This mod requires the following mods to function
ValheimModding-Jotunn
Jötunn (/ˈjɔːtʊn/, 'giant'), the Valheim Library was created with the goal of making the lives of mod developers easier. It enables you to create mods for Valheim using an abstracted API so you can focus on the actual content creation.
Preferred version: 2.30.2denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim
BepInEx pack for Valheim. Preconfigured with the correct entry point for mods and preferred defaults for the community.
Preferred version: 5.4.2351expDARE-Crucible
Meadworks shared library: product registration, server authority, the shared interface kit, localization and logging. Adds no gameplay. Required on all peers.
Preferred version: 0.3.26README
Edge
Version 0.2.13. Requires Crucible 0.3.26 / Crucible.UI 0.3.19. Changes are in CHANGELOG.md.
Combat additions: a secondary attack for every weapon family, a quickstep, swings that hit on slopes, and weapons back in hand after a swim.
Features
- Secondary attacks for every weapon family, such as barrages, sentinels, boomerang axes, spear rain and launch slams. Bows, crossbows, staves and bombs each have a preset setting; melee secondaries come from the melee rules file.
- Cooldown and charge HUD, secondary names in weapon tooltips and key hints for keyboard and gamepad.
- A "Secondary Attacks" entry in the Compendium (Texts/Lore) lists every secondary attack with its description.
- Quickstep: a short dash for knives and Unarmed-skill weapons.
- Slope assist: melee swings connect with creatures up or down a slope (Fixed or Adaptive mode).
- Swim recovery: weapons hidden by swimming come back after you leave the water, and the shield you last used comes back when you equip a one-handed weapon.
- Keep Crossbow Loaded (on by default): a crossbow put away loaded stays loaded when drawn again.
- Blood Magic tuning: summon lifetime and quality rules and health costs based on maximum health.
- Dodge Cancel (off by default): dodging or pressing block during an attack cancels it. Stamina and other costs already paid are not refunded.
- Archery: arrows that hit the ground or an object can be picked up again (25% by default, set by the server; arrows that hit creatures, land in water or burn are lost), the camera zooms in as you draw a bow, and a small bar under the crosshair fills with the draw. Zoom and the bar are your own settings in
6 - Interface. - Weapon, melee and Blood Magic rules files (
Edge.Ranged,Edge.Melee,Edge.BloodMagic) for server owners.
Requirements
- BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351
- Jotunn 2.30.2
- Crucible 0.3.26 or a later 0.3.x, which includes Crucible.UI 0.3.19 (the shared Meadworks interface kit)
Installation
- Mod manager (recommended): install Edge with r2modman, Gale or the Thunderstore Mod Manager; the dependencies above are installed for you.
- Manual: install BepInExPack Valheim, then Jotunn and Crucible, then copy the
plugins/Edgefolder from this package intoBepInEx/plugins/. - In multiplayer, install Edge on the server and on every client (see Multiplayer).
Configuration
- Settings file:
BepInEx/config/com.meadworks.edge.cfg. Edit it in game with Almanac (the Meadworks settings book) or any ConfigurationManager. - Each module (secondaries, quickstep, slope assist, equipment) has its own switch; Dodge Cancel is in
1 - General / Dodge Cancel. - In multiplayer the server's values win for combat settings and the rules files, and admins can lock settings; locked settings show as read-only. Swim and HUD settings stay your own.
- Cheat:
7 - Cheats / No Secondary Cooldownsis off by default. In multiplayer it stays locked unless the server allows cheats. - Converter: imports SecondaryAttacks, Slope Combat Assistance and KeepWeaponsAfterSwim settings after a preview, with a backup first.
Multiplayer
- Required on all peers: install it on the server and on every client, same major.minor version.
- Joining a server without Meadworks: Crucible waits for the server's reply (10 seconds by default), then treats it as a vanilla server; Edge turns off for that session, slope assist and swim recovery included, and cheats stay locked.
- Players without Meadworks (vanilla clients) cannot join a server running Edge. With only server-only or client-optional Meadworks products installed, an admin can let them join with Crucible's
Network.AdmissionModeset toAllowVanilla.
Compatibility
- Steps aside, module by module: SecondaryAttacks turns off Edge's secondaries (and its quickstep and last-shield features while SecondaryAttacks' own versions are on); Slope Combat Assistance or Slope Combat Fix turns off slope assist; KeepWeaponsAfterSwim turns off swim recovery while it is active; Quickstep (shudnal) turns off Edge's quickstep; ShieldMeBruh turns off the last-shield feature; BetterArchery turns off Edge's archery features.
- Converter imports: SecondaryAttacks, Slope Combat Assistance and KeepWeaponsAfterSwim (see Configuration).
- No quiver: Mantle's Ammo slots already hold extra arrow stacks beside the inventory.
- Optional Meadworks integrations: Edge adds its weapon, Sneak and Blood Magic lines to the shared skill book.
Notes
-
Optional EpicLoot support: Burst rolls multishot and pays ammo independently for each actual shot. Ammo Conservation refunds one paid ammo per successful shot; the final successful shot determines reload preservation. EpicLoot remains optional.
-
Gamepad: supported through the shared Crucible.UI controller navigation and configurable pad chords.
-
Languages: English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Russian, French, German and Korean (non-English text is machine-assisted).
-
Inspired by / replaces (behavior reimplemented, no code reused): KeepWeaponsAfterSwim (Lazly), DodgeCancel (SirJose), BetterArchery (ishid4: recoverable arrows, bow zoom).
-
Listed under Thunderstore's AI Generated category; tested in-game.

CHANGELOG
Changelog
0.2.14 (2026-10-28)
- Edge starts with its built-in combat rules if it cannot create or read its rule folder.
- If Edge cannot remove all extra ammunition for an overcharged bomb, it restores any ammunition already removed, cancels the attack and removes the projectiles it spawned.
0.2.13 (2026-10-26)
- A sticky charge follows the creature or object it stuck to without being parented to it. When that target is destroyed first, the charge is removed through the game's network cleanup, which ends the NullReferenceException logged every frame afterwards.
- A failing animation reference write is retried every 30 seconds instead of every frame.
- Less per-frame work: the summon quality HUD stays idle while its module is off, and a settings check no longer builds a string on each call.
0.2.12 (2026-10-21)
- Thunderstore republish of the release 8 build; no code changes.
0.2.11 (2026-10-21)
- Requires Crucible 0.3.26 / Crucible.UI 0.3.19.
- Smoked monsters are cleared only by the peer that owns them. If another player takes the monster, it can pick a target again until ownership comes back.
- A character's shield number is written only by the peer that owns that character.
- Secondary-attack preset choices are compared without building a text key every frame. A rejected apply still waits for a real change before it tries again.
0.2.10 (2026-10-20)
- Requires Crucible 0.3.24 / Crucible.UI 0.3.17.
- Faster inventory: the secondary-attack preview under the equipment panel reads the HUD panel's saved visibility once when the inventory opens, instead of switching the HUD panel on and off every frame (that rebuilt its canvas each frame the inventory was open). No visible change.
0.2.9 (2026-10-19)
- Requires Crucible 0.3.22 / Crucible.UI 0.3.15.
- New host setting 2 - Ranged / Arrows To Crosshair (default off, applies at once): your arrows, bolts, thrown weapons and staff shots leave toward the point under the crosshair instead of parallel to the camera. Only the launch direction changes; gravity, speed and spread stay the game's. On servers without Edge your own value applies. English, Spanish and French texts.
- Dodge Cancel has two new host settings: Dodge Cancel Only Before The Hit (default off) cancels only until the attack lands its hit, and Dodge Cancel Extra Stamina Cost (default 0) charges stamina on top of the dodge, refusing the cancel without enough stamina.
- With Inscribe, Quickened and Swift Casting on the weapon shorten secondary cooldowns (shown in the tooltip; at most by half; never longer), through Inscribe's
meadworks.inscribe.secondary_cooldown. Without Inscribe nothing changes. New host setting 1 - General / Inscription Cooldown Bonus (default on) turns this off; Inscribe's Inscription Effects does too. - Settings help: the seven ranged secondary-attack choices explain each option. Keys, defaults and values are unchanged.
- Read existing text and indicator colors from shared Crucible.UI color roles; colors are unchanged.
- Simpler in-game settings: the F8 per-mod view shows only the essential settings. Everything stays in Almanac and the config file. No keys or values change.
0.2.8 - batch 4E gameplay fixes (2026-10-19)
- The secondary attack HUD docks directly below the Equipment frame and follows it, so it no longer covers player windows.
- New setting Return Thrown Weapons (default on): thrown non-disposable weapons return to the slot they left.
- Settings audit: affected settings apply live.
- Requires Crucible 0.3.21 / Crucible.UI 0.3.14.
0.2.7 (2026-10-18)
-
Use the shared owned HUD layout and presentation controls for the existing combat display.
-
Require Crucible 0.3.19 / Crucible.UI 0.3.12. Expanded 4D qualification is pending.
-
Add optional EpicLoot Burst support with per-shot multishot, exact ammo payment, Ammo Conservation and reload handling. Validate callback contracts and actual Harmony registrations instead of requiring one EpicLoot version string. Focused native checks passed with EpicLoot absent and with 0.14.13; multiplayer and other EpicLoot versions remain unqualified.
0.2.6 (2026-10-15)
- First release on Thunderstore.
