions cannot load portal-restricted stacks larger than one.

0.5.1

  • Keep early server config packets until login completes, fixing sync when Jotunn or ServerSync buffers the PeerInfo handshake.
  • Deferred settings remain tied to the known server connection and are discarded on disconnect or session changes.
  • Added startup config path/value logs, server offer logs, and client acknowledgment logs.

0.5.0

  • Optional server install automatically syncs SlotCount and WeightPercent to clients with 0.5.0+.
  • Server settings override local values for the session; disconnecting restores personal settings without rewriting the client config.
  • Live setting edits broadcast to modded peers; interface placement stays local.
  • Live capacity changes preserve occupied extra slots as withdrawal-only, including equipped gear.
  • Servers without the mod continue to use local client settings. Pouch tooltips show active server rules.

0.4.1

  • Restore saved pouch equipment on the character-selection preview, so protected armor appears before entering a world.

0.4.0

  • Non-stackable equipped gear stays equipped when moved into, within, or out of the pouch.
  • Shift + right-click toggles equipment in the pouch. Ordinary right-click still withdraws.
  • Equipped state restores on login; native equipment-slot conflicts and durability rules still apply.
  • Added equipped markers and durability bars. Ammo remains storage-only; withdraw gear for repairs.

0.3.1

  • Panel now shrinks to fit one, two, or three slots.
  • One-slot layout uses a two-line title; labels wrap and resize to fit.

0.3.0

  • Added SlotCount configuration (1–28, default 4).
  • Pouch expands into rows of seven slots.
  • Reducing capacity preserves occupied extra slots as withdrawal-only until emptied.
  • Variable-size save format with migration from existing pouch saves. Do not downgrade after saving with 0.3.0.

0.2.3

  • Pouch background now shares the inventory's live material and color, allowing native lighting effects to apply.
  • Removed the fixed background darkening tint.

0.2.2

  • Added configurable pouch weight percentage, from 0% to 100%.
  • First Thunderstore package.

0.2.1

  • Adaptive positioning below expanded inventory backgrounds and footer buttons.
  • Configurable UI gap and vertical offset.

0.2.0

  • Ordinary stackable items can stack to 99,999 per pouch slot.
  • Updated save format to preserve large counts, with migration from earlier saves.
  • Withdrawals split into normal inventory stacks.

0.1.x

  • Four character-bound slots with death protection.
  • One-per-slot limit for portal-restricted items.
  • Native inventory styling and background refinements.
