This mod requires the following mods to function
denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim
BepInEx pack for Valheim. Preconfigured with the correct entry point for mods and preferred defaults for the community.
Preferred version: 5.4.2351README
No Message HUD Toggle
A client-side Valheim mod that hides selected HUD notifications and prevents the chat panel from appearing automatically. Press F8 to temporarily switch the mod on or off.
Features
- Separate filters for pickups, skill increases, new discoveries, recipes, crafting stations, and station upgrades.
- Independent controls for raid/event messages and regular center-screen notifications.
- Optional filtering of uncategorized HUD messages.
- Automatic chat popup suppression, with manual chat access through Enter.
- Configuration changes apply during gameplay without restarting the game.
- The runtime toggle leaves your saved settings unchanged.
By default, the mod hides common notifications and automatic chat popups. Raid/event messages and uncategorized notifications remain visible.
Installation
Install with Thunderstore Mod Manager, r2modman, or another compatible mod manager. The package requires BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351, as specified in manifest.json.
For manual installation:
- Install the required BepInExPack for Valheim.
- Close the game.
- Place
NoMessageHudToggle.dllinBepInEx/plugins/within your game or mod-manager profile. - Launch the game once to generate the configuration file.
The mod runs on the client. It does not need to be installed on a dedicated server.
Configuration
Configuration file:
BepInEx/config/com.xtasy.NoMessageHudToggle.cfg
Default settings:
[General]
Enabled = true
Toggle Hotkey = F8
[Messages]
Hide Item Pickup = true
Hide Inventory Notifications = true
Hide Skill Up = true
Hide New Items = true
Hide New Materials = true
Hide New Recipes = true
Hide New Stations = true
Hide Station Level Up = true
Hide Events = false
Hide Center Messages = true
Hide Other = false
[Chat]
Disable Automatic Chat Popup = true
General settings
Enabled sets the initial state when the game starts. Editing it during gameplay changes the saved startup preference; it does not switch the current runtime state.
Toggle Hotkey defaults to F8. Press it to enable or disable the mod for the current session. The toggle does not modify Enabled or save the configuration. On the next launch, the mod uses the saved startup preference again.
The toggle is ignored while typing in chat, the developer console, portal or sign text, or a map pin name.
Message filters
Set a filter to true to hide its notifications, or false to allow them.
| Setting | Notifications controlled |
|---|---|
Hide Item Pickup |
Item pickup messages, including loot picked up from creatures. |
Hide Inventory Notifications |
The summary reporting the number of new discoveries after unlock notifications, using $inventory_logs_new. This setting does not specifically filter items taken from chests. |
Hide Skill Up |
Skill level increases. |
Hide New Items |
General unlock notifications, including new items, trophies, and other $msg_new* unlock categories without a dedicated filter. |
Hide New Materials |
Newly discovered materials. |
Hide New Recipes |
Newly discovered recipes. |
Hide New Stations |
Newly discovered crafting stations. |
Hide Station Level Up |
Crafting station upgrades. |
Hide Events |
Raid and event messages beginning with $event_. |
Hide Center Messages |
Regular center-screen HUD messages, such as resting and rested notifications. |
Hide Other |
HUD and unlock notifications that do not match a dedicated category. |
Dedicated unlock filters take priority over Hide New Items. For example, setting Hide New Materials = false allows material discoveries even when Hide New Items = true.
Raid/event messages are checked separately before center-screen messages. Setting Hide Center Messages = true leaves $event_* messages visible when Hide Events = false.
Hide Other does not override a recognized category that you have allowed.
Chat visibility
Disable Automatic Chat Popup = true suppresses automatic chat panel popups while the mod is active, including those caused by incoming messages and player join/leave notifications.
Press Enter to open chat manually. Incoming messages remain in chat history. Set this option to false, or temporarily disable the mod, to use normal chat visibility behavior.
Automatic configuration reload
Save changes to the configuration file while the game is running. The mod detects the change and reloads the settings after a short delay. If the file changes again during loading, the mod schedules another reload.
Filters apply to new notifications. Notifications already displayed or queued may finish displaying; suppressed HUD notifications are not replayed when the mod is disabled.
Compatibility and validation
Version 1.3.1 compiles against the locally installed Valheim and BepInEx libraries and passes automated logic checks. Its behavior in a running game, including the revised chat handling, has not yet been verified.
Valheim updates or other mods that change the same HUD/chat behavior may require a compatibility update.
