README

Runic Vault 0.6.4 — Early Release

Build a shared storage network with its own runic core and storage blocks. Browse items with Valheim's real icons, craft and upgrade from stored materials, and build with your ordinary hammer while carrying a bound remote.

New in 0.6.4: English and Russian support, lighter inventory checkpoints instead of full character saves on every transfer, and the fix for connected players seeing an empty storage network. Update the host and every player to 0.6.4.

Early release: tested in Valheim 1.0.16 on a local host. Dedicated-server play with two independent clients has not been verified. The interface, custom items, tooltips and transaction messages support English and Russian, following your game language. Other languages use English for custom text.

Features

  • A shared item grid with native player inventory, search, categories and sorting.
  • Crafting and item upgrades with actual ingredient icons and required / available amounts.
  • Original low-poly core and storage-block models using native Valheim materials at runtime.
  • Five storage-block tiers: wood, bronze, iron, silver and black metal.
  • A wireless remote whose range increases with boss trophies.
  • Building from storage with the ordinary hammer or the runic hammer. Normal placement, nearby station, stamina and durability requirements still apply.
  • Event-driven storage updates: no periodic network polling while idle.
  • Transfers use a small atomic local inventory journal instead of saving the full character/cloud profile twice per operation. Normal Valheim autosave and logout saves continue.
  • Replacing a destroyed core reconnects surviving blocks within range without rebuilding them.

Install

Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager or r2modman. Dependencies are installed automatically:

  • denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim-5.4.2351
  • ValheimModding-Jotunn-2.30.2

For manual installation, install those dependencies first, then copy plugins/RunicStorage/RunicStorage.dll into BepInEx/plugins/RunicStorage/.

Disable MagicStorageValheim before starting. The two implementations must not run together. If you previously installed a local RunicStorage DLL, remove that duplicate DLL before installing this package through a mod manager. Back up your world and characters before using an early release.

The old prefab IDs are retained for compatibility with existing builds. This is an independent implementation; it does not bundle the original mod's code or assets. Migration from arbitrary MagicStorage versions has not been exhaustively tested.

Getting started

  1. Build a Runic Core with the hammer: Fine Wood ×20, Eikthyr Trophy ×1, Ruby ×5.
  2. Build Storage Blocks within 30 m: Wood ×20, Stone ×20 each. Blocks connect to the nearest core.
  3. Press E at a core or block to open storage. Your native player inventory stays visible on the left.
  4. Craft the remote at a workbench: Fine Wood ×10, Surtling Core ×2, Greydwarf Eye ×5, Bronze ×1. Carry it and press Shift + E at the core to bind it.
  5. With a bound remote in your inventory, equip an ordinary hammer to use stored building materials within the remote's range. Press E in empty space to open remote storage; world interactions take priority.

Materials in your pocket are used first; the server supplies only the shortfall. Crafting station requirements for the storage crafting window are checked near the core. Construction still needs its normal station near the builder.

Controls

Action Control
Open a core or block E
Open the bound remote in empty space E
Close storage E or Esc
Bind a carried remote to a core Shift + E at the core
Upgrade a storage block Shift + E at the block
Pick up / place an item on the cursor Ordinary click
Split a stack Shift + click
Quickly transfer one stack Ctrl + click
Protect an inventory item from bulk transfer Alt + click

Take an item on the native cursor and place it on the storage grid to deposit it. Pick an item from storage and place it in your inventory to withdraw it. Right click or close the window to cancel a storage cursor. The server does not withdraw the item until you place it.

Storage filters cover materials, food, weapons, armor, tools, ammunition, trophies and other items. Bulk deposit skips equipped, protected and quest items, the remote and the runic hammer. In crafting, the station bar and available-only filter help find a recipe. Collect collects delivered items that did not fit in your inventory; they are checkpointed with your inventory instead of being dropped on the ground.

Storage upgrades

The block's world hover shows the next tier, capacity and cost. Shift + E upgrades directly without opening storage. Materials can come from your pocket and the connected network.

Tier Slots Upgrade cost
Wood 18 Build the initial block
Bronze 27 Bronze ×1, Fine Wood ×10
Iron 40 Iron ×3, Ancient Bark ×10
Silver 54 Silver ×2, Obsidian ×5
Black metal 70 Black Metal ×5, Fine Wood ×10

The core adds 16 slots. Destroying a core preserves the surviving blocks' items, tiers and positions. Put a replacement core within 30 m of the blocks to reconnect them. Items stored in the core itself drop normally and are not restored into the new core.

Remote progression

Starting range is 100 m. Upgrade with one trophy per stage: Eikthyr, The Elder, Bonemass, Moder, Yagluth, The Queen, Fader.

Ranges: 100 / 200 / 400 / 800 / 1600 / 3200 / 6400 m, then world-wide access at the final level. Open ? Controls to see the level, range and next trophy and use Upgrade remote. The trophy may be carried or stored. Ctrl + using the remote also upgrades it.

Leaving range clears building availability; returning gets the current counts. The server checks the paid level and distance for actual operations. Remote upgrades do not increase the separate 30 m block-connection radius.

Configuration

Choose English or Russian in Valheim's language settings. No separate mod language option is needed. Transaction messages use each receiving player's language.

The local save directory contains a runic-journal folder with atomic inventory checkpoints, separated by character filename and ID. A character load uses a checkpoint only when its revision is newer than the loaded native save. Include this folder when backing up character data. Checkpoints do not make character and world saves one atomic file; restore matching backups.

BepInEx/config/vovak.runicstorage.cfg is created on first launch.

Setting Default Purpose
Controls.Open E Remote opening shortcut
Controls.ScrollSpeed 300 Screen pixels per wheel step, range 60–1800
Storage.Radius 30 Block connection radius, range 5–64 m
Storage.RemoteRange 100 Initial remote range; 0 disables distance limits at every tier

Storage range settings are controlled by the server and synchronized to clients. Changing settings does not reset paid upgrades.

Multiplayer and known limits

Install the same package version and dependencies on the server and every client. Storage mutations are handled by the server; GUI opening is local to the player who interacts. Guard-stone access and range are checked server-side. Repeated operation replies are deduplicated.

Version 0.6.4 includes the fix for connected players seeing empty storage. The fix applies when opening, reopening and receiving updates with the storage window already open. Update the host and all players together.

Verification for 0.6.4: 335 local-host checks passed on 0.6.4, including 16 transfers with zero full character saves, inventory/pending recovery, duplicate replies, real write failure rollback and all English panels. The same binary: 15 isolated peer sync checks passed. Six warmed samples per operation measured local synchronous transfer medians of 15–22 ms, versus 26–35 ms in 0.6.3; this is not a network latency or total frame-time guarantee.

The peer checks cover opening, reopening after a deposit, updates to both subscriptions, duplicate requests, last-stack withdrawal and rejected identities. They use synthetic peers in the actual game server; two independent network clients have not been retested after this fix.

Construction cannot finish with a full inventory: supplied materials remain in Collect. Free space, collect them, and try again. World and character saves are separate Valheim files; restoring mismatched backups can lose or duplicate transferred items. Restore a matched backup set.

Compatibility with every other crafting/storage mod has not been tested. If reporting a problem, include the mod version, whether it happened solo or on a server, reproduction steps and relevant BepInEx/LogOutput.log lines. Redact private server details before posting logs.

Uninstall

Collect pending deliveries and move stored items to ordinary Valheim containers first. Dismantle custom pieces and put away custom items before disabling the mod. Keep a matched world/character backup. Do not turn the old MagicStorage implementation back on while pending Runic Storage deliveries remain.

CHANGELOG

Changelog

0.7.0 — 2026-10-06

  • Add new core, storage-block, remote and runic-hammer recipes; boss trophies and rubies are no longer required to build a core.
  • Replace boss-trophy remote upgrades with seven biome-resource recipes. Pay using carried materials, stored materials or both; the Controls panel displays the complete cost.
  • Rebalance storage-block upgrade costs. Preserve existing storage contents, block levels, bound remotes and paid range upgrades.
  • Include incremental storage updates, batched Ctrl deposits and background inventory checkpoints developed in 0.6.5–0.6.8.
  • Respect available pocket/storage space before ordinary transfers; leave excess items at their source and refresh the Collect counter after delivery.
  • Keep item details and withdrawal buttons stable between transfers. Move remote opening to G; E remains world interaction.
  • Rewrite the package description and getting-started guide around RunicVault's current features and progression.

0.6.4 — 2026-10-05

  • Replace two full character/cloud saves per transfer with atomic local inventory checkpoints; native autosave and logout saves remain unchanged.
  • Recover newer inventory and pending transfers when a character loads. Native saves with an equal or newer checkpoint take precedence.
  • Add English alongside Russian for the interface, custom items, hovers, tooltips and transaction messages. Language follows each player's Valheim settings.
  • Include the 0.6.3 shared-storage peer identity fix.

0.6.3 — 2026-10-05

  • Fix remote players seeing empty shared storage: resolve the requester from the connection's replicated character ID rather than the optional legacy peer ID cache.
  • Use the same identity check for subscribed inventory updates, so both players receive deposits while storage remains open.
  • Keep character/world checks, access permissions, operation receipts and retry deduplication. Unresolved identities now return a visible synchronization message.
  • 15 isolated real-game server checks passed with synthetic peers and captured transport; the old receiver failed the initial remote snapshot check. Two independent clients still need to repeat the reported scenario.

0.6.2 — 2026-10-05

First public early release, following local development.

  • Shared storage with native inventory cursor behavior, real item icons, search, categories and crafting.
  • Original runic core and storage-block geometry with five material tiers.
  • Block hover displays the next upgrade price; Shift + E upgrades without opening the window.
  • Ordinary and runic hammers use stored materials through a bound remote.
  • Boss-trophy remote progression, enforced range and event-driven inventory updates.
  • Replacement cores reconnect surviving storage blocks without moving their items or resetting tiers.
  • 310 checks passed on a local host; dedicated-server/two-client play remains unverified. An earlier initial hammer-subscription assertion failed once and has not been reproduced in subsequent diagnostic and final runs.
