Railroads
Stone railroads with a coal locomotive, wagons, stations and switches. Send a train to a station or drive it yourself. Trains keep running when no player is near. The server needs the mod too.

Railroads
Build a railroad with the hammer: stone track, stations, a coal locomotive and wagons. Click a locomotive, pick a station, and the train drives there. Or sit on the bench and drive it yourself.
The mod is made for multiplayer on a dedicated server. Trains keep running when no player is near them, and the server plans the routes so 2 trains never get the same track.
This is the first public version. It runs on the servers of its author as part of another tool, and it is new as a mod of its own. Please report what does not work.
What you get
- 24 track pieces: straights from 1 to 32 m, curves, 2 slopes with their bends, switches, a crossing, a turning loop, a T junction and an X junction. Track holds far out from a pole, so a line can cross a valley.
- Stations with a name of your own on a board. A train stops at them.
- A locomotive that burns coal, 1 per 100 m. It has a speed lever, a switch lever, torches, smoke and a steam engine sound.
- Wagons with a storage of 18 slots, a bench for 2 riders and a sign you write yourself. Up to 4 behind a locomotive.
- A wagon restaurant with a table that takes food and shows each dish, and a board on its roof for the name of your place.
- A portal wagon: a portal that travels with the train.
- The track, the stations and the trains on the map.
- A train at speed hits what stands on the track.
Everything is in the Transport tab of the hammer.
How to play
- Lay track. Every end of a piece snaps to the end of another.
- Put a station on the track and give it a name with the use key.
- Put a locomotive on the track. Put coal in at a fire door.
- Use the locomotive and pick a station from the list. Or sit on the bench: forward and backward step the speed lever, left and right pick the branch at the next switch.
- Put a wagon right behind the train and couple it with the alternative use key, Shift and E by default.
Install
Install with a mod manager, or copy the folder plugins/Railroads of the
zip into BepInEx/plugins. The files in meshes and icons must stay
next to Railroads.dll.
The server and every player need the same version. A player with another version gets a message that names both versions, and no rail pieces. A server without the mod shows no rail pieces at all.
Settings
The file BepInEx/config/vladasz.railroads.cfg is written at the first
start. The section Server counts only on the server, which sends it to
every player. A change needs a restart of the server.
| Setting | Default | What it is |
|---|---|---|
TopSpeed |
10 | top speed of a train in m/s, from 4 to 15 |
CoalPer100Meters |
1 | coal burnt per 100 m, from 0 to 5. With 0 trains need no coal |
MaxCoal |
100 | the most coal a locomotive holds, from 20 to 500 |
MaxWagons |
4 | the most wagons of a train, from 0 to 8 |
Hits |
Everything |
what a train hits: Everything, MobsOnly or Nothing |
SureKill |
true | a train at 9.5 m/s or more kills any mob it hits, a boss too |
PortalWagon |
true | the portal wagon can be built. A world with portals off never has it |
MapTrack, MapStations, MapTrains |
true | whether players may see them on the map |
The section Map is your own: ShowTrack, ShowStations and
ShowTrains.
Good to know
- Coal comes from burnt food on a cooking station from the first day.
- The wood of track can be paid with core wood too.
- Rail pieces take no damage from mobs, fire or rain. Track in the air needs a pole now and then.
- A train stops 1 m before another train or a loose wagon.
- The texts of the mod are in English.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
0.1.9
New settings for the flatbed wagon, all in the Server section.
DeckHeight: how high you can build over the deck, 2 to 12 m, default 4.
DeckReachLeftRight and DeckReachFrontBack: how far a piece can reach past the edges of the deck, 0 to 2 m, default 0.5.
DeckPiecesIndestructible: what is built on a flatbed takes no damage. Off by default.
DeckSmelters: a smelter, a blast furnace, a kiln and an obliterator can be built on a flatbed. Off by default.
DeckFires: a campfire, a hearth and a brazier can be built on a flatbed. Off by default. Torches always can.
A cauldron on a flatbed keeps its fire after the train moved.
CoalPer100Meters is CoalPer1000Meters now, default 10. A value you set before is kept, 2 becomes 20.
TopSpeed goes from 2 to 40 m/s now.
0.1.8
The rail pieces are in the build menu right after you join. Before you had to pick something up first.
0.1.7
A new wagon, the flatbed. It is an empty deck and you build on it.
0.1.6
The settings of the mod show in a config manager in the game now. The 3 map settings count at once when you change them there. The others count from the next start of a world.
0.1.5
The portal wagon works with TargetPortal now. The torches of the locomotive are no longer pixelated.
0.1.4
In a hosted game the host can drive again while another player is near the train. A train you send no longer stops on the way when you go far from it, like through a portal. One popup for the new pieces, not 24. A few smaller fixes for trains with 2 players near.
0.1.3
No more warning in the log at the first use of the hammer when you don't have Craft From Containers.
0.1.2
Single player and hosted games work now, I tested both. Also a new icon and a Discord server for the mod.
0.1.1
A new icon and a new page text. The mod itself is the same.
0.1.0
The first version.
