Description
Odin sees all. Now you can erase some of it.
CartographyAdmin lets you view and manage every map marker saved on a cartography table. In vanilla, you can only remove your own markers from a table, and only by deleting them from your map and writing to the table again. With this mod, you can open the table's full marker list and delete, rename or change the icon of anyone's markers, including markers left behind by players who no longer play. Your changes are saved to the table and reach other players the next time they read it: this mod modifies the data saved to the in-world cartography table, not just your own map (the one you open with M). It's Vanilla+ and client-side: it only edits the markers the table already stores, so no server mod is needed.
Installation
- Install BepInEx if you haven't already.
- Drop
CartographyAdmin.dllinto yourBepInEx/pluginsfolder. - Launch the game. A config file is generated at
BepInEx/config/diffByDefault.CartographyAdmin.cfgon first run, editable in-game if you have Configuration Manager installed (optional).
Main features
- Full marker list: see every marker saved on a cartography table, with its icon, name, owner, position and distance. Sort by name or distance, and search by name or owner.
- Edit any marker: delete, rename, change the icon of or cross out markers from any player.
- Readable boss markers: markers placed by the game show their name, such as "Eikthyr", and search finds them by it.
- Undo before saving: Reset undoes your edits to one marker, Undo all changes undoes everything. Nothing reaches the table until you click Save to table.
- Safe saving: saving keeps markers other players added to the table while you were editing, and your own edited markers are updated on your own map too, so your next save doesn't bring the old versions back.
- Saved to the table: changes reach other players the next time they read the table.
- Find duplicates: list only markers with the same icon close together, so the twelve "copper here" markers are easy to clean up.
- Shared markers stay current: reading a table updates the name, icon and cross-out of shared markers you already have.
- Looks like Valheim: the marker manager is built from the game's own menus, day/night tint included.
How it works
- Who can manage a table: the player who built it, players permitted on an active ward that covers it, and server admins or the host. A table no ward covers can only be managed by its builder and admins. This rule is built into the mod, so other players can't loosen it in their own config.
- Vanilla+ and client-side: every cartography table already stores its shared markers. This mod only adds an interface for editing that stored data, saved in the game's own format, so no server mod is needed and nothing new is added to your world.
- Map sharing stays vanilla: the mod doesn't share maps itself. Tables share explored areas and markers the vanilla way, by hand and not live: a player saves to the table, then others read it. This mod only edits the markers a table stores.
- Look at a cartography table and press Shift+E (the key held with E can be changed to Ctrl or Alt). Make your changes, then click Save to table.
- While you hold the hotkey, E doesn't also read from or save to the table. Esc, Tab or the hotkey close the manager without opening the pause menu or inventory, and the mouse wheel scrolls the list without zooming the camera.
- Other players get your changes the next time they read the table. A deleted marker disappears for everyone except the player who placed it: the game never removes your own markers when you read a table, so they keep it until they delete it from their map.
- Renames, icon changes and cross-outs only update for players who have the mod. If a player without it saves to the table, their old version of that marker goes back on the table.
- If a player who still plays saves to the table, their own markers go back to how they have them on their map, including any of theirs you deleted.
- The table stores player IDs, not names, so owner names show only for players who are nearby or online.
Configuration
Edit settings in-game with a Configuration Manager, or in BepInEx/config/diffByDefault.CartographyAdmin.cfg.
| Setting | Description | Default |

BuilderOrWard: the table's builder, players permitted on a ward covering it, and server admins or the host. AdminsOnly: admins and the host only, on your own game; it can't loosen the built-in rule for anyone. | BuilderOrWard |
Window Style (WindowStyle) |
Valheim: styled like the in-game menus. Simple: a plain window, as a fallback. | Valheim |
Keep Scroll Position (KeepScrollPosition) |
The marker list stays where you scrolled it after saving, and when you reopen the same table. | On |
Scroll Rows Per Step (ScrollRowsPerStep) |
How many markers the list moves per mouse-wheel step. | 3 |
Update Shared Markers From Table (UpdateSharedMarkersFromTable) |
Reading a table updates the name, icon and cross-out of shared markers you already have. Your own markers are never changed. | On |
Duplicates View (DuplicatesView) |
Adds a Show only possible duplicates button, which lists only markers with the same icon that are close together. | Off |
Duplicate Distance (DuplicateDistance) |
How close (m) same-icon markers must be to count as possible duplicates. | 50 |
Requirements
- BepInEx - required.
- Configuration Manager - optional, for changing the settings from an in-game menu. (I recommend Valheim Configuration Manager)
- Client-side only. No server mod needed, and other players don't need the mod to lose deleted markers (see How it works).
AI disclosure: Claude (Anthropic's AI) was used for researching Valheim's codebase, and generated the icon and the images for the mod page.
CHANGELOG
Changelog
All notable changes to CartographyAdmin are documented here.
[1.0.1] - 2026-10-01
Changed
- Who can manage a table (security fix): the marker manager now opens only for the player who built the table, players permitted on a ward that covers it, and server admins or the host. In 1.0.0, anyone with the mod could manage a table that no ward covered, including deleting everyone's markers. This rule is fixed in the code, not a setting, so another player can't loosen it in their own config.
EditPermissionsetting:BuilderOrWard(default, the rule above) orAdminsOnly, which only limits your own game. The 1.0.0 valueWardAccessis gone; an old config file with it falls back to the default (BepInEx may log a parse warning once).
Fixed
- Release zips are written with forward-slash paths (pack.ps1
New-PackageZip), so Thunderstore, Hexium and Linux mod managers unpack them into folders instead of one oddly named file.
[1.0.0] - 2026-10-01
First public release.
Added
- Marker manager window for cartography tables, opened with Shift+E while looking at a table. Lists every marker saved on the table with its icon, name, crossed-out state, owner, position and distance, with a search box. Click the Name or Distance header button to sort by it (nearest first by default); click again to reverse.
- Delete, rename, change the icon of, or cross out any marker, then "Save to table". Edits are applied to the table's current data, so markers saved by others in the meantime are kept. Your own markers are updated on your own map as well, so your next save to the table doesn't bring back the old versions.
EditPermissionsetting: ward access at the table (default) or server admins and the host only.UpdateSharedMarkersFromTablesetting (default on): reading a table now updates the name, icon and crossed-out state of shared markers you already have (vanilla keeps the old version forever). Your own markers are never changed.DuplicatesViewsetting (default off) withDuplicateDistance(default 50 m): a "Show only possible duplicates" button that lists only markers with the same icon close together, grouped, in the chosen sort order; "Show all markers" goes back to the full list. An orange note beside the button says which list you're looking at.- Close the marker manager with Esc (which doesn't open the pause menu), the Inventory key (Tab by default, which doesn't open the inventory), or the hotkey again (except while typing in a name box). The hotkey doesn't open the manager while another menu is open.
- The marker manager is styled like Valheim's own menus, laid out like a crafting station (marker list on the left, the selected marker's details on the right), including the warm/cool tint that follows the day/night cycle.
WindowStylesetting: Valheim (default) or Simple, a plain window kept as a fallback (95% opaque). The simple window is also used automatically if the Valheim-styled one can't be built.- The mouse wheel scrolls the marker list without zooming the camera.
- Vanilla look pass (compared against the crafting and settings menus): centered title; labels and stat lines in the game's body font, white label with orange value like the crafting detail pane; one-line list rows with the distance column at row size in orange; a wider scrollbar on a dark track like the settings lists; a smaller, secondary-sized Cross out button.
OpenMenuModifiersetting: the key held with E to open the manager, Shift (default), Ctrl or Alt. The table's hover text shows it as "[Shift+E] Manage markers" (or Ctrl+E, Alt+E).- The table's own read/write action is blocked while the hotkey's keys are held, so the hotkey never saves or reads the table by accident.
KeepScrollPositionsetting (default on): the marker list stays where you had it scrolled after "Save to table", and when you reopen the manager at the same table, instead of jumping back to the top.ScrollRowsPerStepsetting (default 3, range 1-20): how many markers the list moves per mouse-wheel step.- Markers placed by the game (boss markers and similar) show their readable name, such as "Eikthyr", instead of a code like
$enemy_eikthyr. Search matches the readable name.
Fixed
- The table's hover text, the crosshair and the stealth icons and bar (shown while crouched, for example after opening with Ctrl+E) no longer draw on top of the marker manager.
- Crossed-out markers now show the map's cross-out mark on their icon in the marker list and the details pane, and it updates as soon as you cross out or uncross a marker.
- The whole area of each button in the marker manager now highlights and takes clicks; before, only the lower part did. The Delete button was partly covered by the game's (hidden) hover text, which no longer catches the mouse.
- Opening the marker manager no longer fills the log with "LiberationSans SDF Font Asset was not found" warnings (one per text label).
